I'm voting for organic. My logic is this: the bacteria and molds have been around longer than humans have, and my ancestors developed an immune system to cope with them. The chemical herbicides and pesticides are only 60 or 70 years old and my body is largely defenseless against them. All of those five-member rings that kill insects are poisonous to humans too. If you have to wear a protective suit to spray it onto the fields, I don't want to put it in my mouth. There are reasons why cancer was rare 100 years ago and is the #2 cause of death in the developed world now. Part of that is that before penicillin, we died of cholera before we got old enough to get cancer, but the other big change is that we eat, drink, and breathe carcinogens every day of our lives, and most of them are fat soluble, so they build up in us as we age.

Why does it cost so much? I can control the lily leaf beetles in my front yard by sprinkling a dollar's worth of Sevin on them twice a year, or by hand picking the beetles for ten minutes a day every single day that the lilies are up. For me, handpicking is sunshine and exercise and playing in my garden, but for a commercial producer even at migrant worker wages, the Sevin is a lot cheaper.

Organic or non-Organic still recieve the same rain. Who is to say the rain is safe anymore? When one thinks of the recent world catastrophies and climate change. At one time during history of the world human waste was used as fertilizer and to this day some places in the world still do. I buy organic and non-organic depending on the quality of either or.

I honestly don't trust "organic" in the grocery store----and I prefer when in season to buy direct from the farmers at road side stands. No matter what, you need to wash it.

What can I say, I've been going around on this planet for 55 years eating what they'd classify as non organic and I'm still standing. While vegies and fruit grown in your own garden are far superior to anything you can buy, I can honestly say I can't tell much of a difference between one or the other except, perhaps, for carrots, I do think the organic ones tend to be sweeter.

Organic vs Non-organic Farming

Organic farming only uses naturally occurring chemicals or traditional remedies to control pests and diseases.

According to public perception, organic food is the healthy option. Sales of organic produce have rocketed over the past few years with the organics industry sending out messages of safer, healthier food created by farming practices which are better for the environment.

But is it really as good as we think? Critics argue that organic farming leads to the risk of contamination with potentially dangerous bacteria and mould toxins, and increased levels of 'natural pesticide' found in organic produce could even be as dangerous as synthetic chemicals.

So who do we believe? Are organic fruit and vegetables as harmless as they appear? And why do they cost so much?
