Great suggestions. Always good to have a wake-up call. However, I have a hard time following through even though I know exactly what to do. I have to change my attitude - that is what I'm having trouble with.

How much do I really want this? I just don't know.

You know that the food that you make for the holiday can be eaten all year round, so why go crazy for pumpkin pie when you can make in in January February or March. You can make a turkey all year round too. So why should we get so nervous when TG comes around. I eat only those things I can't possibly get at any other time. Such as Auntie Tillies stuff, because she won't be here next year, she is probably going to be in a nursing home. Get the idea? Don't fear the holidays. Make something for the holidays that you can eat within your diet program at least then you can attempt to be on program. If you can't resist then have a tablespoon of what you want and turn your back to the buffet table.

Holidays often bring with them a lot of unresolved feelings and emotions - as time goes by, we gradually learn more effective and healthier ways to deal with holiday meals.

Great posts! I have slowly turned away from emotional eating and feel this is a miracle. It has been accomplished with all of your help, people, and from posting honestly as 10CHRIS48 did today. This year I am looking forward to the PEOPLE I will see over the holidays.

Chris,

emoticon I haven't been concentrating on the holidays, as I know what a disaster they can be, for me. But you just showed me that I need to plan ahead, and be very diligent about it! I'll continue to do my exercising as I am, and if for some reason I'm not able, a bit of marching in place will suffice, when all else fails! I'll also let you know how I do!

Blessings!

when I lost 54lbs last year I was walking in short spurts of a mile at a time a few times a day and then a coupe times a week doing 4 miles at one shot. I have recommited to this-- well the first part of the short waks at least. I'm on my third day of this streak! emoticon emoticon emoticon

looking for friends to connect with, get to know, and encourage each other along this journey. :-)

After reading some of your posts I realize that a lot of us are struggling. I know emotional, compulsive overeating is a hard place to be.
This is my plan to get back on track this week. My weight has been UP since I've come back from vacation this summer. So, I am going to review what I was doing before that. For this week I will follow my weight loss plan, I will exercise at least 3 times this week, I will groom for bed and not eat after 8 (if I brush and floss my teeth after dinner, I'm less likely to eat again...I hate to have to do it again), I will go to bed by 11 and I will cut my eating outside my home to one time this week.
This will get me back on track, what can you do? what has worked for you before?
I know that when I have a negative attitude about myself I don't treat myself well, I am likely to berate myself to the point of even telling me I'm fat and lazy! Well, THAT sure doesn't help me...since it is the perfect opportunity to overeat to prove myself right! Come on....I know people love me....I know I can do this....I've lost 35 pounds and maintained it for over a year! Right there makes me a WINNER! What have you done to make you a winner? You don't get to say nothing because if nothing else you are reading and being active on Spark People!
Make a pledge to yourself, if only for today, that you will love yourself and stay on plan...whatever that is for you. I'm going to give it a shot......I'll let you know how I do. emoticon and so can you!
