I carry a bottle of water with me most places I go, even to church.
I make certain my water glass is refilled as soon as I empty it.
I also count the amount of fluid oz I consume each day.
I keep a check on the color of my urine.

As Coach Denise said, pale yellow urine means you are well hydrated, which is a good thing. Are you drinking a lot right before physical activity? That could upset your stomach. Also, many fruits and vegetables are over 90% water, milk, yogurt and many other things contain water, so maybe you are getting more water than you realize.

A recent study compared men who they had drink a few cups of coffee, and another group who drank water for 3 weeks, then the 2 groups switched for 3 weeks. The coffee drinkers were no more dehydrated (according to blood tests) than the water drinkers. Caffeine is a mild diuretic but coffee contains FAR more water than caffeine.

your getting great information. really look at your nutrition tracker and are you in range of all your values especially protein??? also cycle your calories each day with some days at the high end other low end and other in the middle of your range but never below 1200 net per day.

a typical woman(150 lbs) needs around 2000 calories per day, figure how many calories you burn each days during fitness and exercise activities all the other stuff you are doing look what you need to fuel your body just to maintain and keep it healthy.

you are may be putting you body into starvation mode. starvation diet does not mean the absence of food. it means cutting the total caloric intake to less than 60% of what the body requires. it slows you metabolism so you can't drop weight as easy or even gain and you body does not getting enough nutrients.

just an example if you need 2000 per day to maintain weight. you only eat 1500 which is ok but then you burn 1000 you end up with a net of 500 calories. with a net of 500 your body is starving for nutrients and begins to hold onto everything you put into so you can actually gain weigh on 500 calories per day. good rule of thumb is never go below 1200 calories net.

In the past I too have decreased my calorie intake to 1200 and below, whilst exercising vigorously. I found I lost very little weight, was feeling ill all the time and very weak. Since the start of the year, I have been following sparks guide and eating about 1500-1800 calories (mostly higher range). This whilst exercising quite intensely (doing insanity). Although I haven't lost much weight (1kg), I am more toned and my clothes are loose - nearly into my pre pregnancy clothes. I feel so much better. Maybe increasing your calories will help.

I habitually drink 10 or more 8 oz glasses of water every day.
I take blood pressure pills and can get dehydrated pretty easily because of the diuretics.

As mentioned, a female should eat no less than 1200 calories and if you are exercising you should be eating more. By eating too few calories, your body will actually hold onto everything you give it, putting it into perceived starvation mode, which actually causes your body to do the opposite of what you are trying to do and can actually lead to muscle loss and fat gain, again that is the opposite of what you want to do. You mentioned you increased your exercise and dropped your calories, so please readjust your goals on that so you don't fall into the trap of not eating enough. This page has some more info about this as well: www.sparkpeople.com/community

.

In regards to the water consumption making you sick to your stomach, there could be various things affecting that. Are you drinking it throughout the day or are you drinking a lot at once? If you are drinking it throughout the day, then it shouldn't cause you to feel that way. The description of your urine sounds spot on for what it should be, so that's a good thing!

lovinglife,

be careful going to 1100 calories. I had been eating between 1000 and 1200 calories a day and my weight loss completely stalled. I just went up to 1300-1500 a day and have lost 3 lbs in 1 week.

Your body goes into starvation mode and will not let you use any fat stored at all. So you can't lose weight if you go too low.

Just be careful.

I have been taking twice a day a drink made from one banana, about a half cup of yogart, 1/2 cup almond milk and a scoop of Garden of LIfe brand Raw Protein powder....The weight is coming off with all of the extra protein....To loose I have heard you need 65 grams of protein a day....I am also riding a stationary bicycle for 22 to 30 miles a day....I have 90 lbs to loose and I want to loose 50 by the end of May.....

Hi LovingLife43, I truly understand the frustration. I don't necessarily have any "answers," but I can definitely empathize. I found myself actually gaining weight, but kick-started my weight loss was eliminating the bread I was eating (only a little and well within my carb/calorie amount). I think wheat doesn't work well for me. That may not be the answer for everyone, but it helped me. You may want to look at particular foods that you eat and pay close attention to how your body reacts. As far as water, have you tried adding a little fresh lemon juice? Whatever you do, don't give up!! Sometimes it takes trial and error to figure out what works best for you.

(Don't forget that if you've increased your exercise, particularly resistance training, you could be gaining a little muscle as you lose fat... Have you noticed a change in body measurements even if not on the scale? Being healthy and feeling good are priority!)

Hang in there!! Here's to a joyFULL life...whatever it takes...

Joy

As I start week 4, I've only lost 2 lbs. since I started. It's a little frustrating but I'm not giving up especially with only 7 days left. My momentum is high at this point so quitting is not an option. For this last week I have lowered my calorie intake to 1100 calories per day while I have increased my exercise. My only problem is that drinking 8 cups a water a day is making me sick to the stomach. Is this normal? My urine is a very light yellow, like a squeezed lemon to use coach Denise's words but it still worries me. Any suggestions?
