Day 17 Do I really care? yes! Be patience when the scale is stuck

Every morning, I check my weight and record. After healthy meals I allow 20 minutes to feel full --- deep breaths and drink water to resist cravings.
Activities: walking, cleaning, cardio and ST routines.
emoticon Creating a self-care routine takes time and tenacity.

I really care. I'm encouraging my hubby to do the same about his health. His 'at work' eating isn't good at present.
There are some inspiring posts on this thread. :)

Day 17 - Do I Really Care

I looked for the stickers I put up on the last round, the ones on the bathroom mirrors are still there, I got a new stove between last time and this time, so put a new one there, I couldn't find the one I put on the refrigerator, so I put one there too. I do have episodes of savagely feeling I really don't care, this chronic mindfulness is wearing. From last round to this one, I have been encouraged by seeing the stickers and knowing that I really do care, I just get weary sometimes of the effort it takes to not gain weight. So much mental processing, I would like to have better default good habits, but at the end of the day, I feel better when I make the effort to follow my plan than if I slide off of it.

That is a scary story you shared Gill about your work mates who eat so unhealthfully. They claim to be happier and to have accepted and are happy with their look, I wonder though. Some of this journey to manage our weight is about look for sure, but ultimately, it is about our health.

One of the Wednesday weekly temptations are when I volunteer at the teen homeless shelter, there is a cafe that makes their own baking and it is off the charts delicious and they donate their day-old stuff to the shelter, and it is still off the charts delicious. The other two volunteers at the end of the day were dipping into what was left, and offered me some. Sometimes I do have some (and regret it later), but today I didn't want to. I felt like I was judging them when I turned down taking some because they are both overweight. Probably that was just my mind playing games with me to get me to take some, I'm sure they didn't feel judged, and there I was judging them and having an internal conflict about whether to have a pastry.

Regarding my peanut butter craving, it is gone now but was hovering for 3 days. Phyllis, it is interesting how some of our own temptations leave others indifferent.

Yes! Today that means my meals are planned, I have weighed myself, I am back to drinking 8 glasses of water daily and today there will be no sweets, no seconds, and no snacks.

• Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today. Then eat your healthy meals, take your walk and use positive self-talk to prove that you care.
I care enough to eat right today, limiting portions, and to drink at least 64 oz of water and to exercise today when I get off work.

Today I got home from work really, really tired. And there's the big, noisy groundworks machine outside my window again - it's SO noisy. I've put earplugs in, but can still hear it. I don't have much success with earplugs!

I looked at my To Do list and it said '10 am Morrab' which is my volunteer banking job; then 11 am 'swim'............... so I adjusted this so that I do the swim at 12, and do the banking after lunch. Then I remembered I also have evening class this evening - so no early night for me! I've promised to go to this, so can't not go. So, I've scheduled a quiet guided relaxation session for myself this afternoon - after the banking etc.

Linda writes "Even if you're tired ........... remind yourself you DO care."

So, that's what I'm doing!

DAY #17 DO I REALLY CARE?

Absolutely! ! ! Even through my struggles. I can't remember that last time I said "I don't care". And, as Linda points out, not sticking with your diet is usually a sign that something else requires your attention. We just have to figure out what the things are that are draining our attention and demanding our focus at the time and then come up with a plan to manage things better.

I DO CARE and that is why I have really challenged myself for the end of this month. I have made sure that I am sticking with my No S guidelines even on the "S" days. I have stuck to my fitness schedule and even explored new fitness classes. Blogging about the success of my Challenge day has helped me remain positive.

This streak has me feeling great and I am going to keep it going into February because I DO CARE!

Day 17 - Do I really care?

After my Saturday afternoon binge, on Sunday I pulled it together to really care, and my days have shown that I care on Sunday, Monday and now Tuesday. I care by journalling my food to keep within the guidelines of eating to lose weight. I care by making sure I drink 8 glasses of water a day. I cared last night by only eating 1/2 of the meat portion at a restaurant for dinner. I care by tracking my weight, exercise and calories on the dot calendar. I care by having my vision board in my bathroom so I can see the goals I'm hoping to get to. I care by planning ahead for splurges like popcorn at the movies.

Day #17....Do I really care?

This question has been an ongoing question all through my adult life. One day, yes, I really do care but the next day that donut looks really good so, for that day, no I really don't care because I want what I want.
But all of that changed on January 13th after my husbands heart attack. (He is doing fine now) . The way it all changed for me is now He and by that I mean we are on a cardiac diet. I cook different, we eat different, not that we ate so bad before but a lot of changes have taken place in the last 2 weeks.
So yes, I really do care....We have to care!!

WAKE UP HAPPY, SPREAD THAT HAPPINESS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR WORLD......ME

I definitely Really Care.

I didn't care 'enough' years ago and all that did was effect my health, my emotional well being, my whole life! I do care enough. I care enough -

1. To journal daily
2. To plan meals
3. To prepare veggies and fruits each week for snacks
4. To exercise as much as I can to become more flexible
5. To set a good example for my grandchildren
6. To avoid health problems
7. For MYSELF!

Day 17 - Do I really care?

In general, of course I really do care.
Today, specifically, I really do care.
Am I willing to commit to caring?
Yes, generally, I eat so much better than I did 8 years ago.
Today, I commit to eating in a way that is better for my body, mind, and for weightloss.
Admittingly, I do very much care how I look in my clothes and how I feel in my skin.
And I do want strength and agility as I get older.

Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today. Then eat your healthy meals, take your walk and use positive self-talk to prove that you care.
-frig is loaded with healthy options for the day
-AquaFit this morning
-eat two large meals in a timely manner
- drink plenty of water
Positive self talk, giving myself credit...
I am doing this! I am good at this weight management thing! I may be up a few pounds today, but I’m still down 60lbs from 8 1/2 yrs ago. I want to wear cute clothes to this weekend’s outing with confidence. I am committed to myself!

A decision made about how much to weigh is a decision made on how to live. (KANOE) I have decided.

Day 17: Do I really care?
How many times I begin the day with “I really do want this” only to end the day trying to decide what’s for dinner?

The message in this lesson for me is to always look ahead, plan
my days and then stick to the plan.

I really do care because my plan affects my health, my plan affects my energy levels and my plan affects my numbers at the Doctor. This in turn affects whether I stay off medications.

Day 17 - Do I Really Care?

- Make a sign that says, “I do care.” Done

- Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today.

I will:
Stick to my meal plan.
Track my food.
Stick to my exercise plan.
Get caught up with 100MDWL.

I have used the red, yellow, green dots on my calendar for the month of March. It was enlightening. I have mostly yellow days with a scattering of green and red. No wonder I am not losing weight. I am maintaining. I walk around believing I care but I get distracted and exhausted and then give in to the temptation to skip exercise or grab a snack. Exercise first thing is something that worked for me in the past. Time to go back to exercising first thing in the morning before the day distracts me from my plan.

I keep a calendar on the wall of my bathroom to record my weight each morning. Then I mark in a green or red circle on the previous day as an indicator of whether I was "good" or "bad". I was doing the color dots the night of, except sometimes I'd go right in and have a "little snack" after coloring my dot green, so I thought it was safer to wait for the following morning. emoticon emoticon

Looking at this month's calendar is such a perfect illustration of plucking the petals from the daisy. Green, red, green, red, green, red, green......I care, I don't care, then I care again and then maybe not as much and on and on. But....

I DO care!

It does help to write my intentions in the morning and set my intention for the day. It's not always foolproof - but it does help.

Yes I care.....my sister in law left today after visiting for a week. She loves to cook and eat so I have been “off track”.
Gill you are so right about not feeling well when you don’t eat well and get enough exercise.
But I am back and it’s good to return to my regular schedule.

emoticon DAY #17 emoticon

Day 17 - Do I really care?

Each morning, ask yourself, “Is this a day when I care or one when I don’t care?” Once you label it as a day that you care, live that way all day.

Today

• Make a sign that says, “I do care.” Post it where you can see it easily or carry it inside your pocket or purse.
I put it on my refrigerator.

• Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today. Then eat your healthy meals, take your walk and use positive self-talk to prove that you care.

Today I care about myself and I am starting my day by eating a big breakfast like a king, a smaller lunch like a prince, and the pauper gets a healthy salad with some protein for dinner.

Today will be busy outdoor work for me because I need to pick up all the fallen branches in the grass since the yard men start mowing the grass soon. It is about a 3-hour job so I will be tired when I finish. I love working outside and it is a beautiful, sunny, little windy, and a little cool March day. Lots of natural Vitamin D today!

I added more dog walking back into my schedule. I slacked off over winter for different reasons. But now that the weather is nice and health is good, today is day 1 of 2 daily dog walks that add 1 hour to my daily exercise. No treadmill for me today since I did all that outside yard work.

Continued work on writing my positive affirmations to read to stop those sudden cravings that try to get me in the kitchen to eat, especially in the evening. I still like thinking about using the 7 minute idea to try and curb the sudden cravings for food. For me, that might be the most important thing I have learned so far and I can apply it to my biggest problem area - night time eating.

• At the end of the day, notice the difference in your actions. Record this in the space below.

I love this feeling of thinking about “I do care”. So many times we live our lives on auto-pilot and just follow our daily routine and work. It feels extra self-nurturing for me to think about myself and that I care about myself. All of my life has been thinking about others and taking care of them.

Here are some thoughts I read somewhere...

“You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.”

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live in.”

Most often when I go on a slide off my plans, the loudest voice I hear inside my head is " I don't care, I want to do what I want" This is an interesting proactive step to ward off the "I don't care" tsumani that engulfs me after a period of build up which is the time I am sticking to my plan. I will put a sign on the fridge and on the mirrors in the bathroom. I probably wouldn't do this if DH wasn't away, it feels silly, and I don't want a comment from him. But as he's away, I will play the 100 DWL game to the letter.

• Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today. Then eat your healthy meals, take your walk and use positive self-talk to prove that you care.

I think I am a caring person in general, I care about not hurting other people, about helping them if I can. Most of the time I take good care of myself too, but sometimes I just don't care. I want to feel more than restraint and moderation, that seems so repressed. I want to feel more like a poet than a plodder. I have a great day planned for today, meal plan, exercise plan and to-do list all keeping me busy and feeling productive and positive and caring.

• At the end of the day, notice the difference in your actions. Record this in the space below.

TTYL , at the end of the day
Report - I did fine, this is a tool I need when I feel the motivation to stick to the plan slipping.

I posted right off the sparkmail link and then read others' posts later. Yesterday I hadn't planned my menu the day before so I couldn't do the exercise of waiting 7 minutes when I want to eat something that isn't on my plan. Last night I did plan for today.

First thing in the morning - hot water with lemon and a dusting of cayenne pepper
Breakfast - hot cereal, golden milk, rooibos tea, walnuts
Lunch - Chicken, mixed vegetables (beans, peas, carrots, corn), blackberries, green tea, dark chocolate
Supper - kombucha, brown rice with lentils, a few slices of left-over roast, kale salad with dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds

Day 17 is another that gets a sticky tab in my book. I recognize this question from the mental acrobatics I go through when I am tempted to go off my plan. Sadly, my response is usually negative even though deep down inside I care very much. Reminders, such as Linda suggests, going up now!

DAY #17 DO I REALLY CARE? - ROUND 2

YES I DO! ! ! I DO CARE!

I even wrote it in big, bold letters in the margins of the page. I feel that the fact that it is almost 3/31 and I am still focus more than I have been in some years is a good indicator of how much I care. In the past I would have "not cared" on many occasions and that is why I have not lost any weight in 6 years. No more of that monkey business for me!

I have my healthy menu filled out for today (along with some ideas for the rest of the week):

Breakfast was Yogurt with Papaya BECAUSE I CARE!
Lunch will be Hummus with fresh veggies BECAUSE I CARE!
Dinner will be Marinara Meat Sauce with Spaghetti Squash BECAUSE I CARE!

My fitness plan for today is 30 minutes Elliptical at the Y this afternoon.

I have grocery shopping on my list of things to do today also and the morning is almost over emoticon . If I find myself feeling discouraged or overwhelmed, I will give myself a pep-talk of positivity to remind me that I DO CARE!

Day 17 Do I really care?

Each morning, ask yourself, “Is this a day when I care or one when I don’t care?” Once you label it as a day that you care, live that way all day.

Today

Yes, I care today. I am drinking my water. I have dropped out of WW at work, which doesn't adapt well to my mostly plant based diet. I am adding more protein to my diet to offset the fruit-o-mania suggested by "free points for fruit". This activated my sugar sensitivity and threw me off balance, making me chronically hungry. Making me eat more and more out of control.

I stopped matching my husband's daily snacks and cut back. I am slapping the cookie back into its place: AWAY FROM ME.

It may be an old, rusted dinghy, but I am in charge of this ship.

Yes I really do care! emoticon
I will admit I’ve been through a few weeks of “poor me” and although I care about my health, I don’t always care enough. It really is like those daisy petals, I care one day, I don’t care the next! Or sometimes I care at breakfast but then not the rest of the day.
emoticon This week I used the weekly planner on StartYourDiet to plan my menus.
emoticon Yesterday was a good day, planned, and carried out the plan.
Today I was tempted to ignore my pre-planned tracker because my best friend wants to meet for lunch. There is always a way, choose the restaurant with a menu of healthy options, order from that menu and enjoy the great conversation more than thinking of food as the reason for being there.

Breakfast, I will eat the cereal, almond milk and apple already listed on my tracker.
Lunch, I’ll order from the “fit fare” menu at Dennys restaurant.
Dinner, I’ll have the tilapia that is good for me!

Yep, today, I care.

I'm off to work with all three meals packed.

Breakfast is a protein shake - I'd much rather not care and have toast and marmalade - but I won't, because I do care.

Lunch is gluten-free nutroast and pickle sandwiches, cherry tomatoes. - I'd much rather have a crusty bread roll with creamy mayo added to the nutroast - but I won't because I do care.

'Dinner' is an instant soup, some seeded oatcakes, a few dates - I'd much rather have a pile of pasta with cheesy sauce - but I won't because I do care.

I do care - and I make my choices accordingly.

Day 17 -- Do I Really Care?

• Make a sign that says, “I do care.” Post it where you can see it easily or carry it inside your pocket or purse.
Added the words "I Care" to the front of my journal.

• Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today. Then eat your healthy meals, take your walk and use positive self-talk to prove that you care.

Purchased bananas and eggs so I'd be ready for breakfast.
Ate leftovers rather than go out to eat.
Used a measuring cup for accurate portions.
Put my food in the tracker.
Walked up steps at the stadium.
Reminded myself that one pound a week is my goal so be proud of losing one pound.

• At the end of the day, notice the difference in your actions. Record this in the space below.

I didn't let others deter me from my healthy eating.
It was a no sweets day and I stayed within my calorie range.
It's Monday and I didn't need to "start over" today. I feel good about that.
I Care.

Day #17 Do I Really Care?

I love my flower gardens! Ha, Ha, Ha. That means I have played the Flower Petal Game plenty of times! ! ! As a matter of fact I got a laugh when Linda talked about how our I DON'T CARE attitude can add up for weeks or even months. HOW ABOUT YEARS! I said to myself (because there was no one else around to hear me). Yes. I confess. I have been at the same weight for the past 4 1/2 years because I play this game so much despite my resolve at the beginning of every year to MAKE THIS THE ONE!

Linda suggests that it isn't really that I don't care, but that something is affecting me and I need to figure out what that something is. Well, this is the part that I balk at because there most certainly many people who lives that are more stressful than mine. I have much to be thankful for and I don't like to sound like a whiner. BUT(here I go) -

This losing weight it hard! I want to eat & drink what I what to eat and drink just like everyone else around me! There I left the child ego out of the box! My statement is totally true though because I feel like I already sacrifice a lot of foods that I would like to eat and drinks I would like to have. The weekends are darn tough! As are many social events that revolve around everyone eating and drinking.

The second part is my schedule. Yes. I know I am the one who controls my schedule, but I am not good at saying NO. I have this thing in my head that is always telling me how disappointed people will be in me if I say NO or heaven only knows I may miss out on some fun if I say NO.

I have been working on putting BALANCE into my life for the past 1 1/2 years. It is a slow process, but I think it is paramount to my over-all well being and worth the effort. I just need to be patient. Keep working the life lessons I encounter. Everything will fall into place in time.

Meanwhile, I can add this mantra to my daily routine:

I CARE! I DON'T CARE! I CARE! I DON'T CARE! I CARE! Yup. I CARE!

I read today's lesson last night before bed, so I was able to tell myself this morning that I really do care. emoticon

I know what Maria means when she says that sometimes she finds her care "waning" as the day goes on.... emoticon I've certainly been there!

I've been putting a sticker on my ASPCA calendar for every day I've been in nutritional range and have not had any alcohol. Wow! today is 63 consecutive days that I have achieved both goals! The calendar is on the side of the fridge that is visible when I walk into the kitchen. That is my way of reminding myself that I care. I use it for nothing else but the stickers. My "real" calendar that both DH and I use is on the hidden side of the fridge where I've also got a mini desk set up. I found some neat stickers at the dollar store for this month all about little animals camping out. It's fun every evening to decide which I'm putting on next. I know -- I'm easily pleased. So far I've got the camper, a tent, a little raccoon and a little bunny.

We're not doing anything today for the 4th, but tomorrow is a day-trip that will involve going to a water-park, then the whole group going to a burger place (Hat Creek in Round Rock) that has a playground the kids like. I'm not a burger person -- but I think the place has some salads. It's kind of a trendy place with fermented foods, etc. A classy burger place? Just looked and I see they have a spinach strawberry salad. So I'm planning ahead, because I DO care. Also heading over to check out if there are any Y classes I want to do before we leave because I DO care about getting my exercise.

Do I really care? Absolutely I care. I usually start the day caring a lot and then as the day goes on I can find my care waning. I recognize many reasons such as: Physically tired, "resistance muscle" has worn down, boredom, looking for entertainment followed by only fooling myself types of thoughts and excuses.

Ways that I care daily: I will Never give up. I will keep learning, tweaking, trying, managing and finding new ways to care.

I journaled a list of what I work on daily: Various exercise, dot calendar, cook veggie laden meals, participate in studies like this emoticon one and challenges that inspire and help to keep me motivated.

Right now I most certainly do care. I made a commitment to follow my healthy eating and exercise program in conjunction with this 100 days. So far I've lost 7 pounds in 17 days. I'm happy with that. I'm happy I was able to stay within the calorie range of my plan while in Chicago, and I'm very happy to have read Gil's blog the other day about reading being away to chase away sugar cravings.

I am learning a LOT in this new book.

My meals have been on plan and I am seeing that some of these lessons I need to read the day before and report back, as in today's lesson. It's all good!

100 More DWL , Day 17 Do I really care?

Each morning, ask yourself, “Is this a day when I care or one when I don’t care?” Once you label it as a day that you care, live that way all day.

Today

• Make a sign that says, “I do care.” Post it where you can see it easily or carry it inside your pocket or purse.
• Write down ways you will demonstrate that you care today. Then eat your healthy meals, take your walk and use positive self-talk to prove that you care.
• At the end of the day, notice the difference in your actions. Record this in the space below.

My sign now says: "I do care!"

I haven't had the occasion to use it yet so it hasn't made a difference in my actions, except for doing my two sets of Pilates 100's. Then I add: "ABSolutely, I do care!".

Joy is a Choice. Choose joy moment by moment.

Yes, I do care - but do I care enough, and do I care ALL THE TIME? What is going on when I don't care? Tired? Angry? Fed up? Bored? Lonely? Drunk? Hungry? Sad? Jealous? Afraid?

I will make today a day when I DO care ALL THE TIME - because I want to achieve my goal of being healthy, happy, supple, strong, slender and fit!
