Focus on one certain area at a time. This will help you start cleaning your room. Don't look at it as the big picture because you will get discouraged.

Try turning on the radio or singing. Most of the time this is very helpful in getting you in the mood to clean. If you have the music on, you could tidy whilst dancing. For instance, if you had something one side of the room and it needed to be the other, you could twirl, fox trot or even Cha-Cha your way there! Put on your phone music!!

Pretend it is a race against the clock. Give yourself a half hour or else the clock wins, and no one likes losing to a thing that doesn't have a brain.

Going to help DDIL today pare down her stash of decorating items...or at least consolidate them. Working together makes things enjoyable.

Yep! Yep! Thank God we can!

As I clean the rooms: Set up a trash bag as a basketball hoop and if you don't make it in you lose the game. Throw all papers away and if you find pieces to a game, chuck those too, unless you know what game they go to. If you don't, the game is not important enough.

Was listening to CAR TALK today and some gal was griping about her housemate having two cars and having to move both of them to get out to work. The guys reminded her that she has legs, she can walk, she has a job...quit griping.
I guess that is the way I should look at things. I have a house. I have clothing. I have a kitchen and food. I shouldn't gripe about picking up and cleaning and washing and cooking. Thank God I can.

I have heard of throwing things out because the family didn't put things away and I have heard it works!

I am just giving up and cleaning... I HATE the arguing! The philosophy is - "If it is meant to be - it is up to me! And a wonderful bonus if it is done before! (But 99% it's not)"

You could do what some do: put the left out things in a bin somewhere. They get it back when you say so.
Or you could do what one mom did after repeatedly telling her dtr to hang up her coat...she threw it out in the snow!

MILPAM..THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!! I LOVED IT!!!! Well, I am cleaning up the mess my daughter and husband left me. What I am doing is adding up a bill for each of them...everything I pick up that they didn't will cost them 25 cents!

I used to have a chicken kitchen. Had a picture I cross stitched that said, "The rooster may crow, but the hen delivers the goods."
Yesterday my husband told me he'd give me $7,000 if I'd clean off the dresser top in the mudroom. I did and left him a bill. I knew he wouldn't pay, but it sure would have made it more fun if he had! emoticon

I'm the same, I love to think about how much I'm going to lose by cleaning house, so to me that is fun.

Keep thinking about how my cleaning helps me take off weight plus helps me feel good about my house. I have one sweet, Siamese cat that seems to let me know that she notices what I cleaned. It's almost like she is telling me, "Good Job". She especially like the scent of the cleaning products I make.

Though I don't see cleaning as "fun," once an area is clean & neat, it is rewarding to pass a room and see everything in place.

Put on my motivational music and did my Flylady routine. When done, I reward myself with my favorite tea. Later today I will watch a movie if I get my cleaning routine completed.

I misplaced my timer.... going to get another one tomorrow... I noticed when I have a big area to clean... if I tell myself and use the timer for 15 minutes... I have chipped away and cleaned up! Now for those areas I am doing pretty well at maintaining the area! Little steps!

Also got my library card Saturday and will bd soon listening to a book on CD as I clean and hopefully work out!

It's also fun to try to beat the time when doing those "simple" tasks...like loading the dish washer or putting the dishes away, or making the bed, etc. It takes the boredom out of the tasks.

Yes, I sure can relate to NOT FEELING cleaning as fun. So I bought a book (used copy in great shape & cheap) entitled, "Sidetracked Home Executive". Since I have always been an office manager, the Title Home Executive really appealed to me. When the book came I read it cover to cover.

Before I started cleaning I followed the S.H.E. (Sidetracked Home Executive) cleaning routine. I got my tickler file box and filled all my colored 3 X 5 cards with daily, weekly, monthly & season cleaning tasks. This got my cleaning routine plan all in place to follow.

First of all, thinking of myself as a Home Executive made me feel better. Somehow house cleaning didn't seem so bad. I then realized that a change in attitude and how one thinks can help motivate one to clean.

Next, getting up, showering and dressing up pushes me to get into the "I am going to do my best" mind set. Plus, I feel good about myself.

Now I got out my tickler file box and pulled out my daily cleaning routine file cards. I did each one while playing my favorite, lively music. My mind was so focused on getting the routine done that it didn't seem so boring and time consuming.

The S.H.E. and Flylady go hand-in-hand. Now that I have been following the routine for 5 plus weeks, my house looks good. And, to my surprise, my husband has started to pick up a little. He enjoys the clean, organized house.

For months I tried to get him to clean up. I never knew a clean, orderly house would be what was needed.

As the saying goes, 90% of attitude and 10% of aptitude get the job done.

FLYlady talks about making cleaning fun. I don't feel it! Just work, but it feels good when it gets done! Maybe others can share how they make cleaning fun!
