Always, if it’s a brand or product not familiar. I usually buy the same foods and brands, so no need to check the labels. Now that new labeling guidelines are going to be used, I’ll be checking them again just to be sure.

Also, I read labels to compare products. For example, if I am looking for a protein rich, non-meat food, I compare their prices per X grams of protein. It’s nice having a calculator built into my phone. I used to do the math by hand, which made my head hurt!

Only look at total carbs for my hubby as he's diabetic and he uses the carbs to figure out how much insulin he has to take.
