Now that the kids are away at college, I find I don't eat to please others or to "keep someone company" while they're eating. I eat when I am actually hungry, the portion size I want. Since the DH moved out, I also don't drink coffee in the morning, which is helping a LOT with the indigestion and stomach pains I used to have...

I used to go to movies just for the popcorn, but I've changed. The last 2 movies I saw I didn't get anything to eat, just water, and I survived just fine.

I've given up soda, pretty much completely. I was a soda-holic...its all I ever drank and I loved it. I don't miss it like I thought I would. I've also given up chick fil a milkshakes...and I still mourn that loss!! :)

I've pretty much cut out meat and processed foods. I only have dairy(ice cream!!!!) when my boyfriend gets it. I didn't drink soda to begin with. :D

i religiously eat a healthy breakfast EVERY day..usually either steel-cut oatmeal or cold multi-grain cereal, a piece of fruit, and an 8oz glass of lite soy milk or a lite yogurt.
for lunch, i either a big bowl of home-made veggie soup or a lean cuisine or a WW entree.
for dinner, "normal" food in the recommended serving size.
i snack on fruit or raw veggies.

I love to bake...so now what I do is I make whatever I am baking healthier and I eat a piece and send the rest to work with my DH.

saturday was my grand daughter's 19th birthday..she's out of state at school..it's the first time we were not together for her b'day..i made her favorite cake, invited a few of her friends over, called her on the phone...we sang happy birthday to her while she ohh'd, ahh'd & cried...we all had a piece of cake..and then i did the best thing i could've...i made her friend take the rest of the cake home with her..in the old days i would've guarded that cake like my life depended on it, so i could finish it when everyone had gone home..and, i really felt proud of myself for showing a little self-control.

-I don't eat all day anymore.
-I eat better things, no more junk.
-I don't drink pop anymore.
-I have started actually walking with my dogs instead of just standing around with them when they need to go outside (that's a big one).
-I force myself to do more than just sit around.

That's the big changes so far, I'm sure there will be more to come as my journey continues.

Wow - I've left so many behind! And after all the kicking and screaming I did on my own time, I realized that making these changes wasn't so hard to accomplish. Here are a few I've managed to give up:

-drinking soda
-binge/boredom/mindless/emotional eating
-grocery shopping when I'm hungry
-eating in front of the TV
-buying temptation foods
-eating fast food

There are plenty more where that came from, but it's such a huge accomplishment for all of us to give up ANY of the things we've left behind! Congrats to all, and I hope you find continued success!

when i start to put "blame" on anyone or anything other then myself, i know it's because i'm looking for an excuse to do something i shouldn't do... doesn't matter if it's spending money on something i really don't need, or eating something i want even if i know it's the wrong thing to eat.

very hard, i know..my sil is a chain smoker..i've quit and then picked up again too many times to count..the longest time i've ever quit for was 6 yrs smoke free..since, it's been stop, start up over and over..i had 3 cigs today, after being smoke free for 5 weeks..i don't know why i keep going back to them..i think it's boredom.

Congratulations on the smoking! I did that a few years ago, and I know how hard it is! That is a real accomplishment.

Another bad habit I've left behind is buying candy bars. Occasionally, I treat myself to one at work, but the machine is so expensive, that I get mad at myself for it and then don't do it again for awhile!

Good job on the tomato paste and the beer! With the tomato paste...you're right. It wouldn't be that bad for you. But it sounds like you're learning to change your behavior and decision-making, and that's what it's more about...not just the calories.

Today I did something I definitely need to share. I was cooking and there was this tomato paste looking absolutely delicious. I could feel the urge to spoon it in my bones. But I just stopped, took a deep breath and sipped some water. Then I went on with my cooking.
Mind you, a couple of spoonfuls of tomato paste would not blow my diet, and it's also very nutritious. I stopped myself just because it would be purposeless, mindless eating.
I think I'm somewhat proud of myself :)

I have managed not to say "no" to any alcoholic drink since joing three weeks ago. We have been to a # of BBQ's the past 3 weeks, and I decline the beer, and opt for water instead.

Good job on the coffee! That's a huge step! I've started enjoying my tea so much that I look forward to it first thing in the morning instead of firing up my coffee maker. I haven't even missed the coffee...although I think I'll still enjoy it on the weekends when I can sip it leasurely on my back porch. Also, since I'm single-again and dating, I have started ordering water with a lemon instead of the obligatory glass of wine with dinner.

Well, I guess I had better chime in here. I have completely cut out sodas (even diet ones), and my coffee consumption is down from 6-8 cups a day to 3-4 cups a week. That was a tremendous change for me, and I'll admit that I got headaches at first, but not anymore. As long as OJ is available, I can skip the coffee completely with no ill effects!

Gee I don't know if I could cut back on the coffee. Right now it is my only vice. I joke with my fiance' all the time about coffee being my "first love". I usually have no more than 2 cups in the morning, and then the rest of the day it is strictly water.

Good idea with the baked potato! Yummy! This weekend, I decided to cut back on my daily coffee, and try to drink tea every day. I know that it's much healthier and easier on the stomach, too.

I threw out the butter dish, and the salt shaker. Well I did not actually throw them out, but I am not using butter or salt on anything I eat. I use peanut butter on my toast, and I bought MsDash for all of my vegetables. I had a baked potatoe one night last week, and seasoned it with salsa in stead of butter and sour cream. Those two changes alone have been huge for me I have always been heavy handed with butter and salt.

Great idea! I may have to try that. I still have a weakness for picking up chips every time I go. My daughter likes them, but there are other things in the house she can eat.

i have stopped buying what i consider my problem foods/treats. if it's not in the house, i can't eat it. i figure if i still want it next time i go to market, i'll get it then. i usually don't want it.

Nobody's written anything on this post lately. So, I thought I'd add something. Something I've given up is buying packages of donuts for the family to eat on the weekends. I make eggs instead or have cereal and a bowl of fruit. Nobody else in the family is overweight, but everybody needs to eat healthy!

Good job, everyone! I've also stopped buying bags of cookies and candy, and I find that I don't miss them. In fact, I get heartburn now when I eat candy bars :) I guess that's my body's way of telling me that it likes my new habits!

I've really cut down the portions and eat at least 2 meals everyday...most days 3. (I used to snack off and on all day then eat one huge meal) I am almost 100% sugar-free and don't buy bags of chocolate (boo hoo) or potato chips anymore! I keep the 150 cal packs of chips at work and only eat one with my salad at lunch! The cravings are fading and I can fight the urge to eat for the sake of eating now!
Wow! I really have come a long way...lol.

I like the not turning the tv on, I wish I could stop that one. I don't buy big bags of chocolate anymore. Reeses are my favorite. If I get a craving i buy a candy bar or reach for a suger free fudgcycle. OHhh I love them. I have changed addictions LOL.

We can do anything we set our minds to, we just have to set our minds to do it.

since joining SP, i've cut out about 98% of refined sugar products. i reach for fresh fruit instead of cookies/cake, or i eat a frozen banana(they're really good!)...theresa.

Hey Everyone,
I thought it would be good if we all reflect upon the bad habits we've broken since joining SP and/or the Cat Lovers Team. For every bad behavior we don't do anymore, there's a good behavior that's taken it's place. I'll start by saying that I don't automatically turn the TV on when I get home from work anymore. I look for something more active to do...like going out and pulling weeds from my flower garden. I get to also enjoy the fresh air after a day in the office.
