There are all kinds of variations.. and yes, adding peppers (or smoked peppers) is one of most popular. You just have to remember that flavors tend to intensify when blending.. a little can go a long way. :)

Regarding the bouillon cubes, I use Rapunzel brand. They're gluten-free and all organic.. you can find them in some specialty shops, but also online, including Amazon.

That sounds delicious, nice to have a savory smoothie for a change!

I bet adding some smoked chipotle peppers would give it a nice twist!
I'm in love with those... I get the brand called La Costena... its got them already smoked in a tomato sauce and its gluten free heaven!

YAY! ( or should I say: Ole!)

PS a gluten free alternative to boulion cubes, that also supplies a day's worth of B vitamins, some trace minerals like selenium and protein is Nutritional Yeast Flakes. I use the Kal brand.

V-8 Type Smoothie. This is one of my all-time favorite non-fruit smoothies... but you'll need a powerful blender to make it. (Think Vitamix or the like.) This recipe makes 2-1/2 to 3 cups.

1 very small carrot (carrot makes the drink very fibrous)
2 stalks celery
1/2" slice of zucchini
1/2" slice of yellow squash
2 cups spinach (or just a pinch, if you want the color to stay reddish)
about 1/4 of a red pepper, seeds included
4-5 campari tomatoes (approx 200-250g), or to taste
pinch of sun dried tomatoes
thin slice of onion
small clove of garlic
1/4 small lemon peeled
1-2 dates
A veggie bullion cube
1 Tblsp of Blend It Up Spice or taco seasoning (optional)
3-4 cups of ice
1/2 - 1 cup water, as needed for consistency

Great idea for a thread, Ivory!
I haven't done green smoothies since lat summer, but I'm sure there will be others that have some fabulous ideas!

Some good detox ingredients are ORGANIC celery ( the conventionally raised celery is very high in pesticides), cilantro, ginger and turmeric root. Organic Spirilina and cracked wall chlorella are two algae that are full of beneficials... provided your system is amenable.

Avocados while high in calories, add beneficial oils AND make the anti oil soluble oxidants such as lutien in the veggies easler for the body to absorb. Plus it adds a welcome mouth feel.

Whenever you can eat organic, do.
Not necessarily bc the food is higher in vitamins, minerals or antioxidants, but bc of what it DOESN'T contain... which would be pesticides and herbicide residue.
My philosophy is that no choice we make is without consequence... you either pay a little more now for food, or pay later in doctor bills.

Remember what's good for one, isn't necessarily good for another, my advice here is a general guideline.

Now with all those caveats aside, go out and have a fun, fabulous Spring day!

I would like receipes that do not include high sugar fruits and preferably receipes without any fruit if it's possible to down one without them.

I'm hoping it will help with cutting sugar cravings and detoxing my liver.

Thank you,

Ivory emoticon
