note those banana skins will get brown on the outside from the cold and probably look kinda awful but the banana is pristine inside and yummy to the max

I may someday (make banana bread) when I have my own kitchen again and can play around with alternatives to flour. In the meantime, I just don't go there. My carbs are too limited to waste on baked goods.

I not only prefer my bananas on the greenish side, I will not eat them if they have more than the occasional "brown" spots on them. The must still be fairly firm and not at all mushy. When I do buy them, they ripen way too fast, so I never buy more that 2 or 3 at a time..... (I have actually bought them very green, and by the time I got home, they were starting to get mushy. Never been able to explain that one!)

just a little aside here for infomation i have gathered over time
i never ever liked bananas very ripe and when i ate them that way they would cause bloats and gas beyond belief..however they got good stuff in them especially fiber and when eaten in the not so ripe stage (as in still light green on the ends..the sugar has not had time to set in the fruit and although it is not as sweet it still has the stuff you need and lots of fiber

just something i noticed

I had my 1/4 this morning with breakfast I know I worked it off! WHEW! I took a look the diabetic exchange book I have it calls for 4 oz a small banana...even that much would not work for me. 1/4 is better with gym workout.

It's difficult to eat only half a banana, but I do it if I'm having breakfast with someone else and we're both having cereal. Otherwise, I'll eat a whole banana for a snack when I'm not having anything else but the banana.

Don't know if it's necessarily different areas of the country... I tend to think it's where the doctors went to school, what their area of major study was, and how long ago! LOL
I listen and try, and if it doesn't work I go back and ask questions... and start over.

...and like Mary, I count the fiber too. There are different kinds of fiber, soluble and non-soluble etc, and the fiber readings on food labels don't differentiate between the two, so neither do I. And it works for me.

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!
P.S. I looked up enthusiasm, and it says the root words mean God within... interesting...!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But I don't think you have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too!

I've noticed some minor differences from person to person between Dr./diabetic advisor advise - like the fiber or the hot tub. Wondering if different countries, or areas of countries have slightly different thoughts on managing diabetes? Hmmmm.

mmmmm bananas. Send my bs spiking upward. As a non-insulin diabetic (today) dr said subtract fiber from total carbs if there are 3 or more grams of fiber in a serving. Mary it sounds like that will change when I make the jump to insulin.

ph bananas I do miss them. I can not tolerate them. Not even half...I only used then when I know I will have a hard workout at the gym. So 1/4 of one. Not really worth it though

by the way..just as a note my endocriinologist says carbs are carbs they are separated out unless you are on some special diet that seaparetes them..they all count as carbs they are total carbs not sugar alcohols or fiber and all that they are simply carbs and as such each needs to be counted

nuts (unsalted ones please) are a great bit of fiber in the diet for sure..i can't have them because of chronic kidney disease (ckd) but when i could they were the lifesaver in my diet because they added 400 really excellent calories to the day

Speaking of good things eat... check out hazelnuts or filberts. Serving size 1/4 c. 5 g. of carbs and 3 fiber. If you subtract the fiber from the carbs you get 2 g. of carbs (per servng). This goes in the win category for me!

Oranges are strictly for blood sugar crashes in MY world! LOL You can get OJ at most restaurants, and they'll serve it to you first if you tell them you are diabetic...

Otherwise...*sigh* I miss them too! LOL

There are still a lot of good things out there...

well you have counted those carbs twice now as the 12 sugar carbs are included in the 19 carbs already listed as sugars are a type of carb and as for diabetic snacks well most run 15 to 20 carbs anyhow so put a dollop of peanut butter on it and round it out with that protein and remember the fiber..2 more grams in your diet and the potassium..bananas are good for you in moderation for sure as are a lot of other things..hopes this helps a little more friend

I love bananas. When I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes in 2010 (Nov.) I went through the diabetes, "How and what to eat" training. You Diabetics know the one... One of my many surprises was receiving information on the seemingly innocent, good for you BANANA. Here are some little know banana facts - size: "1 Extra Small" banana (less than 6": 19 total carbs, 2g. of fiber and 10 g sugar. YIKES!! Make sure your eat only 1/2 banana. Hope this helps!
