I delete activity tracking from my exercise, I walk 30 + minutes every morning, I count it, yard work, I count, hard housework, I count, sparks videos I count, if I do stretches, I usually count the minutes. I go to the gym 3 times a week, 60 minutes senior aerobics, and it is exercise, I count it, I dont count when I go to a store, unless it is to get my walk in pretty sure I only count exercise but will take care, but seldom miss at least 120 minutes exercise a day,

I count my gardening if I am weeding, cleaning out the flower beds, digging etc to get the beds ready for planting. I also count the spring cleaning I'm in process of doing, but not the every day/weekly things. Hope this is the right way to count my exercises.

My Fitbit has the heart rate and breaks it down to different zones. I have put on almost 10,000 steps and had no fitness minutes and the same amount of steps with minutes. I als do not count house cleaning or gardenin unless it is mopping the floor, scrubbing or digging, raking etc.

My old pedometer counts "activity" as at least 10 minutes continuous activity like walking. I count that--cause it was intentional! LOL Many times, I will KEEP walking even after arrival to make sure I hit 10 minutes!

I get all of my exercise, elliptical, strength training for upper body, and for arthritis early in the day before I do anything else. I have only been walking 30 minutes on my elliptical to get my heart rate up and if I do heavy cleaning, then I count that, but I don't count other things, just what I do that I consider exercise. I watch the videos on here as they are not that hard to do!

I don't count my routine daily steps in my fitness count. The only walking that I count is on the treadmill. I do count my treadmill steps in my total step count, but it is not in my fitness count .Believe me, the treadmill is intentional exercise, especially on my weight-training days, LOL.
However, I don't count any of my other daily activities in my fitness -- house work, yard work, or anything else. Only what I plan and maintain as a routine. Everything else is "an extra."

I had been preposting my intake as I plan everything I will eat and drink way in advance
I will post after my final bite of the evening every night during challenges..

I have a "set" exercise program that changes about every 4 weeks. I usually work out 90-100 minutes every morning. I haven't been counting cleaning and gardening. I will begin to count those minutes also.

Good morning. I count walking, dancing, hooping, and my weight lifting on my total gym (3x a week pretty intense, you should see the muscles that are forming, lol). Plan to do some work with my dvds-- Richard Simmons, Kathy Smih, Slim in 6, Hip Hop Abs, and maybe some yoga I have golds gym exercise bands and if we go out of town those and a couple of exercise dvds are going with me, lol.

Anyone having a problem with their exercise tracker? Mine has been adding mileage (not the calories burned) when I didn't even walk. It says I walked over 52 miles last week and I was nowhere near that. I am just going to delete the "miles in a week" goal and straight track it.

Sometimes I forget to activities like heavy cjavascript:void(0)leaning or gardening because I think of them as something I have to do anyway. Most of my intentional exercise is timed through a phone app while I'm walking.

I do put "intentional exercise" into my schedule every day, but I've been trying a variety of exercises recently to try to find which ones work best for me.

A few weeks ago after a snow blizzard and several hours of shoveling snow, I jokingly ask my family how many calories we could lose with all that shoveling. I was pleased to find snow shoveling in the tracker - so, I did count it that day - my muscles sure felt it for a few days afterward!

I do list heavy cleaning because I sweep and mop a big school gym most every week. I burn a lot of calories and get paid for it. LOL I also clean the church school, but I don't count wiping down desks and mirrors or cleaning toilets. I also garden and count hoeing, but not planting. Wii Walk It Out is my favorite indoor exercise. And I walk park trails or push a lawn mower for outdoor walking and attend aerobic class twice a week.

I have a Garmin Vivo and sit most of the day at work. I go on walks at work. I walk in the halls, I work at a university, I go outside and walk around campus. It's a beautiful campus. Sometimes I walk down to the Rose Garden. It's at least a 30 minute walk. There is also a group that is going to be walking for 50 minutes on Wednesdays and I have that scheduled already. At night I do either a DVD as I have about 15 to 20, sometimes I get on our stationary bike, and I have weights at home that I use. 2 of my DVD's is the 21 day fit with a whole weeks worth of training and includes yoga for Sunday. This is my exercise plan for this challenge. I haven't been exercising this last week so that is why I joined this challenge. I am the kind of person that doesn't like to let people down so I have to stick to my plan so I won't let my team down. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

My intentional exercise will be some walking and stretching. I can only do minimal activity right now because of my sciatic nerve problem. It is getting better, but It will take a while for it to become less Inflamed. When it does, I will be able to do more activity. Until then I will do as much as my body will allow me to do.

I count my steps which determines my exercise in a day.
The minutes I post are my intentional exercise. I use Map My Fitness to track time and mileage. When I do things like yard work, etc I also track the approximate time.

I have always counted my walking each morning and the strength or dance things I do for over 10 min but never thought of counting such things as house cleaning or gardening as those are chores I need to do each week. I will \be more mindful about including such activities into my plan

On my fitbit zip when I am doing any type of exercise including cleaning I write down, my calories, miles, time, steps from my zip then at the end write them down again and subtract and the difference is exercise minutes, steps, miles, calories, It takes extra time but I don't know any other way of doing it.

I count my workouts and non-regular cleaning in France e.g. Sweeping all of the downstairs or mopping the same, or gardening as that tends to be cardio based.

I wear a fit bit to keep up with my exercise. I walk my dog between 3 and 5 miles every day even in bad weather.

I have made a conscious decision to count exercise for the time element but not the calories consumed element as Ceri says there's cleaning and cleaning?
Gardening and gardening. There's no distinction between putting your back into it and moving planters and compost about and quietly weeding. Always the movement is there but.......

I laugh a little at these things too. Walking is normally cardio because it raises the heart rate but I've just spent the week on holiday with mum(86). We have walked for miles each day. Round the towns and malls we've visited. For her at her speed it would be cardio. Do I get to count it as strength because my movements had to be so laboured to keep down to her pace. I am just delighted that we got out for so long each day

I count activity on my phone or FitBit only if I am trying to do exercise or doing something other than normal. When I walk to the bus, a long distance in a store, or just going for a walk I count it. I don't count normal steps, or just walking around the house as exercise. When I walk to the bus, I walk fast so I count it. I just started counting cleaning, when I'm actually doing something hard, like scrubbing the floor. I feel weird about counting packing, even though I'm moving and stretching, just because I'm sitting on the floor and not really getting my heart rate up.

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.

I count

any walking around the house or marching in place if it is longer than 10 minutes
my PT for my Achilles and my Knee
any yard work
water aerobics
my walks outside
weights if and when I use them (I don't like them much so I tend to skip doing them)

I don't count my cleaning, just never felt right about that. This is something that I try to do daily so my body is used to it. And...I am not doing it at a Speedy Gonzales pace.

It might surprise you to know that playing Wii, playing an instrument, painting, heavy cleaning, playing with the kids, darts, acting, officiating at a sporting event are included! Look for things you may already be doing that you are not including in your exercise.

emoticon Warning - we over estimate the intensity and calories burned from exercise! For instance when you see something like heavy cleaning and house cleaning lumped together here on Sparkpeople, there is a BIG difference in the calories burned and actual amount of exercise done between heavy/house cleaning.

Please distinguish between intentional exercise and activity.

'Intentional exercise' - that which we do above and beyond our normal activities. For instance if you are a mail carrier what 'intentional exercise' do you after work?

emoticon Tracking Devices - Questions about counting minutes from devices, i.e. fitbit, spark tracker etc. Those minutes are activity minutes, NOT all are exercise minutes, only count your intentional exercise. Repeat - Only count exercise minutes NOT activity minutes as recorded by fitbit or spark activity tracker. We ONLY COUNT intentional exercise when adding fitness minutes to our team's total.

For example, I have a fitbit but I time my walks and workouts to track my exercise minutes. Overall Leader JMCADE says - I have a fitbit, and when I know I am heading out for a walk, I set the timer so that it tracks it as exercise minutes. Any minutes that are done for strength exercises are added separately.

As a general rule, to count as Aerobic you need to get your heart rate up for at least 10 minutes. Strength training is easier to time. Stretching counts as fitness also but only if it is intentional and lasts for more than a few minutes.

Does your exercise plan include 'intentional exercise'?

Get out and have fun today! emoticon emoticon emoticon
