I would like to add my distances to whatever challenge is decided on. I always swim a minimum of 2000 meters - what I'm working on is technique, & to a lesser degree, speed/time.

Right... people did keep track of their own points and post them in a thread. It was still a lot of work for the individual. I'm saying we'll have a tracking thread where people will say what they want to track, and then report back every so often to say how they're doing. No points involved. Just plain accountability: I did it and I'm cheering for myself, or I didn't do it and here's what I need to improve.

That's what I was thinking, Gor. There were so many items in different categories there was always something to work on. Pick and choose, and a simple Y/N tracking weekly? Comments would be additional.

Maybe participants can track their own points on a thread for the challenge. Would that make it less work?

I think i will track pool visits, because counting mileage requires a bit of focus. I like to let my mind wander when I am swimming....but I do need a push to get to the pool.

I was thinking about that Jon.

For you folks who are asking "what spreadsheet?" Jon is referring to a spreadsheet we developed last year to keep track of things like nutrition, fitness, social time, personal habits, wellness, etc. You earned points for your activities, and it was a little competitive thing we did to see who could earn the most points in a week. It was a lot of work, but it did help people stay on track.

Honestly, I'm not real inclined, at least not now. Like I said, it's a lot of work, and for me things tend to work better when I keep them simple. Plus, points aren't really a motivator for me.

But I'll go with the masses here.... what do you guys think? Do you want it?

I guess it's safe to tally up my 2014 miles as I haven't been in the water since the end of Sept and with water temps in the low 40s I doubt I'll be back in before New Years. (sigh) I'm on the beach until March or so but I'm up for a 2015. If you take Kourtneys' suggestion of habits, will we resurrect the spreadsheet? That was pretty extensive but we could pick a few of what we want to work on.

Ok, well this sucks. I haven't been getting emails notices about people posting on this thread! So all these days, I'm wondering why there's no interest, then I stop by here and find all these posts! YAY!!! Stupid emails notifications :-(

Anyway...... raChelle, we try to make these challenges broad enough to cover whatever anyone wants to do, because we recognize that not everyone swims at the same level or intensity. Plus it allows for other forns of workout, which makes it easier for people to participate even if they are unable to swim for some reason. (We seem to have an unfair disadvantage with injuries here on this team) The challenges are more about accountability than they are about making a certain workout fit into your plan.

SOOOOO, that said....

I like Kourtney's habits challenge idea! My habits have certainly gone to h3ll in the last few months, so I really need to regroup.

If everybody's up for that, I'll post an "official January challenge" before New Years. AND, Kourtney, how about if you start the new 2015 100 mile challenge. Or make it whatever number of miles you choose?

raChelle, your regular workouts can be your "habits" and you can add others if you want to.

Hi everyone. I don't know if you all caught my blog a couple of days ago, but I posted my workout. In any case, here it is again (for you GORIANA - and good luck with the Masters Class if you do it). Coach had me doing the following ladder on Sunday:

25 free; rest 90 secs
25 back; rest 90 secs
50 free; rest 90 secs
50 back; rest 90 secs
75 free; rest 2 minutes
75 back; rest 2 minutes
100 back; rest 2 min
75 back; rest 2 min
75 free; rest 2 min
50 back; rest 90 secs
50 free; rest 90 secs
25 back; rest 90 secs
25 free; rest forever :-)

Tonight I'll be working on speed. Will keep you posted

I was just about to suggest 100 mile 2015 goal! I just looked at my last few years and I did ok 2012, rocked 2013, and then did ok 2014. And so did my weight... 100 miles for the win!

What about a "habits" challenge for January. pick 3 habits you're working on and record progress, maybe with points? For me it's cardio, eating in range, and water. Thoughts?

100 mile swim challenge sounds good. I'm in a better position to actually make some progress now.

Hi Laurie.

I don't know that I'm up for challenges unless they fall inline with what I'm already doing since I'm training for the Senior Olympics. I can share what I'm working on with my coach - maybe the drills I'm going through would be challenge enough for participants??? For instance, today I swam ladders. Tuesdays I train for speed; Thursdays are usually endurance.
