I am so glad that I came across this thread. It is summer time and I do not like to eat much because it is so hot here in NC. This challenge may be just what I need to jump start this leg of my journey.

I have been doing protein smoothies for the last two weeks but I think I will incorporate the green smoothies, they are very filling because I add extra fiber to them

Jamba Juice has a "green smoothie" now...it's called "apples N green"...it has apple/strawberry juice, green veggie juice, etc...they consider it 3 fruit/veggie servings...

I wish I could do this. But at this time Its not possible. In the past I have tried green smoothies, they make you feel so good :)

Anyone else who's doing this should check out the documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" Its amazing. If you have Netflix, its available to watch online.

I tried adding spinach to my smoothie the other morning and it wasn't bad...once I get the blending process "down" I will be adding greens on a regular basis!!!

I haven't tried the green smoothie but now that I am learning to make smoothies, I will give it a try...I'll try it with spinach and some kale...I need to eat more greens...

Hi team, can someone give me some more info on the green smoothie and the 14 day challenge I would like to try it. Also does it increase energy and supress the appetitie. I have a Magic Bullet can I make the green smoothie in that or do I need a blender and can you use frozen green vegtables instead of fresh? emoticon

I actually made the green smoothie drink and it tasted pretty good. I didn't look at the color as I drunk it. I just turned the cup up and drunk. I used 2 cups of Kale, 1 medium banana, 2 cups of juiced tangerines, 1 cup of juiced carrot juice, 2 cups of pineapple juice. I will most definitely be drinking them for 14 days to see what benefits I get from this smoothie, and after the 14 days I will continue to incorporate 2 in my meal plan for breakfast and late night snack.

This is why I love Spark!! So many ideas and things to try to find who you are and what is good for you. Thanks for the idea on Green Smoothies. I've been having trouble getting in more than one serving of veggies a day. Well I did start carrot stick with Sun dried tomato basil dressing to dip them in. Delish!! Then I made this new not really a sandwich sandwich.

I take one whole wheat Wasa(brand name) bread crisp 50 cals. 10g carb 8 whole grains 2 protein Then I spread this new Mayo from Kraft I used the Chipotle bcuz I like the kick. 1 tbsp = 40 cal 2 carb and 1 tbsp can spread 2 Wasa's. Top with shredded lettuce. Then I add a slice of butter ball oven roasted turkey. I get the cajun emoticon and enjoy. Two actually fills me up and I couldn't believe it. The little kick get metabolism moving too. All at 300 cals. Great lunch! Then water and crystal light for taste if I'm in need that day. Okay ladies that's my two cents for today. Thanks for all the money I get from you guys!

I was inspired by reading all of these posts and went out to buy a new blender and ingredients for the green smoothie yesterday. To my surprise, they are pretty tasty! I'm looking forward to seeing the health benefits associated with drinking green smoothies daily.

I ran across an article about green smoothies back in December and begin making them for my husband and I. Now every morning he wants his green smoothie. I thought it would taste awful but they taste pretty good. I later found out that my skinny sister emoticon drinks them also but now she prefers the recipes I use. It is one sure way of getting some of your serving of fruits and vegetables. Which is one of the main reason I drink them faithfully.

Hello Beautiful Queens! Hope everyone is having a fantastic day! It's the weekend...a time to refresh ourselves and relax.

The topic caught my eye. I absolutely love love love smoothies. I recently purchased a Vita Mixer and have made some really yummy smoothies as well as other treats with this new blender of mine.

My favorite smoothie from the Vita Mix recipe book is the All Green Smoothie. I am drinking it right now as I type. Here is the recipe if you are interested in trying:

1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of pineapple juice
1 1/2 cup of green grapes
1/4 Bartlett pear
1/4 -1/2 avocado, peeled, pitted
1 broccoli floret
1/2 fresh spinach, washed
1 cup ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth

Per 1 cup serving: 124 Calories; 2g Protein; 3g total fat; 0g sat fat; 26g Carbs; 3g fiber; 20g Sugar; 70mg Calcium; 1 mg iron; 36 mg Sodium

Didn't know they were called green smoothies. I've been adding spinach to my smoothies because I have low iron. I was doing mixed berries, banana, spinach, plain yogurt (for thickness) and water.

I will increase this to 3xs a day. They make a great quick breakfast when you're in a hurry.

I tried this before a while back and really liked it. I used a recipe from spark. I added a little orange juice and strawberries but it looks like you can add whatever you desire. Also with the cost of fruit I think I'll try using whatever is in season.

So as this sounded like a great idea... i was very scared to try this... but i said to myself... atleast give it a try. So that i did and to my amazement; i was very surprised that this green smoothie actually didn't taste half bad lol
Here's what i used = a hand full of fresh spinach, a small banana, a some frozen raspberries and about a half cup of water. ** I also added one pack of equal for a little bit of added sweetness(sorry but i need my smoothies sweet and i tasted it without and felt as though i needed to add it)
Once i blended everything ... i just kept telling myself.. it's gonna be good ...it's gonna be good ... and it was!!!! :)

I need to pick up some flaxseeds for next time :)

ALL in ALL - it's a great smoothie!!! :)

There is actually a green smoothie challenge website. We actually missed the challenge as it ends today however the site is still very active and she offers a lot of varieties to the green smoothies. I may just give this a try.

I use fresh spinach and about 1/2-3/4 c of frozen fresh fruit (strawberries, mango, pineapple(?) and blend. It's thick and refreshing and you don't taste the "green" at all.

WCynthia, Kudos on trying it. I think once a lot of people get past the fear of having a green drink, they discover they like it.

Have any of you ever had a salad with strawberries on it? Or Mandarin Oranges? Or even some form of fruited dressing?

If you eat that, then you should be able to digest a green smoothie.

With all things though, foods and drinks are an acquired taste. I do hope some of you enjoy them.

My sister and brother-in-law drink those green smoothies, but I don't think they add any fruit to theirs. I haven't try one yet, but I might.

You can buy the regular flax seed and ground them yourself with a coffee grinder if you have one. They are cheaper than the ground flax seed.

@TeasingTan The greens are fresh (uncooked). It's healthier. Usually frozen veggies are pre-cooked.

Thanks, I've been looking for a smoothie to do with these two bags of frozen spinach I have.

Pam, I got a bag of ground flaxseed from BJs (our equivalent of Sams Club).

@TEASINGTAN If you make it right, you end up tasting fruit rather than greens. I am not into the chard that some people use. I only like the spinach. You have to figure out your preferences.

Oh & as a heads up---it might not come out green in color with certain fruits. It's called that because of the ingredients more so than the color. I have had a purple green smoothie--I just don't remember which berries were used when my boss made it.

Some Markets and Health Food Stores carry it or you can get them whole and ground them up in a coffee grinder yourself.

I think I'm going o try it, it's doesn't seem to look that good but it sound healthy and I'm all about eating healthy and clean, so I hope it taste better than it looks. I'm all about the greens anyway. So I just printed out the formula and wish me luck. emoticon

I AM COPY & PASTING A MESSAGE I SENT TO SOMEONE EARLIER BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT COULD HELP SOME OF YOU WITH YOUR NUTRITION EFFORTS:

14 days---incorporate Greeen Smoothies in your diet.

Everyone always ignores my recommendations for this but I promise you that it is a wonderful thing to do and after the 14 days, you drink them as casually as you like.

You still eat your regular meals during this. So, it is not like other detox methods. So what it requires is 4 glasses of green smoothie per day for the 14 days.

Now I personally do a simple blend---handful of spinach, 1/2 cup of water, 2 bananas, & 4 or 5 ice cubes. Blend it up and drink. It's also the least expensive.

My boys & husband like that same recipe but add a few strawberries to the mix. My boss does the following (and she is the one that started this all with the staff & students)

3 handfuls of mixed greens-kale, spinach, & collards + 1 cup of water, 3 tbs. ground flaxseed, 3 bananas, & 1 bag of frozen fruits (no syrup or sweeteners—she likes tropical blends).

When you make green smoothies using any of these increments, it does make more than 1 glass. So you can store the rest in a container.

You are not supposed to do these as meal replacements though it is harmless to do one of the glasses as your actual breakfast. But you are not supposed to skip other meals throughout the day.
