I feel ya - I can't see a thing when I'm swimming. Maybe do it based on feel - so a moderate pace, medium pace, and then "fast" pace? The goal is really to make sure you're increasing effort, not necessarily time.

Thanks Kourtney. I have a Garmin Swim watch that times my laps, but I don't know what those times are until I've finished my swim and save. I can either then view on my watch or upload to Garmin. Unfortunately, I wear bi-focals, so when swimming I can't read my watch too well. I'll try to watch the clock on the wall tonight also.
Thanks again

WRT descending, she means descending "splits" or time. So let's say it took you 2 minutes to do sets 1&2, maybe you could get it down to 1:50 for sets 3&4, etc.

Drives me nuts too! I hate that terminology (it's stolen from track).

In terms of gauging your pace, the only wya I've ever done it is with a clock.

Coach's workout for me tonight is:

Warm up: 100 YD Streamline Back Kick
6 rounds Alternating 50 YD Back/ 100 Back (60 rests between)
Cool Down : same as warm up

She wants me to keep round 1-2 same pace; 3-4 same pace; 5-6 same pace

Quoting her; "...trying to descend so that you get progressively faster from 1-6"

First, The only way I've been able to gauge my pace is by how many strokes it takes me from the flags to the wall. Otherwise, I don't know what she means by keeping the rounds at the same pace??

Second, How is descending going to help me get faster? I'm really dyslexic and this is not helping me understand :-)

Thanks,
rlk
