I use a 7 inch plate. I use my china setting for our everyday dishes. It may work. My husband has lost 2 inches in his waist since I switched plates in the spring and only change he made is the plates he puts his food on. So maybe something to smaller plate. I know a serving of pasta looks better on my smaller plate. It fills it up and I don't think I am being deprived. But someone on this thread commented that they measure the food on plate so size doesn't matter. I do the same. My food is weighed and measured out before I eat.

I always use a 9" plate when I eat at home. My plates are from the '70s. I measure all my foods, so for me the size of the plate doesn't make a difference. And I've always had these same plates...didn't stop me from gaining in the past.

That being said.. all of my food are pre-measured from the start so no matter the size .. it's the same foods!

I might use a 9" plate for lunch but for dinner I use a standard sized dinner plate. My personal opinion is that I will eat what I need to eat and the size of the plate doesn't make any difference to me. This is probably my least favorite of the LTGL challenges because I don't need a smaller plate to know what my portion sizes look like.

The way I set up my meals is with a 9 inch plate for lunch or supper. Breakfast is a 7 inch plate. I started doing this when I first joined Sparkpeople and was doing The Sonoma Diet, which is a Mediterranean eating plan with portions based on your plate. It has worked very well for me.

I usually eat frozen Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones. If I cook I use a 9" plate and fill it. It gives me the illusion that I have eaten a lot as my plate was full. I also did this on Thanksgiving but had seconds on dressing and carrots. For someone who was brought up to eat everything on your plate because people in America were going hungry, I finish everything on my plate and don't overeat.

What size plates do you usually use. If you used a 9" plate during this challenge how did it work for you? Did it actually change your way of eating? What are you thoughts about it?
