I don't understand, Lizbethjayne. I think you handled your birthday marvelously. Scallops are so low in calories, & you must be a superwoman to eat potato with no butter or sour cream! Wow. Maybe my view explains why it's taken 2 years to lose 50 pounds. I do want to speed it up for the next 40, so I need to think more like you do.

Not to worry! Sometimes life happens. In the grand scheme of things, one slip-up (even if it WAS monumental) doesn't matter. Maybe it will slow your progress by a few days, that's all. What DOES matter is getting right back up and continuing this Spark challenge. No need to hang your head in shame!

Day 5 (June 28) late entry:

It was my birthday and it was an epic fail (Hangs head in shame). I took apples and a wedger/slicer to work along with caramel dip for those people that have to have sweeter. I was pretty proud of myself.

My dear friend and coworker brought me in a cake, one of those special, cream between the layers yummy special sheet cakes. I ate a small slice and intended to stick with my plan. Than I had another. emoticon

Then things got crazy (I'm a nurse) and I ended up working 1 1/2 late. I got out, checked my cell phone and my daughter left a message that she had made reservations for dinner to celebrate my birthday and so I could meet her new boyfriend. I raced home to get ready and headed to the restaurant. I ordered scallops, a baked potato and a side salad. I didn't butter my potato, and I removed the scallops from the breading before I ate them, but I ate too much.

I'll just keep trying. Sooner or later all this logging on and reading everyone else's post has got to sink in, right?

Having trouble keeping up with posting. I am doing well though on the plan. I'm learning to make healthier choices when I can't or won't go with the meal written in the book. Today I walked both with the dog in the morning and later at night with my husband.

Just doing the next thing,

A little late, but I took last night off from the computer. I definitely think there are foods I shouldn't be eating if I want to get and stay healthy. I do like the fact that everything can be good in moderation. Our cardio was walking our darling beagle.

I did alright. Late night (midnight as my son just WOULD NOT go to sleep.) I started getting peckish as it had been almost 5 hours since I'd eaten last. Made the better decision though. Lentil soup w/ a 1 oz bag of Fritos for crunch, water, and 2 oz of block parmesian. Yum yum :).
Got me really close to my top end limit but I didn't go over! Woohoo. I am having some problems with the excersice parts of the program. It's 107 here in Sacramento and it's playing hell with my MS.I'm trying for small NEAT times but it's not going well.

Good luck today on your goals folks. You can do it!

Day 5 for me went great! I find that I am making smarter choices when eating out lately which is great but I still struggle with that part of me that wants to eat the stuff I know I don't need (chocolate, cookies, pie, cheesecake, etc). I did not give in to the cravings yesterday but I am waiting for the day when I no longer have these cravings does it ever come?

Day 5 did not go exactly as planned for me.....I had to work early so I did not get my workout in. I did fine on my breakfast and lunch meals.....but after work the social part got me. Went for a quick beer at a local microbrew with my husband.....we ran into several friends....which turned into a couple of beers. I know that really messed up my calorie range....and no workout.... double wammie. I will definitely have to be more aware in social situations......maybe do some sparkling water or something. As for food....I don't really think of food as being bad but I do think that some foods are a trigger for me that I need to be cautious about. For me that is desserts and sweets. The one thing I have noticed this week is that when I am eating a balanced meal I don't even think about sweets. That is a big deal for me.....because I think I was addicted to sweets. Well on to day 6.....I know I will do better.

What a great Day 5. I did a 40 minute low impact latin dance video -- luckily no one home to see how awkward I was, but I certainly had fun. Then I headed outside to mow. I was feeling so good I mowed half of the neighbor's lawn. He is single and works 2 jobs plus is always looking to time to spend with his kids. It just felt so good to be moving!! I know he appreciated it.

Day 5 = June 28 2013

My stats for the day are

weight
298.5

Blood pressure
124 / 69

Pulse
75

Glucose
6.8

Day 5 has been a good day even though we got a late start on the eating. Finding I stay full between each meal which is nice - and not having any cravings.

Getting in a lot more water than ever before so that is a plus. I gave up lemonade as of Sunday and so far so good.

Exercise is the challenge for me -and now we are getting a heat wave and we don't have air conditioning in the house so am not sure how I will do - but am working on getting some in each day. I tire easy due to my height / age / and weight and health problems so using walking as the form of exercise means I have to go in small stages - but am pushing forward and looking forward to the day where I can walk for 15 - 20 minutes at a good pace with no stopping.

Question re 'bad' foods - all foods are allowed if eaten in moderation. I agree with that in theory but I know of some foods that I have had to give up completely. For instance pop - I gave that up January 2012 and haven't had any since - and don't plan to. No nutrition value for one thing. But the big thing for me is that if I have one bottle, I want two and then three and so for - sort of like someone with a drug or drinking problem. So the solution is not to have it all. Another is chocolate. I gave that up also on January 1 2012 and am so glad I did. I have had numerous people say 'chocolate is ok if you eat it in moderation' - that is the key - I couldn't - it was an addition that took over my eating. I could not go for just one square of bar or a small bar - needed to have the largest bar and sometimes 2 or 3 of them - and needed them every day. So I went cold turkey and will not have any in the future.

Funny thing about chocolate - hubby but some fiber 1 bars (100 calories per bar) and brownies (110 calories per bar) So thought I would try the browning- took one bite and had to spit it out - horrible - all I could taste the chocolate / cocoa in it - and even hubby said it tasted like putting a spoonful of sugar into the mouth.

So I don't believe there really is any bad food but if there is a food that triggers a person to eat more of anything when they don't need it then I believe they should stay away from it.

Had the Southwestern Chicken and Rice last night (hot hot from the chili but it was good as we like hot food) and then the rest as leftovers for tonight.

Am enjoying trying the different meals and as there are 3 of us and most of them are for 6 that means we have leftovers the next night - saves some on the grocery bill doing it that way.

I continue to look forward to starting the 2nd week of this challenge and to see just what weight I will have lost and other changes from just 2 weeks.

I can see that I will continue with this program after the 14 days as I am doing so well with it now .

I tried the Baked macaroni and cheese and was terribly disappointed. I feel like I am wasting beans to only use 1/2 cup and then the flavor and texture was noticably diet. My DH ate it, but I can assure he won't finish it and neither will I, so once again wasted food.

I can't eat bacon or sausage without side effects, mainly looking for chocolate, so I stuck with my normal diet routine. My cardio for the day was chasing a 2 year old at the zoo. Then I stretched my sore back.

I am seeing the effects of giving up chocolate since I am less swollen and feeling more energetic on a regular basis. I always find that the reason I am eating the stuff is the same problem it is causing. Rather ironic.

Day 5 wasn't my best. I'm journaling to reinforce lessons so I can do better next time. Tomorrow should be a very busy and active day including meals out. I'm planning a breakfast splurge and healthy light eating the rest of the day.

Have a great day 6 All!

I got 30 of cardio in today. I didn't do well with my eating at all. I didn't eat enough for breakfast. I had yogurt and some berries which you would think would be enough but I always feel hungry a couple hours later and I didn't eat lunch. A no no. Day 6 is going to be a better day.

Well here we are on Day 5! Life Interrupted is still at my house but did better with it today. I didn't follow the Spark Solution menu but I did eat & track my foods very well. I walked a lot today also. I hoped to do even better tomorrow!

UCANGOME, Sometimes I feel that way too when people comment on my weight loss. It's like I don't know how to take a compliment or something... I try to brush it off like it's no big deal, but it is a big deal! I've worked hard to lose 20lbs! Other times, it's almost like I feel people notice & are thinking, it's about time... she really needs to lose weight!

It's hot here today (or at least for the Pacific Northwest), but I knew it was going to be warm, so I did my walk right after breakfast. It makes me feel good to have that activity checked off the list so early in the day.

Snoopy I too made bad choices today. I also kept them noted on my tracker, drank my water, and noted why I made the choices to prepare better for the next time. I'm back on track and planning tomorrow's success.

Happy end of day 5!
I LOVE bacon! It's a must for weekend breakfasts at my house! ;-)
I didn't do so hot today but am very thankful for the food tracker! I used it all week and today learned that when eating out I make horrible choices! :S
I did get in 30 min. of cardio and a 15 yoga abs video and I mowed part of our lawn.
Thankful for what I learned today and can't wait to see what day 6 brings!

I think one of the best tips from this plan is knowing that foods aren't good or bad (And that you're not good or bad or making a wrong choice, just not a healthy one).

Unfortunately, I made less healthy choices today. But...I watched my portion size, I documented it. And I am still drinking my water.

I really like the Baked Mac & Cheese. It's so filling.

One thing I am starting to struggle with is feeling hungry more frequently.

I have been getting up and eating breakfast around 5:00am! Then I go to the gym. I am pretty good till about 8 and then I get hungry and nibble on healthy snacks, then I am hungry again between 10:30 and 11.... and then I get hungry again- so now I am struggling with making meals like I have typically done, or starting to move to lots of mini meals- which I don't think they hubby is going to like.

I think some of the food that we are allowed are good! I have really put in my mind that nothing is bad in moderation! So I can still enjoy my favorites without feeling horribly guilty.

Too busy of a day, as usual I started with my water, vitamins, good breakfast and 2 miles with Walk Away the Pounds. Really enjoyed the Mexican Breakfast Burrito, added some hot sauce to add a little extra bite. I also mixed the cantaloupe with some plain greek yogurt just to add a little something. Did not have time to make the Macaroni and Cheese so I guess I need to save that for another day.

My day got really busy so I had to keep everything simple and on the fly; I do feel good so overall I guess it was a good day. Hopefully can get back to a routine tomorrow.

I really don't care for yogurt so today I took a Greek yogurt vanilla and blended it with 3/4 cup of frozen sliced peaches and it was awesome!
So I got my yogurt in and a serving of fruit and it was a treat
Next ill try berries which I don't care for alone emoticon

I did my hour of cardio this morning - first thing. I walked quicker to get a better workout. By working out in the morning it's easier for me to complete my weekly workout numbers. It's the calorie range I struggle with. I do good for a few days and then break in a moment of weakness - usually stress. I do still feel I am labeling "good" and "bad" food because when I want something in a moment of weakness I don't just have one to get over the craving. I think it's more than a craving. I need to find a way to work on that. I had two small Sam's brownies last night. I knew I shouldn't because it was a "bad" food, but wanted it because it was a "bad" food. I had one and knew it was bad and so to punish myself, I had two. Does that make sense? I really need to find a way to change my way of thinking about food. emoticon

I am so glad I packed a healthy lunch and snacks for jury duty today! They brought in lunch while we were deliberating--ugh. I would have ended up with a salami sandwich (yuck), chips (not in my plan right now), soda (don't care for it), and a cookie (who knows how many calories?). But because I planned and logged my food I am right on track for today! Go me! Love the Spark Solution!

Very pleased to say that my motivation and spark are going strong into Day 5. I haven't strayed from my calorie range at all and am feeling really good about where I'm headed. I can't believe I was able to get up early every morning this week as that's always been a problem for me. I'm going to challenge myself to do the same going into week 2.

Day 5 has been a good day! I did not have to paint today, so I was better able to manipulate my schedule. I ate pretty well (LOTS of cold watermelon) and hubby and I walked a 5K for our local mammography unit this evening. My time wasn't the best (about 55 minutes), but since I haven't really been doing anything physical besides painting, I'm happy.

Today has been a great day! This morning I did 45 minutes of cardio; then one of my friends and I took our grandsons to the water park, where we swam and splashed around for several hours.... Lunch- BK Apple Cranberry Salad with Grilled Chicken-no dressing or blue cheese with diet coke. Dinner- Mcdonald's Happy Kids Meal- nuggets, 100 calorie fries, apple slices, finished with low fat ice cream in a dish and a large diet soda..Still have lots of calories remaining! All in all good day!! (I did drink TOO much diet soda :) ) Also have had 14 cups of water today!!!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Today has been tough. My family and I went to the city last night, with more activities today. The hotel breakfast was not suitable for our family (food allergies), so we ate out for breakfast--BIG calorie bomb. My oldest and youngest and I did go to the aquarium and walked around for a couple of hours. I think that I pulled something in my quads earlier in the week, and my legs have been really sore, so I haven't been able to do the strength exercises and cardio has been a challenge.

Tomorrow will be a better day, though! Back home, ready to get back on track!

I know that God won't give me more than I can handle. I just wish He didn't trust me so much.

emoticon everyone! Lookin' good!!!

Today went well for me! I did a circuit class at the Y first thing this morning & have stayed in range (for the most part). For some reason, I'm over in proteins (but it's been that way most of the week). I haven't followed the food plan in the book for a couple of days & hope to return to making a few recipes this weekend. I had a big dinner party on Wednesday & have been eating leftovers (all healthy options). I made a salmon recipe from SparkPeople & it was delish! Tasted even better today!!! Prior to the challenge, I'd been eating healthy, just not weighing & measuring my portions. The Challenge is putting me back on track w/portion control & of course, tracking my meals! I notice that when I'm in a rush & need something fast, I go back to my old ways, like for breakfast today...I had a greek yogurt w/raspberries & walnuts. Not a bad breakfast, except that I weighed my nuts & fruit instead of "eyeballing" 'em. And lunch was a big salad w/chicken, feta, black beans, & avacado! It was delicious & very satisfying! Again, measured everything so I could record my portions.

Alright fellow Sparklers...keep up the good work! And keep moving forward!!!

Day 5 is almost done. I am tired but still trucking. I did a fast walk for my cardio today and bettered my usual time by about two minutes. I ate my second breakfast cookie this morning and the BLT for lunch. The mac and cheese was pretty good, but I will get a stronger sharp cheese the next time to get a cheesier taste. I am a little hungry tonight, so I will have a milkshake as my snack to fill myself up.
Can't wait to jump on the scale and see exactly how am doing. I usually weigh in on Sunday, but my official weigh in will be Monday.
I am planning to make and save lots of meals so I can take them on my RV trip on July 8th. I figure if I have the food with me I am much more likely not to go to far off my plan.
Grandma
P.S. I think that the cloudy/rainy weather might have something to do with the tired feelings I have. The sore feelings are the workouts. They are working.

Good day today. Got up early for a 30 min step video. Still eating the leftovers from Mon. I think it multiplies in my fridge. 6 meals out of it so far and still over a cup left! Weight for other challenge has me down 3.5 since Mon AM (tho it could be 2 pounds up tomorrow. Hate scales). I wore a skirt I could not wear 2 weeks ago so that is awesome.
Off to the races in Watkins Glen with book, running shoes, ipod, and breakfast cookies.

I never try to make a food off-limits. It keeps me from gorging on it later, because I know I can have that small bit of whatever, as long as I keep it in moderation. I also find that I stay a bit happier knowing I can have my "comfort" foods.

I did my chunk all at once. Doing the 5k plan helps me out there. Inching close to 2 miles in 30 minutes!!

I am not really surprised that no foods are off limits. And I am glad! As soon as I tell myself I can't have something, that's all I can think about. I do have trigger foods that I try to stay away from, OR I'll only buy a small amount so I can't overdo it (like I want to). I haven't done cardio yet, they are calling for more rain, so it will probably be another dance/exercise video. I still have trouble getting myself to do the strength training.

So glad to see that I'm not the only one frustrated. Sorry, for all of us, but glad we're not alone. My homemade banana bread and a trip to Lemonberry put me over my calories by about 400 calories Yesterday. This morning I ran, hard and fast, and felt very strong. Went to Panera for lunch with a friends. Knew I shouldn't have eaten that dang piece of bread that came with my veggie soup. Next time I will ask them to not even put it on the plate. I didn't need it. Would have been perfectly satisfied with the 1/2 sandwich and soup. Then, I picked at my kids' lunch when I came home (2 cold, gross chicken nuggets), and ate one of the beef smokies I bought for my husband while I was out. So, here I sit, right before dinner, at 1300 calories.

I had a dream last night that some fairy came to me (my daughters watch Disney fairies...it looked like one of them, LOL), and she told me that I've been shortchanging myself on protein. Now, I'm not one to put much stock in crazy dreams, but I'll not completely discount it either.

So - I'm going to buck up, have the "philly steak sandwiches" recipe for dinner with NO BREAD (because I already had more than I should have at lunch). I'll go easy on the cheese, lots of veggies and lots of water.

Wish it wasn't raining right now, so I could go for a walk. Maybe it will stop after dinner, and I can splash in the puddles. If not, I'll go walk a bit on the treadmill and think long and hard about today....and yesterday.... because after all, it's a journey we're on here, right????

I'm still down about 4 lbs since the beginning of the challenge. But this is the weight that I usually get 'stuck' at for a while, or creep back up again.

I feel tired today - I think it is from the workouts. I have a streak now of 8 days in a row - that from none whatsoever. Def gonna take that rest day Sunday!

Yesterday afternoon something happened that upset me & got me down. I SO wanted to order pizza for delivery and sit and eat and watch a movie....but I didn't, whew. I had the burgers on the menu, so I told myself once I ate that & the baked fries I'd be full & no longer crave anything.

Well, when I went to make the burgers I found that my ground beef was frozen solid! Even after 2 days in the fridge. My fridge is packed now, so maybe it stays colder?? SO, I was frustrated again & had a mini-binge. I ate breakfast cookie #2 with peanut butter melted on top and brown sugar & Hersey syrup (light lol) drizzled on top. Later I had about a cup of the frozen yogurt...

I ended up being over by only a few hundred calories, as that replaced my dinner and evening snack.

This morning I was down 0.1 pounds - woot - so I didn't do much if any "damage."

Back to the fatigue - I am VERY sore from that darn AMAP yesterday. This morning I did SP's Cardio Blast DVD - the warm up and workouts 1 & 2 and the cool down for a total of 32 mins. First time I used the DVD and Nicole did a great job! It was fun (though painful due to soreness) and went by fast.

OK, I'm back to finish fixing my mower - wish me luck! emoticon

Was sick the last three days, so I didn't follow the plan, but I did eat very healthy: oatmeal, greek yogurt, wheat bread with low sugar peanut butter & jam, fruit. I was definitely under the calorie goal, since I didn't have much of an appetite. No exercise, but drank lots of water and rested. I hope I'll be able to follow the plan tomorrow; I'm feeling a bit better already.

day 5. frustrated today, very very frustrated.
I am very surprised by some of the ingredients included in the meals, it makes me really believe that you can eat what you want but it is all about moderation.
Did a core and scuplt class at the gym today like I do every friday, still sore from my spinning class yesterday I also did 20 mins on the elliptical but since 530 am this morning all I have been doing is running around and working along with every other day this week so it was nice to be done work at 3 today gives me a chance to relax and a head start on my meals for the busy weekend.

Did a three mile walk/run at a nearby state park this morning. It is a hilly loop course and for me a challenge but felt good to do it.
Mixing up the SP recipes and able to stick to my calorie count. Making the Panko fish tonight have had it once and it is very good.
Being able to check in with the SP couch and doing the forums has been very motivating for me. Have a great day 5. emoticon

I have to ditto Andrea's comment about loving the ease of adapting the eating plan. The breakfast burrito was fantastic and actually the second time I've had it this week. I had to adjust the Better BLT since I had a last minute errand which turned into a loooonnnngg time away from the house. I was able to sneak into my mom's and make a BLT with turkey bacon and sandwich thins. Tonight we will be having Day 1 dinner since DH has been asking for it since he saw the recipe. We didn't get to have it Day 1 since I was traveling.

I wasn't surprised to see the bacon in the plan but I do feel like certain foods are taboo. At least for me. I understand that you can have anything in moderation but some things (chips and queso) I can just not have around me.

I was actually able to do the 18 minute cardio sculpt boot camp video without falling on the ground crying because Coach Nicole hates me. LOL

I am very excited about this plan and happy that week 1 is coming to an end and I haven't given up and am looking forward to next week.

Really liked the breakfast burrito and better BLT, both delicious. I forgot my brother and sil are flying in today so will probably not make the mac & cheese for dinner as usually the whole family gets together for pizza or a cookout their first night here. Of course, if we do cookout then I can bring that as my dish ~ who doesn't like a homemade mac & cheese? emoticon

Today turned out to be a rarity so far this year: a day off work with no rain or storms so far, although it looks like we'll probably get hit on the drive back from O'Hare. So anyway, I finally was able to give my hedges the trim they so desperately needed and also managed to turn that 90 minutes of yardwork into a bit of a ST workout. A few lunges here, squats there, not to mention holding the trimmer high to get at the tops. Can really feel it in my triceps right now, lol.

I do think of potato chips, french fries, donuts, deep-fried anything as 'bad' foods; but I also think life is about balance and sometimes you have to treat yourself. My biggest eating weakness is snack foods. I can almost always resist sweets, but put me within reach of a bag of chips and I need a handful. This challenge, and tracking my food, has really helped me a lot with that. I still might indulge, but I measure out very carefully and only allow myself half a portion.

Day 5 already! I truly enjoyed the Mexican Burrito this morning and of course, the Better BLT for lunch! I love it that we can have the low sodium bacon in moderation. It is so crunchy and yummy! If I have learned nothing else on SP it is not to vilify certain foods as good or bad.

My cardio today will be another of Leslie Sansone's Walk way the Pounds videos (30 min in one chunk). I only have about 39 of her tapes and dvds! With my arthritis hers are a lot easier on my joints than some that I have tried. Also she includes warm up, cool down and stretching exercises as well as the cardio.

I like the Spark People ones as well, but there are a few that because of my weight, I still cannot quite handle. One of my long term goals is to be able to do them all.

I am looking forward to the Mac and Cheese tonight! It is very good!

I will make the Biscuits for tomorrow tonight.

Everyone keep pushing! emoticon

Andrea, I agree with you. I love to be able to change things up and still stay on a healthy program as well. I do, however, follow the challenge meals as close to 100% as I can. That makes it a real challenge for me. Oh, well whatever keeps us motivated!

The bacon did not surprise me, especially since it is such a small amount. I have found that the precooked bacon pieces in the salad dressing section of the store actually have less sodium than the low sodium bacon. I will use that in the future to save time. The only foods I tend to vilify are ones that I find gross anyway, like hot dogs and bologna. I know how they are made, and have no desire to eat them no matter what.

For cardio, I did 20 minutes of my Zumba flat abs dvd. I've made the mistake in the past of not stretching properly, and gotten really sore, so I'm careful about that.

I am still overly tired throughout the days. Even though I am getting 8 hours of sleep, I'm having trouble staying awake. This plan does not have the amount of freggies and fiber that I am used to, so I am feeling a bit deprived, and am getting constipated, which is dangerous for me due to past colon surgeries. It isn't dehydration, because I am drinking 64 oz of water before noon, about 64 between noon and dinner, then I don't even bother tracking what I'm drinking in the evenings cause I know I am well hydrated.

I went to bed way to late last night. So I'm tired this morning.

I had a bit of a shock that's thrown me for a loop and I'm sorry to say that my response was to do what I always do and comfort eat. Sigh. Never mind, as of tomorrow morning, I'l pick where I left off and start Day 6 with you all. I'll make different choices and not let a little slip become the end of all my hard work to create the life that I want.

I can honestly say that this go 'round is much easier. I am on Thursday and not nearly as exhausted from prepping food all week. This time I was a little more informed through experience to be able get some things ready ahead of time. I am looking forward to weighing in on Monday.

One thing that does throw me for a loop is when people start noticing my weightloss, I crack under pressure. I am determined to work through that. I feel so good and I can't imagine letting people noticing knock me down. I keep telling myself, "It's okay, it's okay." I don't know if anyone else experiences this. Anyway, I have been sticking with the program pretty much as written, but making small adjustments...i.e., had leftovers today for lunch instead of the BBLT.

My computer (router) continues to be on the fritz so I cannot access this from home--BOOO! I have a new router but haven't had time to get it up and running. Hopefully this weekend.

Take Care, Everyone!

Day 5 Going well so far, stayed up to late last night, so had a hard time getting going this morning. As far a villifying foods-- no too much on my part, when I´m sticking to plan I do better if I just stay away from baked goods. Portion control is my biggest down fall.

Yesterday went Well:

I had a Friend over for dinner so i swapped dinners from Day 3 & Day 4. My friend is not a Fish Fan LOL. I did notice that my calories were on the higher side Day 3 And Lower on Day 4.
Next time I have to swap meals maybe ill plan better.

The inside out burger and the Fish are wonderful.
I forgot to the Strength training Yesterday.... Oops but i walked over 5km, and woke up first thing this morning and got it done.

I've always been a coffee drinker up to 4 cups a day sometimes more. I find since starting this challenge I've cut back significantly, but now every afternoon from maybe 2 - 5 I'm exhausted with a headache. I purk back up after work but my head still kills me.

Any suggestions, I prefer not to take medication unless absolutely necessary.

Day 4 didn't go so well for me. I was feeling out of sorts physically; exhausted due to lack of sleep, aching back in addition to the "normal" fibromyalgia pain, and my ankle was screaming at me to stop torturing it. Every exercise I attempted seemed to be the wrong thing for my body at the time, so I ended up with very little "formal" exercise, but did log a mile on my pedometer from all the pacing I did from frustration lol.

I was also hungry for the first time since beginning this challenge. Maybe it's because, being 57 and post-menopausal, my calorie range is lower than what the meal plan provides, so my modifications may have been off, but there was definitely a lack of planning which likely was the main problem. Whatever the reason, I was hungry all day, and finally lost it around dinner time, when I didn't have the meal prepared because I didn't have the ingredients (due to lack of funds) and went into a feeding frenzy lol. I was seriously hungry, so decided to try to settle that down a bit before I began rummaging through my supplies looking for something to make for dinner (I REALLY should have planned this better), so I ate half an apple with 1 T of peanut butter. Still all good, but still STARVING. I saw a 2 ounce portion cup of hummus in my fridge, so I took that out to eat with 6 Triscuits - still on plan calorie-wise, but not in any other sense because both of these "snacks" were unplanned. By now I had used almost all of my calories, and was STILL hungry. Needless to say I went over my calorie range by about 500 calories by the end of the frenzy. I aim for 1200 and ate through close to 1700. Not the worst thing in the world, but a good reminder to make sure I have done my planning and prep!

Hi all!

Just had my breakfast burrito & I'm feeling good. I ate it slowly at the table with no distractions & remembering to chew thoroughly. That was a challenge cuz I ALWAYS multitask while eating unless I have company. It made me appreciate my food more & it sounds corny but I thought of people that don't have enough to eat and truly felt grateful that I do.

I don't really consider any food "bad," but the way I consume them can be bad - so obviously it's about moderation. There are crazy things out there though:

https://www.dunkindonuts.com/content/dun
kindonuts/en/menu/food/sandwiches/brea
kfastsandwiches/Glazed_donut_breakfast

I mean really, bacon on a donut?? That's just BAD lol. Are you trying to kill us DD? emoticon

Edit: I couldn't get the link to work..maybe copy & paste if you'd like to look. It's egg & bacon on a glazed donut!!

I am planning to ride my bike today (at the beach if I can convince hubby to rent a bike and ride with me or if not, in the neighborhood) for my cardio. emoticon

Mexican breakfast burrito is good!

I LOVE the BLT. Not surprised that bacon is used. Well, I was at first but according to the Spark motto "everything in moderation," right? The BLT is one of my favorites. YUM! emoticon

I won't be eating the mac and cheese tonight we are going out for my birthday! Yay! emoticon

Hi all!
Lost it a bit yesterday at dinner. Went out with a friend and although I was attentive to my food choices – a shared starter of boiled egg with a runny yolk and steamed asparagus to dip into it and half a portion of seafood risotto with salad, I drank more wine than I intended to – always my downfall and I hate the fact that I still consume all those wasted calories on top of which it causes a false hunger which meant that I had my usual mug of Horlicks light but with a roll and butter before I went to bed. The extras took me 120 over my calorie range - could be worse but really wasn't necessary.
So today I am chastened and got up early to do 20 fast minutes on the stationary bike and a lot of things that needed doing in the flat. I am about to go out and walk as fast and as long as I can by the sea. It’s raining but there’s nothing I can do about that. I’m coming back to do one more rep on the Spark Solution workout. I am determined to learn to do it with the best form I can manage.
I had the burrito this morning which I loved as I always do love Mexican style food, and the BLT for lunch which is definitely going to become a regular for me. REALLY enjoyed it. I love bacon and this way of incorporating it is such a good idea. Like someone else here I don’t regard any foods as bad (although wine is another matter!) just the quantity in which I eat them. I am learning a lot about tweaking recipes to have the foods I enjoy in moderation and also about the ways I need to push myself to fit in extra exercise. If nothing else I hope to have developed better habits by the time this Challenge is done.
Happy Day Five everyone. emoticon

I have noticed two things recently.... How hard it is to follow a plan exactly as written and how easy Spark Solutions makes things to adapt. I believe I will continue with this spark because I feel comfortable changing things up. Without being so rigid, there is no fail or mistake or being bad. I just go with the flow.

We are having last night's fish tonight, since we were out all evening. The recipe looks yummy.

I haven't been to the gym for cardio in three days but I have made sure I am getting my daily walking in, and yoga or strength training. Gym tonight for sure.

What we think about and thank about, we bring about.

I am not surprised we can eat bacon. I think we can eat anything in moderation. To eat right for the rest of our lives we will need to learn portion control.

For my 20 minutes of cardio I did the treadmill. I am not good about stretching it is something I have to work on.

Good morning early birds and hello to everyone else today! Up at the crack of dawn (as usual) and off for my walk. Since the dog was slowing me down (!!!) I took him for a small walk, dropped him off at the house and went on for my power walk time! That felt really good. I'll walk the kids to camp and back (another 2 miles) and then get to work for the day.

Yesterday's meals were good and I got taken to lunch. Selected a large strawberry and arugula salad with goat cheese for lunch that was FABULOUS and fit well within my calorie limits. The kids wanted ice cream and water ice and funny enough, I found I didn't! So took them and chose not to order any for myself!

Here's to hoping you all have a wonderful, Sparked day!

Good Morning all,
For me this is the hardest part, logging in.
I LOVE the Spark Solution!!! Ok, I don't follow it to a tee, but I am still losing!!! The hard part is finding the time to do a blog, but hopefully I will soon.
I started out doing the exercises that were there, then I decided to just do what I wanted. So I have been doing a half hour of kettlebells. For meals, breakfast I love the first breakfast that is listed, but I have changed it. High fiber tortilla, about 10 or 12 spinach leaves, 1/2 C. mushrooms, onions with 1 lg. egg scrambled, with 3 tsp. of homemade salsa. I have eaten this most mornings since the first challenge. I made the one dish southwestern dinner and have eaten that for lunches and dinner. I love it!! My husband doesn't, but I don't mind. I still have my wine at night and am still losing. This is awesome!!! I don't make it to Spark Coach only about once a week, but I am trying harder to get there more this week.
Thanks everyone!!!

Well day 4 ended up not being so good, maybe I burned myself out with the interval training on Wednesday. There's such a fine line between pushing yourself and overdoing it! Anyway, I stuck to my calorie range (I've been mixing up the meal plans), but didn't do my ST, I was too sore and tired.

Today is going much better though, I did 30 minutes of Kettlebells (Paul Katani's Kettlebell Drills is awesome! I just did the Clinic, which shows you the moves, and you practice them, and it was a great workout!), and will possibly go cycling later, if the rain clears. I've been sticking within my calorie range, and within my protein, carb, fat, etc. ranges, so I'm quite happy with that.

I'm going to hold off weighing until Monday, to give it a full week, to see how much I've lost, but I do feel better, and my belly feels a bit flatter, so I'm already seeing/feeling results.

Happy Sparking Everyone! Have a great Day 5!

Good Morning,

Day 5 looks to be a good day. I've already done my cardio this morning - 25 minutes on the treadmill and it's only 5:30 am. I hope I can make this a habit. I'm having a rough time at work right now and I've been stressed and starting to go into a depression. Most mornings I'm dragging and dreading going to work. But this morning I feel energized and have a "whatever will be, will be" attitude.

I don't think I consider any foods "good" or "bad". I think most anything is okay in moderation. But it also depends on the way it is prepared, whether it is roasted, broiled, fried, etc.

I won't be doing the mac and cheese tonight as we are heading out of town right after work and will find somewhere to eat on the way. If we stop to eat at our usual place, I'll be having a nice garden salad with a piece of broiled haddock. For those of you sticking with the plan and having the mac and cheese tonight, you're in for a treat. It is really, really good. It's one of my husband's favorite recipes from the book and he is a real finicky eater.

Have a great Day 5 everyone. I'll try to stop in later if we have internet access at the hotel. I do have a smart phone, but wonder how the heck can anyone read stuff on that little screen?

Do not post in this thread before Day 5 (June 28).

Are you surprised that certain ingredients (like bacon) are a part of our plan? Why? Do you tend to "vilify" foods, labeling them "good" or "bad"? We hope our Spark Swaps meals are helping you to dispel those labels.
Today you are supposed to do 20 minutes of cardio. What kind of cardio did you do? Did you break it up or do it in one chunk? (And are you remembering to stretch? If you need some ideas, here are SparkPeople's favorite stretching demos: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/
exercise_
demos.asp?exercise_type=stretch
)
Make Tomorrow Easier
While the mac and cheese is baking, mix up the Better “Buttermilk” Biscuits
dough (page 218) and roll them out. Bake them while you’re eating dinner.
The oven will still be hot, so it won’t take long to preheat.
