we have an applebees right by my work, and the spinach and berry salad is awesome! I leave off the blue cheese (ICK!) and get the vinaigrette on the side. It is very simply, spinach, blueberries, strawberries and grilled chicken with the raspberry vinaigrette on the side. It's $9.00 for a whole salad here, and fills me up and keeps me full for around 425 calories. :)

:) ttfn... :)

Have a Splendiferous Day!

Day one for me today. Doing well so far. Getting ready to take the dogs for a walk for my cardio. With two bluetick hounds it is a workout. Loving the food plan. simple foods that I will eat. I'm telling myself only need to do this 14 days. I can do this.

emoticon Day one went pretty well (besides the birthday glass of wine and piece of carrot cake emoticon ). I need to ramp up the exercise though. I walk my two dogs twice a day but it is not enough cardio to mean much. The key for me is planning so need to work on this.

Day 1 has gone well. I did 25 minutes on the elliptical trainer followed by some stretching. Also went for a 30 minute walk after dinner and logged 2.5 hours of NEAT cooking, doing dishes, grocery shopping etc. Feeling motivated for tomorrow. Family Loved the Southwestern Chicken dish! Not sure how or where we are suposed to log NEAT - anyone else know?

emoticon went ok. Made the breakfast actually liked it with the spinach! worked out on the elliptical at health club. Lunch was good and easy dipped unsalted pretzels in my honey mustard can't eat them plain to bland. Dinner was a little different since I didn't have all ingredients for the recipe. but I did track everything and now going to brush teeth and try to get 8 hours of sleep!

Day one was, well, ok. I did great on the exercise part. I went to the gym and worked out on the elliptical for 35 min. I did not prepare my meals for today and that is where I fell short. However, will be on track or tomorrow!

emoticon Before I bought groceries for this, the spices we had were black pepper, red pepper, and cinnamon. We weren't stocked any better on other things either so when we knew we'd hit $200 I stopped buying for week one. But now I have some things that will last a while and I think shopping for week two will be easier

I put green pepper and tomatoes cheese in my eggs and put them in my 110% whole wheat sandwich thin and had an orange with that. It was great and really stuck with me during my 5 mile hike and longer. We had skipped the spinach only because we knew we had reached our budget limit.

The Southwest Chicken was very good too. I substituted French cut green beans for the corn since I can't eat corn. My husband is a picky eater so I have to eat everything. I saved the other servings in the freezer. I had bought 3 lbs of chicken and cooked it in my crock pot so I have 2 lbs of chicken frozen for other recipes.

With my celery I had almonds instead of peanut butter and I had cantaloupe instead of a banana since I had shopped a few days ago and I'm having to figure out how to time all these fruits and veggie purchases so I can eat them before they go bad.

I feel full and happy! My cardio was on my stationary bike and then I used a stretching DVD.

Day 1 went well I did make small adjustments to my menu which I had planned ahead to keep within calorie and nutrition plan. I did my cardio in 2 10 min sessions.

Yes starting strong is a good thing, but continuing is always my issue too. I am hoping that getting through this two week challenge will make me want to follow through.

I got in an after dinner walk with the family. Did 2 miles, and my 4 yo son walked a good chunk of the way. I was walking the dog mostly while hubby pushed the stroller. Plus my NEAT of pushing a shopping cart with 3 kids in it for 45 minutes and standing to do the dishes for about 25 more. I think I nailed the fitness for today.

Brightest Blessings!

Good on day 1. I am not following the nutrition plan exactly, but have lowered my calorie range for this challenge and am focusing on more fruits and veges, and I am pulling most of my dinners from the recipes but not in order (I have nights when I get home early and others when I'm late, so I rearranged based on prep and cook times to meet my schedule). Logging my food/fitness next and then going for my second walk. Need to find a farmer's market so I don't break the budget buying lots of fresh fruits and veges! Feel motivated and confident that I am ready to follow through!

5/20 I finished Day 1. Got my 2 10-minute cardios in. NEAT was mowing the lawn. I'm not going for the second walk. I'm off to put this week's meals in the tracker for Tuesday's grocery shopping trip. Have a great Day 2 everyone!

I also used chicken I had previously prepared, it was left over whole chicken, so it was white and dark meats...I figure it isn't a terrible thing and it uses up food store I already had, cleans out the fridge too... emoticon !!!

Dinner was a hit with the family, I don't like pineapple so I substituted mandarin oranges. Also left off the cheese and put on soy sour cream, so I think it all worked out in the end.

Brightest Blessings!

I think the Day 1 lunch is the one meal I've been following consistently most of last week. Of course, do I follow it today? No. I made a slightly dry (next time I'll add more mustard) egg salad since I didn't have the egg breakfast.

As for dinner, well, I've posted an SOS elsewhere because I need to cook an ingredient today that's not on the plan.

Man, you'd think I'd be more organized by now. Le sigh. At least I'm still tracking my meals, following the motivation tips, and going to do my fitness (walking!) today.

Hope everyone just starting now has a good day!

Finding your time of day for exercise is a challenge...I was waiting until the kids were in bed at night, but that never seemed to work as it was finally quiet time for me and the last thing I wanted to do was exercise. SO I plan to try and do it with my 4 yo son while the little guy is taking his nap. Might help to wear the 4 yo out a bit...though he seems to have more energy than the law should allow... emoticon

Lunch was good...sandwich and pretzels weren't bad and quite filling.

Great going to the rest of you...lets make this week a success.

...completed the workout for 26 minutes...worked out great to do it with my son.

Today, May 20th is my day 1. I made sure I read The Spark Solution and understood what needed to be done first. I need to figure out when I will be doing my exercise. Today I plan on doing it at the end of my work day before I leave the office. But I can already tell that it might be a problem in the future.

Today is my Day 1. I was going to try to start last week, but realized that I wanted to read the majority of the book before starting in on a routine I didn't understand.

Now I am ready and can't wait to see how this week #1 goes for me and my hubby. He's going to follow this with me as best as he can or wants too.

Day 1 - May 20th...breakfast was easy to make...as easy as I normally make. Plus I prepped a bit last night by making and crumbling the bacon. I made the same for the kids without the spinach and gave them mandarin oranges.

Deb,

I skipped lunch because I didn't know what I would be up against going to Applebees for an early dinner so I was starved when we got there just before 4. I didn't really think about not having a salad or anything green with it until later on. I ate an apple and then had a small bowl of ice cream with fresh slightly sweetened strawberries and still stayed within my calories. I think they are a rip off when it comes to nutrition.

My neck is skinnier this last week, lost a half inch around. Did I tell you my jeans are getting longer?

I am loving this new eating plan but always add extra fresh veggies to every one. I am not hungry all the time and not craving the junk.

Have a great day.

Brenda, it sounds to me like you did really well. We don't have an Applebees around here, but after seeing their nutritional information, I think I would avoid eating there. They are always advertising on tv with really cheap meals. I think they must trick you into coming in for a cheap meal and then making it up with side salads, desserts and $3 iced teas!

I think I can officially say I'm done with Day 1 now. I skipped breakfast yesterday morning, but had the lunch and dinner from the plan. I baked my bacon and extra chicken so this morning I was prepared to make the bacon/spinach scramble. I'm really not used to eating so much for breakfast and felt bogged down by eating so much for a while but normally I would be starving by now and digging into some kind of mid-morning munchies so maybe I just need to get used to this breakfast thing. DH was a little suspicious about the SW chicken rice dinner last night. He likes the idea of me being able to plan ahead for meals, but he tends to be anti- health food. I'll probably end up eating the 2 servings of leftovers and he'll have to fend for himself on the days he doesn't want to eat what I make.

Thank you for the link to Applebees. I asked for a nutritional chart but the server didn't know where to look. I ended up ordering the Napa Chicken and Portabellows ($10.89) with a red wine sauce, asked for a to go container and put half in there. I ate the other half and it was very good. Scared to eat the whole thing although I could have. I just looked it up on the Nutrition page and it is only 450 calories but the sodium is very high at 1440, fat 13, Sat fat 3.5, carbs 31, fiber 5, protein 54. Later I will eat a green salad. So all and all, I did really well ordering blind like that. So glad I only ate half. I guess they sell everything ala carte because I expected to get some salad with it. I probably won't go there again. I had a brewed iced tea with lemon to drink and that was almost $3, That's why I prefer to eat at home but I had a $25 gift card to use.

I survived emoticon I'm cooking for one and also still learning how to cook. These new recipes are a challenge, but I'm following them to the letter. Breakfast turned out great, what could go wrong with a turkey and cheese sandwich (loved the dijon mayo) and dinner was very nice but I have leftovers and my refrigerator is full with all the grocery items for the rest of weeks meals.

I don't think I'll be able to eat 2 snacks each day. I'm so full after breakfast and lunch. I had to make myself eat dinner and the second snack. Once I got organized and gathered items for a recipe, and once I started to prepare the meal, I gained a bit of confidence with the results.

The major part of this challenge will be meal preparation. The side planks are a challenge, but Rome wasn't built in a day! Say positive, I really feel pleased that I survived emoticon

Good luck all! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone, no morning fitness for me today, just ran out of time; will do my best tonight. Breakfast and lunch was on track but I did change out dinner tonight because last night was sorta mexican food and I didn't want the same type tonight again so I opted for a meatless mushroom burger with fresh mushroom a laughing cow cheese wedge and some banana peppers, extra helping of broccoli and some oven french fries (that might not have been a good trade off). But no time during the day for snacks so maybe it will weigh out the same ??? We shall see.

Gotta get going hope every one has a good evening !!!

Just popped back in to post that I just completed 20 mins of an aerobic DVD. Good for me, Woo Hoo !!!

Is this where we're to post the workout for the day as well? If not, let me know where? otherwise
Monday's workout:
Let fitness expert Jessica Smith help you burn fat and build metabolically active lean muscle with this quick but effective total body circuit that combines cardio and strength training moves that you can do from home. Suggested equipment: 3 or 5 lb dumbbells or two, 16 oz. water bottles and a chair: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdFuSxDHsiI

skinny Mom's challenge: (and it really got the heart rate up) www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player
_embedded&v=KDko9iW1-0Q

And then it was off to 1/2 day in Kindergarten. Fun in the Sun day.

as for my NEAT minutes, I walked around the playground and classroom, I walk while I work at the computer, I walk while I crochet. I didn't separate out my workout cals/min and my NEAT cals/min. But by my HRM, yesterday's workouts burned: 434 cals in 69 min

I haven't been able to make it to the grocery store yet and am using just what we have on hand. Monday's breakfast was 1/2 of my oatmeal recipe I call "My weird oatmeal" and 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch was the rest of it along with 1/2 grapefruit. DH fixed supper and we had microwaved chicken breast with frozen Brussels sprouts. He does it all in 1 dish, It's good. My snacks were: Presto popped microwaved popcorn seasoned with chili powder, cumin, paprika and crushed red pepper; the last snack was 1/2 c cottage cheese with 1 cup blackberries.

Brenda, here's a link to their nutritional information. If you scroll way down, they have a section for Weight Watchers and under 550 calorie meals. Some of the other stuff is amazing--over 1500 calories for an entre! Good grief, that's a whole day's worth of calories!

I did the same thing with the rice in that chicken recipe. I just cooked it separately and added it at the end. Rice is so easy to cook, I don't really understand the need for instant rice.

Wow, I have enough leftover of the chicken dish to feed 16 people at a cup per serving. I live alone so I will be sharing it with my neighbors. One thing I don't like about the recipe is using instant rice because I seldom use instant anything. I have brown rice on hand. I used my rice cooker. Instead of adding two cups of water, I only added one. My chicken was pre cooked (by me) so I heated the salsa and spices and beans, then added the chicken and rice and just heated it all up. It was just all right plus I forgot about the dollop of sour cream. Not a fan of SW foods.

So far I am doing fine with this. I had started the challenge last week but decided to start over with the team. Have lost a couple pounds and 1/2 inch around since last Wednesday. This is working and for the most part I am liking this.

I have a gift card for Applebees so my friend and I are going today for an early dinner. Looked up the menu but can't find anywhere about the nutrition for the meals. I have never been there. Eating out is not my favorite thing to do because I don't really know what they do with the food. I did look up the Oriental Grilled Chicken Salad on the nutrition tracker and it is well over 1000 calories! I will let you know what I end up ordering.

Good lick everyone.

Day 1 went pretty well, I did some tweeking to the menu since I had not been able to make it to the store yet, but it went pretty well. I did have a hiccup for the dinner, we had unexpected visitors for an hour then I still had to go to the store so we picked up Subway for supper. I still want to try the Southwest chicken and rice meal but maybe on the fish day since no one in my family will eat the fish! I walked a mile in the morning and then an hour of grocery shopping for some aerobics!

I was impressed by what I ate and did on Day 1, because I have yet to have time to go to the grocery store. I had to sub meals from different days just because of the items I was missing. I'm a teacher, so I definitely need a snack after school to keep me going until dinner. That is when I usually cave and eat junk because I'm starving. It was nice to have an idea ready of something healthy. It was still hard to stop after that though...I just need to have self-control! :) I took my dog on a late walk, which I never do. I'm having trouble carving out a consistent time a day to exercise because it all depends on my 2 year old. Each day will be different, so I'll need to plan ahead which times will work for which days. So far so good. I hope I can stick with it!

Today is my day 1.
Hit the grocery store yesterday afterwork. Didn't like everything on the list, so I improvised. Long days, short nights!

While I worked out with Coach Nicols Body Barre, the eggs boiled. Before heading out the door, grabbed 2 slices of bacon to cook in the microwave. Would you believe I BURNT the bacon ... emoticon .

Well, I hope everyone had a good day!

Still no book... but I followed my Spark plan, tracked everything. I did 90 minutes of exercise. I have renewed my commitment, so Day 1 was actually a success for me. I joined SparkCoach, and completed it's Day 1. I'm making progress! emoticon

Day one went well for us. I had to substitute the dinner from day 5 because my husband bought fresh fish and I wanted to use that right away. I wanted to limit my alcohol to 1 or no drinks per night and I was able to do that. It's a little tricky getting dinner on the table at a reasonable time but we managed to do that because the recipes are relatively easy and we got home earlier. (Our usual time is between 6 and 7). On to day 2!

Day one went well. I am using the recipes as a general guide. I tend to be hungrier earlier in the day, so having dinner as my biggest meal isn't ideal for me. I add a little to breakfast and lunch and snacks and go easier at dinner. I cook for myself, so I don't have to worry about a hungry family. I gave in and had a 1oz bag of chips, so my dinner was a little skinnier than usual to stay in range.
I did 45 min on the elliptical (my usual 45-60 minutes) and an hour and a quarter of walking. 16k on the Fitbit.

Looking forward to tomorrow. I will do the strength training, but also cardio again as my favorite class-beginner spin- is on Tuesdays.

Had to make some changes because of a high potassium problem, but kept within calorie limits and did 50 minutes of fitness. I am still waiting for my book to arrive.

Day one was a success...at least I hope it was! I can't eat some of the foods in the meal plan, so I substituted other Sparkpeople recipes of approximately the same calorie level. I fit in my 30 minutes of fitness, playing eclipse ball and also worked in a 20 minute walk.

We've done the hardest part... Day 1 Peeps...we can do this!

Not starting as well as I had hoped. But, doing ok. I was not able to shop over the weekend, so. Was not able to prepare the meals. I was not home all day either. But for breakfast I went to a restaurant and ordered a spinach omelet with egg beaters, and a side of fruit. For lunch ordered a turkey sandwich on whole wheat and all the veggies. I thought I would get to make the Southwest Chicken, I had bought the ingredients, but husband decided he was hungry now, so we stopped once again. Blah. But I did not go over or under. I hope to get to follow menu better tomorrow.

I did get to go to the gym, did 60 minutes step cardio class. Great workout. Played at the park with my toddler. I did squats, lunges, calf raises, hips flexors and some other stand in place exercises along with arm exercise from pushing him on the swing, while pushing him on the swing, about 20 minutes.

Tomorrow is a new day. I can do this.

Color it up!

I made some swaps today, but I measured and tracked everything and stayed within my calorie limits. My amount of protein was over some. I have the food I need for the next few days and will go shopping probably on Thursday. My biggest food challenge will be dinner which my wonderful DH fixes. We will need to start planning together. He has agreed to use quinoa instead of white rice and has already looked up some recipes on line.

The meals were quick and tasty. I never felt hungry all day. I don't think I'll need to eat two snacks per day. I completed food shopping for the week and thank goodness I had most foods recommended. Just needed to buy fresh produce and dairy products.

Thanks SparkTeam for this book and appreciate getting me out of a rut. I see that I was eating the same foods day after day and very little dairy products except for skim milk.

Looking forward to Day 2! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I stayed within the calorie range. For my exercise today I did 20 minutes on the Wii Fit, 30 minute March It Out by Kathy Smith as well as walked over 6000 steps on my Fitbit.

Looking forward to reading more of the Spark Solution and meeting my goals.

I completed my first day on the Spark Solution lifestyle plan.

I did good, ate what I was supposed to, and did all of my exercise. And I was not hungry between meals at all. I didn't even have both of my snacks. Maybe this will work. emoticon

I got it done... started my day with a protein shake made with almond milk, activia yogurt and protein powder.... thats how I start every day though since I had lapband surgery 4 years ago ...

was within my calorie range and got in 30 cardio time...

all six lights lighted up on my active link so that means I got in all my NEAT time too...

over all I am very pleased with how my day went... hopefully I will keep up the good work on day 2...

Today was a success. I actually didn't eat all the meals. I stopped eating when I was hungry at breakfast and had half the food left so I ate that for my dinner. My workout was a run/walk. I'm working a C25K program. Finally broke the 3 min mark. Farthest I have ever ran. Took an extra walk today. Did some stretching.

Ready for Day 2.

The day has gone well. I feel really good about the healthy food choices made based on Spark Swaps meal plan.
Though I haven't been very physically active, (busy doing computer project all day long), I do plan to still go and get my "workout" in for the day.
I'm excited for how well today went and the things I was able to accomplish and am also VERY excited to continue on tomorrow and accomplish even more things.
This has been a wonderful "spark" for me! Thank you SP!
