DAY #89 AT MY BEST!


We are asked - Remember when? Remember the good old days? Have there been times in your life when you were in sync and on a roll? How do you act when you're living and performing at your best? When life is going great, what kinds of things are in place for you? What gives you energy or makes you happy? We are asked to "Recall any times in the past when you were at a healthy weight or were exercising regularly".

I got a chuckle out of this because I don't think I have ever had "good old days" when it came to weight loss! Here is a bit of my weight loss history -

When I got out of high school I was working on losing weight - by starving myself.
After I got married the weight crept back on so I went to WW - I lived for cheating on weekends.
That didn't last, but during a stressful time in my life I lost weight I lost weight - by replacing food with parties & drinking.
After our son passed away and my weight ballooned I got semi-serious about weight loss - by following SP.

At none of these times did I ever work on the things that needed to change in order for my weight loss to become permanent - my BRAIN! So in recent years I have focused on finding ways to be the Best Version Of Myself more than I have at any other time in my life.

Today, we are to build a list of words and phrases that describe what we are really like when we're at your absolute best. AT MY BEST THIS IS WHAT I AM LIKE:

Spiritually: I am devoted to God and building a closer relationship to Him.
Physically: I eat healthy foods according to my diet plan; I follow my fitness plan.
Emotionally: I feel grounded and confident, strong, on-top-of-the-world, joyful, happy.
Mentally: I am energetic, organized, and ready to tackle any task with a positive attitude..

Day 89 - At My Best


When I am feeling good, I have a hard time imagining that I will have moments when I will eat off plan, that just seems stupid, why would I do that? When I am feeling confident, positive, happy, I can easily stick to my plan. I have resilience. That deflates when I have contrary sequences of events. Right now I am behind on 2 major projects and the holiday family events are creeping up. I would like to finish these projects before the family events. And it feels miserable to be behind and not sure if I can get them done or do them as well as I want to with the time I have. So, I don't feel good about myself, and the ball is in my court to get active and stop procrastinating.

June -- Pacific Time Zone
Where you end up is more important than how fast or where you start out.
- Improved fitness and nutrition, energy and confidence are my rewards.
It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
A PH (personal high) is the main goal, a PB is the sometime icing on the cake.
Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.

Day 89 - At my best

Seeking God daily thru Bible reading and prayer
Cooking healthy dinners at home
Daily walk
Working on my personal goals
Working at being a good wife and mother
Spending time with other people

Note: I've had the major change of my son going to college in 2018, so I've become an empty nester. An adjustment.

My ideas remain similar to last time :-

I am feeling at my best just now.

I am confident and more secure about many things even working hard on my new car (never good with new cars!)
I walk taller and more confidently
I continue to smile more and mean it! :-)
I feel sexier and enjoy my relationship with my dh
I go to exercise classes and have fun!
I am very happy with my life!

My ideas are very similar to last time :-
I am at my healthy target weight (which I am this week and have been for 2 years (mostly) now)
I am confident and more secure about many things even parking!
I walk taller and more confidently
I continue to smile more and mean it! :-)
I wear sexier clothes
I feel sexier and enjoy my relationship with my dh
I am more patient with myself
I go to exercise classes and have fun!
I'm happier with life!

100 Days Challenge, Day 89 - At my best

At my best I am upbeat, a determined optimist. I am determined and I persevere. I exercise daily, read and write. I feel good about myself and all of my life. I spread joy whenever and wherever I can. I am content and at peace. I am happy to be alive.

At my best I am all the things I've ever posted in this thread! And all the things that are in the picture I'm currently using for my profile pic.

The words are probably to small to read on here. I have this as my desktop picture on my PC too - fab words, all of them


But today, I am at my best when I am optimistic, grateful, kind, thoughtful, generous, interested, brave, adventurous, playful, energetic, flexible.

Page bookmarked to work through again. I don't find this one easy and I am into the part of the book, which doesn't gel for me.

What I said in 2014 - "I'm an honest, loyal, loving person and a very good teacher (modest too lol )."

I rather put Hubby on the spot and asked him for a couple of characteristics. He added 'Intelligence' and 'Fortitude'.

The difficulty lies in believing in myself.

Day 89 At my Best! Wake-up ready to seize the day! Taking care of my body and looking good. Energy to work on home improvement projects--deep cleaning, painting, fixing, decorating, planning and hiring contractors. Organized to find anything in an instant. Enjoy home cooked meals. Eat when hungry, stop when satisfied and save some for another day. Having fun activities everyday---exercise classes, visits with home-care clients, walking Buddy to see our friends and appreciate the beauty of nature. Sleeping well to have another productive, fun day!

Today I'm repeating my last At my BEST:

"At my best I plan and look forward to healthy meals

At my best I realize that, although I am 70 I can do the things I did at 50"

I have always seen myself as a work in progress. I am ever changing, growing, learning. So "my best" changes. There are things I want in my life...that will make me a better person...that I have not fully developed yet. But I will.
My best self at this current place in my life. Two are from her client's list
Grounded and centered. I am reliable, dependable, and faithful
Connected spiritually. I daily cultivate my faith and am active in church
I am creative. I love art and music and pursue both

I was particularly taken by your second one, Chris - taking time for others. Yes!

At my best:

I am patient and encouraging with everyone I meet
I smile a lot
I feel glad to be alive
I am up-to-date with meal planning, budgeting and housework
I don't use food to comfort myself

When I am at my best I have enough energy to do things well. I can finish a task --and have enough energy to clean up after it, like put groceries away , for example.

I can listen to others being focused on their message, not squirming around to go and read my book or relax in a recliner.

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

Spangler asks us to look back and remember when a time when we were at our best. I can't say I remember a time like that, but I can remember several times when I was at my worst I am embarrassed to admit.

I have lacked self-confidence my entire life. People who know me would never guess that about me and when I mention it they look and say things that indicate they really don't believe it could be true.

2002 was a life changer for me when our son died. I had another life changing moment this past March during Lent when Dynamic Catholic present The Best Lent Ever 2017. It focused on becoming the best person you could be. The kind of person that God always intended you to be. This theme was a real emoticon moment for me and a blessing as it went hand in hand with the goals I had set for myself for 2017. I just re-read my Spark Page the other day where those goals are posted and they still apply today.

I am evolving!

After spending time going through these lessons (more than once) and being honest with what I'm doing not just what I want to do that I can honestly say I am at my best.
It will always be a struggle to stay in this place because uncontrollable things happen in life and I still hate exercise!
However I do love walks with fellow Sparker Tina so I'll keep walking! emoticon

Day 89: At my best
How do you act when you're living and performing at your best? When life is going great, what kinds of things are in place for you? What gives you energy or makes you happy?
Remember the days when you felt confident, strong, capable, and able to face challenges head-on. Even if it's been years ago, think of times when you were truly at your best in many areas of your life including physically as well as mentally and emotionally. Think about any times in the past when you were at a healthy weight or were exercising regularly.
"I used to be great!"
We never really lose our characteristics from the past. But as the years go by, we tend to lose sight of our strengths and our gifts. Sometimes, we start seeing only the parts of ourselves that we don't like. To bring back the qualities and concepts you've lost, remind yourself that you still value them. Then intentionally put them into your life again.
Today you'll build a list of words and phrases that describe what you are really like when you're absolutely at your best. As you create your list, think of your best personality traits as well as your skills. Remember that all of these beautiful words remain true even on days when you don't feel like them.
you'll see an "at my best" list from Rita, a weight-loss client. She says, "Whenever I start feeling down about myself, I review my list. Then I try to live exactly like those descriptive phrases. It always pulls me back out of the dumps and helps me avoid using food to cheer myself up."
At my best, this is what I'm like:
* Energetic, bouncy, smile a lot, have twinkly eyes
* Laugh easily, tell jokes, feel good physically
* Grounded, centered, confident about my abilities
* Productive, hard-working, accomplish a lot
* Blend well with people, relate easily, enjoy being with my friends
* Hug and cuddle my husband a lot, encourage sex and intimacy
* Connected spiritually, cultivate my faith, attend church regularly
* Physically strong, fit, flexible, play tennis and golf
In your notebook, write, "At my best, this is what I'm like..." Then list every descriptive word and phrase you can think of that portrays how you act, look, feel, or live when you are at your very best.
Read your list out loud and notice the energy and enthusiasm it generates.
Save your list and read it often, especially at times when your self-esteem droops. Remind yourself that all of these phrases are true, regardless of whether or not you actually feel that way.

I am journaling and tracking
I am determined
I am motivated and persistent
I am dependable
I am strong
I am Journaling and tracking exchanges
I Make good food exchanges
I am Energetic
I am Active
I am there for my family members
I am kind and considerate

I am AT MY BEST because I will work at it . When I have setbacks I am the best because I can get over it and move forward. it no longer a week or month long setback.

I am at my best when I -

Take care to eat nutrient dense foods
Excercise on plan
Get enough sleep at night
Get out into nature as often as I can
Set S.M.A.R.T. goals
Keep an eye on the big picture and don't sweat the small stuff
Stop rehashing the regrettable past. Focus on my resilience not on my past defeats.
Be grateful for the good things in my life.
Am realistic and value action over hope
Don't expect perfection from myself
Don't compare myself poorly against others
Accept people for who they are not for who I think they could or should be
Give genourously of my time , energy and money to those who need it
Balance my duties with enjoying life
Am living my own authentic life

My home is running fairly smoothly.
I feel like I can deal with whatever the day will bring.

At my Best:

Day 89 At my best

I enjoyed revisiting what I wrote last time....

When I am living and performing at my best my mind is focused. Nothing distracts me from my goal. Negative comments bounce off and I can block out possible distractions. I give myself the energy. I can do it, (or I choose to do it!) Working to reach my goal makes me happy. I felt great when I was at a healthier weight. I now feel great every time I make a healthier choice.

There are times when I feel “I used to be great!” For example: When I lost sight of my goal to stay healthier and regained all plus more than I lost while following Weight Watchers.

At my best, this is what I am like:

Yes Pam, forgot about the "closer" Starting and finishing a project. Sometimes I start doing too many things at once. That is when the stress builds.

Skirunner, I am an avoider as well! If I feel confident about it I am all for it, but if there are too many variables or unknowns, leave me out!

At my best, I am perceptive, loyal, industrious, curious and supportive. I have a wry sense of humor. I like washing dishes by hand. I'm courageous (even though I am a major avoider by nature). I love drinking cold water. I'm super private but (and) fairly social.

At my very best, I am at a comfortable weight and can eat healthily without too much trouble. emoticon

Weight from the procedure is gone! Yippee!!! Thank you water!!!

Loved reading this whole thread....

Here goes! When I'm at my best I.....
feel comfortable in my skin
embrace life with all its ups and downs
make time for healthy activities every day
make more good food choices than bad
feel like I have some control in my life
have my priorities in order most of the time
look like the confidant, personable woman I am (when I'm at my best!)

Haven't read the thread yet, but it was worth it just to hear "been feeling quite duff." Duff! Probably just how it sounds? But not the urban slang here. It's pretty mean!

cheerful, generous, encouraging, supportive, creative, calm, reasonable, energetic, pacifier/mediator, inspirational, lively, fun, brave, adventurous, surprising, kind, resourceful, practical, graceful, cute, good writer/presenter, nice handwriting, clever, quick, innovative, bright, intuitive, helpful, wise, curious.

It's good to be reminded about this ........I've been feeling quite duff the last few days!

Day 89 – At my best

Note: If you find your way to the beginning of this thread, which was started in 2011, you'll find inspiration from posts made about this activity.

Here are today's suggested activities:

1. In your notebook, write, “At my best, this is what I'm like:” Then list every descriptive word and phrase you can think of that portrays how you act, look, feel, or live when you are at your very best.

2. Read your list out loud and notice the energy and enthusiasm it generates.

3. Save your list and read it often, especially at times when your self-esteem droops. Remind yourself that all of these phrases are true, regardless of whether or not you feel that way.

I think Linda Spangle's list fits me well except one which I deleted:

I also find it very hard to think of positives about myself, I can see the positives in others and compliment them but find find it hard to acknowledge the positives in myself. Here goes. I was thin until my forties when raising kids, finishing up my college education, and then moving up the ladder in my career took precedence over being active. I still always found fault with myself when I was thin rather than acknowledging my strengths. I feel that I am at my best now. My positive traits are, caring, great planner, love to help someone in need or put a smile on someone's face .

Suggested activities for today :)

-I am organized and enjoy a clean home
-I enjoy eating fuel for my body with minimal filler
-I have energy and stamina to deal with all the facets of my life
-I feel younger than I did ten years ago

~ Read your list and read it often, especially at times when your self-esteem droops. Remind yourself that all of these phrases are true, regardless of whether or not you feel that way.

i have been thinking about this the last 2 days and find this emotionally difficult to do.

why is that?

i was thinking, I find it easy to recognize, encourage, compliment and nurture positive qualities in others.

i was taught not to "toot my own horn" per se, and in myself, am usually focused on "correcting my flaws" ~ to do that, means finding what is wrong with me...

although self-correction, living, learning is a necessary part of progress, it is good to the extent it is helpful... but beyond that, I took it to harmful....

I remember when a friend described it as emotional self-mutilation. I call it beating myself with wet noodles... or yelling at me for my "failures" "flaws" etc....

So this is an interesting exercise.... I have to look past my first thoughts of all the things I did wrong... there were positives... i did do many things well, succeed at things, learn and gain skills... I may not have succeeded at everything... so I guess that means I have more to tackle...

I think I'll take sometime to ponder this further... there is no shame in recognizing our positives, eh?

Remember when? Remember the good old days? Have there been times in your life when you were in sync and on a roll? The book lists a few things to ponder, but please remember this is about you, where you've been, where you're headed, so tailor your list to you, and please share your thoughts here :)


How do you act when you're living and performing at your best? When life is going great, what kinds of things are in place for you? What gives you energy or makes you happy?

Remember the days when you felt confident, strong, capable, and able to face challenges head-on. Even if it's been years ago, think of times when you were truly at your best in many areas of your life, including physically as well as mentally and emotionally. Recall any times in the past when you were at a healthy weight or were exercising regularly.

We never really lose our characteristics from the past. But as the years go by, we tend to lose sight of our strengths and our gifts. Sometimes we see only the parts of ourselves that we don't like. To bring back the qualities and concepts you've lost, remind yourself that you still value them. Then intentionally put them into your life again.

Today, you'll build a list of words and phrases that descrbe what you are really like when you're at your absolute best. As you create your list, think of your best personality traits as well as your skills. Remember that all of these beautiful words remain true even on days when you don't feel like them.

What follows is an "at my best" list from Rita, a weight-loss client. She said, "Whenever I start feeling down about myself, I review my list. Then I try to live exactly like those descriptive phrases. It always pulls me back out of the dumps, and helps me avoid using food to cheer myself up."
