Hi! You are not alone! This has happened to many of us! It can have a number of underlying reasons...one as simple as you and the others at the party just don't have all that much in common even if you are all family! You may be more sensitive than they are. In time and as you move forward towards your goals the intensity of the situation can lessen...and you can fill your life with supportive, friendly and loving people!! Don't feel badly...we've all used food to "comfort" ourselves!!!....We are here for you and we can all work to move forward together!! Happy New Year and we will prevail!!

For the first time since my now 9-year-old son was born, I was invited out for New Years- and not to one but three parties. 2 overlapped, so I went to one for New Year's Eve and another (family) party today. I felt so awkward at both, where nobody really talked to me. When I tried to socialize, I felt like it was a sort of awkward attempt at conversation and people just sort of stared at me.

I wish I knew what made it so hard to interact- even with my own family- at these parties. Most of the time I end up sitting in a chair by myself waiting for a reasonable amount of time to go by before I feel like I can leave.

I feel like it must be something I'm putting out there, but I don't know what it is or how to fix it, so usually, like tonight, I come home and eat. After downing 5 frozen Girl Scout cookies, I am ashamed. This was not the outcome I was hoping for, but I think my weight is a huge contributor to my social anxiety.
