Day 19 Hope—the secret word

Even when it seems like you'll never reach your goals, hope will move you forward and sustain your efforts day after day.

I truly believe this!

How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all?
I feel I have the hope and the inner strength to reach my goals.

Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.
Too painful to relate but I had two choices - move forward or sink and let others 'win'.
What I learned about myself from this experience has given me the strength and hope that I can tackle other adversity, including dealing with the current damage to my spine.

Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.
Read my mantras and start each day afresh with an open heart.

100 More DWL Day 19 - Hope - the secret word

1. How hopeful do you feel right now?

I have been working on a light eating plan this week and on Thursday was still feeling very positive. My gut had been playing up so that wasn't comfortable but overall very hopeful and positive. I have been more positive and hopeful that I can stay on my eating plan and maintain my weight +/-3lbs

2. Describe recent times when you've lost hope, including what caused this to happen.

I found it difficult to get back to my eating plan after Christmas and in January got a little demotivated and not hopeful.

3. Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.

I went to my Aqua class and really enjoyed it and after shopping made plans for next Monday when I have no car and so will need a lift home so following Chloe's suggestion went to see a pal, had a lovely chat with her and asked if she would pick me up on Monday.

DAY #19 HOPE - THE SECRET WORD

Do I feel hopeless? No I Do Not! Even though I sometimes voice the same sentiments from today's lesson: "I've been at this for so long. I can't seem to get anywhere. Something happens and my motivation goes away."

Today:

- Hope hopeful do you feel right now?

Apparently the top predictor of success is having HOPE! In that case I know I will not fail. I feel very hopeful.

- Describe recent times when you've lost hope.

Mid-January had some very bumpy roads that caused me to doubt my ability to succeed and made me feel a bit hopeless. There were so many social events with highly tempting foods & drinks.

- What 1 step can you take to build a sense of hope and optimism?

I am going to print our Linda's DOT calendar for February and make a new Vision Board. These things can show me how successful I am even on days when I might not feel it.

The central virtues, according to Corinthians 13, are hope, faith and charity/love.

For sure life unfolds with better outcomes when we are positive. When we are moving towards goals and are sharing and giving.

Day 19 Hope - the Secret Word

I never lose hope. I can't imagine being without it. That would be a black day.

I do realize though that I need to put effort behind my hope. I can't let my hope just become wishful thinking. There is no magic that will achieve my goals but hope leads to belief, and belief in myself leads to action. I CAN!

Right now I feel as I usually do....hopeful, but with a grain of salt...lol. I'm hopeful that someday I will get to a point where I'm not always having to monitor what I'm eating as much as I do now. The grain of salt is that I feel like I'll probably always be on a calorie restriction mentality in order to maintain the weight I've lost. And...maybe that's not so bad. I feel good where I am now, but losing 5 lbs would be even better. That's where I've been for quite some time. I'm afraid, though, that if I allow myself to start thinking that where I am now is where I want to maintain, then I'll gain a few. It's a mind game, and probably I'm not expressing it very well.

Recently I've not had trouble losing hope concerning my weight...although I remember many times in my past when I did. My "hope struggles" now-days have more to do with family situations...one of which is that I want my two sons (in their 30's) to get on with settling down, getting married and giving me some grandchildren.... emoticon That's not that much to ask, right?

emoticon The step I can take to build hope and optimism is to get on with my daily routine, do the best I can do, continue to use Sparkpeople's many features, put one foot in front of the other, and fight my natural tendency to be lazy and procrastinate.

Day 19 - Hope - the secret word
1. How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all? Write it down.

I have great hope. I'm on the slow and steady track, sometimes not on it, but I've lost 28 pounds in 10 months. A very, very slow rate of loss, but I haven't given up.

2. Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.

I was craving something, went out and bought it, and ate it. It made me fearful that I would be off track and not get back on; but I was very much on track the very next day.

3. Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.
Losing weight is not a race. There's not a deadline. The popular thinking of losing X number of pounds in X amount of time does not work for me. So, I reflect on what I have done, not how much time it took. I wear my crystal Mickey Mouse earrings every day to remind me that I lost 10 pounds; it symbolizes that I can lose weight.

A little.

Not sure how it was lost, just eroded over time. To many let downs on the scale.

I'm generally optimistic. I've been struggling a bit lately with maintenance, but I do think I can be successful.

• Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.
Funny - my answer is the same this time as last and I came up with it before reading my previous post. Usually what makes me give up hope is worries about my sons -- I get the feeling that "what does it all really matter anyway in the long run?" I start feeling that nobody really cares what my weight is -- then I remind myself that one very important person DOES care!

Day 19, Hope-The Secret Word

Hope - how miserable would life be without hope!
I tend to be optimistic and hope is part of that. In general I always think that things can be better and that I can be a factor in determining my own happiness, success, and quality of life.

Lately I have had occasionally days when I've forgotten to hope. I guess that happens to everyone.

It isn't like JUST hoping will make something happen but having hope seems to give me the strength and determination to make good things happen. Obviously I can't "hope" to lose weight and have it happen but I can learn to make healthy decisions; create a plan; and go forward with hope that my plan will succeed.

2. Describe recent times when you've lost hope, including what caused this to happen.

Nor sure why this lost hope happened today think its my hormones or am I making excuses

3. Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.

Decided to go for a walk with my hubby, reviewed my job list and do some items which made me feel more positive with hope and optimism! emoticon

I always feel hopeful when I am doing a new weight management challenge that I find compatible with my journey, like this one (and the Beck Trek and the 5% challenge). As this one is new to me, it is interesting and engaging and I am learning new things so I am feeling a lot of hope and confidence in my weigh management actions and how I am meeting my goals.

• Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.

I have lost hope when I have reached goal fitness and then gotten slack and lost it. I wonder why it is so hard to stay where I want to be, when I am successful at working to get there. Right now I am not thinking about the failures, I am enjoying the 100 DWL exercises that are supporting my goals as I move toward optimum fitness again.

• Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.

I am trying to live in today and do my best every day, one day at a time.

Day 19 - Hope - The Secret Word

Even when it seems like you'll never reach your goals, hope will move you forward and sustain your efforts day after day.

Yes, I have HOPE! It’s springtime “The Season of Hope”. The weather is beautiful, the sun is warm and shining, flowers are blooming, and birds are singing. The earth is coming back to abundant life after a cold and freezing winter. I remember last winter on cold snowy days, looking at the flower and seed catalogs and thinking about spring coming and what I would plant. There is always hope when you plant a seed in the soil. You will watch it grow and care for it during its life. It’s a real miracle.

One of the phrases I live by is to “Prepare for the worst, HOPE for the best, and then take what comes”. I try to keep my optimistic perspective on life and the troubles that come my way.

Faith and hope have carried me through many life problems. My health problems I’ve been dealing with are slowly getting better and that keeps me hopeful for a full recovery. Since I’ve been caring for my Son’s little diabetic dog since December, there have been many problems and it has been difficult. But, the little fella is now on a healthy upswing curve and I’m getting more hopeful he will be ready to return to his home soon. His family really miss him.

I hope you have hope in your life!

More hopeful than recently. Was dealing with some depression, but seem to be coming out of it now. I feel like I was able to direct myself in a positive way and this is very reassuring.

2. Describe recent times when you've lost hope, including what caused this to happen.

When I stopped doing my physical therapy exercises, the back pain started to return. I hated when I was constantly in pain and feared going back there. Falling down into a hole again. Once I started in again, though, the pain is starting to lift.

When that WW at work was affecting my food choices and not in a good way. Ditched that program and back to my vegan/nutrition-oriented approach. I took charge.

3. Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.

Keep on organizing my messes around me, and GIVE MYSELF CREDIT for all the effort I've been putting in to change my diet and mood around.

DAY #19 HOPE : THE SECRET WORD - ROUND 2

I have to say that I am feeling full of hope right now!

There have been plenty of times when I felt exactly how Ellen felt in today's lesson - "I've been working on my weight for so long and I can't seem to get anywhere. I don't think I will ever reach my goal". And I know the reason I have felt so discouraged. I haven't been putting in the work that is required for success. Plain and simple! Until now.

I discovered Bright Line Eating and the scientific explanations of how sugar, flour, and willpower are affected in our brains really gave me a lightbulb moment. I believe I have finally found the healthy eating plan that will help me shed the extra pounds I have been holding on to for that past 5-6 years now. This gives me HOPE.

I also recently discovered that I can go on vacation and manage to maintain some semblance of healthy living at the same time. No total deprivation. No big loss to report, but my weight is stable instead of the 10# gains I have had in the past and I'll take that as a victory! This give me HOPE.

Linda gives some good things that HOPE can do for us, but I have to say that the support and inspiration that I get from my Spark Friends in priceless and I don't think I could have as much HOPE without all of you.

Day 18 Hope—the secret word
Today I feel hopeful, it’s been a good week so far.
I did lose hope recently when I had problems with my feet. It is so easy to let negative thinking take over.
As I look back on it, I need to remember that I may need to slow down because of things I can’t control but that is not a reason to give up.
Today I can turn off the TV, finish cleaning out the closet, and get outside in the spring weather!

Day 19 - The Secret Word

• How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all? Write it down.

I'm very hopeful. I've been making some really good choices. I haven't let other people deter me from my healthy goals.

• Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.

Discouraged by scale.
Let a slip turn into a slide.
Used "Eat everything you want now so you can begin a diet on Monday" thinking.
Stress eating.

• Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.

Make a plan and stick to it. Today will be a shopping excursion with girlfriends. We'll be eating out and I don't know where. I will make the healthiest choice possible. There is no Plan C. When I keep my goals in mind, I keep hope alive.

• How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all? Write it down.
Right now I'd say some... my weight is bouncing around up a few down a few for many days now and it's bumming me out. It's fluid retention, I know, but it still looks awful on the scales and brings me down.
• Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.
No progress on the scales, inconsistency in diet and exercise.
• Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.
Find some inspiring quotes, positive self talk in the mirror, in my journals, and in my planner, remind myself daily, hourly how far I've come and to not give up. I know what giving up looks and feels like, I want to see what reaching goal looks and feels like.

I have hope. I've lost it numerous times, but I have (fortunately) always decided to push on and have faith/hope in myself.

I am facing each day as it comes and I am planning ahead, preparing. For me that's where it's at - planning and being prepared.

I have a strong faith too, as many of you have stated. That's definitely where the faith/hope comes from.

Day 19 Hope—the secret word

• How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all? Write it down.

I'm generally hopeful in most situations. This time around (in my weight issue) I'm hopeful I can keep these last 10 pounds off that I seem to have yo-yo'd with for so long. I'm hopeful I can continue to manage my health without having to begin any medications.

• Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.
Things out of my control mainly...stuff with my sons and their choices.

• Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.
Research natural ways to lower my LDL cholesterol which was a bit higher in recent bloodwork. HDL great so I'm hopeful about that!

I lost hope long, long ago in my life when I "disconnected" from the faith I was raised in. Losing hope and a spiritual connection leads to a really messy life! Thankfully God did not lose me! Always there ... waiting till I was ready. Last year I started making steps towards reconciliation with God ... this year my focus has been on a closer relationship. I can happily say I now have HOPE! I'm growing stronger in so many ways/areas of my life ... health, relationships (especially with myself!), my spiritual life, and yes, weight loss and all that entails/means in regard to changing my lifestyle/habits. Is it easy to do that? No! If it was I wouldn't be here. But I have hope by utilizing resources available - like this book and spark friend support/understanding - and the strength my spiritual life now gives me. I will continue growing/improving and achieve many, many changes and meet many goals! I have learned what a powerful thing Hope is … I never say never but I sure do not want to ever go through life again without it!

Day #19 HOPE - The Secret Word

My thoughts and prayers go to those of you who are facing such tough challenges.
After so many years of unsuccessful attempts at weight loss/maintenance I have hope that:
I will remember that "nothing is impossible with God", I won't ever revert back to my bad habits, I will "accept the solution" (from Linda's first 100 Days) and continue to make this healthy lifestyle my job, and most importantly that I will continue to GET UP that 8th time when I will inevitably fall short. emoticon emoticon

I,can relate to what everyone else wrote I am way overwhelmed and overstretched. Hopeless is too defeating so I won’t go there. As long as there’s hope there is God and this too shall pass and another hurdle I made over. Sandwich generation with mil in hospice, her sisters funeral today, my parents needs and to do list with the 40 acre landscaped pond and three huge upcoming parties, my mentally impaired daughters issues, appointments, and now upcoming surgery I keep telling myself I have to do this for me don’t give up keep the hope.

Hope usually fades after my patience runs out. I tend to be impatient with things when I feel like I have no control.

To maintain hope, I need to focus on something I know I can control, like, tracking my foods, or uncluttering an area of my home, no matter how small. The feeling of satisfaction in completing this task enables me to take on the next larger one, and the next.

This week has been an exercise in patience and hope. I have dealt with two days of a gas leak, which is now fixed and the huge holes dug in my yard are filled back in, my brake light going out on my car (repaired), my check engine light coming on (due to the high heat, reset, no repair needed) and what we thought may be a problem with air conditioning in our home due to puddles of water on the floor in front of it. That one turned out to be a gallon jug of water on the pantry shelf that had sprung a pin hole leak in the bottom.

During my caregiving days I often reminded myself God wouldn't give me anything that I couldn't handle with his help, although there were days I wished he didn't trust me so much. I am strong, I can get through most things, no matter how unpleasant.

I'm a survivor, not a victim.

Hold On Pain Ends.....HOPE!

Day #19 HOPE - The Secret Word

"Let go of the past and remind yourself that now you are in a different place with new tools that will propel you forward. Listen to your hope voice often and train it to give you words of love and encouragement every single day! "

HOPE fuels your "Yes I Can" belief
HOPE pushes you to "Fall down 7 times, get back up 8"
HOPE fuels you to take the next step forward

I have lost hope for losing these last pounds several times. Too many times to count. I lose 8#. I gain 8#. I lose 8#. I gain 8#. The result is that I am still at the same weight that I have been at for the past several years as I have mentioned before.

Linda tells us in today's lesson that the TOP PREDICTOR of success is HOPE and that the most common cause of weight regain is sliding into discouragement. Yes. I agree. I get discouraged. The question that came to my is "WHY?" Because to give up the things we love is hard!

When I am facing a temptation my emoticon causes me to lose hope. He starts screaming in my head and won't stop screaming until I finally say "Enough Already!" and give in to the temptation just so I can shut him up.

My mantra: DON'T GIVE IN, GET UP AND WALK AWAY!

Day 19: Hope-the secret word-July 6, 2018
Research shows that one of the most common causes of regaining weight is sliding into discouragement. When this happens, you lose motivation, and eventually you lose hope that you'll ever be successful.
Even when it seems like you'll never reach your goals, hope will move you forward and sustain your efforts day after day. Here are three things hope can do for you:
1. Hope releases you from your past. Instead of assuming you'll repeat the lose/regain pattern, hope fuels a belief that you can be successful with your goals.
2. Hope motivates you to keep going in spite of tough times. It helps you bounce back after a day of overeating or skipping exercise. It's what pushes you to get back up instead of giving up.
3. Hope activates you. It becomes the fuel that keeps you going, even when the odds are against you. Hope encourages you to take steps toward your goals every day, even when it feels impossible to reach them.
Today
How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all? Write it down.
I would say in the middle to a lot
Describe recent times when you've lost hope, including what caused this to happen. Been on several diet plans over the years believe this time is due to stress and not wanting to give up certain foods
Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism. I did it and can succeed and get back where I want to be- maybe even getting a new goal slip to get the stress off and then get back to basics

I am blessed to have a faith which helps me restore hope when I feel discouraged.

I do think, when the walls feel like they are falling down around us, a spiritual practice is so valuable.

Practical things like healthy routines help me to keep moving even when I feel depressed or defeated. Move, eat, rest, relax, repeat - that kind of thing.

Also, reading today's lesson, I felt that, in terms of my eating habits, determination and acceptance are also part of the 'hope' factor. I know that I have to keep paying attention to what I eat for the rest of my life.

Yes, where there's life, there's hope!

100 More DWL , Day 19 Hope—the secret word

Even when it seems like you'll never reach your goals, hope will move you forward and sustain your efforts day after day.

Today

• How hopeful do you feel right now? A lot, some, a little or not at all? Write it down.
• Describe recent times when you’ve lost hope, including what caused this to happen.
• Identify one step you can take today to build a sense of hope and optimism.

Today was weigh-in day. I've removed another .25 of a pound. I was momentarily discouraged but at least it's moving the right direction. As quickly as I turned around negative thinking, I'm aware that the scale results can still influence my mood. So the act of weighing with a neglible result is what caused my hope to waiver.

When I saw my "before" photo for the 5% challenge last weekend, I had a setback. The road I'm traveling is a LONG one. Hope is the ONLY thing I can cling to when the going gets tough. Viewing my present condition caused my hope to quiver a bit.

I've dropped 600 calories a day for the aforementioned challenge and I've been hungry, hangry and cranky...a LOT. For the first time, I've felt deprived. I will, however, stay focused on short-term and long term goals. The short-term goal is the end of the challenge weigh in on August 25th. The long-term goal is the rest of my life and continuing to adapt a workable nutritional and exercise routine that satisfies my needs and enables me to move forward.

What steps can I take today to build a sense of hope and optimism? I'll look at inspirational photos I have stored in a folder on my desktop and I'll read motivational quotes I have stored in a folder as well. I'll write a blog about turning around negative thinking. I'll follow my designated food plan and do my exercise in spite of being challenged by a loss of internet connection on the laptop where I had planned to workout. Also being challenged by a loss of the volume on my ipad. I'll find the resolution for both and get them to work today so I can do my workout videos as planned.

I can't think of anyone who says they enjoy the 'hangrys'. I certainly don't. The feeling of deprivation was also a setback. I will overcome it and continue moving forward. I am a determined woman.

Day 19 Hope—secret to Busting Plateau
Great lesson - Hopeful and Heartfelt Message emoticon
Reminding myself that summers are hard for several reasons, I hope for strength in the Fall.
1) June 21, ~ 7 hours longer than December Solstice. More daylight to deal with cravings.
2) Cold or snowy days I can easily delay or avoid buying food. Getting home and staying warm is a priority. Hot water satisfies hunger.
More...I will post later on in 100 days
What I have learned about seasons and healthy eating.
