So, my MIL has had increased leg pain, GI problems, a hospital stay, and rehab admission that has turned into a nursing home residency. I have been busy, to say the least. I have been in the pool once, maybe twice, in the past 6 weeks. I think I did 1200 yds last time; not quite up to that mile yet.

Hey, I've downloaded the program - and have started with week 1. I've only swum once so far, but aiming to go once a week.

Wednesday 9/14/16 - did "week 4" first thing in the morning before taking my MIL to a medical appointment. Lifeguard was late opening up the pool, so I only had 45 minutes... but I finished the 1500 yds!! It was easier to do breathing-wise. I'm not sure if that's because I had done it Friday, and my body was less-shocked by that length of a swim, or if it was because of the cooler temps outside and the lower level of heat & humidity in the pool area. My Friday swim was around 4pm when it was 95 degrees outside. The air in the pool deck is THICK at that time of day.

Friday 9/9/16 - did "week 4" workout in just under 50 mins. The 1500 yds was a personal record for distance for me. I was breathing hard! Very muggy on deck too.

Tried "week 3" today, but I ran out of time before I could finish 1200 yds. I did make it to 1000 tho. Another swimmer at the pool gave me some tips about my form; apparently I lift my head too much when I breathe and disrupt my momentum. Next time I will try to finish all 1200 yds of the workout! emoticon

Started on Week 2 of "zero-1650" yesterday; swam the 900 yds with prescribed breaks in about 22 minutes.

emoticon

Yeah... it was day 1 even though I started on week 2. I knew I could do more than 700 yds, but I was chicken to jump straight to 1200.

This looks fun, but I will probably only be able to swim once a week... so I should be able to get up to a mile before the end of 2016.

Anyone else want to try this "swimmers mile" program too?

Callikia, et al: anyone still working through the Zero-1650? I'm on Week 2 and am loving it. I'm intermingling it with my Couch-5k/5k Your Way hybrid program, so I can really feel the difference in my ability to breathe more easily every 4 strokes.

I'm still not feeling the flip turns though; I'm determined to really get them going this weekend, even if I'm gasping for air. Anyone else feel like they throw off your rhythm when you're just starting out/just getting back in the pool?

Started this program today and so far so good. I thought I was going to need a lot of prep work to work my way up to swimming 100 yards straight, but, well, I guess I was better at swimming than I thought I was. Excited to do it again, but thinking I need to work on my form just a bit as my neck is feeling a little tweaked...think I may have tensed up a bit this morning.

Thanks for the link! Think I'll have to figure out how to squeeze this program into my routine. Going to be interesting, considering my gym has a 20 yard pool, not 25 yards...but I'll figure it out.

Just started doing this program on top of my c25k. I'll be starting my 2nd week soon. I'm a lil nervous, those 100s still kill me and by the time I get to my 3rd 100 I have to force my self not to take a breath every other stroke. It's probably cuz I'm going just a lil to fast, but honestly, I don't know how to slow down haha.

Now all i'm doing is trying to figure out how to count up to 1650. When i used to swim 500s back in the day we had teammates hold lap markers in the pool. Def would be lost without them.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed C25K a few years ago and was wondering if swimmers had a similar program I could follow.

Swimming is such a wonderful exercise, it doesn't matter how fast you are or how slow, Its still awesome for you. I use it as my cornerstone exercise to keep my muscles toned. I started back with swimming last June when I realized my upper arms were flabby - that made me realize how out of shape I was.

so I swim a mile at my pool, it's 39 laps and I go rrreeeaalllly slow (I take about 2 mins a lap) and I don't even breaststroke, it's more like a dog paddle with full arm extensions and I usually have to pause a min halfway through but I'm still proud of myself! I'm working on building myself up to a correct form and faster laps but its so awesome I've found swimming because I have plenty of muscular strength to workout hard but because of my weight I can't always do high impact without hurting myself. So, everybody does their own thing really

I'm really glad you posted this! I can already swim a 1/4 mile doing the breaststroke, but I really need to polish up my front crawl. I think this will be able to help me with that! Thanks!

I am swimming two days a week with a swim group. We do short and long intervals. Its hard to follow the program on those days.
I plan to add a third day so I will do the 0to1650 program on that day. I am hoping that the workout and drills the other 2 days will help push me thru this program.

I would like to join as well. I started with SP on 1/3/2010 and been doing swimming as my cardio. I started doing 1000 in 40 mins, now up to 1800 in 40 mins. I do breast, back and free (replacing fly for free in IMs) Hope everyone is doing well! :)

I'm new to the forum but I swim a mile about 3 times a week. When I began swimming in June, I began with breast stroke and I usually do a combination of breaststr. and crawl. Don't worry if you can't swim a mile crawl/freestyle. Just keep adding parts of your mile in crawl. I usually do a 1/4 mile in each and swap back and forth and if you do that, pretty soon you can do the whole mile of crawl.

Ganassi, I would like to join you. I started the program but had stopped when I joined my swimming class. I didn't sign up for this session and I have not been swimming on my own either. I could use a push. I can't afford to lose what little skills I have.

I am running long (8-10 miles) in the morning so I will re-start on Sunday or Monday morning.

I didn't know about this, but it is about what I did. Started out with a slow 500 yards and got up to a mile in about six weeks. I call 1800 yards a mile though, not 1650. It's been a few weeks since then, and I'm now up to 2100

It is called SWIM ZERO to ONE MILE in Six Weeks.
ruthkazez.com/ZeroTo1mile.html

The workout starts with intervals totalling 700 yards. If that is too much there is a preamble to the program called ZERO TO 700.

the program works if you follow it. Repeat weeks as necessary.

Has anyone here done the "Swimmers Mile" program? I found it on the swimming app (Swim 222), and it seems to be a swimmer's version of the Couch to 5K plan for runners. It takes 6 weeks to complete, swimming 3 days a week. The aim is that by the end of the 6 weeks you have increased your stamina so that you can swim a mile continuously.

I can swim a mile breast stroke, but my stamina when I swim freestyle is hideous! So my aim, by the end of the 6 weeks (or maybe a bit longer, depending on pool access) is for that to be significantly improved.

Anyone else interested? I'll post the details here if you are. And I would love for some company on this challenge!!!
