I am committed to completing this 100 days despite being away for training and typing on my Kindle. I will stick to my exercise plan and take a 30 minute walk before dinner today.

I am committed

I'm finding new ways to eat healthier options with more vegetables
I'm walking and moving around while trying not to stray too far from my physiotherapists recommendations
I had blood tests done to check where I'm at with things currently
I've visited several health care professionals including physiotherapists, podiatrists, and a dietician trying to find things that will help my health
I'm taking supplements that will hopefully help
I'm blogging every others day
I've been on Spark each day recently and tracking more things
I'm reading articles
I'm finding ways to get through challenges that have previously set me back
I won't do exercise no matter what if it means injury or making things worse instead I'll work on learning to listen to my body and taking care of my health no matter what
I'm including occassional treats along the way rather than going for an all or nothing approach which can quickly sink me
I'm addressing fears
I'm making a start at going through this book
I'm committed to being healthier and more active, not just interested in losing weight
I'm also committed to losing weight

One step at a time we can do it!

DAY # 2 :: INTERESTED OR COMMITTED?
If you would have asked me this question 3 days ago I would have said that oh, I'm just interested in losing weight, I am not committed, even though I start again every week. But that line of thinking has gone out the door.

INTERESTED: I went shopping today. Had to buy a swimsuit for an upcoming vacation. I don't think I have to tell anybody on Sparkpeople how humiliating that was. I can guess that we have all been in those shoes a time or two, right? As I was walking out of Sears with my new swimsuit in hand (ummm, shopping bag I mean..) I was thinking about the lesson for today and how that little shopping trip has made me a lot more than interested.

COMMITTED: Before if I was that upset over clothes that didn't fit or clothes that are not as "cute" as the smaller sizes,I would find someway to drown my sorrows, usually a starbucks high calorie something yummy! But you know what, because I am committed I passed up the 50 million calorie starbucks something yummy and came home to a refreshing glass of cold water with a light dinner.

INTERESTED: That would have been a fast food drive thru something on the way home tonight. Those days are gone.

COMMITTED: I included a bowl full of fresh vegetables from my garden with a splash of olive oil and fresh basil for my lunch and for my dinner today. It was awesome!

WAKE UP HAPPY, SPREAD THAT HAPPINESS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR WORLD......ME

I am committed to healthy. I have almost a two year streak of logging into Spark and tracking my food and have done an immense amount of learning during that time. I am pretty tuned into my body and how it feels after eating certain foods - both those which feel good and a few that do not.

I'm committed but not so committed as to expect perfection. I know there will be days when I do not hit all my marks. I do get on Spark daily; I'm doing two challenges this summer so I know that I have to visit those two teams daily. I'm doing No S and also trying to keep on husband's pre-diabetic diet(it must be good for me too, right?). In addition I have challenged myself to do Strength Training everyday while we are on this 100 Days journey. When I look at the whole list, that is a lot of marks to hit and sometimes I let down. I will never give up though!

I can honestly say that I am physically a different person than when I began Spark; because I am so much healthier, I am also mentally changed in that I have more confidence, pride, and self esteem.

DAY 2: INTERESTED? or COMMITTED?

My weight loss plan is to measure portions. I know I eat healthy things but I also know I eat 2 or even 3 emoticon times the healthy amount.

On DAY 1 I should have already have started measuring my food. I did not do that. emoticon

Obviously, for the past number of years I HAVE NOT been committed to a weight loss plan even though I DAILY go on sparkpeople and chat about how to lose weight.

To help myself, I did put the timer front and center on my computer desk.

I guess today I need to put a set of measuring tools front and center in the kitchen: cups, spoons, and food scale. emoticon so this will happen emoticon

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

I went out for a lovely relaxed hike this morning and took my book and journal with me. So, from the top of the hill, this is what I wrote:

I think I am committed, but I do tend to have a 'good enough' way of thinking, which is OK, up to a point, but can be a slippery slope towards slacking off in my efforts.

My weight is OK - I'm in the healthy range. This makes it hard for me to be strongly committed. There! I just blamed "it" for my failure! "It" cannot make me fail - it's my attitude that causes me to fail.

In June, for example, I had 6 'fail' days - when I ate off-plan. Not ideal.

* to stick to my plan no matter what I will commit to having ZERO fail days in July.

* today I have been for swim, out for a hike, planned meals for next week.

* I decide I will always be committed to my weight loss plan

This is a hard one for me and the introductory comment at the beginning of this back in 2011 did a good job of explaining why.

"When we live life, we deal with things that come up."

I restarted 100 DWL back in March and never finished, but I did find my notebook that I journaled in. Back then on Day 2 I reflected on my lack of progress, actually it was no progress, in reaching my 2017 weight loss goal. At that time we were 72 days into the new year. Now, we are 183 days into the new year and I am STILL no further. I keep losing and gaining the same 6-8# and that is what I have done for the past 3 years. I am pretty disgusted with myself as I struggle with how to incorporate LIVING LIFE with LOSING WEIGHT.

So, to answer the question about Committed vs. Interested. I feel committed. I want to be committed. Now to "JUST DO IT"!

Day #2 Interested or Committed
When I first read "interested or committed" I always think of course I'm committed to this. But sometimes I need to face the fact that commitment gets you to goal. Being interested means never really getting there.
emoticon My plan to stay committed:
I will log every bite and make changes needed to reach my goal.
I will log my pedometer steps and push for more activity each day.
I will eat a balanced diet, lowering salt and cholesterol every day.
I will continue to write my feelings and use non-food solutions.

Commitment to me means

C-choosing to follow a plan to lose weight permanently because of x,y and z.
O-one that is easy to follow and not too restrictive but represents a healthy lifestyle
M-making changes surely but gradually
M-modifying the plan as I learn more about what healthy foods I could enjoy
I - instead of giving up, learning from my errors and devising slogans to avoid them
T - taking a positive can do attitude, always remembering my reasons x,y,z
M- making index cards with the new thinking that will allow me to have a new lifestyle
E- enjoying and celebrating every minor success by posting it to Spark
N- (k)Nowing that I will ultimately succeed
T- Telling all doubters that my lifestyle is the new me regardless of what they think.

Day 2 - Interested or committed?

About 1 year ago I became "interested" in improving my health and losing weight as one way to achieve this. In August I started to log into Sparkpeople again and became "committed".

At first I just looked around but began to develop a plan. Eat a reasonable amount of calories from healthy foods and track/measure my meals. It was at this time that I truly committed to my healthy journey. I continue to track and measure, have become involved in some of the challenges, and use Sparkpeople to have accountability to my program.

I am committed. I have been committed for the past year now. I continued to exercise creatively and eat right through a broken foot and then spraining the same foot again. I remained committed through a course of prescribed medication which is known to cause weight gain as a side effect ( I did not lose weight but I did not gain either) I have learnt how to keep to my diet when eating out and through social occasions. I have really been very committed this last year.

What I find hardest is that now, despite doing everything right, sticking to my calorie range, exercising hard enough, sleeping well, not stressing out, eating nutritiously, tracking every morsel, drinking water and managing my macros, I still don't lose weight. That is discouraging, but being committed means pushing forward. Eventually something's got to give. Weight loss is never a linear process and it gets harder the closer you are to goal weight.

you don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step.

We are finally back home as of today; back to 100 Days and I AM committed!

I have been committed to better health for some time now and re-starting 100 Days is such a great way to reinforce that commitment. Sometimes it is easy to slide a little bit; I have....a little extra snack here...a little less exercise there....well, I'm here to say that the slide stops now and 100 Days will help me stick to that. I am not quitting...as long as I'm living, I'm going to be trying to be the healthiest me I can be.

I may not post every day but since I'm also trying to do 100 days of strength training (meaning at least some strength exercise every day), I will try to log my strength effort each time I post.

I am committed to not quitting. In the past I have flitted from one thing to another when I got bored or thought some other method might work. I spent so much time just reading and thinking about what I was going to do.

I am committed to just sticking with it - I will be calorie counting, portion controlling, making healthier choices and doing a daily exercise routine. I am committed to not being perfect - I know I won't be, and that means I will be committed in spite of my imperfection. I will be committed to not quitting when I have a bad day.

Interested or Committed? and what that means to you.

I think I have demonstrated that I am Committed: I show up Every Day, No Matter What.
I am committed to my health and my goals and I stick with my approach or make reasonable adjustments and course corrections.

Thought to consider:
Changing to a stable, healthy way to eat consistently while you are losing weight is a totally different way of thinking. We stop diets. When we live life, we deal with things that come up. Are you willing to deal with challenges that come up? Are you Worth it? Absolutely. I am worth it; and if I don't do this for myself who will? When I 'want' to eat something (for whatever reason) I can say to myself "Yes! Go ahead and eat (carrots, celery, peppers). Knock yourself out." This works way better than saying "No" or resisting; it doesn't trigger rebellion. You may be chewing angrily, but you are probably calming that Monster. Best if you journal about the event afterwards, once you're calm. I think this works because it is much like a child having a tantrum, they can't hear reason in the moment and only escalate the situation.

Decide: I am committed. What that means is that I show up every day for cardio and movement. I look for ways to add strength training and additional activity to my days. I plan my nutrition and follow my plan. I track all my food. When the scale fails to reflect my effort I analyze to determine why not. If I find my commitment waning I review my goals and reasoning to get back on track. If I have to re-commit daily until the day I die then so be it. I will do that too.

~ do at least 1 thing today that demonstrates your commitment: cardio this AM, strength training during lunch break, fresh freggies for breakfast and snacks, lentils for lunch.

~ Share your thoughts: Commitment is not enough in my case. The nut I need to crack is how to budge my results. All NSV, back-slapping for effort, is pointless, in my opinion, if the results I want never follow.

Wishing everyone success!

Peace and Care

I had a serious talk with ... ME ... again. How much time have I spent on this roller coaster???? Lose, gain ... gain, lose.

When I was part of a Sparks BLC team ... I did the weekly stats. There were many who reported 2,000 minutes of cardio in a week ... just 7 days. Blew my mind. I asked repeatedly how anyone could do that ... coz that equals 33+ hours a week. Well, I still don't think it's right ... but someone did respond that they personally looked at losing weight as ... a full time job.

That last part stuck with me ... full time job.

I am committed which means "no matter what!"

Every evening I plan in writing the next day's food ... and follow through.
I ensure I have MY food available at alllllll times.
The care package goes with us ... every where.
Walking 5 times a week ... just do IT.

I'm sooooooo done being "interested" ... that hasn't gotten me to the finish line. KNOWING that maintenance will be the next step and that looks like the losing part with limited modification.

Day 2. Interested or committed!
I've been interested a few times before. Gill, I like your quote! Yes, that says it all. This time I am committed. I've made that shift 11 days ago. When I said, I'm going to commit to no more using food to fix some emotion. No more running to food. I'm committed to stay the course. YES! I'm committed! No more just interested. Enough is enough. I'm well on my way. I committed to this 11 days ago. And have there been bumps yes! BUT I stay committed this time NO MATTER WHAT!

TOPS2KOPSVILLE, the Sparkpeople pledge made me think of the TOPS pledge: I am an intelligent person. I will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me. Every time I am tempted to use food to satisfy my frustrated desires, build up my injured ego, or dull my senses, I will remember that even though I overeat in private my excess poundage is there for all the world to see what a fool I've been.

Day #2 Interested or Committed?
This question always makes me pause and take a good look at my actions or lack of action!
I AM committed to a healthy lifestyle.
To make sure this statement is true, I need to develop a "no matter what" attitude in my daily life.
It comes down to just paying attention to what I do daily.
It's time to stop wishing and hoping for change.
It's time to make the changes part of my life.

"I promise to make healthy and positive choices so that I can live a healthy lifestyle and reach my goals." Sparkpeople pledge

I know I am committed and have been for almost a year; however, this was one of my most difficult steps. For mostly 30 years I was just "interested," and my attention was easily distracted. I was a yo-yo dieter. Sadly, it is the chronic pain that keeps me focused--at least that is a positive to something very negative. The pain has changed my life in so many good ways, and for that I am thankful.

Another huge challenge has been to "deal with things that come up"--challenges to my peace, crises, worry, ...all those things that disrupt my daily living and drive me into the emotional eating mode. I'm still working on this, but that too, has been a positive. Part of what I'm doing now is seeking information. I'm also learning how to use physical activity as a shield to my emotional chaos.

I will be going to the pool this morning to show commitment, but I may also meditate. I need to walk my dog later, and that is always a good time for self reflection.

God bless, and everyone have a fabulous second day of the rest of our lives! Get out there and make it count!

Day 2 Interested or Committed?.....
Interest slips away quickly
With interested, you tend to stay with your plans only until something better comes along like doughnuts or treats in break room or at coffee at church, holidays, parties. Then, when you struggle, you blame everyone but yourself. you fall into "if only" thinking,
Committed means "no matter what!"
When you're truly committed to achieving your goals, you have an entirely different outlook. Unlike being interested, where it doesn't take much to detract you from your goals, being committed means you stick with it, no matter what.
Rather than depending on results to help you stay on track, you work on keeping your motivation strong, knowing that results will follow. You don't blame circumstances or other people for your struggles. Instead, you stay on your diet in spite of not having enough money, time, or supportive friends and family members.
Start adopting a "no matter what" attitude, then convince yourself you can stay with your goals regardless of your daily challenges.
I was committed but now lately been interested so time to get my committed back.
I will stick to my program-my lifestyle change no matter what
Even if food is there for me to grab- I can choose to have only if I have an exchange for it or choose to have at a later date.
I will measure my food esp. when at home and use the eyeball method to best of ability when out. box up half or share with a friend. Look up menus and ask questions.
Commit to journaling my exchanges and food along with the portions. You bite you write. and write everything down break it down from all that goes into sandwich, casserole etc...
I am committed to making my menus and following thru to best as possible depending on situations and then make healthiest choice possible
Snacking in evening- I will committed to saving a exchange or two and having something that will satisfy my tummy
Fitness- I will commit to making a plan esp. when spring comes to walking 30 minutes and a plan to getting to gym.
Also I need to commit to getting my other two rooms organized. by doing one thing in each room.
NO MATTER WHAT TODAY I WILL JOURNAL MY FOOD AND EXCHANGES AND PORTION CONTROL- JUST DO IT.
Today is work so I will get my steps in.

I think I probably post this picture every time I do Day 2 - but it still helps me stay focussed. When I first did the book, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out the difference between Interested and Committed ........ I've come to the conclusion that it's a kind of continuum really - sometimes I'm more committed than others. But bringing myself BACK to being committed each time is what really matters.

Day 2 - I am committed to a healthy eating plan and to squeezing in exercise. I am finding it difficult to getting in enough walking, but am trying to do it in my lunch break and first thing in the morning.
