Lou, have you tried a cat cage in a small room? Usually with the cage there is food put inside, and the release closes the door, when the cat enters. It doesn't harm the cat. You can often borrow a cage from Humane Society or SPCA.

Yes, currently without any pets, I don't need to worry on planning for their care, if anything happened to me. As I mentioned, when I did have animals - cats, dogs, fish and bird - then friends and family would have stepped up. I know though, many who do have it written into their wills, along with money to assist with the care of the pets.

If you have no pets, planning care for them after you die is a moot then, isn't it?

Trapping her in a small room sounds fine in theory but hasn't worked.

Lou, as was suggested, can you not trap the feral cat in a small room? If you truly cannot find her indoors, you could put in a cat trap, just as you would for an outdoor cat.

As for will, I don't have a will, as it costs money which I don't have - one day I might break down and write one up. I don't own anything, have no assets and currently, no pets. I cannot have pets where I rent. When I did have cats, I had friends and family that would have stepped up, if anything had happened.

Here is a photo my 10 year old niece took of her cat Clover, so cute!!

No I am only 52 (53 soon) and I will probably outlive my cat. i don't want to think about doing that until I am in my 60s. The only people I would trust to see that my cat would be provided for in case I became deceased at the present time are older than I am--not even sure I trust them enough, either! I raise my cat I have to always be an indoor cat, and they allow their cats free roam outside.

I don't quite understand if the feral cat is inside why she is difficult to trap. Get her in a very small room like a bathroom or a walk-in closet, a laundry room or a pantry?

Still looking for ideas on trapping inside feral, maybe pregnant, momma.

How have you planned in your will for your cats after you are gone?

Sadly, I had to trap a feral cat outside that was very ill and take it to my local animal shelter. The cat was very sick and had to be put to sleep. I actually do not believe the cat was feral, rather homeless and abandoned. So the urge to be friendly was already there.

This is what I did: feed the cat outside once daily. Put the dish down and sit some distance away, and the cat should be very hungry and come out to eat. Leave a dish of water out for it as well. It should get used to you being there. The carrier was beside me but I did not use it. After about a week, a week and 1/2, I grabbed the cat by the back of the neck and got it into the carrier. I felt like the most evil person in the world, I was hoping that the animal shelter would have room for it and cure it, but this is not what happened. It was too sick to save.

I caught another cat in the same manner, about a 12-15 years ago. I did not have it tested for any disease, merely given shots etc and I adopted this cat. I could afford to have him tested for feline leukemia or be neutered. I chose to neuter him and hope for the best. I truly loved Bobby, but he had feline leukemia and only lived with me for 8 months before this disease took his life. I spent a huge amount of money on him and his various illnesses, but I kept hoping that feline leukemia was not what he had. He did.

Good luck, I don't know if this will help you or not.

Hi all ~~

I need suggestions on how to get an inside feral momma cat into a trap or a carrier so I can take her to be fixed.

In April I caught her from the colony I care for and several days later she had four babies. I have many other inside cats, one I took in when she was abandoned from next door when the people there moved. Bobbi, the cat, and I were friendly with each other from the times the former neighbors let her outside so she brought her four kittens up to be friendly, also. (Those four were adopted out.)

Thus, I had no idea that Pretty Momma, the inside feral, would raise her four babies to be feral. I have managed to get her two girls fixed, with their shots and blood tests, although one fought me terribly and still shies away from me as do Pretty Momma and her two boys. Only one girl follows me around the house and allows me to pet her but she screams if I pick her up. A little progress there, though, I guess.

I want to isolate the feral momma in a bedroom with a trap and the carrier and only feed her in those but with so many other cats and her two boys following her wherever she goes, that has been impossible so far.

Have you ideas on what I can try? I hope she isn't pregnant from one of her sons because I cannot have more cats here. I'm stressed trying to figure out something.

Thank you.

Lou, in Orlando, FL

We keep our cats indoors. We have foxes living near-by and I don't want my babies becoming a fox snack!! LOL They do love sitting in the windows when they are open and in the front door when it is open to watch the birds and squirrels.

My two fur-babies had company this week. Our son is here visiting and he brought his cat, Navi. There was a little hissing and a few paw swats...but, they are all getting along nicely now.

Happy Birthday to your son! Congratulations on being cleared by the doctor.

My cat Harleigh was not in a great mood yesterday but we made up with extra cuddles this morning. Have a wonderful first day of Spring! No matter your weather, have a sunshiny day.

What I would love to do is actually run an animal rescue. I know when I was volunteering at the animal shelter here there were so many cats that had too much catitude to be adopted. Some of them feral or on the verge of it. Or they had medical problems. And they would be there for over a year. Luckily they are trying to make most of the shelters now no kill. But there was nothing wrong with them that socializing, meds, and proper diet couldn't fix and I wanted to take them all home. There were a few dogs I would have taken also and I have a thing for...everything else pretty much. My step mom once told me that she thought God made animals just for me. Lol.

Dormantwillow, love the kitty names. Bless you for taking them in. I know what you mean about cats finding you, I have the same thing. Even a cat whisperer has knocked on my door because he felt I would know where a missing kitty was. PS No one told him about me, so I guess he was the real thing. LOL!!
My kitties are Chrisy Miss, got her Dec 18, 2002 she was 9 mos old. Sir Garfield got him when he was 3 yrs old Oct 31, 2012.

yesterday one of my cats, Luna decided she did not want to get off the bed so I could make it. So I put the fitted sheet on right over her. I peeked under to see if she wanted to come out, nope she liked being under there. So I proceeded to make the rest of the bed with her in it. I did leave a corner off so she could easily get out, but an hour later I came back and she was still sleeping in her "cave" lol

Bonnie, that is correct. I helped out a feral farm for years. Val could only put down a little can food in the winter. It gets cold and cats do not know it to be food. We got a lot of bags of hard food. If that freezes it will be the same problem so she only put that down in their Cat house. She converted an old chicken coop to a cat house, it even had plastic windows put in by her son.

Interesting information Linda. I did not know that cat cannot smell the food when it is cold. That was probably why my cats used to let the food sit on their plate for a few hours before eating it.

Prince is a true teenage boy. Always hungry, and loves the girls. I hope my schedule will allow me to take him to the vet next week. I don't guess he will get much bigger at this point. He haven't filled out anymore. Buddy is just as mellow as ever. He is enjoying being able to stay out on the porch at night and not be cold. We left them both in the care of a neighbor and Buddy still growls at her when she leaves. He wants her to stay and love on him more. She was going to film him doing this but she kept forgetting to bring the phone in.

I just remembered that I forgot to tell someone that cats cannot smell cold food. Learned this from Alley Cat Allies. Whenever I refrigerate food I nuke it for only a few seconds (never hot) and they will eat it. Ferals in the winter will only eat soft food in the first few minutes because they cannot make out that it is food. You must put down mostly hard food in cold weather.

Adopted Garfy at County Shelter on Halloween day 2012. He had just been fixed by them. A woman had been feeding him for over 6 wks and noticed he had a cold and weather was getting colder. Almost could not adopt him because they were about move him into ICU for treatment. He would have never made it out and you cannot adopt when he is in there. I promised to rush him to my vet. He was a sick little fellow for a few weeks. Guess he still does not know his equipment is gone, because he tries to mate with Chrisy (she is 14 and got fixed before she was 9 mos old) she will have no part of him. There is constant wailing from her and I have to run to her rescue. When I come home it seems as though all is fine so I guess I don't have to separate them. He seems to be afraid of going out, maybe he remembers the hard times out there. I do take him on the porch in the spring/summer time, but only in a cage. He could jump overboard. He loves his many trees parked next to my windows.

Life outside is quite a bit dangerous, and if I had raised them from babies they would be strictly indoor kitties. Buddy is very street wise Prince is learning caution from Buddy but your can't stop hormones and with it being Spring I'm guessing it was a lady cat somewhere.

Buddy just gets unbelievably depressed when forced to stay indoors. But he doesn't go very far when he goes out side. Mainly stays on the porch or with Hubby in the garage.

With Buddy being black I keep him indoors at Halloween time he hates those couple of days.

Last night Hubby got up to let Buddy out and Next thing I know He is meowing like crazy on the end of my bed. I could not fathom what was wrong. Buddy NEVER speaks. When I get the light on it was Prince!
With Buddy on top holding him down. Buddy wasted no time on reminding Prince he was Top Cat. Anyway he seemed to be no worse for the week he was missing. Not even any thinner as far as I could tell. I'm just wondering if someone had him and he escaped out an open door. Don't care, he's back. Now he will me neutered as soon as possible. No waiting till July. Buddy was licking his shoulder when I left them this morning. I hope he sticks around.

Keep in mind that all this happened at 1:30am in the middle of the night.

I seemed to have lost Prince. He has been gone since Friday night. He is either katting around after some female, taken in by someone else, dead, or who knows. I still have this little bit of hope he will return. Buddy did this to me once b4 he was fixed. Now he stays around. If I do get Prince back he will be going to the vet ASAP!

Prayers requested that he returns home to me.

Petsmart sells the best tasting cat grass per Chrisy Miss. But like Longlife says, the little containers at the registers is too expensive unless it's fall or winter and I can't grow it on the porch. They have a bag by a company that sells a lot of their toys, And as I said CM say's it's the best!!
Neighbors used to ask what I was growing on my deck, but after answering them with grass, only not the high kind, they now know me!!

Yep, Pets Mart near about always has grass and cat nip up near the registers. (live green stuff) but I was not paying $6.95 for catnip. I think the little bowl of grass is under $4.00. But, come on, its grass. I have found the grass kit over in the cat isle at Wal-Mart. (container, seed & dirt) about $3. But I think I found the seed at either Lowes or Wal-Mart. I cant remember. I was surprised to see the cat grass where ever I was. Just don't use treated lawn seed, it is the wrong stuff.

Cat Grass is Oats, Wheat, or Barley. These are the cheapest and most popular.
Pet store will have pre-planted dishes with the seeds that you can just water and grow it.
But it is cheaper to just buy seed. I go to my Co-op store or a Farmers store where they have seed that you can buy the amount you want.

It was a great vacation. The kitties enjoyed having us at home except during NAP time. I got some extra Buddy love from my oldest kitty. Prince has lots of fun outside. When we sat the plants out they both played hide and attack around them. I did get lots of planting done with more still to do. Didn't find catnip the plant but found the seed. Clipped, pruned, potted and built a bench. The botanical gardens were pretty. Not the best we have seen them but still worth the visit! Then we did all the shopping, making sure to get lots of Kitty Food! The craft festival was fun and My husband spent half the day visiting with old friends. Only thing it turned off COLD and I couldn't do what I wanted to do Sunday. But I did grill. Didn't want to go back to the real world. But I have to make the cat food money. emoticon

I hope to find catnip this Thursday. I have a 5 day vacation and hope to do some outdoor work. I hope to get the grill out and dusted off and have some yummie's! Grilled veggies and meat. We are going to a botanical garden for the spring tulip display. and if the weather hold out to a arts and crafts festival on Saturday. I found my lemon thyme today. The weather is going to turn chilly so all the plants will have to be tucked into the garage for a couple of nights.

This will give me at least 2 days of good walking exercise and hopefully 2 days of good yard exercise.

I have several houseplant that say they are poisonous to cats/children and so forth. Luckily the cats are smart enough to leave them alone even if children are not. It still gets me every time I hear about a kid drinking anything it finds under the sink. One we were told no, and that meant no. and two the stuff stank so I'm sure it tasted bad. and after that first nasty sip why would you drink more? Plus we new that stuff was for cleaning and we didn't want to get too close it anything that meant we had to do more work. emoticon

Anyway I've had 4 cats and none of them have ever done anything more than rubbed on the 2 plants I know for sure are toxic. Doesn't mean that just like people there isn't a cat out there that isn't too bright and might try. Thankfully I don't have to worry about any kids.

My biggest worry is they will get into antifreeze. I can't control that variable past my on cars.

You are so right. So many can make cats sick. I did lots of online research last winter so I would be ready for spring planting.
Here is a great site that list good and bad plants.

You have to be so careful that plants are not dangerous to kitties. So many are, so I just plant the kitty grass and catnip on my porch.

LOL, it is amazing what a person can find when you move furniture!!
And yes, I have a lot of fun planting things in my Catio for KoKo and CeCe. They are so funny because they do not like Catnip, dry or live. They also leave all of my herbs alone. They are so so with different grasses. But last year I planted a sunflower in a large pot. They LOVED chewing on those leaves!! Thank goodness it was a large plant, got up to 7ft tall!!

This morning I walk into the living room and bend down to get my shoes and low and behold there I fur everywhere. First thought was Prince destroyed a fake mouse. Then the brain kicks in and that's RABBIT fur! If that cat has dragged a dead rabbit in the house I will kill him. So hubby comes in and I have him check to see what is behind/under the chair where the fur trail leads. I can't see what he finds and he just says you will never guess. Off hubby goes to get the vacuum cleaner while I try to guess. Turns out, no dead animal, but a dead bag of bagels that has been there heaven knows how long. Prince had dragged them from the kitchen and hid them. He is a little stinker! Hopefully he knows now that he will never starve in our house and won't do that again. Prince has such a dislike of crunchy food that at least Buddy doesn't have to fight him for the crunchy cat treats. Buddy loves his treats!

Good luck, I've always heard that native milkweed is a hard plant to start but once it takes ahold your are golden.

Oh and don't you garden for your cat? Isn't that why we do everything! emoticon

I know this is a Cat team and not a gardening team but just wanted to comment on your post!!
I am so happy you just let your yard do what it wants to do!!
The honey bees need all of the help they can get!
The last couple of years I have been trying to help the Monarch Butterflies. They feed on all kind of flowers but many people don't realize that the "only" place they lay their eggs is on Milkweed plants!!
My project this year is trying to get several Milkweed plants started in my backyard!!

My kitties have access to the out of doors so they get all the grass they want. We don't weed or feed the lawn. In saying that my yard is full of those little spring flowers. The tiny tiny purple ones and the larger pink ones. and hensbit which is a larger pinkypurple one.
We also have lots of the clover stuff that has pink blooms. Cant think of its name. The yard is full of honey bees that come from somewhere. Guessing it is a wild colony somewhere.
I went around an pruned a few things last week and tied down my climbing rose that was getting out of hand. Pruned back the autumn clematis which is really a weed but it a good pollinator and bird seed producer.

My neighbors laugh because I grow grass on my second floor balcony. Not the getting high type but kitty grass for Chrisy Miss. Her tummy problems are legendary.

Time to think about that favorite fresh herb. I found a Thai Basil, Sweet Basil, Parsley & German Thyme to plant my upcoming weekend. Just need a Lemon Thyme, Catnip for the Cats and maybe new sage if I can't salvage last years. It's still early and I know there will be more freezing cold but mine will be in pots that I can slip into the garage when those nippy nights come!

What are you going to plant!

I have a Day & Night set of Cats.
Prince takes the day shift and watches the Kingdom. Then he comes in and sleeps all night.
Buddy takes the night shift and watches. And spends all these pretty spring days sleeping.
Prince is interested in the birds and bees and flowers and tree squirrels. Buddy is interested in protecting the Kingdom from intruders. They are such fun!

I got a new dry cat food that Buddy Loves! He is eating it over his wet Fancy Feast. And it is a good for kitty kind. Read labels till I found one I liked at Pets Mart. Prince still just a nibble of dry now and then. One day soon Prince is going to fall into the shower while I'm in there. He is getting braver or noisier everyday.

I am not on often but wanted to share a photo.
I have a Catio for my two best friends, KoKo and CeCe. It is an enclosed upper deck.
While out in the yard today I looked up and saw my two were keeping an eye on me!! LOL

Okay so I am no expert on the age of cats. Felt really stupid when the vet said Prince was 10 months to a year old. He weights 71/2 lbs. A month of eating kitten chow mixed in with his wet really helped him grow. He has doubled in size (we swear) I hadn't said anything to my hubby and he said he thought the had doubled. He is growing on good food and lots of Love! Hoping he will grow some more in the next 4 months. I have in my mind to neuter him in July. Depending on several variables, most having to do with the welfare of Buddy. And/or he starts spraying. Then his little fuzzy bunnies will be cut off sooner.

The other night they were playing and all you saw was a black cat face with grey paws pushing up on the cheeks. It was so funny. (had to be there)

Anyway the visit to the vet turned up a healthy cat with ear mites but I heard him sneeze twice last night. I am hoping he is not reacting to the shots. Barfed up his breakfast this morning but that is not uncommon for cats so I'm just going to keep an eye on him the next couple of days.

My phone is my alarm and each morning when it goes off he beats me to it and sets on it. Then he sits on me, trying to keep me from getting up. Too bad he is not tiger size! emoticon Then I could stay home when I said the cat is holding me down.

My Mickey Mouse would go for walks in his kitty boogie daily. He had friends who were Setters, Labs etc. But he hated little dogs. It was because he disliked other cats and thought they were noisy cats I think. LOL!!

Tell me why that cat will attack a dog 4 times his size but is skittish around one a size he could kill and eat. I think it's because the smaller dogs are so jumpy and unpredictable.
I have seen this cat sit and stare at 2 German shepherds debating the odds he could win.
Thankfully he realized the odds were not in his favor and stayed on his side of the fence.

Silly cat.

Another neighbor dog from next door is visiting. Well his people are visiting my neighbor and he ( the dog) gets dragged along. This one is a small black & tan mixed mutt. But Buddy is not fond of the Little Poodle thing that gets loose every now and again. I have seen him chase the poodle.

Buddy had a rough couple of days. Two strange men and dogs were in his kingdom. It started when I call the water dept. to check the pressure at our house. That was the first Man, and of course the pressure test made a hissing noise. That wasn't the fix to the problem so another man had to come the next day and fix the pressure regulator that had failed on our side. That man came with 2 Australian Shepherds. One he kept in the truck cause it was a youngster and wouldn't mind and the old girl that stuck right with him. Anyway that man came in the house. Somehow bad timing caught him and buddy under the kitchen sink together. It also caught Doggie at the exit when Buddy got to his escape hatch. Not good, but no animals were harmed in the fixing of my water. Just Buddies attitude. If that wasn't bad enough a neighbor dog got loose and came to my yard. This upset Buddy and he bowed up and was advancing on unaware dog. I get Buddy took him into house and the dog followed me inside the house. This did not set well with the cat. In the meantime Prince (the kitten) comes up and now there is a big dog between me and kitten. I managed to beat the dog out the door and get kitten, throw out dog and shut door. WHEW !! Thankfully at no point did the dog act aggressively toward the cats. No animals were harmed and now Buddy is really in a foul mood. All night he growled at everything that moved. But no nap & cold weather made him stay in all night safe and sound!

Buddy is a Fancy Feast cat. He will try some of the others but doesn't really eat them. I got him some $$$ and he wouldn't eat it. I do get him good quality dry and I am glad he eats that.
My previous kitty liked only friskies dry and I think that is what helped contribute to her problems in the end. But she was 16-17 years old so who knows.

Prince will get the better adult cat food next go round after he eats all this kitten food. which in his case wont take long. I finally filled him up enough the other day that he left some food on his plate.

How cute! I wish I could get my cats to eat wet cat food. Neither of them really seem to like it -- and I've tried a number of different flavors, mostly fancy feast brands but some others. They both just like up all the syrup -- Marley usually heads over to the regular food bowl and then starts chomping on the regular dry food. They won't even freshly grilled fish scraps either! Apparently I don't have normal cats -- neither of them like boxes either.
