Hi! I just rejoined Sparkpeople Tuesday night and got out my Beck book, so perfect timing I guess. I just spent the summer getting my mom through her cancer treatments and my grandma through her health challenges, and let myself go. It was a whirlwind and a time of utter exhaustion! It's time to get me to goal weight.

I'll be joining in here also. My time is still limited as well, as I homeschool and we are cleaning out my grandma's house to get ready to move several states away, but I will be diligent in reading my Beck book and doing what I need to do.

Glad to be here!

Chris, I've got some challenges in my life, too. Probably no one's life is all roses, although you may have more demands than most right now. If we wait for the perfect time to change our eating, it will never happen! Do the best you can and I bet it will be good enough for you to achieve your goals. I do not eat what the rest of my family does. And cooking 2 (or sometimes more) entrees at each meal is time consuming, but you know what?, I'm worth it!

Jeanknee, Lurking is totally allowed. Do what meets your needs best!

Here's today's SparkMail:
Great insights! We now have about 70 helpful Beck blogs and numerous relevant message board posts. I hope this group effort (53 people now) is motivating you as much as it is me!

If you can't read all the blogs, don't worry. Do what helps you. I believe everyone is getting good feedback on their blogs.

Most members are blogging about Chapter 3 today, but some are waiting for their books. If you start late or miss a day for some reason, just jump in and keep going!! October 22nd is our target date for finishing the book.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate all the work you are putting into this trek and all the great inspirational writing. Beck is great to do alone, but those who share how they apply Beck to their own lives take it to another level. All I can say is THANKS.

I am seeing al that lovely GOLD in them thar hills! I am so tempted to read everyone's blogs! I am caregiver to my DH and recently to our DD, too. So , I need to limit my sparking. Please bear with me. I will be here when I can. Hubby had a serious, debilitating stroke in 2006 and DD just came to live with us and is diligently doing addiction recovery. I am struggling even to make my water aerobic classes which are a major part of my own health. I have to drive her everywhere since she lost her license., And the courts are making her attend 3X week counseling, AA meetings, a driver/alcohol set of classes, and twice a month "check ins," etc. Needless to say my time is not my own. chris

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.
LONG TERM GOAL: Reduce A1C,BP,tryglicerides,and weight.Evening Eating Sabotage Myself Frustration ..Help! www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i

My resistance muscle has gotten flabby lately. Other things have taken over my healthy habits focus. And our DD is now living with us. Having her cook is a disaster for sticking to my own plan. She loves pasta and butter and lots of very bad carby foods! Also hubby is now back from several months in rehab after a hospital stay. His eating habits are horrendous. The first thing he wanted was a big sub sandwich and then he begged for pizza! And soon he will want Burger King with friesand then Kentucky fried chicken! I definitely need to strengthen my own resistance muscle. chris

Hi - trying to catch up on everyone's post and blogs. So many insightful people on SP and I'm learning something from everyone I read. There are so many and I find that I can't get to everyone in a day and still be there for dh when he needs me.

Thank you Marsha for 'handling' this. It is such a big job and your blogging and posting -- awesome woman we have as a leader!

I expect that I will be primarily lurking here. I have not read Beck; but, will purchase the book, read it, and follow along.

The reason I relate to this work so much is that I spent time in therapy with a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist many moons ago. What I learned changed my life! For the better.

It is so exciting for me to see what is happening here. I have experienced up close and personal how powerful this stuff can be!

Hats off to all of you. Enjoy the trek!

Here I am trying to catch up.
I really looked forward to reading Chapter 1 yesterday, but wasn't able to until the end of my day. I am determined to get a couple chapters in on one day soon so I can feel more caught up.
What a differences a few pages can make. I found myself thinking about small parts of it all day. Mostly I think I need to refocus my efforts on putting ME and my health first - before work demands and all those other things that get in the way. I must plan better because I've found in the past that if I have a food plan in place then even when things get busy, I can stick to it.

If anyone out there is a computer wiz, I'm getting frustrated with an "unresponsive script" error that pops up every time I change the page here on Spark. If I read a bloc and then go back, I have to "stop script" before I can go on. I use Firefox and a PC with Windows 7 Professional. I googled but didn't find a solution yet.
Have a good Beck night, everyone! I'm enjoying the blogs in between error messages.

Day one. Reading my reasons for why I want to lose weight. Seems like something that would not have much impact because we think about it all the time,, but it's really helping. I'm always envious of girls that can put anything on and it looks good. I want to wear cute clothes! I know it's shallow...but it is one of my most motivating reasons. .

Here's the SparkMail I sent out today:
More than 30 Beck blogs, most about Chapters One and Two are easily accessed from Beck Diet Solution SparkTeam's Recent Member Blogs. Is everyone able to find it? Some people are subscribing to blogs. There is real GOLD in those blogs. Everyone seems to get it, but each person sees a slightly different twist. Although Beck writes well, sometimes I understand at a different level -- sometimes emotional after I read what our members have to say

SparkMail me if you need help. I am willing to even send out links if needed.

I feel really good that 51 of us Beckies are now trekking (all now on SparkMail) together! Some people have said they are overwhelmed. Remember you don't have to read every blog. Read what benefits you and feel good about it! You are doing this trek for you!!

Most people are blogging about Chapter 2 today, pages 26-32. Some people will jump in when they get their books. (This great trek just developed quickly. Originally it was just Gaby1948 and me! If we ever do it again, we'll give more notice!)

The group assignment is Chapter 3 for tomorrow, but blog (or post a comment on message board) where you are. There are 42 days and 6 extra chapters, so many will finish in 48 days. But Beck says you can go slower or faster as long as you do them in order. We've set October 22nd, 60 days, as our target date for the group to be finished.

So if everyone can find each others' blogs, the team message boards, and knows to read a chapter a day, the challenge should be fine even if my computer breaks!!

Joy, Feel free to do it however it feels right to you. We actually have 4 chapters before Day One in the Beck book, so really you are ahead of the game.

Ooolala, I see that the workbook deviates from the hardback book more on these introductory chapters. I think once we get to the actual "days" they will be more in line. They are both great resource. Feel free to comment/blog about what you are reading. It is just as valid.

Goinggreen, If doing two chapters in one day is not a stress, great. If it is, just blog where you are. Some people will need more time to learn a certain skill or will have an interruption due to busy lives. We've set Oct 22 (60 days) as our target date to finish the 42 days and 6 extra chapters.

Kriszta: Feel free to lurk all you want! Some people are wanting us to do this trek annually or semi-annually, so you may end up with another chance with the group. Of course, many of us have worked this book alone and know it can be very beneficial. I like the group, but it definitely is not necessary.

Good morning!
As I have not yet received the book I am trying to keep up by utilizing ONEKIDSMOM 's blogs about the pink book from 11/25/15. I posted my reasons to lose weight in a blog.
The "diets" I will follow: counting calories/nutrients on SP and a Mediterranean type diet with lots of freggies to keep the blood pressure normal.
An article I read this morning on SP:
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on
_articles.asp?id=2000

I almost forgot to mention that one of the important things I need to remember from the beginning of the book is that it is OK to be hungry. I will live until the next meal. Nothing bad will happen.

I'm not joining the challenge because it is too early for me, as I'm still coming off the pink book, going from daily to weekly assessments.
Good luck to the challenge everyone, have a great experience and enjoy!

How will we coordinate if we are using the workbook instead of the first edition? Anyway, I'll write about day 1, my motivation list. It has over 40 items on it, some from milestones over the years. I had forgotten that I added a few reasons that are not officially benefits, but are inspiration to me, people who either faced down or are facing down tougher situations. My major motivation is sanity around food, self-respect, and body image, so weight loss is not the major focus. I will respect the results no matter what as long as I adhere to sane habits.

Seven years of maintaining a 20% weightloss and counting.

First day and I seem to already be behind. I tend to read just before bedtime - which is a little later than usual today - so I will be reading the first chapter in a few minutes. I think I'll read an extra day's worth so I can contribute something the same day as the rest of you rather than always being a day behind.
I'm not much of a blogger so will be posting here for the most part - and trying to read some of the blogs as I can. Thanks, everyone for being in this together. I'm looking forward to bedtime and reading (or rereading) the first chapter.

Mary/Queen - blogs or posts. Your choice!! Love your positive attitude. Yes, I remember when I did not believe I could ever be a normal weight and that was some of the thinking that kept me from achieving it. Now we know we can do it!

Diana/DBoudrie - Very smart to stop and think about what you are thinking each time you eat. I'm going to try that, too.

First Thanks to everyone for pulling this together. True service and I appreciate it.

I posted here earlier on Day One instead of Chapter One. Oops. Sorry. But I am really glad everyone is focusing on thinking. That is at the heart of this for me. I went as far as I could losing weight with Spark alone before I found Beck. I got to one pound over normal BMI. And hit a wall. For years. Mostly because of thinking it was not possible to go further. I just did not see myself as anything but burdened with excess weight. This time around is very different. I sailed right past healthy BMI and am now just 7 pounds from my goal. I fully expect to get to goal and I also expect I will stay there because I am working on building skills to become a success. It is so great to go through these chapters again with this team. Now I am going to hop on over to the blogs and soak up the experience and wisdom of members.

PS, Personally I prefer the thread to posting blogs. Hope that is ok!

Hope this is the right place post this. I also put a copy in my blog.

Whenever you have the desire to eat ask yourself. What's going on in my mind right now. What am I thinking.

This is an important practice because I often find that I am eating for a variety of reasons. Occasionally I eat because I am physically hungry, but more frequently it is because it is meal time or i feel I should eat something so I don't get hungry later. I am not aware that I am afraid of hunger, but it certainly appears that this may be the case.

I find that if I eat a sugary treat I will often continue even though I am not hungry. I am aware there are certain foods that trigger cravings which leads to binges but I have not yet learned yet how to deal with these cravings.

I am ready to take this first step by thinking about what is going on in my mind and body each time I start eating.

Lora, great place to comment! Love that you are taking responsibility and seeing yourself in Beck's example. Your willingness to do what it takes puts you in a great place for success!

Blogging is a great way to do it, too. So far I've read 8 great blogs so far bringing out many different Beck principles. Just look at the list of team member's blogs.

I hope I am posting this in the right place. If not, please let me know where I should post.

My thoughts on Chapter 1:

Sue could be me--"Whenever Sue gave herself an excuse to deviate from her diet, her resolve quickly diminished." Change Sue to Lora in that sentence and you would be speaking truth about me. No more excuses!!!!!!!!

I also need to get rid of the unrealistic and inaccurate thoughts that I have when it comes to eating and dieting. I am finally ready and willing to get my "head" into the game and learn to think and behave like a thin person!!

Here is what I sent out today:

You have signed up for the Beck Diet Solution Reboot starting today. The assignment, as most of you have previously received by SparkMail or read in the Beck Diet Solution SparkTeam on the "Beck Diet Solution Reboot of August 2015" message board thread, is: Read Chapter One, pages 17-25 and either blog about it or comment on the SparkTeam thread.

Some of you are still waiting for books. That's fine. Jump in as soon as you can.

"Day One" doesn't really start until page 53. Some of you are already there (my previous communication was a bit ambiguous) and that is fine, too.The important thing is we are all reading this book filled with empowering ideas and working it in order.

I have set 60 days, August 24-October 22, as our target dates for this challenge.

And then I hope to send out links to many of your great blogs. WATERMELLEN (Ellen) started strong:
www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=5982702

DBOUDRIE (Bonnie) is in the right frame of mind:
www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=5983233

So we Beckies are now off on this Beck trek. (Perhaps I'll give up the sailing-voyage metaphor and stick to the hiking-trek mental image. It is more active and seems really appropriate.)

OK. Off and running. I read my list of reasons why I want to lose weight. I posted it on my phone in the notes app and set a reminder to read it in the calendar app. I have a copy open on my laptop. And for good measure I printed a paper copy and posted it on the fridge!

I just found out about this from an email from one of the members on the Beck team. I would love to join in. I have the book and workbook. I tried to do the book on my own. It's hard doing it on your own. Great to have support. I'll most likely post on here. I'll go look for that thread. I'll be reading the pages tomorrow. Looking forward in seeing and being my thin self!

Is there a place online to read first chapter? I have read green book a couple years ago and ordered pink but it hasn't arrived yet. Thanks.

I will join the reboot although I have never read the book. I am traveling, so will have to play a little catch-up this first week.

OOLALA...I think that some people will be blogging and others posting here, whatever works for them. I suppose people could also post links to their blogs in this thread.

I guess we'll see what happens, but I plan to pop in whenever I can. I won't be blogging daily, though. Just don't have time for that right now. Looking forward to getting started. If Amazon Prime does what it says it should, I should have the book tomorrow!

I hope there will be daily posters here, as I will depend on getting the Spark notice to remind ME to post. What is the plan for blogging? Was each person going to blog and then post here? Sorry if I'm being thick.

Not really a reboot for me since I am not quite thru the book for the first time. But I have gotten so much out of the book so far that I will gladly go thru it again. The scale is moving in the right direction for the first time in a long time and I feel so good.

Count me in. A couple of months ago I did re-listen to the book on cd's that I have. I got it used. The first cd is not perfect. But the rest of them are OK.

Count me in for the Beck Reboot 2015!

My admiration and thanks for Slenderella and ALL maintainers who take time to share. In helping others we help ourselves. I have learned from Spark friends that the journey continues after weightloss and their are some great hills and slippery slopes so rebooting is necessary. But at the same time, I have learned that a backslide, regain, fall-on-my-face is not failure if I just keep pushing and continue learning.

So here goes...!

A decision made about how much to weigh is a decision made on how to live. (KANOE) I have decided.

Ooolala53 asked me why I would be doing a Beck reboot when I'm 2 pounds under my goal weight right now. This is what I replied:

"Why the Beck reboot? Because I'm still improving my eating habits and going longer and longer between binges. I'm still trying to tighten that maintenance range and see fewer upswings. And I'm deciding if I want to reduce my goal weight range by 4 pounds. "

Truly for me maintaining my 85 pound weight loss takes a daily commitment. This Beck book has helped me more than any other book.

Some people have commented that they don't necessarily agree with all of it. That is okay. I encourage you to try it all if you haven't already, but use what works for you!!

Here is the earlier SparkMail invitation to the group, in case you missed it:

WOW!! Look at this group. Most everyone in this list has declared that they will read or re-read The Beck Diet Solution, starting on Monday, August 24th, day after tomorrow. With all this brain power and experience I'd say we are off to a GREAT start!!

****************************************
ASSIGNMENT for Monday: Read Chapter One, The Keys to Success, page 17-25. I encourage you to write out your thoughts about it in a blog to share with everyone.
****************************************
I tried to include everyone who expressed interest. If you know anyone else, let me know.

A few of you said you want to follow along with our blogs. But I encourage you to read it yourself and work it -- do the exercises as we get to them. I bought my TBDS book at a local bookstore and then ordered the workbook from Amazon. I read that some of you have downloaded TBDS. If you don't have the book, hope you get it and start as soon as you can.

I thought I would try to do a daily SparkMail and report out on the relevant blogs that our group members did the day before. That may prove unnecessary if everyone joins the Beck Diet Solution SparkTeam. We can just look under "Recent Member Blogs" and see them all.

Thanks so very, very much for your interest. I've read lots and lots of diet books, but this one I found the most helpful of all! I almost guarantee you will benefit from it, whether it is your first time or 20th. (It's my 4th time!)

Soon everyone of us will be thinking like a thin person!!

I just sent out a SparkMail but I thought I would post them here, too.

Desiree671 asks, "What pace are we going to go through Beck? Will we be blogging daily?"

There are 42 "days" or chapters in the Beck Diet Solution. Some of our group will finish in 42 days, blogging or posting a comment on the message board each day. Some will need an extra day or 2 to learn a specific skill or find a good time to do a Beck exercise (such as day 12), and that is fine. The challenge is to finish the book within 60 days!!

This wonderful group is now over 30 people!! It all started when Gaby1948 and I thought we'd go through The Beck Diet Solution together -- and now look where we are! Please do ask questions as I may not have thought this whole thing through. I'm so excited. I know this is going to be a great experience for me -- and I hope, for you, too.

I'll post this to the team message thread as we have one member who does not do SparkMail.

Marsha, thank you for this opportunity to learn more. I've just ordered the books from Amazon but they'll take about a week to reach me (Costa Rica), but I have access to the first chapters online (I think) while the book arrives. I'm a super slow reader though. I'll try to keep up with you. I'm not one who likes to blog neither do I track my food. I don't know if this book talks about this, but we don't have to agree with everything in order to learn and enjoy. (sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place)

I'd like to be part of this even though I am a rebel with certain prescriptions. I have my own version of tracking, but I haven't been keeping to it, so this will be part of the reboot. I'm mostly interested in working on my thinking to keep me on track with eating.

If anyone would rather post to this message thread rather than blog, that would be a great alternative! What did you get out of the chapter? How are you doing applying these concepts?? Please share any thing you'd like whether it is for your accountability or to help others more fully appreciate Beck.
