I have changed my fasting days to a different food plan.

On Mondays and Fridays I eat breakfast and then only liquids which include any clear soup/broths. If I am hungry I add one hard boiled egg, that is it.

Daily Calories are between 300 - 400

Hey all. Yesterday was a good fast day for me.
I had 590 calories / 15 carbs.

Today I am focused on staying on my plan and keeping away from "cookies" that are calling me from the kitchen. I don't even like cookies!!! :(

Hello
How is everyone?

I have been doing all right I guess.

My weight stayed the same the two weeks after my birthday on July 13th.
The next week I lost 3.5 pounds. The next week my weight stayed the same.
Then the next week I lost 2.25 pounds. I was 10.75 pounds away from the goal my doctor set for me. Then I had a stressful week and had difficulty staying on the fast train and was craving sugar. I also did not exercise as much as I usually do. My oldest daughter found out 3.5 weeks ago that she is leaving for college this Friday. She will be staying with my sister in Toronto and commuting to the college. So this week I gained 2.75 pounds. I am now 13.5 pounds away from the goal my doctor set. I also did not do a fast day as usual yesterday so I will do one tomorrow and one on Friday. I will let you know how I am doing but I think my body is comfortable at this weight and it does not want to loose any more.

Yesterday was an ok fast day. Salad and chicken thigh for lunch then chicken livers with onions for dinner.

I know a lot of people don't like liver but I do. At least I used to until my husband started buying it every week or two and now I don't want to look at it again for a very long time. Like a year or two. I kept telling him that I didn't like it so often so he then went to about once a month, or even every 2 months. But the switch was flipped in my head and I don't want to see them any more. Isn't that funny? I still like them, but it's like I can't stand the idea of them anymore. I told him yesterday if he buys them again I'll cook them for him but I won't eat them anymore. Now if that had been pizza, I would be good - I could never get turned off from pizza! But apparently there is a limit to how often I can eat chicken livers.

emoticon

I ended up around 550 calories because after the livers I needed something else to wash it away, so I had an ice pop...

You will!

My fast day yesterday was fine. The usual salad & chicken for lunch, then 4 ounces of lox, some celery sticks and a roll for dinner. Just at 500. I was a little hungry though and just powered through it.

Both my son and husband were sucking on ice pops - my DH bought one of those big packages of frozen colored sugar water in plastic tubes and boy they looked good last night! I'm not usually a fan but when it's hot and you're a little peckish...

Yesterday was a salad with homemade teriyaki chicken - so that's my lunch all week. Dinner was about 1/3 cup of cottage cheese, a roll and some pickles. Around 450 all in all. I ate so much all weekend of really salty food that I wasn't even that hungry yesterday, so a light dinner was good.

I think dinner will be a piece of baked salmon with roasted zucchini. Should come in under 500 today.

Sounds good, Kathleen!

I hit 599 calories yesterday - ok, I'm sure it was probably a few over - but I'll take it. DH bought some avocados and I couldn't resist adding 1/2 to my dinner.

Lunch was the usual spinach salad w/baked breaded chicken thigh.

Dinner was 2 egg whites, a Trader joe's ciabatta roll, 1/2 an avocado and 3 pieces of turkey bacon.

Nikki - how are you doing? You have been so quiet the last few months - great to hear from you!

My fast day yesterday was around 570 calories. Lunch was salad with leftover grilled fish. Ok, it was shark! We ate shark for the first time and it was dee-licious! Dinner was a roll with 1 ounce of camembert and some mayo-less cole slaw. I snacked on a plum and some watermelon, too, because I just wanted some of that great summer fruit! So that brought me over 500 calories.

Another fast day, but with more than the usual protein which I think is good. Lunch is the usual salad but with a larger boneless chicken thigh than usual (5.5 ounces) and dinner will be .5 cup of cottage cheese with a roll and tomato. I'm continuing my cottage cheese kick this week - it's such an easy way to get over 20 grams of protein per .5 cup serving. Plus I like the whipped cottage cheese - it's not as wet and lumpy as the regular stuff. It's so 70's. Or 80's. Which is appropriate since the radio is playing Earth, Wind & Fire's "September." Let's dance!

I'm fasting again today - lunch will be spinach salad with a grilled chicken thigh and balsamic vinegar, and dinner will be a baked fish with more salad, I think. Should be at or under 500 for the day.

Today was homemade chicken broth with some carrot and celery pieces in it, plus some Trader Joe's chicken and mushroom pelmeni dumplings. That was a great combo and hit the spot on this rainy day.

Dinner with be a couple of roasted chicken drumsticks with roasted zucchini. Should put me around 450 today.

Spiegy - You did good yesterday!

Today I am having:

Lunch - Egg Salad Sandwich - Lo cal bread and mayo

Dinner - Ham steak and canned potatoes with green beans

Snack - Soda of course

Like I said earlier a bit high today at 680, but I am just going to accept it and move on. If I worry to much I will blow it completely and I don't want to do that!

Have a nice one!

Mmmmm... pastries....

Yesterday's fast day was good. Salad greens with balsamic vinegar and feta cheese for lunch and 1/2 of a baked salmon steak with shredded cabbage and carrots w/white vinegar for dinner. Plus a little equal to cut the vinegar a little. Apparently it was a heavy vinegar day yesterday! Plus a few small dill pickles and a couple of celery sticks for snacking. It was good.

Wtg Spiegy! I was planning a Fast Day for today , but my boss returned from a 3 week vacation with some goodies. I have not had a pastry since starting this back in February, so I am going to switch my Fast Day to tomorrow and had a pastry with my co-workers for a welcome back to her. That is what I love about the WOE....you can change days to accomodate what is going on!! Awesome!!

Have a great day all!!

It's more like a "one meal a day" today than a strict fast day. No breakfast, then a diner lunch with a friend, with a grilled chicken breast & feta cheese sandwich with french fries. I ate half the bread, so the best I can estimate is that it was about 650 calories. So I'm going to stick with that for today. If possible I may do another fast day on Monday in addition to my regular 2nd day on Wednesday.

Spiegy - It is great that you play around the food to see what works though. I am trying to mix up my Fast Days a bit, looking to make some changes next week. It is so hard because I literally eat like a 5 yr. old. I wish I were not so fussy, but I have tried everything and I know what I will eat. So I work on just making this work around my likes. I am however trying to improve my Fast Days by including more of the good foods that I do like, so that at least those days look healthier. LOL

452 calories yesterday.

Lunch - teriyaki chicken thigh and baby spinach

Dinner - 2 pieces of gefilte fish, 1 pickle, 1/2 sheet of matzo, 5 chicken pelmeni

The pelmeni were a Trader Joe's purchase - they are supposed to be little Polish dumplings with chicken, mushrooms, onions and dill. 11 are 160 calories so I ate 5. They look SO good on the package picture but actually turned out to be tiny little things about the size of a quarter each. So while I was initially excited that 11 for 160 calories would be a great lunch for a fast day, I can see that 11 of these little things would probably just make me hungry for a real meal. I think the only way for me to eat them and feel full would be to cook them in chicken stock with some vegetables so that the soup would fill me up and the dumplings would just be some added interest.

On the Fast Train today...4/16/18

Lunch - 1 cup - Homeade Chicken Veggie Soup

Dinner - Rice a Roni bowl w/3oz. chicken mixed in

My soda of course!

586 Calories.

Spiegy - I have decided as long as I stay close the 600 and am continuing to lose, I am not going to stress over it and ruin the fact that I am losing weight. I am going to continue to enjoy my sodas for a bit. Without them I am around the 500 mark. I think right around 600 is still really good, so you should be proud of it!!

Higher than usual fast day for me, just over 600 calories. But I was hungry and ate a good sized piece of salmon for dinner - 6 ounces instead of the planned 4. With a side of roasted broccoli with a sprinkling (about a tsp) of Parmesan. Lunch was 1 turkey sausage with some sauteed zucchini. And several pickles and a couple of celery stalks. Lots of vegetables, so I'm not going to sweat it.

Back from vacation this week. Did not do good last week, but not horrible either so I am not going to worry about it. I did a staycation, but had a few days out here and there with family and friends. Back on the Fast Train today.

Spiegy - I hate how everyone trashes carbs too...I could not live without bread!!

Today is my ham sandwich on lo cal wheat bread for lunch
Chicken and green beans for dinner

I will come in the 600's somewhere because of my 10oz. soda.
I don't care, still not willing to give it up just yet!!

Very busy at work, need to catch up and have 3 meetings this week. UUgghhh!!!
Sometimes vacation is not worth what you come back to! LOL

Have a great day!!

Everyone makes carbs out to be evil, which is annoying. I love a good piece of bread!

Yesterday's fast was the usual - roasted chicken thigh with salad for lunch and baked salmon with vegetables for dinner. Lots of vegetables this week. I made some cole slaw the other day with just white vinegar, water-sauteed some swiss chard with lime juice and spices last night, and had some beets I had roasted on Sunday. It was filling and healthy, under 500.

Now we're out of salmon so I have to see who has fish on sale!

I eat the single serving cup ones of the mac and cheese as my hubby is not a fan either. LOL

Like I said, I eat like a 3-5 year old. It's a struggle sometimes as I love carbs and all that is bad for me.

Your foods sound great! Especially the mac and cheese - I haven't had that in ages. My husband doesn't particularly like pasta (I know! Who doesn't???) so I rarely make it when our son isn't home.

You gals eat so healthy!

My Fast Day for Monday was

Lunch
1/2 Ham Steak
1/2 cup Peas

Dinner
3 oz. Chix Breast
1/2 Cup Mac and Cheese

If I remember right it was around 490 Calories, but then I had to have my 10oz. fountain soda for 95 more. emoticon

I swear I eat like a 3 year old!! I wish I liked more veggies and healthy stuff, but I am what some call a "SuperTaster" and am very fussy. I try everything and have been able to force myself to eat some things but for the most part I will just work with it!!

Yesterday was 477 calories. We didn't go shopping yet to restock the fridge since the power outage, so lunch was a vending machine granola bar for 190 calories, and dinner was salmon steak with a few carrots and half an onion - i.e. the veggies that don't go bad!

I added in another fast day this week because I went off the rails on Thursday night eating A LOT of cookies. Yowie!

So no breakfast yesterday, lunch was baby spinach salad with canned salmon and light mayonnaise. Dinner was a baked chicken thigh with 2 carrots. Around 550 calories.

I had lunch out today with dessert, and am going to a gala tonight so that will be lots of eating and drinking, so I will do a fast tomorrow, too.

Today's Meals:

Lunch -
2 slices 40cal. Nature's Own Wheat Bread
2oz. Lean Deli meat
1 slice 3/4 oz. Cheese
Mustard

Dinner
1 Cup Rice with Grilled Chix Breast

Snack
10oz. Pepsi
1 cup 35 Cal. Smart one Popcorn

Total today will be 586 - I know it is my 95cal. fountain soda putting me near 600 but I am just not ready to give that up yet, so I am trying to stay under or around 600 on my Fast days right now. I was pretty proud of myself today as my sister called me at 11:30am and was in a bad accident, totaled her car and was on the way by ambulance to hospital. I was doing a payroll for my job and I have a meeting this evening so I was already having a hectic day. I rushed out to hospital and by the time I was done it was 1:30pm, I had nothing but water and wanted to hit up a drive thru so bad, but I didn't I stuck to my plan. So that for me is an accomplishment! LOL
My sister is doing okay btw...she has some strains and sprains, but for the shape of her car, she is lucky she walked away.

Have a great week everyone!

Today's fast day meals:

Lunch:
Celery, raw, 2.5 stalk, large (11"-12" long) 26 cal
Cucumber (peeled), 0.5 medium 12 cal
Hellmann's , Light Mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp, 2 serving 70 cal
StarKist Chunk Light Tuna in Water (5 oz can = 4 oz tuna), 4 oz 90 cak
LUNCH TOTALS: 198

Dinner:
Rainbow Trout (fish), 6 oz 255 cal
Cauliflower, cooked, 1 cup (1" pieces) 29 cal
DINNER TOTALS: 284

Day Totals: 481

My Thursday Fast Day

Lunch: Small Grilled Chix Salad

Dinner : 2oz. Lean Deli Turkey - 1 Slice bread - 1 slice American Cheese - Grilled

Snack - 10 oz. Pepsi - 1 cup Smart Food Lo Cal Popcorn

Total was just over 600 Calories so not my best day. As I said I am very fussy eater, I don't like many veggies, no seafood at all, so I struggle with healthy eating and just try to eat what I like in smaller quantities on my Fast Days. Trying to find food that stays with me so I don't feel hungry and being that I like mostly carb rich foods, it is hard some days. My husband and son like everything and are always cooking something new and experimenting in the kitchen. They make me try everything they make, as I really want to expand my horizons, and some things surprise me and I like them and others, I just have the worst gag reflex and can't stop gagging....it's embarrassing really to be so limited on my taste buds.

I am on my 4th week and I have lost 3.5lbs. I know that is much slower than some people do, but I am just happy to be losing again. Slow loss is at least a loss....I have to remind myself daily to just try and remain positive and not let it get me down. I see others on the Facebook 5:2 Group I am in losing a lot more than I am. I am the turtle, I lose slow, but I also realize my food choices are not the best, but they are what I will stick to so even though I don't eat perfectly at least I am losing.

Have a nice weekend!!

I've gotten to the point where my weekday lunches are the same nearly every single day - salad w/protein and balsamic vinegar. Last week the protein was chicken thighs, this week is feta cheese. Every day. So that lunch works for both my fast day and regular day. For my weekend fast day sometimes it's salad, sometimes it's an egg or two and a piece of toast or whatever is in the house as long is it's around 200 calories. My fast day dinner is also pretty much the same every time - baked fish or steamed shrimp and roasted vegetables. Pickles for a quick munch. No breakfast. For awhile I wasn't eating much fish, so I like having it now twice a week because I figure it's healthy for me.

I like what everyone else is doing and I keep thinking I'm going to change up what I'm eating - add some cottage cheese into the mix or something else, but I've gotten into a routine and it's so easy right now to do it, so I haven't rocked the boat yet.

I just eat pretty boring stuff at home now, and we go out to eat about once a week, so that's where I get my food excitement! This past weekend we went to a Japanese mall here in NJ and ate a big bowl of beef udon noodle soup and shared some fried chicken thigh pieces. SO yummy. And that was the only meal of the day... My sister makes a lot of weight watchers or skinnytaste recipes and I always think, wow, I should try something with sauces or something more interesting. But.... I don't. Then I would have to add things to my shopping list, and put more effort into cooking. emoticon

Still experimenting and going to try 4:3 this week with modified fast days on Tuesday (done), Thursday (today) and Sunday. Getting discouraged with the daily increase in my weights recently (I know I shouldn't check daily).

So today:

3/4 cup whole milk plain yogurt with 1/4 granola

1.5 cups spinach leaves with 8 grape tomatoes, 1/4c hummus and 1/4 c feta.

Half a pickle.

Total = 525.

Spiegy, it sounds like you eat similarly on non-fast days? I'm still struggling with figuring out how/when to eat on NFDs. The FastDiet book doesn't give much guidance at all (it seems to say eat what/when you want just don't go overboard). The Obesity Code gave a lot more structured advice.

Today's fast is another baby spinach salad with 2 oz feta cheese, balsamic vinegar and some cut up red pepper, cucumber and 5 manzanilla olives. Actually, this is lunch every day this week as we bought over a pound of bulgarian feta cheese this weekend that we're eating our way through. On non-fast days I add an apple as a dessert.

Dinner will be about 6 ounces of salmon steak and roasted zucchini and cauliflower.

Happy Tuesday!

Today I am doing it a bit backwards and eating more calories at lunch than dinner as I was starving, but my lunch stays with me a long time.

Lunch - I had a small grilled chicken salad - Lettuce, chix, cukes, a very small amount of cheese
(I am not a fan of most veggies)

Dinner will be 3-4 oz. hamsteak and 2/3 cup canned potatoes

My snack as usual is my 10oz. of Pepsi

Which should bring me in at about 551 calories for the day.

I am happy with that, as you will see as I post my foods they will be the same and most often not the health foods I should be eating as I am finicky. But I will do the best I can to remain in my calorie range with the foods I do like, as I want this to be a way of life for me and I won't stick to it if I am trying to eat stuff I hate.

Happy Fasting!! emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the advice Spiegy! Yeah 1 of my 500 cal meal "bundle" is eggs and avocado, among a few other things. I think I will save the dark chocolate for my non fasting days - you're right about that. Trial and error will be my method. I don't like chicken much but I do eat fish and all other forms of meat. I just don't want to prepare those on fast days (and can't seem to plan ahead well to make things in advance - some days I may have leftovers which could work).

We will see how tomorrow goes - my first 2 day on the 5:2 plan. Haven't decided yet what I will eat.

Today's fast day will be:

Lunch - Baby spinach salad with 1 hard boiled egg (xtra large), 1 ounce feta cheese, some red pepper, balsamic vinegar

Dinner - 1 small chicken leg (I'll weigh it-planning for 4 oz), 3 cooked carrots

Snacks - 2 large celery stalks, 3 dill pickles

Drinks will just be water or plain tea

Depending on the weight of the chicken it should be around 500. I may swap out the carrots for cauliflower, but that shouldn't make any difference...

I'm with Penny on about a 200 calorie lunch and 300 calorie dinner. Also sticking with proteins and veggies.

I'm not a low carb person although I tend to eat less starch than I used to just because of the calorie count. But Jodi I see that on your experimental trial run you had granola, pretzels, hummus, and chocolate, all of which are kind of high carb and high calorie. Do you think you might be more full if you subbed some of that out for more straight protein or a fat like a quarter or half an avocado? Do you eat poultry, fish or eggs? I think you get more bang for your buck on fast days with protein than with carbs and higher cal foods. I save my dark chocolate for non-fast days, so I still pretty much have a piece 5 days a week - but for those 2 fast days it's all about the best food that fuels me for the day.

Jodi - Wow, sounds like you have a well thought out plan in place to get you going. That is more than half the battle right there. Good for you!! I am sure you will be a success!! I am playing around with foods a bit to see which fill me up and stay with me longest on the fast days. I am trying to eat around 200 cal. at lunch and then 300 at dinner. I have 2 issues, my first being I am a major major fussy/finicky eater and trust me I don't want to be and I try everything, as my husband will eat anything and makes me! LOL....But anyways my other one is, I love my Pepsi, so on fast days I am trying to cut out the Pepsi altogether. Typically I have 1-2 sodas a day, on fast days I am only having 10oz. of it and hopefully can eventually eliminate it altogether on those days.

It sounds like you are well on your way to seeing some pounds drop. Good for you and I am happy that I recently rejoined this group as well. It is nice to have some people to talk to that are on the same page as I am.

Have a nice weekend everyone!!

New the the group and haven't started 5:2 yet (starting officially on Sunday). I have been following the obesity code recommendations for IF for almost 8 weeks and want to try to change to 5:2. I had been fasting 36 hours once a week (have done 8 of them, successful on 4 of them - the other 4 I had to eat at around 30 hours to be able to fall asleep). And 16-20 hour fasts in between (with 1 completely off day). So I'm thinking the 500 cal days will be piece of cake for me (we'll see.....). The biggest benefit I have seen is a lack of hunger (after the first few weeks)! Love that!.

Interesting to see comments about what to call this - I have been pondering that myself for awhile. I have been calling the strategy "intermittent fasting" and the days that I have fasted for at least 20 hour "fasting days". So if I stick to that I would call the low cal day a fasting day. I plan to only eat 1 meal on those days - that works so much better for me than small amounts a few times during the day. So essentially my plan would be to not eat after dinner (around 6-6:30pm) until the next day at dinner around 6pm when I would eat about 500 cals at 1 time. So that would be a 24 hour fast in my mind.

Soooooo

I did a practice run (haha) today and here's what I ate (first meal of the day at 3pm so kinda fasting; will be eating regular dinner later).

1 cup whole milk plain yogurt 170cals
with 1/4 cup Bear Naked granola 140 cals
5.5 flat pretzels 50 cals
with 1/4 cup hummus 120 cals
1 regular fat cheese wheel 70 cals
3 squares of dark (70% cacao) chocolate 60 cals

total - 610 (I had miscalculated when I was deciding what to eat and thought it was 510 - oh well, too late now!)

I am not stuffed (or even really full) but satiated enough that I think I would be fine without eating for another 12 -16 hours (overnight) if I were doing it for real.

I find that I should eat high (natural) fat and protein on low cal days. Veggies do not curb my hunger at all - so saving veggies for non fasting days....

Thoughts welcome!

I am glad to be part of this group.

Jodi

I've been doing it really simply lately since I've been eating it on fast days - last night I just put it on a pan sprayed with Pam, then put some spices on it - salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, garlic powder. On a separate pan I roasted veggies - cauliflower and carrots with the same spices.

Lemon, thyme and mustard is nice on it, and teriyaki sauce is great - even just some soy sauce with a little honey or sugar mixed in with some garlic.

How are you? You have been quiet lately - good to see you back!

LOL...I am so fussy, I would not even attempt some of those foods. It's terrible what a finicky person I am. I do try things, just have no success, I just gag and gag. It's embarrassing really.
I am working on trying to find what is going to work on the Fast Days for me and fill me up the best. Right now I am pretty much sticking with boneless chicken and some type of veggies, or ham and some type of veggies. Week 3 starting today. I will work it out eventually.

I always forget to get cottage cheese, yet I like it and it's great calorie/protein-wise. I have to add it to next week's shopping list.

Today's fast day is something new - I'm roasting some carrots and winter squash, onion and a little bit of garlic and I'm going to use that as the base for a carrot-squash ginger soup. Maybe I'll throw a little turmeric in it too, I'll see how it tastes with just the ginger. A little bit of chicken thigh on the side for protein. Soup just sounded like a good idea since it's a chilly, rainy day today...

I'm trying something new for dinner, too - we bought monkfish yesterday which I've never had before. So I will roast that, as well as some cauliflower with spices.

UPDATE: Wow, the idea of these meals sounded SO much better than the reality! My carrot soup - meh - the squash was a new kind I never saw before and it ended up being very bitter, so I didn't use it in the soup after I roasted it. The soup itself needed some fat I think - maybe coconut milk or some butter or olive oil, none of which I was going to do for a fast day meal. Dinner - same thing - it's a nice fish but I just roasted it with spices and it needed something more - maybe to be in a fish curry, or made with olives/tapenade or something flavorful and a little more interesting. Definitely not the kind of fish just to spice and roast the way I do with salmon or whole trout. Oh well.

I do not like the terms fasting or feeding/ feasting too. I call them lower calorie days and then in calorie range days. On lower calorie days, for lunch I usually eat 1/2 cup cottage cheese and fruit or greek yogurt, fruit & 1/2 granola bar with protein. For supper I usually eat a spinach salad with other vegetables, dressing and with tuna or chicken. I try to get as much protein as I can and low carbs. I only drink water or plain herbal tea on low calorie days.

I just mean that since we eat a little on those days it's not a true "no food at all" fast. When I first started here people were calling them MF days vs. feeding/feast days, so I stuck with "modified fast." Although for some reason I dislike "feeding" or "feasting" days. Sounds weird to my ear.

But we can just call them fast days. No difference.

Spiegy - You eat very well!! Good for you.

Today is my fast day....I am having 1/2 a slice of NY Style Cheese Pizza for lunch and a Small Grilled chicken salad for dinner. I don't typically do the Pizza but they are having it for lunch and I was able to work it in at less than 200 calories so that worked for me.

Happy Fasting!!

Yesterday I ate a spinach salad for lunch with 3 ounces of chicken thigh, 5 green olives, some red pepper and some cucumber, with balsamic vinegar as dressing.

Dinner was half of a baked salmon steak with swiss chard sauteed with .5 Tbs olive oil, lime juice and garlic powder, salt and pepper.
