My dentist said to see a orthodontist recently, so, I walked to orthodontist, need $6,000 work done, takes 18 months, including braces, they allow monthly payments when you go for the monthly treatments. I got referred to a hospital oral surgeon to do skin & bone grafting first, hospital is covered and I think my extended health pays 50% on orthodontist. I will look into it & confirm with my insurance. I do not know how long I will have to wait for hospital work, orthodontist only need insurance confirmed to start. I got outdoors in the sunshine, but it is going to cost me $$$

I try to walk every day, even in the rain unless it is a extremely bad storm! I walked today.

I get outdoors every day rain, snow or shine. I have 2 dogs and because we live in an apartment need to walk them. We do that at least 3 times a day and sometimes more if they decide they need to go more often. Each walk lasts at least 15 minutes for short ones and 45 - 60 for long walks. All depends on the dogs and the weather

This challenge just hit me at the wrong time. I am in the midst of selling our Lake Tahoe vacation home, and the potential buyers want to close escrow by Sept.1. I have three weeks to move everything out of a fully furnished 3 Bdrm., 2.5 baths, home. Oh, and did I mention a garage?
Anyway, I have no trouble with 10 min. out in the fresh air. I, almost always, have my breakfast out on the deck during the summer months, enjoying my coffee, while reading the paper. It is so peaceful in the foothills, here in the high-desert. I always spend time outside, watering my potted plants, and others, either at night, or early in the morning, a job I really enjoy. However, I have found little time for long walks, lately, which I also love. I will get my time outside, even if it is limited the next three weeks. Love this challenge!!!T
Thank you, Diane, for the link with the outdoor exercises. Will try some tomorrow. emoticon emoticon

One of my favorite challenges so far--I am outside a good bit of the day anyway. I walk in the mornings--usually about an hour. Then I usually walk outside from my office to other locations at work. I walk the dogs once or twice a day--again outside. Today I worked int he garden for several hours. I thought those days were over--had only been able to do an hour or so at a time, but since being on Spark for 3 months now, my energy levels have greatly improved and I don't find it a problem to stay out longer. I do stay inside at dusk--mosquitos love me!

I bike outside 3 days a week and take a brief walk most afternoons at work. Other days I do some puttering around the yard (little each day so I don't get stuck using up hours on the weekend doing plant maintenance).

Working to see the good around me.

I love being outdoors; though it's much easier in the summer. My husband and I both were reared on farms, so the outdoor life comes naturally. Nevertheless strong winds and low temperatures can make even walking outdoors difficult and unpleasant at times.

I try to make it outside whatever the conditions because it always helps my mood and lessens the effects of SAD. The sunshine is indeed better than medicine for many human woes.

In the summer I spend a lots of times outside because I live on the lake my husband and I go swimming and throwing the frisbee around in the water. We cayack we paddle boat and I got a paddle board for my b-day this year. Just about every day we are in the water.

We are outside from morning to evening at time. So this is my favorite challenge so far.

My body doesn't tolerate the heat well so I don't go outside unless it's 60 degrees or less or if it's super cloudy and VERY breezy. I overheat too fast and have had too many a close call with fainting so I do best to avoid it. I have to have fans on me at all times even when I exercise in my basement where it's cool :/

Do you usually spend time outside or do you make a plan and take action to get done?

Tell us how long you are outside and what you are doing. Do you have suggestions for other members?

I get outdoors most days, when the sun is shining I love going out on my deck, I usually putter out there, dusting the pollen off of the furniture, dead heading my plants, or just enjoying the peace and solitude. If the weather is nice I enjoy a nice walk outside, sometimes DH and I will go on a nature trail, or walk around the waterfront. We try to find someplace that is enjoyable, I love walking on a beach. I love going to yard sales on Saturday mornings, I pick up a lot of inexpensive books that way! When the grand kids visit we get outside a lot, tossing a Frisbee, playing ball, tag etc.

I LOVE emoticon this challenge !!
I like to spend some time in the mornings listening to the quiet, then the birds begin chirping, then the sunrise. Then I spend at least 15-20 minutes out in the sun in the evenings to soak in a little Vitamin D typically anyway. This time of year, I've been picking veggies out of the garden, filling the bird baths, watering the flowers. But other times of the year, I walk the dog, or take a walk on the beach at low tide and look for shells.

_____

I usually spend my work-at-home time on my patio so it can sometimes be easy for me. Unfortunately, due to quitting smoking during this challenge, it can be a trigger for me to be out there.

When I'm out, it's hours at a time. These days, I've been trying to avoid it. So... This challenge has been so much harder.

This is one of the most difficult challenges for me. It's so hard I cried the first day - getting dressed is difficult and since I don't get out, I don't get fully dressed more than once or twice a week - just when I need to get mail and take out the garbage. I've never been an outdoor person. I can't yet walk for 10 minutes because of back and knee pain. I live in an apt. facing a parking lot. I am very, very lucky there is a picnic table near my door or I'd be lost as to how to do it. It's often occupied but so far I've been lucky to get it. If it wasn't for the encouragement from my team, I'd be sitting this one out - INDOORS!

What got me out the door the first day was being up early, looking out the window and seeing the sunrise. I grabbed my camera and took a few photos - gave me something to focus on.

That night I was up late and just wanted to get it over with so went out at midnight with my camera and looked for the moon. The search took me around half the apartment building complex and I discovered it was too cloudy so I played with taking pictures in the dark - the view screen showed black but close to trees or branches I could get leaves. Ended up slowly wandering around for 7 of my 10 minutes and rested on the bench for the other 3.

Yesterday I went out in the afternoon with a cooking magazine. My thought was I never step away from the computer long enough to look at it inside and maybe I could mark anything I wanted to copy and then could give it away and declutter in the process. Didn't realize there were weight loss articles in there so read two that reinforced what I already know or believe. Never got to an actual recipe - that's for tomorrow.

Today, I went grocery shopping and commented to my friend how I was dreading the outdoor time when we were done. After shopping I often drop into bed - I'm exhausted and in pain. She commented, "doesn't the time you waited for me count?" Yes! I had waited outside for her and she was delayed by road construction. I also had walked through 3 parking lots and stood outside while the store clerk loaded my car with the groceries and then when I unloaded them. That was way more than 10 minutes. :)

Other suggestions - one of my back up plans is a crossword puzzle. Ideas mentioned on my team other than walking: reading, playing with the cat (or dog), watering garden or flowers, drawing, geocaching ( www.geocaching.com/ ), garage sales, cloud watching, people watching, star gazing, or literally - go fly a kite!

Several of my team members are finding this challenging as it's been raining where they live. One found a place with cover so she could sit and read without getting wet. Others have watched and tried to get in walks between showers.

Edit: Today it's my turn to get rain. 100% chance most of the day. My picnic bench is soaked with puddles of water on it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the chance of no rain between 2-3 pm will produce a rainbow I can chase with my camera. Not sure I can handle 10 min without a chair as the weather + yesterday's activity = fibro pain, but not writing today off yet.

In spring and summer I make a point of eating outside when the weather is favorable. Also I get outside walking.

We camp a lot and are outside most of my awake time.

In winter at home I tend to be inside more than I should, so for me this is a good habit to keep.

But we usually go south in winter so overall I am outside a lot.
