This challenge has definitely been a factor in me losing weight. Food tracking has never been my strong point until now. Also I am exercising twice as much as usual.

Since I have started with this team, I have been tracking every day. I use to only track Monday through Friday and never get on Spark People on the weekends. Now I have this streak going because I am tracking on the weekends for this challenge. Thanks for keeping me on track, teammates!!!

Thanks ASH2HEALTH, I agree that often when I've done a lot of activity I do need a few more calories.

Cathy - I have mine set to adjust based on my activity level. If you are below the new calorie minimum, I believe that means you should eat some more. I know some days I really appreciate that if I worked exceptionally hard - my body needs those extra calories. I try and fill in with more protein - as I'm usually borderline low in that area. I always try and stay within the calorie range though.

I always use a tracker now. I have been a grazer and have no clue how much I ate in a day. this was a real eye opener for me and has really helped with the weight loss

I have a question about tracking. I have it set to fitness tracking which adds to my calorie goal depending on how much exercise I've done. I usually come below the new calorie goal. What does everyone else do? Just wondering.

Tracking works for me. It helps me plan meals and also make sure I get a balance of nutrients, particularly calcium, sodium, fats, protein and carbs.
Particularly useful are the favourites, recents and groupings, as well as the ability to copy meals from one day to another to save time.

I'm pretty obsessive about tracking. It keeps me mostly accountable. Right now I'm loving the scanning on the mobile app. I just scan the bar code and the app does the rest. No more searching.

Agree with Silverwitch - I prefer to track using the app, which is much more user-friendly than the website. When I can't get internet or can't connect to the app (happened last night for some reason), I'm in trouble!

Wanting to track my food is how I found SP . It has been great. I regret when I run off the rails and don't do it. I use the phone app to track what I eat. It is helpful and with me as it doubles for a pedometer

Last year I lost 30 pounds in 3 months. Yes I did nutrition track and it works! I am glad we are tracking and I am focused. I know from experience I need to track to keep it off.

The few times I stopped tracking, I regretted it. So I always track now. I still have to watch my fats, but everything else is good.

I do most of my nutrition tracking with the mobile app on my phone since it's so convenient. Then I review my nutrient goals on the SP website because it shows were I fall I the daily range for a week. I've struggle to get enough carbs & fiber most days.

I do better when I track. I keep it simple and sometimes I just put down the calories. It helps me stay in my calorie range.

I don't think tracking takes a lot of time of you click the "save to favorites" when you start using it. Pretty soon all your usual foods are saved, and pop up quickly when you type a key word.

I haven't always tracked when maintaining, but do when I am trying to lose. Tracking my plan ahead for the day helps me stick to the plan, and also I know our I am going to be high or low for the day. Then I know if I need to adjust, or have room for a snack. When maintaining, I usually don't track, but weigh regularly and start tracking again if I start drifting up.

I have tracked my food on and off for years. I like tracking because it keeps me accountable and if I happen to over eat I know right away and can make adjustments through our day.

I am tracking everything. The app makes it easy. Tracking before I eat makes it easy to stay on plan. Tracking after I eat keeps me accountable. If I know that I will be going somewhere, I also preplan and block the calories off so I can enjoy a treat.

I do love to cook and entering in amount on the recipe calculator is tedious, but doable.

The tracker has kept me from going overboard.

I love tracking my food. I love knowing exactly how many calories I am eating a day, but do add 100 calories mentally, in case i eat an ounce or so more than I thought. Tracking works best when measuring everything you eat. If I didn't track my food, i know I would be eating too many calories a day.

Sometimes tracking gets hard because it gets monotonous and nitpicky. But that's kind of the point - if you care enough to eat something, you should care enough to track it! At the same time, it can also be a challenge if you do a lot of home cooking and eating natural foods because it's hard to get exact calories from something you made from scratch with eyeballed ingredient amounts -- and even if you did measure, it's hard to measure that you're eating exactly 1/10 of the amount you made. But I really like nutrition tracking because it forces me to be conscious of what I'm eating at all times. If I want 1 M&M, I can have it - and then I track it. And then I know.

In the past, I have tracked all nutrition before eating it. It's a pain in the butt, but is the single BEST way to stay accountable if you're having trouble with that.

Good luck, everyone!
