Those were lovely rainbows, Maria. I met up with four other recorder players on Wednesday, plus our teacher we were six - all spread out in a church. It was so joyful to be with others; we're social animals.

Lots of rainbows. Today I went to a friend's home for yoga. How I have missed yoga class. It was challenging but I so appreciated that I was with fellow yogis and not doing my practice alone.

They have opened indoor dining here at 25% and yesterday I ate lunch with 4 ladies from my former water aerobics class. What a blessing to meet and catch up.

There are also not-so- great things like fires to the south and north of me bringing ash and brown skies but for now life is good.. emoticon

Day 74 - Watch for Rainbows

I am pretty good at enjoying rainbows and avoiding things I don't like to do that need to be done.
Today there are many rainbows, it is DS's birthday, he is with us and we are embarking on a 4-day vacation to the interior of our province, DS, DDIL, DH and I and Ollie. I feel I will have great memories of this extra time sharing with DS and DDIL. We are COVID careful, with masking in public, social distancing, going to AirBnB that are COVID compliant with cleaning everything between guests... planning on going hiking, maybe a biking trip through a series of wineries, going to the lake ... all within our pod.

What a difference my Thursdays between last year and this year .. due to COVID and to the next generation taking over the daily farm work.

Thursdays used to be my day off after morning chores and walking with my neighbour, I would go out for the day starting with a Tai Chi class and be gone all day and come home for supper

- morning barn work - I love working in the barn - only do relief Sundays now
- walk with dogs in the fields with neigbour - we haven't walked together since March
- Tai Chi with brother and sister - no Tai Chi classes
- home-made healthy lunch at the mall with brother and friends - no more mall lunches
- Susan Point art exhibit visit with brother - doing something artsy was part of the Thursday day out
- special act of kindness bringing brother his repaired computer - unique to that day
- recycling centre drop-off - also part of my Thursday routine
- gleaned a big bag of apples - apples were on the route of my Thursday routine
- swim - public pool is closed
- supper and relaxing evening with DH - enjoying a bigger family group
- thank you phone call - unique to that Thursday last year from one of the lunch people who thanked me for preparing the meal passed away a few months ago.

Day 74 - Watch for rainbows

Lots of rainbows on Thursdays for me :)

- morning barn work - I love working in the barn
- walk with dogs in the fields
- Tai Chi with brother and sister
- home-made healthy lunch at the mall with brother and friends
- Susan Point art exhibit visit with brother
- special act of kindness bringing brother his repaired computer
- recycling centre drop-off
- gleaned a big bag of apples
- swim
- supper and relaxing evening with DH
- thank you phone call

Susan Point exhibit - some of my favourites

Thursday is my "day off", kind of, I do morning barn chores, then walk with my neighbour and our labs of 3 colours ( a blonde, a chocolate, and a black) plus our 2 more dogs (a Brittany spaniel and a shepherd x dachshund) .

I call it my day off because I leave at 9 am and come home at 6 pm - DH makes his own lunch on Thursdays.
The usual events are I pick up my brother and we go to Tai Chi. My sister also goes. Tai Chi people are awesome, like Sparkers and hikers, just a special brand of friendly, accepting and supportive people. Tai Chi is good for the body and mind. We do exercises and go through a set from 10-11. Then we have tea and chat a bit. Then we do more Tai Chi from about 11:30-12.
After that my brother and I head to the mall food court (sometimes my sister comes too, but lately she has been volunteering as a tutor in an adult literacy program) and we meet up with friends (Carey and Wilf are aboriginal, Bob is a university classmate and close friend of my brother) and I bring home- made food. This week we had chicken noodle soup made with half a chicken in the slow cooker with bowtie pasta, onions, carrots, celery, parsley, thyme, bay leaf. We had egg salad sandwiches with lettuce and tomatoes on multigrain home-made buns and we had grapes for dessert. I picked the grapes from our vine. The vine has no leaves left but still lots of grapes, and as it has already gone below freezing a few mornings, the grapes are very sweet, like ice wine grapes. I also bring well water in bottles from home, which my friends say tastes much better than the city water they usually drink. They always praise my food, and thank me, which makes me feel great. I often make things I like that DH doesn't, soup for example. DH says he only eats soup when he is sick. He doesn't like quinoa, I do and so do my friends. I invited my friends to go see an art exhibit by spectacular (in my opinion) aboriginal artist Susan Point, but they already had plans for the afternoon, so my brother and I went.
After the art exhibit, I dropped my brother off at his place, brought some stuff to the recycling centre ( I love the recycling centre atmosphere too, the friendly people, the worthwhile cause), then I picked up brother's computer from the repair shop. He is not very computer savvy and got hacked and ransomwared (an email saying if he didn't pay $300, his computer would be shut off and he wouldn't be able to use it until he purchased protection from them. the crooks) so I brought it in on Monday to be cleaned and debugged. The computer was ready, so I brought it back to him, kind of a special act of caring because I am going to see him this morning, but I brought it back last night because I know he enjoys playing chess and internet surfing on it. On the way to the pool, I stopped by the apple tree at the parachute centre. They have given me permission to take the apples, no one else does, otherwise the apples rot. I like fresh fruit, the apple tree has no leaves either and is loaded with apples. I think I will have fresh grapes for a few more weeks and fresh apples for another month. Next I went swimming, 15 laps = 750 meters. That felt good. Hot tub, swim, shower and change. Then I went home, made supper and ate with DH, had a relaxing evening. Just as I was getting ready to go to bed, the phone rang. It was Wilf, he said, I hope I didn't wake you, I just wanted to thank you for the chicken noodle soup. :) Final rainbow.

Day 74 Watch for Rainbows
Linda is a true blessing. I am grateful for her encouraging us to be grateful and see the good in our day. I am blessed to have a home where I feel safe. I am grateful to live in America. I am grateful for my dogs and the joy they add to my life. Gratitude is a daily benefit.

DAY #74 WATCH FOR RAINBOWS

I have worked hard in recent years to change my attitude from pessimist to optimist. I can easily revert back to that pessimistic thinking when I'm having a bad day so I am always on alert for negative thoughts. Instead of labeling myself as a pessimist I now think of myself as a optimist. I look for the rainbows and silver linings. I believe that everything happens when it does in the way it does for a reason. Pre-ordained or fate; however you want to title it.

~ Open your eyes wider and notice all the positive things that happen around you. Watch for bits of joy, kindness and beauty that cross your path. Keep your notebook handy and record all of these rainbows as they show up.

The other day I felt very disorganized. I even showed up to the Y without my shoes! I was grateful that I don't live far and so it was easy for me to go back home and get them in a timely fashion. THANKFUL! GRATEFUL!

The first time at the Y I had a great parking place and when I got back there, with shoes in hand, although my original space was gone, I had the next best thing one space over. THANKFUL! GRATEFUL!

~ at the end of your day, tell yourself, "This was a really good day because..." and then read your list. As you recall each rainbow, remind yourself of the pleasure and comfort it brought you.

I will look for all the rainbows I encounter today. In my journal you would see some days (usually bad days), denoted by a emoticon , when I have used an entire page listing all of the things I am grateful for.

~ During the weeks ahead, continue to watch for more tiny rainbows to smile about, then celebrate and appreciate every one of them!

Even if I have not had a bad day, I find something each day to be THANKFUL! GRATEFUL! for and write it in my journal.

Day 7 - Watch for the rainbows

I've been awake since 4 am, and got a bad night's sleep the night before, so I am vulnerable today to getting into negative thinking. BUT, instead, some rainbows to start my thinking off this morning: 1 - I've solidly lost 25 pounds!!!!!!! 2 - My husband and son; they are both great and treat me well. 3 - I have a nice, cushy part time job with a wonderful boss. 4 - I had a wonderful vacation with my husband in Europe with no major problems this summer.

Day 74, 100 days Watch for Rainbows

This day suggests cultivating a sense of gratitude for simple things that happen in life a day's learning that I do love too as its so easy to take these things for granted!

My rainbows are also my blessings and I am very lucky
My wonderful husband - together for 30 years and married for 19 years , two super children
a wonderful home, wonderful parents and a lovely MiL who is happy and healthy

I also saw beautiful blue sky today, bulbs starting to grow, flowers already showing, the frost quickly passed and the weather warmed. My dh coloured my hair and it's always nice to not be able to see the sparkles (grey hairs).

Rainbows - yes, I try to remember the rainbows. Life is full of them. My grandchildren are my precious rainbows on a daily basis. Then there's Jasmine - my ever faithful fur buddy. Starbucks coffee is right up there on top too. Reading, smiles from friends, caring words, a phone call . . . It's the little things that mean so much.

Sometimes I sure can relate with Linda's blog comment - There are days when nothing seems to go right!

And I recognized some of the traits Chele mentioned in myself - I have a tendency to be pessimistic and look at the things that are "wrong" instead of focusing on the things that are "right". This can make me a complainer and rather whinny and I don't like that about myself. So I recently wrote a goal for myself to resolve this.

Change is hard and as I write this I realize I have not devoted as much time to my new goal as I want to. Life gets busy and I easily lose my focus. Today I am officially done with a posting/responsibility that I have had for the past 2 years and hated every last minute of it. It has caused me more anxiety which I have soothed with food than I care to even think about. I am so done with all of it today!

Today I am going to be grateful for all of the emoticon in my life!

100 Days Challenge, Day 74 - See any rainbows today?

Today’s assignment:

1. Notice the positive things that happen around you today. Record these “rainbows” as you go through the day.

See any rainbows today? was about looking for the positives when days seem to be going wrong. A month or so ago we had a wind storm that took some of the tiles off our roof and it was an expense we hadn't planned on. Today while I was getting ready for a short nap, the wind picked up and made almost the same sound as when we lost the tiles. The key word is ALMOST. I'm really grateful that we didn't lose any more tiles and I'm grateful our Miss Jasmine settled down after being startled by the noise. The rainbow I found was I could HEAR the wind blowing. I'm grateful I can still hear. Today I soaked my feet and had Hubby spray on some BioFreeze afterward. Sometimes the pain in my left foot is nearly unbearable. The good thing (rainbow) is the BioFreeze helps temporarily at least. Later I'm having a protein shake with wheat germ added. That's one of my favorite treats. Yummy! And my body thanks me. Yep, another rainbow. I blogged about this and was pleased to hear other people were looking for rainbows after reading it.

2. At the end of your day, tell yourself, “This was a really good day because…,” then read your list. As you recall each rainbow, remind yourself of the pleasure and comfort it brought you.

This was a really good day because I recognized how many of my senses still work. I'm grateful for that. I love living in a free country where I can safely be in my own home. I'm grateful we have an abundance of blessings. Life is good and I am grateful.

3. Over the weeks ahead, continue to watch for more tiny rainbows to smile about, then celebrate and appreciate every one of them. Record them here.

Hubby has our truck remodel almost finished. Rainbow! Our dog likes her new dog food...another rainbow. I broke my weight plateau. Thanks to some of the lessons from this Team. Yay!

Joy is a Choice. Choose joy moment by moment.

When all else fails, persistence prevails.

Injoy:) Carolyn

Gill ... please explain your "older" living process of moving.

Hubby came to me yesterday and told me he was not sleeping ... this is a VERY big deal in our house due to his traumatic brain injury. Call the doc and were in his office by 3. Hubby is on a low dose of his "emergency" meds for a week. Then we reevaluate. He slept last night for 8 hours and then napped this morning already.

we are so very good at focusing on our weaknesses and mistakes and short-comings, aren't we?

I need this one today too because I'm going have to move house - something I need to do, not want to do - and it's really taking up a lot of my head-space, and I can feel how much it has wobbled my eating plans as well.

I've been doing morning pages (3 pages of free writing in the morning - from The Artist's Way book by Julia Cameron) - it's very similar in effect to gratitude journalling.

And I think you're right, Chele, we have to keep reminding ourselves all the time!

I need to read this EVERY DAY! I am a pessimistic, negative, angry person when it comes to myself. I ALWAYS focus on the negative.

I love this lesson and often share it with others, but I rarely use it for myself.

Day 74, 100 days Watch for Rainbows

This day suggests cultivating a sense of gratitude for simple things that happen in life.
emoticon
I agree with Cheri my rainbows are also my blessings and I have plenty.
I have a wonderful husband - together for 29 years and married for 18 years
I have two super children
I have a wonderful home
I have wonderful parents
I have a lovely MiL who has settled reasonably well into our family home
I have an income now from being helpful to my husband and caring for my MiL.
I have good friends both her on Spark and close by who would be there if I needed them.

Oh what inspiring posts - thank you everyone! Just at the moment, work seems to be clouding out the sky and I feel a million miles away from this - which is one of the images on my Spark page this January and reminds me how much I want to have more fun and freedom in my life!

Although, without really thinking too much about it - I wrapped my very colourful skinny scarf round my head this morning! Maybe I'll keep it on all day and be Rainbow Woman all day! (It'll probably get too hot to keep on at work!)

Day #74 Watch for Rainbows

I agree with all of you -- this is such a great lesson today! I've enjoyed reading all your responses.

I did experience a number of rainbows today, and have actually copied the suggested activities list into my email as a reminder that maintaining a positive and grateful viewpoint is a skill that can be cultivated.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Suggested activities for today
~ Open your eyes wider and notice all the positive things that happen around you. Watch for bits of joy, kindness and beauty that cross your path. Keep your notebook handy and record all of these rainbows as they show up.

~ at the end of your day, tell yourself, "This was a really good day because..." and then read your list. As you recall each rainbow, remind yourself of the pleasure and comfort it brought you.

~ During the weeks ahead, continue to watch for more tiny rainbows to smile about, then celebrate and appreciate every one of them!

I call my rainbows blessings and I have more than I deserve. Yes, it is easy to get down about a lot of things, but keeping a positive attitude makes a big difference. I have inner peace that is the underlying fabric of my life. I have a small, simple home, but I have a home. We live on 60 acres out in a peaceful patch of God's earth. I have a loving husband, together 43 years now. A good job. Children and grandchildren. Friends. I am blessed. emoticon

emoticon I experienced a meteor related sonic boom, and now have the memory of this most likely once in a lifetime event.

emoticon One of my headlights burned out last night on the way home from work. Tom was waiting on the porch with a replacement bulb when I got home, and took care of changing it in less than 5 minutes. Had this happened next week while I am 170 miles away at class, I would have to pay a mechanic and stress over it. God Bless Tom!

emoticon I have a roof over my head that is 99% leak free, a job that pays a good salary, a car that runs well most of the time and a love that will last a lifetime.

Day #74 Watch for Rainbows
emoticon I hope that every time I see this title I remember the real rainbow at our house the first time I read this lesson. It was spectacular!
I think my rainbows come during a hohum regular day when I look for something to be grateful for or when I’m out in nature.
Yesterday I watched several beautiful bright red cardinals and a few blue jays on the white snow in our back yard. Beautiful site!
I was sitting in the window painting a picture of a covered bridge.

Thanks, Sue. I have that tendency, and like you, can only guess it must be slight depression - I constantly have to lift myself up - perhaps everyone does, I don't know? You're right - taking action is important to keep it at bay. I'm glad you have found a place on Spark which meets your needs - I'll go and check it out, although I'm no longer on a weight loss journey, more of a weight maintenance journey.

Gil - Love how you have turned your day around!

Today's lesson came in handy already for me this morning too as I had a reply all typed up and then lost it when I hit the enter button. Darn, I hate it when that happens!

I seem to be plagued with mood swings for some reason that I have not been able to figure out despite my efforts, A form of slight depression I'm guessing and so probably due to those little chemicals running around my brain. I can actually "feel" my blues building and so I try to be vigilant so I can take action and find something to lift my spirits.

I have also found the most wonderful team called Embrace The Weight Loss Journey. This team is filled with gratitude and inspiration that have brought me so much peace of mind that I can't imagine not visiting there every day.

The emoticon I found for my computer woes - gratitude that I have a computer, it works, and it is portable so I could eat my healthy breakfast while I retyped this!

After catching up with Spark friends, I was inspired to just get out of the door and go for a walk - that picked me up so much and re-energised me. I've cleaned my cooker, cleared out some clutter, hoovered the carpet.

I'm feeling so much happier for getting out for that walk, and doing that cleaning. I think that's a rainbow...........
emoticon
I'm also on Day 3 of a 3-day refresher - having fruit & veg juices, smoothies, soups; my weight is already down over 2lbs, and I've slept really well.

I need this one today - I've got a week off work (holiday) and no real plans to do anything other than rest, and, of course, with no plan, I'm not really doing anything. I read something yesterday about the importance of BEING rather that DOING........... and I'm pondering this. Yes, it's grey, cold, rainy here today. And I've had a financial hiccough which I've 'solved' for now, but which really made me feel anxious. So I am grateful for this lesson today........ and will look for rainbows.

Day 74: Watch for rainbows
Do you ever have days when absolutely everything seems to go wrong? Maybe it's rainy and cold outside, you got to work late and your kids are fighting again. Pretty soon everything around you feels bleak and discouraging. During times like this, food starts looking like a really good friend.
But wait! You certainly don't have to give in and eat. Don't let challenges or discouragement affect your weight-loss actions. Instead of letting your struggles pull you down, start training yourself to notice all the good things around you.
Watch for the unexpected
Sometimes, the best things in life are totally unexpected. To get back your joy and sunshine, watch for the positive things that show up when you weren't even looking for them.
Label these tiny bright spots as rainbows-gifts that slip in quietly, giving you an emotional boost right in the middle of an otherwise difficult day.
Many times the world steps in and takes care of you without requiring anything in return. In order to take advantage of these unexpected treats, you have to open your heart and notice when they appear in your life.
Look around you. Is the sun shining? Was someone kind to you at the bank or in the grocery store? Did you drink a great cup of tea this afternoon? While these may seem like small things, if you pay attention to your rainbows and appreciate them, you can totally change your outlook.
Rainbows are everywhere
Sometimes noticing rainbows involves being grateful for what's already there. For example, do you have at least one person who truly loves and accepts you? Did you recently finish reading an inspirational book or a great newspaper article? Perhaps a song on the radio tugged at your emotions or brightened your spirit.
Cultivate a sense of gratitude about the simple things that happen in your life. Be thankful each time that your children arrive home safely after school. At bedtime, appreciate your cozy blanket and the way your pillow fluffs up under your head. Make notes about your rainbows and consider all the ways they help you feel better.
Open your eyes wider and notice all the positive things that happen around you. Watch for bits of joy, kindness, and beauty that cross your path. Keep your notebook handy and record all of these rainbows as they show up.
At the end of your day, tell yourself, "This was a really good day because...," then read your list. As you recall each rainbow, remind yourself of the pleasure and comfort it brought you.
Over the weeks ahead, continue to watch for more tiny rainbows to smile about, then celebrate and appreciate every one of them

Day 74 Watch for Rainbows

When I reviewed what I wrote the first time through, I was surprised to see that none of them still apply.

Rainbows, blessings, NSV's (non-scale victories) see synonymous to me.

Currently:

-my relationship with my boyfriend
-his daughter embracing me as a friend
-3 furkids
-a new job that I am enjoying
-a warm home
-the Hoosier

I am on here late because I decided to sleep in today and then watch some holiday movies with hubby before he went to bed.

I watch and note rainbows in every area of my life but weight loss. Why I don't know but that is going to change starting now.

The current rainbows in this area of my life are:

1) going through this book a second time really has been a turning of the tide. I suggest to anyone who is going through it once you owe it to yourself to go through it a second time.

2) I am within days of Christmas and I am not even looking at it as a time to 'nosh'. Is that revolutionary or what? It is to me. This has been a pivotal time for me in terms of connecting certain events or celebrations with food as in I am not doing that. Huge for me.

3) I am living in the gray area and it is becoming more comfortable all the time.

Day 74, 100 days Watch for Rainbows

In TOPS they we have NSV (non scale victories)

Some of my rainbows are the same but adding a few too.

emoticon I appreciate my grown sons who help me when needed. I appreciate my Mom. I appreciate a job, a roof over my head. I appreciate TOPS and all the helpful field staff helping me on my way to a lifestyle change. Yes I appreciate rain to water my garden. I appreciate living in America ,I appreciate my grandson.. Yep the birds and even the rabbits even though they eat in my garden. I appreciate this group and the book, retreat directors and TOPS as it helped me get me to where I am on my lifestyle change. I appreciate all my far away friends and even the few close friends I have. I appreciate my sisters, and my extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins who are still living. Yes I love nature with the birds, flowers, and yes the change of seasons are nice too.

My scale victory is becoming a KOPS getting to goal and below.

NON Scale victory- is journaling my exchanges, having grandson say he loves me. getting to gym. which I will start in January. feeling good about myself. not beating myself up if I fall off track.

Day 74 Watch for rainbows: Looking back am my August post, I see I am still a work in progress.

So I am a glass half empty sort of person. This chapter is a challenge for me. Looking for the good in everything.

I agree that being positive may help me have less stress, and less of a chance of eating due to stress or depression. I will work on this. (I am still working on this).

I stress about minor events in life. I often know that but they are storm clouds for me. I will be searching for the rainbows. This week I remember one instance where I tried to push the positive and I ended up over reacting to something, like I had snapped. My hormones were wacky due to PMS but I felt myself lose control. Like I said, I am a work in progress.

One rainbow I see is I have a loving husband and two beautiful daughters. Another is that I am going to another Holiday concert tonight to hear my 16 year old daughter sing in the HS chorus.

And yet another is that I am posting here today! Let me see what other rainbows I can find.

Have a great day!

Linda - a bit late, but I am so happy that your home is intact.

For today's lesson. Rainbows - The little gifts that come quietly into my life.

I am grateful for:
*Quest protein powder and bars
*Internet shopping. I have looked in my local stores for 2 or 3 years for my favorite sports bra. By finally going to the internet site and finding my style but not my size, I contacted them to see if they were discontinuing the style. They responded yes, but that they had one more shipment coming in. Within days they contacted me, I looked and ordered, and had my replacements within another couple of days.
*SparkPeople articles, trivia, members and this team.
* emoticon I love cardinals. They are rainbows in winter!

This is the perfect day for rainbows. I just got home from a week of being in a hotel because of the mandatory evacuation due to the blue cut fire in California. My home and the area around my home did not burn, the police patrolled my neighborhood to make sure that looting did not occur.all of my family and animals are fine. I have many friends who lost pets and some who lost everything. I have been so lucky.

goal is to be able to walk again

Long day today. Love that we are urged toward noticing our rainbows. One of mine today: simple table grapes for dinner tomorrow.

Enjoyed reading all of your rainbows! Rainbows have kept me from posting lately. DS and other family surprised us with unexpected visits. The rain analogy applies. DS is here recovering from shin splints from hiking the PCT, starting at the bottom of California and all the way up to Oregon. I am reading along and hope to get back to posting! xox

It is just a rainbow reading all of the rainbows in your lives. emoticon emoticon

Yes, it took me a very long time to bring 'gratitude' in my life. I love what DJB said about how the island people have a saying about 'no rain---no rainbow'. emoticon emoticon It is a good and simple phrase to remember and recall. Thanks for sharing.

So far today my rainbows included: emoticon

an afternoon spent catching up on our Bible study materials with my hubby, Paul.

recommitting my ' health and wellness; efforts with ordering healthy groceries which Paul is now picking up

my self-honesty which prompted me to correct my weight loss goals as well as update my SP ticker including a slow regain of 12 lbs. over the past couple of months.

that although we don't know the outcome yet of the outpatient surgery for Paul we are grateful that whatever was in him is now out and now he can recover from that invasive procedure.

that today is my Dad's birthday and although it was not a good one a year ago (he was told he had 6 months to live) I know he is in a better place and not in pain or suffering which gives me peace.

that my new pillows I bought recently were just what I needed and I had a second night of much better sleep.

Those are just a few of the emoticon in my day today.

This is a copy of the last time through this book. It is a lesson I need to read often because most of the news we read and hear is so negative. Maybe I will buy a "gratitude journal" and get back some of my joy!
Today is a rainy day, maybe we will have another rainbow. emoticon
Day #74 Watch for Rainbows
I hope that every time I see this title I remember the real rainbow at our house yesterday. It was spectacular!
For several years I kept a gratitude journal and this lesson is basically that concept. During the day I watched for things that I was grateful for to write down each evening. Even now I sometimes flip through those old journals and am reminded that most of the time it was simple things in nature, a bluebird, a butterfly, a flower or a smile from hubby that brought joy.
Even on the most trying days, if I looked for it, there was something good.
Today I will write things in my "magic notebook" that catch my eye.

Day 74, 100 days Watch for Rainbows

This is a good one. We have a busy life and dont stop to appreciate the small things..
We need to take time to smell the roses or watch for the rainbows.

My rainbows
I appreciate my grown sons who help me when needed.

I had thought I had a bad day yesterday I needed to calm down and i message a friend of mine who help me calm down so I could think about making a healthy meal. Instead I made new plans. I appreciate all my far away friends and even the few close friends I have. I appreciate my sisters, and my extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins who are still living.

I appreciate this group and the book, retreat directors and TOPS as it helped me get me to where I am on my lifestyle change. The scale has been going down and I am getting closer and closer to my goal weight.

When you start writing them down there are so many rainbows in my life.

Day 74: Watch for rainbows

emoticon
So I am a glass half empty sort of person. This chapter is a challenge for me. Looking for the good in everything.

I agree that being positive may help me have less stress, and less of a chance of eating due to stress or depression. I will work on this. Today we are working on figuring out how yellow jackets are getting inside my daughter’s room through her window, and bringing in my car for service. The car has issues when the AC is turned on and I think the muffler is going. We believe there are multiple nests in the molding outside her window. We can seal that up but we have to figure out how they are getting inside. The window is 2 years old.

These are minor events in life, I know that, but they are storm clouds for me. I will be searching for the rainbows.

One rainbow I see is my daughter’s art work (and other students work) is being shown at our town’s music and art festival today.

Another is that I am posting here today! Let me see what other rainbows I can find.

emoticon

Wow! Odd for me to be the first one posting ... officially it's still 'yesterday' here but I have read 'tomorrow's' chapter ... Watch for Rainbows (having trouble sleeping/so reading/posting)...

I do this every day ... watch for or acknowledge the Rainbows! 'We' do it together even - my husband and I. I haven't always been that type of person ... I was always a glass half empty kinda gal most of my life. Now my glass overflows!!!!!!

There's a saying here in Hawaii ... 'no rain - no rainbows' ... so even when it 'rains' one knows something nice is coming.

I have a special rainbow that happened this morning ... I watched a tiny baby gecko probably taking it's first exploratory 'venture' out into this big wide world. I was having tea on the lanai when I noticed him come out ... it was fascinating to watch him ... so tiny - just a baby - the youngest I've EVER seen ... hardly bigger than my thumbnail including his tail. He would take a few steps - look around ... and I thought about how his life must seem - hatching out of an egg ... all alone ... yet knowing what to do/how to exist ... following his inner knowing. Having to be so BRAVE ... surely I can do the same - ha! Especially with all the 'help' I get!!!!

My husband and I have a habit of looking at each other throughout the day and saying "Are we having a good day?" and we smile and say "YES" ... even though we may be having the hardest time - maybe dirty, sweaty from yardwork or him working on the car, or tackling some long term project that just can't seem to 'get done' ... we acknowledge we are alive, relatively healthy, have all we need (maybe not what we 'want' but mostly what we need), live in a wonderful place, have wonderful neighbors and community, an absolutely fantastically adorable dog...well, the list could go on and on ... but yes, we see Rainbows everyday, everywhere!

There's always a rainbow!

Day 74 - Watch for Rainbows

This is a great tip. I too need to stop the pity party, the excuse brigade, the negative nellie in my head ... my first rainbow of the day was feeling refreshed when I woke up this morning. Sleep can be a challenge for me, and have a fresh morning is a great rainbow in life.

This is what a gratitude journal is for. Sometimes I have crappy days, but my crappy days are still just part of a charmed life where I have friends and family and boyfriend who love me; a job I look forward to that also pays the bills; fabulous health; political freedom; etc. etc. It is such a luxury to be able to have a bad day because I got stuck in traffic (in my paid off, safe, smoothly running car), my computer is running slow (I have a computer!), and it rained when I wanted to go hiking (so my garden is well watered and my legs are still healthy for another day). No pity parties for me.

We can get so bogged down by the negative ... while the endless positive goes unnoticed.

I keep a gratitude journal when life "feels" difficult. I am amazed at how much is going "right".

Day 74... Watch for Rainbows

This lesson seems very simplistic, but reinforcing positive thoughts is very powerful.

There is so much negativity and scary stuff in the world right now, it would be easy to fall into a depression of sorts if we didn't remind ourselves of our own personal rainbows.

emoticon I keep a picture of my grandkids taped on the edge of my computer monitor at work, so all day long I am reminded how blessed I am. Now matter how bad my day is, I look at that picture and can smile!

I'm sleeping better.
I no longer get chest pains.
I had a delicious cup of coffee today.
I watched a favorite movie tonight that I'd been looking forward to.

I'll try to do this one more often! I did have a pretty good day, I got good news medically yesterday and am feeling more relaxed today than I have in weeks, I accomplished some good things at work, the weather was beautiful, and I had a nice dinner/evening with my boyfriend.

Day 74 Watch for rainbows

Note: If you find your way to the beginning of this thread, which was started in 2011, you'll find inspiration from posts made about this activity.

Here are today's suggested activities:

1. Open your eyes wider and notice all the positive things that happen around you. Watch for bits of joy, kindness, and beauty that cross your path. Keep your notebook handy and record all of these rainbows as they show up.

2. At the end of your day, tell yourself, “This was a really good day because...........” and then read your list. As you recall each rainbow, remind yourself of the pleasure and comfort it brought you.

3. During the weeks ahead, continue to watch for more tiny rainbows to smile about, then celebrate and appreciate every one of them.

Isn't it good to spot the things we are grateful for and so often take for granted? What beautiful lists everyone is offering.

I'll do this exercise when I get home but will report that I had to answer a lengthy series of health questions when I registered with a new optician last week. I realised that I didn't have any of the listed conditions, that I'm medication-free and financially independent. Lots to be grateful for!

Day 74

My day has been filled with rainbows today! I saw a fox (and he saw me) - I ate blackberries from the hedgerows on my lovely walk. A friend gave me a pair of trousers that don't fit her. My Friends with the Scale book arrived. I bought lovely heirloom tomatoes from a roadside stall. It didn't rain on me. I have a new-to-me jigsaw puzzle to work on. I have a delicious meal cooking in my oven. I am enjoying 2 weeks' holiday from work. I'm on Day 74!

Day 74- Watch for rainbows

~ Open your eyes wider and notice all the positive things that happen around you. Watch for bits of joy, kindness and beauty that cross your path. Keep your notebook handy and record all of these rainbows as they show up.

~ at the end of your day, tell yourself, "This was a really good day because..." and then read your list. As you recall each rainbow, remind yourself of the pleasure and comfort it brought you.

~ During the weeks ahead, continue to watch for more tiny rainbows to smile about, then celebrate and appreciate every one of them!

We have got to come and visit with our daughter and 3 grandkids.
DSIL is 7 months sober and doing well. He is employed full time for the first time in 3+ years.
Hubby and I are together. Retirement is wonderful.
I can be around food and know I have a choice. We made brownies and I did not eat ANY.

For awhile I was posting what I was grateful for, and I have gotten out of that habit.

Here are a few rainbows from yesterday:

-I was able to bless a young Mom of four with a box of school supplies. She stopped by our home yesterday with two of the kids, a 3 year old girl and 5 year old boy. The boy asked if he could borrow our skateboard to check out our ramp! I had to explain it's for wheelchairs, then both kids gleefully ran in circles, down the ramp, up the steps, across the porch and down again, over and over laughing and giggling. Then the laid down at the top of the ramp and rolled to the bottom, over and over.

What a joy in the laughter of children!

-DH is in a good place with his new med

-I can feel my upper body getting stronger. I don't struggle so much when lifting the big fifty pound wheelchair in/out of the trunk.

-I found yarn on sale and ordered some for my new projects

-I finished my book #4 in the Yada Yada Prayer group series, and ordered #5

All in all, yesterday had a lot of rainbows!

I like the lyrics to Enya's song, "Wild Child":

Ever close your eyes
Ever stop and listen
Ever feel alive
And you've nothing missing
You don't need a reason
Let the day go on and on

Let the rain fall down
Everywhere around you
Give into it now
Let the day surround you
You don't need a reason
Let the rain go on and on

What a day, what a day to take to
What a way, what a way to make it through
What a day, what a day to take to a wild child

Only take the time
From the helter skelter
Every day you find
Everything's in kilter
You don't need a reason
Let the day go on and on

Every summer sun
Every winter evening
Every spring to come
Every autumn leaving
You don't need a reason
Let it all go on and on

emoticon emoticon it's a lot like stop 2 smell the roses emoticon emoticon

it helps me to notice the rainbows & roses along the way through the day. it helps stave off the tuff stuff from swamping me into negative emotions...

there is a lot of beauty and blessings we enjoy in this day and age, and when i get to feeling bad, stopping to ponder them, as they occur truly helps me stay positive (i call that taking a mental bubble bath :)

~ i have enough to eat (& more!)
~ a warm cozy bed
~ a lovely, clean pool to swim in
~ clean, cold, refreshing water to drink
~ furbabies who waller & love to chase balls, who are always glad 2 see me
~ bright sun to cheer me...
~ a butterfly that ambled across my path...
~ a new friend @ the pool who wanted to talk freggies! imagine that!!! LOL ;)

emoticon Day 74 Watch for Rainbows

Do you ever have days when absolutely everything seems to go wrong? Maybe it's rainy and cold outside, you got to work late, and your kids are fighting again. Pretty soon everything around you feels bleak and discouraging. During times like this, food begins to look like a really good friend.

But wait! You certainly don't have to give in and eat. Don't let these challenges or discouragements affect your weight-loss actions. Instead of letting your struggles pull you down, start training yourself to notice all the good things around you.

emoticon Watch for the unexpected
Sometimes the best things in life are totally unexpected. To get back your joy and sunshine, watch for the positive things that show up when you aren't even looking for them.

Label these tiny bright spots as rainbows -- gifts that slip in quietly, giving you an emotional boost right in the middle of an otherwise difficult day.

While these may seem like small things, if you pay attention to your rainbows and appreciate them, you can totally change your outlook.

emoticon Rainbows are everywhere
Sometimes noticing rainbows involves being grateful for what's already there. For example, do you have at least one person who truly loves and accepts you? Did you recently finish reading an inspirational book or a great newspaper article? Perhaps a song on the radio tugged at your emotions or brightened your spirit.

Celebrate a sense of gratitude for the simple things that happen in your life. Be thankful each time your children arrive home safely after school. At bedtime, appreciate your cozy blanket and the way your pillow fluffs up under your head. Make notes about your rainbows and consider all the ways they help you feel better.
