I like the scan feature here on SP..but it's not all that reliable..I have scanned foods and compared the label to what the sac says and it is way off a lot of the time..so it's easier to write it down on paper as I prepare foods!

I try to track as I eat but there are always times that it isn't possible so I write it down for later. I mostly track from my phone & I love that we can scan UPCs, much quicker plus you get Sparkpoints for verifying the nutrition info!

I track on another site that includes more vitamins & minerals & lists the amount of Omega 3 & 6 and list what you need to make it a complete protein. It says the % of Omegas you have. If you do not have enough of a certain vitamin or mineral you can find a list in order of 100 foods that have the most in it. It also has vitamin k and vitamin k 1 separately. Spark has it listed together. K 1 is Potassium, vitamin K is not. I need to know the exact amount daily of vitamin K for my xarelto blood thinners. I get daily hospital blood tests to prove it. If it is wrong my diet & medication can be changed daily.

It has been pretty easy to get in the "rut" of logging food and water daily and it really keeps me accountable. With the weight challenge and being able to earn points for the team if I stay within my calories, I find I am even more accountable--don't want to let anyone done--especially myself! I have been tracking for over two months--and plan to keep on. I am inspired by seeing the trackers on people comments that show a good deal of weight lost by those who track! The Sparkpeople app is a real gem and has so many different resources to help you succeed--if you take advantage of them! It has really helped to motivate me.

I do track when it is part of a challenge - not on SparkPeople though as I have a Samsung app I use. I have to start tracking all my meals and not just during challenges. I also think I may start using SparkPeople

I haven't tracked in over a year-- maybe 2. So this week has made me begin that practice again. I am using the site's tracking section. Somedays I'm way under and have to step it up.
Other days I'm a couple hundred over. I never realized there was such a large swing in my numbers. This is eye opening.

looking for friends to connect with, get to know, and encourage each other along this journey. :-)

I track ALL of my foods and waters..they just don't show up here on the site ..so I use paper and pencil..

Some days I go over my set limit as I work out so hard that I KNOW I need to eat a little more or suffer from too little of eating..

I track my food and water nearly everyday. When I haven't done my tracking I tend to get into trouble and lose my focus and then the weight goes up.

I track all my food and water every day and have since I joined SP two years ago next month. I try to stay within my calorie and nutrient ranges every day, especially cholesterol, fiber and sodium. I still weigh and measure almost all of my food too. It keeps me accountable and on track.

I have spark tracking for 2 years now. I think it really helps me to get rid of excuses! When I ain I go back and look what was my daily sodium mmmm I like to run the program and see if I can hit all meet. I don't do that often usually over in sodium and under in fiber and protein. Carbs I usually meet or over. My goal is to get all meets! Maybe this is that challenge! I'll take all ideas on how to hit 90 on my protein in the 100s on carbs and 1,000 sodium. Feel free to sparksmail me any ideas.

Rapunzel,

Sometimes I do the same thing, but it's because I like it so much. If you don't want to try and figure it out. Let me know and I will help you through that. It can be intimidating and I know how I felt when I was figuring things out. I was LOST! But, by God's Grace, We (God and I) have this figured out. So email me and let me know and I will be more than happy to help you. I will do the ground work and you can save it in your favorites.

Blessings!

If you get a digital food scale that has the ounces and grams on it, it's more accurate, I have found, than anything else I have tried.

On Sunday I track my food for the whole week. This help me with grocery shopping so I can create a list and stick to it. It also saves money at the grocery store because I am not buying extra things because I know exactly what I need. It also saves on gas because i am not running to the store for something for dinner.

I track most days, or, at least, journal my food. I find the tracker very helpful. If I put packaged food in glass or plastic jars, I post and paste the nutritional info., per serving, on the outside, so it is easy to use and multiply, if necessary. I feel, I just have to be as accurate as I can be, as I used to go over fat cals., frequently, and I am trying to be on the low side of carbs. This challenge is really helping me.

I track every day every meal unless i am having a bad fibromyalgia day like today. then i usually track at night because i do not eat enough witch i know is bad but the fatigue is so bad it lands me in bed for a while to all day. but i track every day usially 5-7 days a week. usually its a busy day thst makes mecflare so bad i have to sleep so much. but at the end of the day i really like to pull up my report an look an see if ibam close on all my suger, proteins, ect. thats really simple to do if you use the phone app witch i found i use half the time an then come online with my fire half time on my good days an bad lol. i am here today but i woke up around 6am in pain coukdnt sleep got ul dragging witch is normal in morning took my meds an while i was waiting the 30 minutes after meds to eat i got hit sdo hard with fatigue then came the i could hardly hold my eyes open so i went to bed here i set lol i woke at 1am. so my one thing i do when i go grocery shopping helps me. i take mt phone to kithen any new food i havnt had before i scan it an put it in my tracker this goes for any food that for some reason i know never made it to my tracker. then i put it away. any food that did noit come up on the scan or did but was recorded wrong compared to my label i set aside then oncee groceries are put away i will grab a drink (diet coke, diet dr pepper, or water lol i just cant give up my soda lol) and curl up on couch an quickly get thoughs recorded. this doesnt happen every time i shop but i find its such a help. then usually i have tobtake a shower ro cool off vegas excessive heat warnings temps 116 - 117 yesterrday was 116 lol. then i go take a nap. it is such a huge help. but my curiosity always gets me end of day i alqays have to see my final numbers an see if i need less suger more protein ect. my problem is always makingv my minimal calorie range most days today looking like its gonna be one 1:32 an havnt had anything to eat lol an feeling like i need to go back to bed. but i wont to try tto stay awake an get out to the pool for exceris

I have tracked from the beginning of SP in 2013. Even when I go over, I track just to remind myself why I am not losing or if i am gaining. Tracking to me is essential. There have been times that I didnt track as well, but got right back to it.

This is something I usually do now. My tip suggestion would be that sometimes tracking in advance can be really helpful for making sure I'm getting all of my macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. That way I can make adjustments as needed because I don't use the SparkPeople meal plan option currently.

Writing down what I eat is very helpful. Having an idea of how many calories is also useful, but tracking numbers is an overwhelming nightmare for me. I've reached the point where I will not do a diet that requires tracking numbers on anything - I simply don't have the energy for it and can't maintain it as a lifestyle. Maybe when my health improves it won't be so overwhelming. Routine tasks that used to be the automatic extras in a day - like even getting dressed some days, dishes, laundry - it takes all I have to try to keep up with those and it's a constant battle.

Last season I tracked what I ate simply by keeping a log of what I ate and when. Staying within calorie range wasn't a part of it. I didn't do the calcium tracking. Over the last year, I've tried 3 times to use the Spark tracker and walked away in tears each time. Part of my problem is the specialty foods - I'm gluten free, sugar free with very little processed foods. Much of my food is stored in jars, some purchased in bulk and I have no labels. I have to enter much of it by hand because it's not in the tracker. It's a time consuming nightmare. And when I measure in cups, all I can find is ounces or grams which is a foreign language to me and totally useless. I used the Sparks tracker back in 2010-2012 and while I didn't enjoy it, I could navigate it. I don't know if they changed it or I changed. I'm usually good at that kind of thing but I just can't get it.

Yesterday, I reluctantly tried again. Surprisingly, I got through it. So maybe there's hope. I've written down what I've eaten so far today but again, am going to have enter some foods by hand. Won't know if I'm on target or not till I get that done. I'm going to try even though I hate it for the sake of the team. This is by far the most difficult LTGL for me (with the exception of planned bedtime which is impossible with my health issues).

Tracking sometimes is a big benefit as it makes me stop and think ... "you know, you're going to have to record this bite of ______". Sometimes it's not worth the effort it would take to find my phone or bring up the tracking page on the computer

Nutrient tracker and my kitchen scale are the number on tools I use on my weight loss journey, if I cannot get to the electronic tracker, I keep a small tablet in my purse to write down what I eat so I can record it later. I am not always within my nutrition guidelines but I always track.

Being positive is a choice. My Mantra: “Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day." Each morning seek the positive and you will have a good day. Always remember, “Your only competition is YOU.”

How are you at nutrition tracking? Is it something you usually do, or does this week's challenge get you going in the right direction?

Do you have any tips or encouragement to share?
