I'm loving taming my sweet tooth. I've been reading labels and finding hidden sugar. I've been avoiding sugar added food as much as possible. I can't believe that I'm not craving sweets. Go Team Go!

Beginning week 3. I found that I still crave sweets when I'm depressed, but I chose frozen blueberries instead of ice cream - YAH! Haven't had any real cravings for sugar, though I still have one cup of Hills Bros. fat free Cappuccino in the morning. Fruit tastes sweeter and satisfies my want of something sweet after dinner.

I like the concept of "taming" the sweet tooth--implies you don't have to give it up entirely.. I've definitely cut back on the sweets this month--had to get over the holiday addictions to treats! What I do now is keep it in check, I might have a small piece of chocolate or a Gin Gin (ginger chew), but I can stop with something small. And I've definitely increased my intake of fruit!

W3D5 - nothing I shouldn't have had. Ate a bit of dried fruit on oatmeal, a 20 cal cup of cocoa. and my daily square of very dark chocolate. If I get it as dark as I can find, I'm not tempted to eat more; one is satisfying. It's the sugar in most chocolates that hook me, not the chocolate. I especially like the 85 & 90% dark chocolate squares.

Go to your nutrition tracker and scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see a button labeled 'Change Nutrition Goals' - click that and it will take you to the Edit Nutrition Goals page.
Scroll down a little and you will see a button labeled 'Add Another Nutrient to Track' - there are lots of things you can add to your tracker, but 'sugar' isn't one of them. Your choices are fructose, galactose, glucose, lactose, and sucrose. Those are all types of sugar and you can track them all if you like.

Hope that helps,
Kerry aka Trouble

WOW! I can't believe the difference from week two to week three. The sugar count is WAY DOWN. The cravings are too! I am beginning to enjoy this sugar free diet.

I'm here to get healthier just one day at a time!

Doing okay, but trying to do with less sugar in breakfast cereals. Replaced Frosted Mini Wheats with store brand Cheerios type cereal. Found I needed just a little Truvia anyway, even with half a cup of blueberries on it. So I'm not really breaking that need for sweetness habit - just giving my body a break from it. Have already been having 2 or 3 servings of fruit each day so I wouldn't increase that any more. I track food nearly every day (Yesterday was the first day I've missed in four months.) so I keep aware of what I'm eating.

W3D4 - interesting experience today. I was at a party with very few healthy options. I had a real soda, the first one I've drunk in ages that wasn't diet, that had real sugar and caffeine. Know what? It didn't matter. I don't care if I have another, it didn't make me want to go out and buy some, didn't even tempt me to have another. One can was plenty, and I'll go right back to drinking my daily green tea, unsweetened.

I'm coming to the end of week 3 for me. I'm surprised at how my craving for sweets as diminished. I'm eating fruit again - and so is my hubby! His sweet tooth has settled down as well - a bonus to my joining this challenge. emoticon

I'm mid-week three and not craving the sweets. I have had a taste here and there, but a taste is all I want. I have no problem with the fact I have had these tastes. My problem is I craved potato chips. I really didn't remember how long it had been since I had any, several months at least. Til yesterday. We bought chips. Lucky for me the DH was there and he ate a lot. I tried eating them with my non-dominant hand (as suggested in a slideshow on yesterday's "get motivated on daily spark) and that did slow me down.

Thanks for mentioning the apricots which reminded me of the cherries in the frig. I too love fruit of almost any kind.

W3D3 - NO sweets today!
Edit - Ack, I'm wrong! I had one bite-sized corner of coffee cake. I resisted all the other goodies and had only a taste of this one.

I make a dessert that I call "Yogurt Fluff". Take one 6 serving package of sugar free jello, add 2 cups boiling water and dissolve in blender. Add 2 cups small ice cubes filled to brim with cold water. Stir until dissolved. Add tsp of vanilla, 1/2 cup of fat free greek yogurt and blend. Pour into 6 glasses and refrigerate until firm. Makes a great dessert with a dollop of FF whip. Enjoy!

I am amazed that I now crave fruit --- I usually buy a bag of small either Gala or Fuji apples. They come in handy -- add peanut butter or humus-- it is a complete snack or dessert.

Energy still high after this detox from sugar and sweeteners-- love being able to taste more flavors than before --

I have been doing some baking using 1/2 the sugar called for and then subbing the other half with artificial sweetener. By using 1/2 and 1/2 It doesn't have that after taste like using full artificial sweetener. Not bad at all.

Well, today was the first day of week 3 for me, and I caved. I had a Little Debbie snack cake. I don't feel too badly about it, though, because I have lost 2 lbs. Also, I've done well otherwise. I am going to get to the store and stock up on some different fruits. I have diced mangoes in the fridge, along with clementine oranges. I want some apples and bananas and maybe some kiwi :) I can't wait until summer! My family grows and sells produce, including various fruits (including various berries) and vegetables.

Tomorrow is the beginning of week three for me. I am ok without obvious cravings but I am suddenly in a terrible mood. Bored as heck tonight. And too restless to settle down with a book or movie. I am aimlessly wandering between Spark, Facebook and the newspapers. And I think it is just sugar. Usually around this time one of us would suggest a trip to the cafe/sweetshop. So there is this gap in my evening I can't seem to fill. Ugh.

week three is going well. brownies were bought to my workplace yesterday. i actually nibbled a little piece and threw the rest of the brownie away when no one was looking. it just did not appeal to me. looks like my body is adjusting to less sugar. i still eat foods with sugar in the ingredients like my fav salad dressings, granola bars and some cereals. but i've eliminated cookies, candies, cakes, and all other pastries. that's saying a LOT for a sweet-tooth like me. There are days where I feel strong enough to conquer the upcoming holidays, but there are days where I'm terrified. I truly enjoy cooking, and baking, and I love seeing the joy on people's faces when they eat something delicious I've prepared. Christmas in previous years has been all about the food, fun and family. This year, our family unit has changed as my grandmother now has dementia, so I know certain family members will be depending on food to keep the fun alive, and with my new challenges, and trying to stay away from sugar...I'm not sure how this is going to work.

Curb your sweet tooth emoticon
By Leslie BarrieGot a late-night sugar craving that just won't quit? "To satisfy your sweet tooth without pushing yourself over the calorie edge, even in the late night hours, think 'fruit first,'" says Jackie Newgent, RD, author of The Big Green Cookbook. So resist that chocolate cake siren, and instead enjoy a sliced apple with a tablespoon of nut butter (like peanut or almond) or fresh fig halves spread with ricotta. Then sleep sweet, knowing you're still on the right, healthy track.

Week Three, have vastly improved in reduction of food items with added sugar, which is pretty much my sugar related goal. I am only aiming for reduction, not total elimination. I have learned in the past that the concept of total reduction of added sugar does not work for me. I seek moderation & am reducing sugar overall (including natural sugar such as in fruit, etc.) in order to better manage my health but I no longer feel it is necessary to eliminate sugar altogether.

I am beginning to develop my plan for the holidays. Being around food and family is tough.
My new mantra is "if I don't eat it, I won't bake it, and I don't eat sweets. "
My husband knows differently. I will have one bite of a delicious treat, but I will stop after the one bite.

I had a difficult time with temptation during Halloween. I definitely had a few pieces of candy over several days. I didn't go overboard, so that was a plus, and I tracked every little piece. Seeing how many calories and how much fat were in the fun size pieces really made a difference and I was able to limit myself to 2 each day.

I have been back on track this week - mostly. Yesterday, I ordered a pumpkin spice latte and it wasn't sugar free. I thought the syrup tasted terrible though and couldn't drink it. My husband's birthday was yesterday and we celebrated with mini pies and brownies from the bakery instead of cake. I didn't have any pie, but took a little nibble of my son's brownie. The Key Lime pie looked great, though. It is awesome to appreciate how pretty a pie is without having any.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, the crazy dog snuck into the kitchen and ate the caramel crunch apple pie during the night. It must have been delicious, because the tiny pie pan was clean as a whistle!

Today I am finally able to eat normally again - stomach flu was making it darn hard.

I am making sure I get plenty of fruit, vegetables and fibre today in the hopes that it will lessen the cravings later in the day - seemed to work the last time I was 'detoxing' :)

Good luck to all of you!

So far this week I have been doing pretty well.

Sugar addiction is like any other - there is no such thing as just one cookie. Or a small teeny piece of cake. Or a half a donut.

It doesn't work for people like us.

Last year at Weight Watchers, our leader asked the following question. "What are you going to do when you reach your goal weight? What will happen then?" Well, from my experience many, many times, we reach our goal and then we relax. We tell ourselves we can eat all these cookies, we lost the weight. But the cycle then starts all over again.

I am an ex-smoker. I know how it works. Sugar, like nicotine is all or nothing. There is no such thing as just one cigarette or just one cookie. It will always be this way. So I think the first thing is acceptance of that fact.

I've come back to week 3 because I got derailed over Halloween and now I'm finding I am having cravings again.

I completed this challenge back in June, I think it was? Major lifechanging stuff!

Unfortunately I am one of those who just can't have the stuff in the house, and the kids' candy bags...not helpful. I honestly hope that one day I will have that kind of self control, but that day is not today.

I need to get back on track. The candy is gone, and I am good about not bringing things into the house generally, but even before Halloween I found myself sometimes having just a spoonful of white sugar, all on it's own. This is a powerful drug!

I know what I need to do to get past this because I have done it before, but I am posting here to recommit myself to the effort. I WILL do this. I have done really well the last few months, and I feel like I have really changed my life for the better. I will NOT slide slowly back into these habits.

I relate with your post but also agree we can do this one step at a time.

I can't remember if this is week 3 or not! But I am not doing well.

I will NOT give up, though emoticon

My ticker shows that my goal is 4 pounds. That's just 4 pounds in the next month. I have to set short term weight loss goals or I get too discouraged.

Even 4 pounds is a challenge.

This is the fourth day of my third week. I am finding alternatives to sugar- popcorn, apple microwaved with cinnamon.....drinking water. I have not had added bad sugar for 7 days. After a couple days of a sugar headache, this seems easier than having a treat now and then.

Hi VKKESU,

I changed my lifestyle three months ago and have lost 25 lbs. What few people have discussed is how weight loss, cravings, and exercising is affected by tom. Granted it's not an exciting topic, but it would be good for ladies to know that tom can really throw you a curve ball! I was really down on myself the first time tom de-railed my efforts, but now I am aware that I may be low energy, crave sugar, or be bloated for a few days. Not a big deal, but I now know that it will too pass and I'll be back on track soon.

Hormones can be a very difficult beast to tame! Keep up the great work!
