Day 4 wasn't very good. Went over a little on nutrition & didn't get in any exercise really. Did OK walking, but no planned exercise.

Day 5 was a little better. Didn't do too well with nutrition, but did get in a Spark People cardio video.

Day 5 completed. Kept to calorie range, because I prepared meals and took to work. Walked at Home with Leslie Sansone and did a upper body band workout with Nicole Nichole. Didn't get my 10000 steps quite done. New iPad Mini required quite a bit of attention yesterday.
Looking forward to weigh in on Monday. I think part of my muffin top is gone!!!

Didn't get online yesterday, (5/17), so today I'm playing "catch up".
I had breakfast and didn't eat again until late.....I was out most of the day. Got home at 9 pm and had myself a Weight Watchers turkey sausage, egg and cheese breakfast muffin.
The weight is going down slowly. Today I'm down 1.2 pounds from last Saturday. emoticon Needless to say I'm happy about this. More so than the weight loss, I'm feeling better. I'm not bloated much anymore and my shirts are getting baggy. emoticon

I was all depressed and went by the rice ice cream (chocolate obsession flavor) at the store, thinking I would buy some and the heck with my food plan - not a good idea for me since I tend to eat the entire container once it is in the house. Anyway, I stood there and looked at it and bought some pre-cut watermelon instead. I really like watermelon and enjoyed every bite.

WIN!

I pulled a muscle in my back again and will have to look at alternate exercise options and take it easier for a bit.

I did 11 miles (25200 steps on my FitBit), 11 flights of stairs. My family is getting involved and are very supportive! It's wonderful to watch everyone striving to make healthier choices in both their physical and spiritual life.

I ate within my nutritional ranges, however caved in to some animal non-iced crackers.

It is challenging to work 8 hours at a desk job and then come home to get those steps in. I'm determined! I like SP Fit &Firm video. I managed to do 10 jumping jacks in a row which I couldn't do two months ago!

My energy level is low... I don't understand why! I'm using the SparkPeople Total Body Sculpting Dvd, it is challenging. I find some of the routine in the book too difficult to do well and don't want to get hurt. I also walked for a mile and shaved a minute off my time. I do feel good after I exercise. I'm trying to follow the food plan, but keep making adjustments so leftovers don't go to waste, perhaps that's why I'm not losing much weight, but I am staying within my calorie range and drinking all my water plus some... I know, hang in there...never give up!!!

I walked outside this a.m. for a little over 30 min for my cardio. I needed to finish up my step goal for the week. I will be doing some Zumba tomorrow a.m. tonight I tried the strength training exercises and they were harder than I thought I didn't get through all of them. progress not perfection. So I will do the ones I didn't do tomorrow and catch up so I'm on the right day. I did my stretches. Stayed within calories.

I wasn't a big fan of the mac/cheese;maybe the cheese wasn't sharp enough, but it said sharp. My dh liked it. Most everything else, I've liked. To answer Coach's question, yes, I tend to vilify certain foods & call them bad. I was surprised to see real bacon on the list; I figured it would be turkey bacon like most plans.

Today was pretty good until tonight. I need to redo my dinner log. My son had his rank graduation, and we ran out of time for me to make dinner before we went, so it was plain old burger, potato salad, pasta salad, etc. My good news was I was on my feet almost all day until I sat down to check in here. He also had field day, so it was a lot of stand and watch, but I didn't sit. I noticed some people talking about traveling and eating. Have done some traveling for work, I typically try to stick to places where I can find nutrition info for the menus online before I go. If its a hosted event where selections are slim, I try and find something close in the restaurant menus and make my decisions based on that. I may end up off a little on the calories, but it typically doesn't seem to be much.

I am hoping to get on track since my work schedule seems to be finalized. I still struggle with trying to eat correctly with working a 2nd shift. I find it difficult to prepare the food and eat. Breakfast and lunch run into each other so I usually have brunch and an evening meal. Snacks at times.

We had the breakfast burrito and we decided we had enjoyed some of the other breakfasts better but it was still tasty. We loved, loved the BLT sandwich. Decided it will be on our list for sure and will probably be eaten a lot. We also skipped the beer snack and added a little double churned ice cream. Great! That will eaten again, also.

We are rarely hungry and get our exercise in. 3-mile walk today. Then errands with more walking.

Keep up the good work everybody emoticon

I made the Mexican burrito for breakfast. Husband and I enjoyed it with some honey dew melon left over from a couple of days ago. Lunch was the same turkey and cheese sandwich - I'll not buy a whole pound of sliced turkey again for just the two of us. Eating the same thing for lunch every day gets a little boring. Tonight we had leftover inside/outside burgers and baked garlic- herb fries. We're both doing well at not having too many cravings.

The exercise is tougher. The strength training exercises are too hard for me right now; I do the best I can, but a couple of them I cannot do at all. So I substitute. Even so, yesterday was very busy, and I got no exercise. Today is better. But it's the same old cardio - recumbent stationary bike with a bit of walking. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

emoticon Congratulations to all who sticking to the plan!

So I got in some different cardio after all!! The hubby pumped up the tires on my bike, and I rode it down the road and back. It was only a 10 minute ride, but man am I rusty. I heard my thighs squeal, lol.

Toni, the mac and cheese was good. I would use a sharper cheese next time.

Oh, I just had the apple tart dessert, and it was awesome! I had a little wiggle room in my plan today (I skipped the beer) so I had it with just a spoonful of vanilla ice cream (low sugar double churned) and it was divine!

Is calorie banking frowned upon or is it okay. I skipped the beer and apple tart today with the intention of having two pieces of the fruity French toast in the morning. I've never been a biscuit and gravy person and it seems like it would be a lot if work but I do love French toast (day 14 plan).

I had left over panko fish for lunch today so I had the BLT for dinner. The Mac and Cheese actually didn't make it into my personal meal plan until Day 14. How did it turn out for those of you who made it?

SAWYERSMOMMY: Hang in there. Remember, YOU are worth the effort!

Day 5: This was an easy day to prepare meals. I switched breakfast to the Strawberry smoothie recipe, but followed the plan for lunch, dinner and one snack (minus the beer). The Mac and Cheese was different with the beans, but I enjoyed it anyway. I have a lot of left over food, so I shared some of it with my elderly neighbors. I explained the challenge and that this was the first time I made these recipes. They said they enjoyed the meals, but I think they were being polite. Well, on to Day 6! emoticon

I wish there were some magic words or wisdom I could give you to get past the weekend and traveling. Unfortunately I am trying to figure out how to conquer this myself. My plan is to go for a walk, read success stories or call someone if I end up wanting to eat between meals or start craving stuff. I tend to binge when I get bored. This is new to me and I am a horrible emotional eater, so am hoping to control myself.

As far as traveling, that is another tough one. I always felt free to eat anything I wanted and as much as I wanted when on business (since I wasn't paying for it), hence part of the reason I look the way I do now. Of course the normal advice would be to make healthier, more sensible choices...easier said than done naturally. Maybe if you make a goal to post what you honestly eat everyday on this site, that will help you make better choices. Just knowing all the other Spark Solution Team Members will read it may give you the incentive you need.

I wish I had better advice. I will be anxiously awaiting how it goes for you!

The Mac and Cheese was good. I liked the sauciness. Needed a little more cheesy flavor, and possibly some black pepper (which I sprinkled on top at my plate). Dinner picture in my blog.

I got my biscuits made, but they look kinda flat. I know I will eat them, but I am debating making canned ones for hubby in the morning.

We will have the 'apple pie' shortly, maybe I'll post a picture if it looks nice.

Day 5 - Had Gorton's fish for supper tonight. Had sauted summer squash, zucchini squash, and green pepper with herbs and garlic in place of a potato seeing as how the fish was breaded. Also had cucumbers, tomato, and a radish. For dessert I had DelMonte pears and peaches (1/2 cup). Crystal Light Peach Tea for my beverage. Dishes are done and next is a mile walk around the park with hubby and the puppies. Still short on protein and carbs so I think I'll make myself a protein/fruit smoothie. Sounds like a plan to me!!

Day 5... I have never gone this many days in a row where I have tracked all my food and knew my calorie range.. it's all about planning. I haven't really been following the menu lately, just having left overs from Tuesday and Wednesday (I'm not sick of them so why not). I do not work tomorrow or Sunday (first days of since April 1) so I am going to be a planning machine and make next week even better, while trying new foods since I have time.

Have a great Friday Night!

Somehow I completely botched up the Mac & Cheese (chalk it up to not enough cooking experience). Dinner was edible (thankfully), but certainly not appetizing at all. My children, bless their little hearts, told me that it was okay...we could just try again tomorrow. And you know what? I think we just might do that.

Aside from dinner, I have been doing great. Going through my usual 'blah' mood, but I have my inspiration taped right next to the TV on the wall...very hard to miss.

Getting ready to enjoy the weekend now.

I have been sidelined by a migraine, med issue. Yesterday, I did the st, even with a migraine and felt better. today, I took meds and slept. I haven't ate yet. maybe the BLT for dinner. maybe the chicken casear salad. I've had to mix the meals around. I did eat the beef for the burgers, and felt bloated. I am not used to beef, next time I'll use turkey.

50 minute bike ride out in the Ohio sun after work and then the Better BLT for dinner. It was SO good, but awfully messy. Was my dressing supposed to be that watery? I'll have to find a way to thicken that up before I try taking it to work with me. Feeling motivated tonight but Saturday and Sunday at home are bound to present temptation.

Sawyersmommy - - Hang in there!! Don't give up! It will all come to pass. Even if the scale doesn't go down, which sometimes it doesn't, the inches are apt to come off. To me, the inches, the way I feel, and my health are more important than that darn scale!! Eventually, though, the scale will have to catch up. If not, it must be broke so get yourself a new one. LOL. Be sure that you're measuring your food and tracking whatever might go into your mouth. With you now doing the zumba and all the other things that you have decided to start, the inches will come off. Drink lots and lots of water!!! You don't want to get dehydrated!! You don't want to over exercise either. 63# is a lot of weight - - congratulations!! Keep up the good work.

I'm enjoying the plan. I've been in a 2+ month plateau and have been unable to get under the 260 lb mark. I just started exercising about 3 weeks ago but I've gained 5 pounds even though I've stuck to my eating plan. Ugh it's extremely frustrating and so tempting to just quit, but I've come this far and I don't want to go back. I'm really hoping this plan will help me jump start my weight loss again, so I can get and stay motivated. I'm trying really hard to not get on that scale until Monday, but it's tough. If I get on it early and there is a gain or no loss, I know I will quit, so I am resisting.

I lost my first 60+ lbs by just changing my eating habits. I was literally a blob in my recliner and didn't move, but lost weight anyway. That is until 2 & 1/2 months ago when the weight loss stopped.

Three weeks ago I discovered an "old lady" Zumba class at a local gym I decided to join. I do NOT dance. I have NO rhythm whatsoever. I am uncoordinated and clumsy but I decided to give it a try. Best decision EVER!! Absolutely love it. Since then I have gained a new confidence and have also taken low impact aerobics, strength training and range of motion, line dancing and even a belly dancing class. I may look ridiculous, but I have gotten over the way I look and just concentrate on having fun and burning calories. I look ridiculous now, but another 100 pounds from now I won't care what I look like today! I still want to try chair yoga and a mat class that they offer as well. I swim almost everyday which is definitely a good workout because I chase my 5 year old around!! I never...and I do mean NEVER... thought I would enjoy exercising. I actually can't wait to go to class 4 days a week and swim most days. I feel like I'm living life instead of wasting away.

Well off to move around in the pool until dinner time!!

Had a bit of a rough evening last night- went to a family function where we ordered in pizza. I ate WAY too much. I blame it on the fact the pies were cut into squares instead of slices- it seems like you can eat and eat and eat them and never fill up! Felt bad and guilty, so of course I ate two slices of cake and then ice cream!

Today I'm focusing on shrugging it all off and moving on. We're eating out for dinner so I'm going to order a healthier entree and box up half for lunch tomorrow.

Stay positive.
Do not give up.

I love that you added "good" things in our diet. I used to vilify foods, but then I learned moderation. I believe anything in excess is going to be bad for me. I'm looking forward to the chocolate. emoticon

I did Walk Away the Pounds today. Not my favorite cardio, but I do enjoy it somewhat. It go me moving. I prefer Zumba which I did on Monday and then the elliptical, which I did on Wednesday. I was going to try and do it first thing this morning, but being a SAHM and also homeschool, some days run away with me. That is my excuse, tomorrow I will just do it.

I've never been a big BLT fan so I made my own variation--my favorite toasted whole wheat bread, guacamole, red pepper spread, turkey bacon, sliced heirloom tomatoes and spinach. Measured and tracked all the ingredients for a total of 315. And I had blackberries instead of strawberries.

My all time favorite SparkPeople blog was from Coach Nicole a few years ago when she ran the Krispy Kreme Challenge, a race where you run 2.3 miles, eat a dozen donuts and run 2.3 miles back. She wrote:

"I guess I've lightened up more over the years, especially as I've learned to accept my imperfections and balance out my healthy habits with my not-so-healthy ones. But to me, the Krispy Kreme Challenge is all in good fun. Healthy living is important. Eating right is important. Exercising is important. But you know what's not important: Being perfect in these areas every single day. We also have to LIVE our lives and enjoy ourselves! Too often, people become way too obsessed with being healthy. In my experience, these "health saints" judge others with a healthier-than-thou attitude, much like the lady who yelled at the runners from the sidelines. I don't feel sorry for anyone who joined this race; I feel sorry for her for being too obsessed with health and afraid of calories to join in on the fun herself. And I can say that, because I know what it's like to be that way—I've been there myself, and since I've overcome it, my life is so much fuller and happier."

I don't vilify foods. I find the moment I say they are bad, then that is all I want, lol. I admit that I didn't change up my cardio today. I did make sure to interval out my time on the elliptical though. It is so hard to pass up now that I have the machine so readily available to me these days.

I understand the concern some people have on here about certain food items like the bacon, but the truth is the moment you say these foods on inherently bad, then the harder it can be for someone to avoid them. No, they are not the best foods, but in good moderation can help spruce up what could be a rather dull meal. If you say they are bad, may make you actually start calling it a "diet" in the nasty sense. We know how that can turn out too. The purpose is knowing you can have your cake and eat it too with good common sense and the strong knowledge that healthy doesn't always have to mean boring and plain.

I hope everyone else is doing great today!

It is hard to believe that today is day 5. Day 3 and 4 were not great, though I was within my calorie range I was low on things like protein because I don't eat meat. It is really hard to get all that protein and not go over your calories.

I didn't take a picture of lunch today, so I'll just write about it here.

The better BLT was very good, I was looking forward to it all day.
There was no way that all that lettuce and tomato was going to fit on the sandwich thin, so I ended up with a bit of salad on the side, with the extra dressing too.
The dressing was good, and I would love to use it as a salad dressing in the future. But it was overpowering to the delicate avocado and bacon mix.
I only used one piece of bacon instead of 2.
I loved the avocado instead of mayo.

My strawberries were so nice and sweet too!

getting caught up on my reading got my book after the challenge started so ready for week 2 thanks for the stretching tips learned my lesson about not stretching. I am enjoying learning that we can have a variety of foods just have to learn how to plan and prepare them correctly. the desserts are a special treat. they were something I thought would be off limits.

I love that we get to have bacon. I used to vilify it, but I'm glad it's back to being my friend...in moderate quantities.

I will be doing an hour of Zumba tonight, followed by some good healthy stretching!

Had my first real egg this week for breakfast. Day 1-4was egg beaters. I've been trying hard to continue to keep my cholesterol in check now that it's in the normal range as well as my triglycerides. You should have seen my breakfast plate yesterday! I made an omelette with 1/2 cup egg beaters, 1 bacon crisp and crumbled, 3 slices of fresh mushrooms, green pepper, 3/4 oz 2% mexican cheese, 3/4 cup fresh baby spinach, and then 1/3 cup chunk pineapple in it's own juice (drained) with 3 large fresh strawberries on the plate, and then 1 100% whole wheat bagle with 1 TBS Smuckers SF Strawberry jam along with 1 cup of coffee. What a colorful plate that was and delicious too!!! I can't ever remember making a breakfast like that before in my life - - thanks SparkSolution!!!!

Did lots of new strength training exercises (I think I found new muscles) along with stretching and walking 2 miles.

SparkPeople was down a lot of yesterday so it put me way off schedule with inputting everything for the last half of the day so I didn't know why my calorie count was (protein, carbs, fat) but I did have a Blue Bunny 100 Calorie, N Sugar Added ice cream sandwich - - low and behold, I still stayed within my ranges!!!

All in all - - great day!!

I'm terrified for the weekend, on weekends I'm at home and at home I eat. A lot. Plus I have been craving refined carbs big time, I'm about at my breaking point. The problem is once I eat something I binge. I'm also traveling three days next week for work and won't have a kitchen from after lunch on Monday until dinner time on Wednesday, plus the conference I'm going to will be serving pastries and lunch. Sigh.

I was a little surprised, but happy, that bacon was included. It does make sense though as long as you don't overdo it. I've been doing pretty well but, like others, have changed up the meals a bit. I have always eaten breakfast (I can't get going without it) but I'm not a big Mexican food person so I've had oatmeal with fruit some of those days. The challenge will be the weekend, it's always my downfall. My son is taking us out for a belated Mother's Day dinner so I'll have to track things carefully.

I am not surprised by the inclusion of foods such as bacon. This has to be a lifestyle, so it wouldn't make sense to omit a certain food forever. we have to learn to limit them and when consumed that it is moderation.

I feel like I'm doing pretty good with the program so far. I've had to switch around the meal plan a little to account for eating leftovers and also to use food that I had bought already but I am following the general guidelines pretty closely and feel good about it. I'm looking forward to trying some new recipes this weekend plus my parents are coming up for a visit so that means a little more cooking and no leftovers.

I was unable to do the strength training yesterday so I did it this morning. I did do cardio yesterday and I plan on taking a brisk walk for lunch this afternoon with coworker. I will also walk to and from my son's concert tonight (another 40 minutes).

I had a munch attack last night while I was making dinner (my worst time for snacking). It cost me about 250 calories. I did track everything. I must have dinner ready to go when I get home to prevent this. Also, a light snack may help. I am concentrating on all the positives (tracking, exercising, drinking water, planning and not eating after dinner) and only learning from my mistake last night. I did more good than bad and that is what counts. This is my busiest time of year and I am doing great. If I can do it now then I can do it any time. emoticon

I'm loving the plan and cooking a lot more than I used to.

Today I did ellipical and at every 10 minute interval I planned to take a break, but something kept me going....I did the entire Jillian Michaels 30 minutes. WooHoo!

I did have a bit of a relapse last night....I over ate last night; not junk, healthy choices; but I went way over my calorie allotment.

Today's a new day and another chance to get it right.

Hmmmm Moderation is the key! That's a concept I am not used to - and a problem that has always thrown me off my game! It helps to know that I can have a variety of foods that were once considered taboo for "dieters" or considered unhealthy, as long as I am not consuming large quantities multiple days of the week! Woohoo

I am having a hard time eating breakfast within the first 2 hours of the day. I am used to eating breakfast but, usually 3 or 4 hours after I get up. I am working on that. I have stayed on track with the recipes and workouts even with unscheduled interruptions. I feel bloated though. I am assuming it is from all of the fiber that I am not used to. (fruits & vegies). I am not going to weigh until Monday to give it a full week.

Yes Coach, I am very surprised that bacon is on the meal plan. Bacon has saturated fats that promote heart disease. Not even Turkey bacon is suggested. If you say use it a a garnish as suggested, why use it all. A habit in my opinion that should be broken, What some people call a garnish is what I call a serving. I am also surprised that it is suggested to drop 2%milk for 1% milk but keep your bacon. Logic I do not follow.

I am enjoying the book very much and feel it is well written but I am not following the eating plan. There are some recipes I find appealing and will try. When I am done with the book I plan on writing an excellent review on Amazon.

It's working even though I'm adapting the meal plans, just staying within range and focusing on nutritious foods. I'm down 1.6 pounds for the week. Overdid the ST yesterday so my legs are sore, esp. the quads. In keeping with the advice of Spark People's email article this morning "How Much Exercise Is Too Much?" I'll have a light cardio day--probably a 30 minute or so nature walk along the San Francisco Bay Trail. Made a breakfast burrito this morning with a low carb tortilla and added veggies. Have an awesome day everyone.

I changed up the Mexican Breakfast Burrito into Huevos Rancheros with the exact same ingredients. See my blog for a picture.

Having a Latin American morning, with my spicy breakfast and Zumba exercise for 35 minutes. Zumba makes you move and sweat!

I cant wait for the BLT sandwich at lunch, it is going to be so good. I don't quite vilify foods, but there are foods like french fries that I know are not really going to help me reach my goals.

Haha, beer for a snack --- ummm, maybe not at the office. Maybe later, or maybe I'll just save that 100 calories.

I have an idea in my head that foods have a 'Nutrition Quotient', and that we should try to choose more foods that have a higher nutrition quotient. This is basically nutrition vs. calories. So I think cheese is fine, because it has good nutrition, even though it is a lot of calories; potatoes are pretty nutritious too, but fries really lower the quotient due to the added fat.

I must admit I was little surprised at some of the foods but I am loving it...WOO HOO! down 2.4 pounds. I realize some of it was probably water weight with me because I am a diet Pepsi addict and drinking the water has decreased my intake of soda which is another good thing. Love the program so far.

I wish I could say it was day 5 for me. I was traveling 3 days this week so I couldn't eat the meals on the plan, however I did make healthier choices. Problem is I'm out 4 days next week. Very difficult to follow if you can't cook your meals. I am looking forward to having a full week of following the meal plan. emoticon

But I have also made the cheesy chicken pouch and protein pancakes over the last 2 days. The Cheesy Chicken Pouch is leading the pack for greatness! What a great alternative to those frozed pocket sandwiches. Pancakes were real good too and easy!
Gonna make up a batch of the Alfredo broccoli pasta tomorrow. Have to plan to make when I know I can eat it till it's gone. The downfall of cooking for one. I am fine with eating the same thing a few days in a row but by the 4th day I'm done haha!

Fitness on track. Today zumba w/squats. Yesterday a 3 mile resrvation hike.

The first four days weren't easy, it took tons of planning and prep work plus more cash than I usually spend on groceries but waking up on day 5 to a scale showing -2.2 lbs makes it all worth it.

Good luck today everyone!

Good Morning, I was up extra early this morning (having gone to bed extra early last night) and decided to try to do some morning exercise. I didn't feel like walking on the treadmill but I felt energetic and wanted to move. So I cranked up the music and danced for about 30 minutes. I definitely worked up a sweat and hit the shower as soon as I was done my stretching cool-down.

Now I feel so much more ready to face the day. Maybe instead of the treadmill this afternoon, I'll try to take a walk outside.

To answer the question, I don't think there are any "good" or "bad" foods it's all about how they are prepared (baked, broiled, deep-fried) and about portion control. I bought a kitchen scale last week along with a new set of measuring cups/spoons and I think it's something everyone should have in their kitchen. I can't believe how wrong I've been on portion sizes by just guessing. It's been a real eyeopener.

Have a great day everyone. I'll be back later. Right now I need to write my blog for yesterday since Spark was down last night.

Do not post in this thread until Day 5 (May 17).

Are you surprised that certain ingredients (like bacon) are a part of our plan? Why? Do you tend to "vilify" foods, labeling them "good" or "bad"? We hope our Spark Swaps meals are helping you to dispel those labels.
Today you are supposed to do 20 minutes of cardio. What kind of cardio did you do? Did you break it up or do it in one chunk? (And are you remembering to stretch? If you need some ideas, here are SparkPeople's favorite stretching demos: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/
