Rick Gallop's approach to the GI way of eating is very easy to follow - by categorizing the foods into the three traffic light approach:

Green foods - Go and eat as much as you like.
Yellow foods - Caution, eat in moderation
Red foods - Stop and avoid eating

***GREEN LIGHT FRUITS***
Apples
Avocado (1/4 of the fruit)
Blackberries
Blueberries
Cherries
Cranberries
Grapefruit
Grapes
Guavas
Lemons
Oranges
Peaches/nectarines
Pears
Plums
Raspberries
Rhubarb
Strawberries

BOTTLED/CANNED/DRIED
Apples (dried)
Applesauce (unsweetened)
Fruit spreads (double fruit, no added sugar)
Mandarin oranges
Peaches/pears in juice

JUICES
Eat the fruit rather than drink its juice

***YELLOW LIGHT FRUITS***
Apricots
Bananas
Figs
Kiwis
Mangoes
Papayas
Persimmons
Pineapple
Pomegranates

BOTTLED/CANNED/DRIED
Apricots (canned in juice)
Apricots (dried) (may use modest amount for baking)
Cranberries (dried) (may use modest amount for baking)
Fruit cocktail in juice

JUICES
Apple (unsweetened)
Cranberry (unsweetened)
Grapefruit (unsweetened)
Orange (unsweetened)
Pear (unsweetened)
Pineapple (unsweetened)
Vegetable (unsweetened)

***RED LIGHT FRUITS***
Cantaloupe
Honeydew melon
Kumquats
Melons
Prunes
Watermelon

BOTTLED/CANNED/DRIED
Applesauce (containing sugar)
Canned fruits in syrup (all)
Dates (dried) (may use modest amount for baking)
Dried fruit (most) (may use modest amount for baking)
Prunes
Raisins (may use modest amount for baking)

JUICES
Fruit drinks (all)
Prune
Sweetened juices, including naturally sweetened (all)
Watermelon
