Hey Chief - I tried out a recipe today for gluten free bread. I looked at some at the all natural grocers, and it was nearly $5 for a small loaf. I have found a couple of recipes that I will try out and let you know how it goes. The one I made tonight was o.k, but still a little dense. I ground my brown rice in my wheat grinder and bought some organic coconut flour. I'll let you know how the next loaf turns out.

Dr Oz suggests a ton of different things, there's no way you could do everything!
Nor should you.
Some of the guests he has on contradict other guests.
Its funny when they are both on the same episode. ha

I guess the biggest service he provides is getting people motivated to do something positive for their health, to become an active player rather than a spectator.

He's also pretty good at explaining how things work in the body.

This 10 day meal plan looked pretty good to me (since I pretty much eat that way already), full of healthy fruits and veggies, so that's why I suggested our Team check it out when motivation is high with New Year Resolutions.

HI Roman!
O you are so bad, now you have me thinking of homemade bread, which I can't eat at all, except in my dreams! ha

I have certain foods I really can't allow in the house.... or can't allow in certain combinations.
Meaning I'm okay with limiting my chocolate intake... unless I have almonds in the house. Almonds and chocolate is a deadly duo for me. " Just one more" is their siren call. ha

I know you are a creative, health oriented cook from following your posts, your family is so lucky to have you!

You sound like you have worked out some great strategies to get the food you need while at your job, so big props for that!

I am totally with you about how awful food makes me feel when I am not eating the right things. Its a HUGE incentive to stay with those foods that benefit me.

Food is kinda like any other life choice, in that you will have a much less drama and feel a lot better by choosing ones that support your long term goals and health!

Hey Chief - thanks for the link. I had been eating that way "before the holidays", but when I started making homemade bread with fresh ground whole wheat flour and honey - my biggest weakness!!!!!! - I started gaining. I gained back 14 pounds from Halloween until Christmas with all the "junk" in the house. I also felt like "cr@@@@p". I have had more bloating and gas and difficulty with my GI tract. I am definitely gluten intolerant. When I was eating lean and carb free except for fruits and veggies, I lost weight and felt better. I can even see the signs in my face - dull looking complexion. I printed out the plan, and I'll see how it works. I cook Quinoa up in large batches and freeze it - then just heat for a minute in the wave. I usually add a smidge of olive oil to it and some spices. The other day, they made it at the hospital I work at and added grilled veggies. I think I will sautee' up a bunch of veggies so that I can just add them into the Quinoa when I want.

HI Tee and Mom!

I agree with Mom!
Frozen blueberries can stain your hands.
Or any place they may go, inclusive of your mouth/teeth/tongue.
All perfectly normal and washes right off.

I did have a YIKES reaction the other day in yoga.
I was in a big rush to have my tea with blueberries and get to class.
I was doing a downward dog and looked at my hands and saw what looked like bruises on the back of one hand.

It turned out it was blueberry juice!

When I was doing printmaking all day, what I would do is take a big salad with protein on top to class in a large plastic container. I brought the bottle of balsamic vinegar with me. Later on I saw these silicone containers and put the balsamic in there.

Here's an example of what the silicone containers look like:
www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/produ
ct
/dressing-to-go-3-pack-containers/10R>41416952

I also took a thermos of tea or broth to drink.

You might try to do the same!
A typical salad for me would be mixed greens with a slice of red chopped onion, a chopped boiled egg or roast chicken or boiled shrimp or beans, a chopped red pepper and olives.
And honey and parmesan cheese but that's not allowed on the diet..

Between nuts and yogurt, beans and fruit I get about 140 grams of carbs a day.
I'm also pretty active I walk 3+ miles a day and do yoga.

: )

PS I don't eat beans any more bc I discovered that beans (and corn) give me foot cramps at nite. I was very sad to say goodbye to them bc they are so tasty. Also chickpeas were in a lot of the gluten free flours I used occasionally. To say nothing of leaving Hummus behind! Whaaa! haha

I need to ask question since you mentioned berries. I usually buy/use fresh blueberries. Since I could not get any fresh berries last week, I bought frozen. I decided to put blueberries in pancakes the next morning. I took bag out of freezer, reached in and tossed a few on the pancakes in pan. I noticed my fingers were blue when I reached for a dish. Is this normal for frozen berries.

I do not have problem trying diet for breakfast, snack and dinner. Lunch is the problem. I can't take the lunch meal to the gym. I attend arthritis swim class at noon and eat lunch afterwards.

I think it is great you eat that way Mzz. Paleo was too low carb for me. I became weaker daily, could not form a simple sentence, etc while on plan and had to stop Someone recommended reading the book Paleo my way, which explained why athletic people require more than veggie and fruit carbs.

Hey Ladies!

I pretty much eat that way already, bc I LOVE fruits and veggies.
I do eat some parmesan and honey on my salads... and honey on my yogurt, which is a no-no on this plan. Once a day I have a small piece of bitter sweet dark chocolate, which is also not allowed.

I think the only grain-like carb allowed is Quinoa bc its got a more of protein and minerals than grains. I've been cooking that for years, although most recently I get the majority of my carbs from fruit and veggies. Quinoa is so easy to cook, you can make it with broth or water, its the same ratio as cooking rice... 1 part quinoa to 2 parts water.... bring it to a boil, stir, lower the heat and put on a lid, 20 minutes later its done.

I usually have greek yogurt for dessert with honey ( I know, the honey's not allowed) and a tablespoon of sesame seeds (more calcium and crunch) on it.

Cow's milk, which I adored,is off the menu bc it spiked my blood sugar too high.
I use coconut WATER rather than almond or coconut milk, but I use it in tea and sparingly.

I also put a half cup of frozen blueberries in my teas to cool them down and add flavor, eat the berries when I'm done drinking the tea.

----------------SHOPPING TIP!!!!---------------------------
.Walmart has a GREAT greek yogurt!
Their brand is called "Great Value" and the name truly says it all!

Its several dollars to half the price of name brand greek yogurts... all that's in it is nonfat milk and probiotics.

Yogurt, like cottage cheese, can be tricky.
Manufacturers love to put stuff in there like alginate, pectin and other fillers to thicken it up, that have no business being there. You don't want filler in your yogurt or cottage cheese!

I'd say give the meal plan a go!

I stopped watching his show since not repeated at night. His magazine has a different diet this month. Paleo did not work for me since I am athletic and need some carbs. Not sure this diet will work, but I will try some of the dishes.

My daughter received a zucchini pasta machine for Xmas. We made the noodles several times. They were not filling. So, we ate as side dish.

I have a fast and tasty quinoa recipe from female chef. One part quinoa to two cups of liquid. I use: 1 cup quinoa to two cups veggie or chicken broth. Stir in half a shredded zucchini, carrot and mix. Cook on low heat until all liquid is absorbed. I eat half cup with dinner. Cool rest and place individual servings in sandwich bag and freeze to eat later.

I watched one of these episodes too and I thought that it makes sense and I actually have been doing some of these things since dec 29 and lost 4 pounds. No wheat was the biggest. Also unsweetened almond milk with protein powder and plain Greek yogurt are great. I am game. I will miss cheese if I remember right that it has no dairy at all except the plain greek yogurt. Even lactose free cheese like Swiss. Still I am game.

I did watch it and it seemed so interesting. I'm thinking of trying it, but the only grain is quinon(sp) that may be hard. I love that he gives you all the info. even a grocery list. Will
you try it?

Hey Team!

I don't know how many of you watch the Dr Oz show, but this week he's been introducing a 10 day diet that's pretty much a paleo-style eating plan that looks pretty durn tasty!

The nice thing about it is that it does all the thinking for you, complete with recipes, grocery lists and suggestions.

The premise of the diet, which I fully agree with, is that inflammation and the hormones it releases, tends to hinder weight loss and contributes to bad health.

Interested?
