100 More DWL - Day 81 Problem or predicament

Predicament - being overweight and tempted by treat food of my kids or my MiL. I want to remain at my sustainable weight range and so go to Weigh In (WI) once every 4/5 weeks.

Action steps; Who buys these foods that tempt me? Me of course so don't buy them! If they are bought remind myself that they are not mine or at the least write them don't and stay accountable!

DAY #81 PROBLEM OR PREDICAMENT - ROUND 2

Stress related issues are divided into two major types: predicaments and problems.

A predicament is a stressful situation that won't change for a long time or maybe even never. All you can do is wait for time to pass and hope the predicament will improve or end.

So do I understand that when you have a number of related problems it leads to a predicament?
Either way you look at it the result is stress and feeling overwhelmed. We all know that when we feel overwhelmed it is time to break it down into smaller, more manageable steps.

I have actually been doing this for several months already, but recently lost my focus which brought the predicament of my time management to the forefront once again. Here is what I am going to do:

Predicament - Never enough time!

Action Plan - Prioritize commitments
Assign specific times to spend on each commitment
Stick to the time lines!

Day 81 - Problem or predicament

Instead of wasting energy or eating over situations that arenít going to change, learn to identify the problems inside a predicament. With each of those problems, take action in places where it will make a difference..

Today

ē Identify a couple of predicaments in your life that wonít change quickly.
Below each predicament, figure out a few specific problems.

ē Create action steps for each problem. Put some of them in place today.

Predicament #1:
Caring for my Sonís 12-year old diabetic dog with mobility problems requires hours every day and is very stressful.

Problem & action plan:
Need scheduled time for petís meals and insulin - For the last 6 months itís been a problem getting him to eat. Just a week ago I got him on a regular meal schedule where he will eat and he is even eating his diabetic dog food that helps level his glucose. Insulin injections are now getting regulated. This is an improvement and I hope it continues. Lancing his ear to get blood for glucose testing is still stressful for both of us.

Petís walking problems - made appointment with vet to discuss what to do since his walking is very slow and he does not want to walk at times.

Predicament #2:
Struggling to stay on track with my healthy lifestyle while dealing with petís health problems. My weight has been going upĒ 5-6 pounds as I live in stress with all its problems and complications and going ďdownĒ as I take corrective action to get back to my maintenance weight. Both nutrition and fitness have suffered and I am trying to regroup and get back on track. Hoping for better luck when next week gets here. Some stresses should be gone and a more peaceful home will return to me.

Today

ē Identify a couple of predicaments in your life that wonít change quickly.

- Reaching optimal fitness
- Reaching optimal goal weight
- Procrastination issues to be dealt with
- Sleep regimen to improve and settle into a habit
- Housekeeping routines to improve and settle into regular habit

Below each predicament, figure out a few specific problems.
ē Create action steps for each problem. Put some of them in place today.

-write out my fitness daily workouts - tomorrow

- eat mindfully and watch the extra bites and bits and continue with my intermittent fasting 7-11-7 routine with 2 main meals and no snacks except for recovery drinks after heavy workouts - every day

- write the thank you letters to the relatives that hosted me on my recent vacation, write the thank you letter to the high school where my niece graduated last year, file the trust tax return for my brother which is overdue, - do a little bit every day this week

- write out a sleep regimen - tomorrow

- I have company coming this weekend and need to tidy up the house and prepare the guest bedrooms, I am going to start doing this on Wednesday and my BFF is going to help me
After the extra preparations for guests, in 2 weeks, I want to write out a house keeping regimen

Predicament = more fat on my middle than I'd like

Another Sparker in the At Goal & Maintenance team recently pointed me to an article (Beck in origin) which talks about 'attainable' weight and 'sustainable' weight (I think those are the right words). It got me thinking.

My predicament is that my body seems to settle at about 8 stone 3lbs (115lbs) which, I know, is light, and I am in the middle of the healthy weight range for my height.

I can get lower if I cut out almost all carbs. But for me, that's not sustainable.

My problem is my fatty bits, round my middle.

My solution is to focus more on strength-training and weights - to alter my body-composition a little and see if i can replace some of the fat with muscle. If nothing else, I'll be stronger and more toned.

I too am getting older. I also tend to expect way too much of myself. I always have. I'm trying to be kinder to me because when I'm not I'm faced with predicaments!

My problems - well, arthritis in my knee but when I get to the gym and get in more water walking it helps tremendously. So 'no big deal!' - except to push myself to get there. I'm not flexible, but yoga stretches help with that.

I know myself so well!

Day 81 Problem or predicament
What are my predicaments?
I am getting older
*canít stop this one but I can eat nutritious food that keeps me as healthy as possible
*I can get back to a set exercise time and get moving.

I get overwhelmed by my big house
*maybe I can redo my favorite room and spend more time there
*daily I can just focus on one room at a time to keep from being so overwhelmed (only kitchen & bathroom need daily attention)!

I take on projects and worry until the last minute to get them done
*time to finish the one I have without so much fuss about the outcome
*start saying ďnoĒ more often to others
*this one is really totally controlled by me and my procrastination is really the issue here!

Predicament...........ongoing family problems I canít control, which causes stress and Iím a stress eater.

I will be a good listener and understand that they donít want their problems solved because they keep repeating them. I will do what I can and try not to feel guilty. I will try to put everything in perspective.

Fresh perspective!
Looked at problem solving again - I have been overly emotional about work.

Predicament - Work-Stress and not using food to cope
- problem - co-worker mistreating me and her daughter's two doxies
- actions: I've managed to tolerate her negative behaviors for 20 months and only have 5 months left. I will continue to focus my attention on caring for dogs. With their approval I bring Buddy for "play dates." I treat my co-worker with respect and kindness and eventually her mood improves.

Buddy has been with our family for 9 years, I take care of him while DH works long hours. I was "resentful" (identify emotion) not being able to work full time. Now, Buddy and I work together, wonderful experience!
emoticon Linda, clever lesson, easy to do in our minds if we do not have time to write it down.

Day #81 Problem Or Predicament

Stress related issues are divided into two major types: predicaments and problems. A predicament us a stressful situation that won't change for a long time or maybe even never. All you can do is wait for time to pass and hope the predicament will improve or end. Instead of getting overwhelmed by it, break it down into smaller components (or problems) so you can take action steps to help improve the predicament. Don't waste energy, take action! Hmmmm, this all sounds rather familiar doesn't it?!

Predicament - Restaurant food daily on vacation makes healthy food choices difficult.
Action Plan - Better portion control at meals.

I'll gave to think on this some more.

We do sometimes have our share of healthy challenges. They only become problems if we let them.
