Ok, just bought the Nutribullet. Going to go to the health food store tomorrow and get some seeds and nuts and stuff like that. I think I will try one juice a day, and work my way up to two. I am excited to to try this. I will keep you posted on how I feel :)

hey ladies!
One of the benefits of the Nutribullet or any other high speed blender that liquefies things, is that it basically makes your food more bioavailable to you, since its all in micro particles. It does a better job than your teeth in terms of breaking down the cell walls of plants and releasing their contents to our digestive processes.

One of the things I found... granted this is my experience and may not apply to you... is that smoothies aren't as satisfying to me as chewing food. No doubt a personal preference!

I also love smoothies in the summer since I find them refreshing.
You can also make soup and put that in your blender for a "crème" soup.

In any case, I think smoothies are an EXCELLENT, convenient way to get some greens and veggies into one's diet. So much better than some fast food or processed garbage.

CAVEAT: Be careful about using too many raw crucifers since they can interfere with thyroid hormone. You may want to take a VERY small piece of seaweed (size of a postage stamp) if you are planning to have crucifer smoothies on a regular basis. That should provide the iodine you need to counter the action of the crucifers which tend to bind iodine.

I'm all for eating your fruits and veggies!
So go you!

I would be wary of anything that is classified in the "fad" diet category. You don't need to "cleanse" your body. Your liver does that on a daily basis without you doing anything special. SP has posted several articles on the subject. I would start instead with eating clean - organic as much as possible, a good quality probiotic to increase the "good bacteria" in your gut, add yogurt with probiotic or kefir - fermented yogurt which increases your good intestinal flora, etc. Try this for a few weeks and see how you do.

I noticed that I started eating more "comfort" foods (junk) during the holidays - more bread, starches, etc. I also gained back 14 pounds from Halloween thru Christmas - note that my DH and I both have birthdays the week of Thanksgiving and we had a big formal family dinner with all most of his kids, and then my mom flew in from Texas that week as well to celebrate my big 50 and we went out to dinner in Zion's National Park and a very nice restaurant. All in all, however, I got off my clean eating plan and allowed myself to eat "whatever" I wanted. The result was bloat, gas, decreased BM's daily, feeling tired and lethargic, etc. I started eating clean again immediately after Christmas - lean meats and fish, taking my probiotic as well as a separate digestive enzyme (it helps with the gas), lots of veggies (steamed, not boiled), and fruit. I cut out all grain except quinoa.

On another forum on this site, there is a link to a show that Dr. Oz did on a 10 day detox and cleanse. Chief posted it, and I glanced it over and did the detox "bath" since I know we have bad water here. I followed it a little - not exactly and stuck with what I know has worked for me in the past. Perhaps she could post it here for you to look at.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you on whatever decision you make.

My questions are answered in the article. I think the Nutribullet is better suited for my purposes.

Thanks Roman. You are right about the sugar. I am thinking more vegetable based juicing and limited fruit. I am hesitant to invest in a juicer until I research this more. I certainly don't want to end up with $150 useless appliance taking up counter space.

Mzzchief- how is the Nutribullet different from other juicers? The juicer. I am looking at grinds everything up excepts nuts basically.

I just want to cleanse my body from some of the toxins, jump start my weight loss (which never seems to go anywhere!) and try to start fresh by eating as clean as possible when I am finished with the cleanse.

Lol, I need to do more research.

I agree with Roman.

A better idea, in the same spirit of juicing, would be to buy a blender like a Nutri-bullet that grinds everything up and liquifies it?

That way you get all the fiber, vitamins, and minerals... and its more filling too!
Less of a chance of glucose spikes, bc the fiber is included, which slows absorption of glucose.

Great topic, glad you posted!

From everything I have seen, juicing does not cure anything. In fact, what you end up getting is a lot of fructose - sugar, which can spike your blood sugar levels without any of the fiber and some of the nutrients. Many of the vitamins and minerals of fruits are contained in the peel. You would have to consume an enormous amount of juice to receive adequate calories and that equates out to a lot of sugar. Recently, it has been noted that high amounts of sugar in the diet cause inflammation.

Just watched the documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". Seriously thinking of buying a juicer and doing a juice fast. Three days? Maybe ten?

Anyone try juicing? Did you notice the benefits? emoticon
