My results for the end of September. I missed one workout, just needed to sleep in last Thursday. I did get a walk or elliptical work out in while traveling. Food was ok until the trip to Oklahoma City. I gained 2 lbs, but they're already coming off.

Like Laurie I need to concentrate on eating the right foods next month.

Well I did good during the work week, then went hog wild over the weekend. *headdesk* So. Much. Takeout. And. Fried. Food.

It started with being mad at the scale Saturday and saying "eff it" to most things. Time to clean up this week. I also didn't do ANY cardio last week - all yoga/pilates. Gotta get back to cardio this week.

My plan is here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_pu

Laurie - *hugs* maybe you're trying to cut foods too quickly? What about focusing on just TRACKING and getting in WATER in October, then in November start focusing on reducing the # of carbs gradually? *hugs*

I'm DEFINITELY interested in keeping this up in October!

Since my last post I've managed to get in a decent amount of swimming.

I'm at 24,350 for the month, which surpasses my goal of 20,000. I hope to get in at least one more before the 30th.

My nutrition is so out of control I don't even want to talk about it. My weight is at its highest in 5 years and I'm pretty disgusted with myself. I need to force myself back on track somehow.

Do you all want to do more of the same for October?

Laurie - WTG on the nutrition goal, and you'll definitely rock your 20k swim goal. :D

Mary - good luck with all the flights and travel. Blegh.

I tapered out at the end of last week - stupid TOM cravings which I gave into. I'm back at it, though, and feeling ready(ish) to ROCK this week.

Made 30 minutes of exercise or more every day!

Still working on not eating my exercise calories. My weight is staying the same, so that is good.

This coming weekend will be interesting as far as getting in my 30 minutes. We have an 8:20 am flight to Oklahoma City from Sacramento on Friday, which means getting up at 4:30am. I have a board workshop in Oklahoma City that begins with dinner Friday evening and is all weekend. We plan for the rest of the school year and the annual national conference (Federal education programs) which is held in Washington, DC in March.

Then on Sunday we fly from Oklahoma City to Anaheim. I have a committee meeting there on Monday, for a different conference (state wide curriculum and instruction) that will be held in Anaheim in February. We're checking out the hotel and conference center, since this is the first time the conference is being held in Anaheim. We fly home on Monday evening after the committee meeting.

DH is coming along and is excited to see his good friend from the Army while we're in Oklahoma City. We only see them every other year or so, usually meeting some place we both happen to be traveling to at the same time. This time we get to see them and their new house!

Busy week! It's Wednesday already and I'm just posting last week's results.

I got in 30 minutes a day every day last week. Thursday and Friday were hard as they were 7-7 days. Thursday I did 20 minutes weights before work and a quick paced 10 minute walk at lunch (I was late to lunch appointment). Friday was yoga after a long hot drive home from Fresno.

This week, so far so good, but I think I need to add a goal. Stay within calorie range and don't eat exercise calories. My weight is bouncing up 2-3 pounds, down 2-3 pounds. Which I know is better than just up 2-3 pounds and up another 2-3 pounds. I'm so close to my goal of under 140 for this month, but am having trouble keeping within my range, for no good reason. So I thought if I posted it here it would help.

I did so-so last week

Fitness:
Swimming: 12000 yards in the pool so far, 8000 to go. Seeing as today is only the 15th, I should have no trouble making my 20000 yard goal.
Walking: Can't get my act together. I didn't walk at all last week, but I walked 4 miles yesterday. I need to plan better.

Nutrition: I didn't track at all over the weekend and my weight is way up. Too many bad carbs. In fact, since I last reported on the 9th, I only tracked 2 out of 5 days, although I did eat pretty clean on those two days. My weight was down last Friday, now it's back up again. It's a pattern I can't seem to break.

I've also been very stubborn about eating veggies. I'm not a natural veggie lover and sometimes I just get sick of them and refuse to eat them. Right now, the thought of eating another salad makes my stomach churn, I really don't know how to fix that.

I'm pretty proud with how I did last week. I even lost a couple pounds. :D There is definitely still room for improvement (more cardio, less eating dinner out, more water) but I'm still pretty proud of how I did. :D Audit here www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_pu

Agreed....

I only meant I will likely end up at the pool four days one week instead of three, because that's the way it always works out. The yardage tends to make up for itself. For nutrition, it's just back on the bandwagon without a backwards glance.

Thanks for the reminder... progress, not perfection!

Laurie - hey, when I'm stressed I do way worse than that. Try to focus on one day at a time. No catch up or "making up" for the day before - slow and steady improvements. Hugs.

We seem to be off to a pretty decent start... Kelly, glad you've joined us!

I'm reporting a little late, I intended to report every weekend. I had some family stress last weekend and I forgot. Anyway...

Fitness:
Swimming: 6500 yards so far, 13500 to go. I missed an intended swim over the weekend, but I'm still only 1500 yards behind schedule. I will catch up.
Walking: I walked twice, only a mile each time. My enthusiasm for walking is lukewarm.

Nutrition:
Needs lots of improvement. And my weight shows it by being way up.
Out of the last eight days, I only tracked five, and managed only three of them clean. There were three days I didn't track at all, and those days were complete write-offs. I'll blame it on the stress above, but I need to stop using that as an excuse. There will be much more of that to come and if I don't get a handle on it now, I'll blow up to 200 lbs before I know it.

New week... new start...
Back to the pool today, and back to tracking, starting now.

Kelly-Good to see you join the challenge!

This weeks results:

Fitness - 30 minutes a day everyday and DH has joined the 30 minutes a day challenge!

Nutrition - I've entered something in MyFitnessPal everyday, but this weekend was a not such a good eating weekend, well, it was great food and fun, but more than normal. CAL football game on Saturday which included meeting DS and DIL at the pub before the game, hot dogs at the game, then off to watch the end of the Oregon/Michigan St game (more eating and drinking) dinner out (Trader Vic's in Emeryville) and then on Sunday we did the SF Giants 5K with lunch at The Public House (beer, fish and chips). Oh well, it was a really fun weekend.

I'm a few days late, but I know you all will let it slide. :)

I'm still nursing my bum shoulder, so my main goal is to try to get better!

But my real goals are to eat Paleo/low-carb 5 of the 7 days in a week, and to exercise as much as I can without aggravating my shoulder. Right now I think what that means is do PiYo 2-3 times per week and on the days I don't do PiYo, walk 10,000 steps. Except for Sunday. It's always hard for me to exercise on Sundays so if I do it, great, if not, no stress.

Nutrition - Keep the streak going with MyFitnessPal to make the goal of 140 or less (only 4 lbs).

This is sort of a resurrection/edit of last year's KISS challenge.

I had an awful August and ended up gaining a bunch of weight. I feel like a slug. So per usual, I am finding the need to pare back to bare bones and simplify.

Here's how it works:

First, what does "simple" mean to you? To me "simple" does not necessarily mean "easy." It means you "set it and forget it." It doesn't require a lot of thought to remember or to reach. It's easy to recall to mind and the steps to reach it require more physical effort than mental.

With that in mind, pick two simple goals, one for fitness and one for nutrition. The fitness goal can be distance or time and can be any physical activity, swimming, walking, biking, yoga, strength training, whatever. Nutrition can be a calorie goal, food plan goal, or whatever. Remember, if your goal is too hard to reach, then it is no longer simple. But don't make it too easy either, or you'll lose interest. Make the steps to reach it easy to remember and easy to follow.

Post your two goals here by September 1. Then post here weekly, or as often as you need to, to report on your progress. The challenge will run from September 1 through September 30.

Good luck!
