So long since I've checked in!
I tried to take New Year's week off from screen time. I had a relaxing week "off" (not from work, but from classes anyway), and now I'm back in the swing of all the things!

I did manage to keep my 30-minutes-a-day exercise plan on track, and I've decided to do the Cook 90 Challenge (basically one month of cooking three meals a day). So far, so good. How are things with you? I think you might be on to something with the 3-month cycle. That week of relaxation might also be a good time to look back and assess what was working and what can be tweaked to work better.

Happy New Year!

I've been busy driving all over the place lately, probably 500 miles in the last few days. I did a lot of walking but it wasn't the type I normally do. It was more leisurely. Last night I went to bed with a sore throat but woke up fine, so I guess I just needed the rest.

I like the idea of a 100-day challenge. I might do a 30-day challenge Jan 1st walking 60 minutes a day. I walk on a trail so it's very focused energy and I walk faster than I normally would. I really notice the difference on the scale when I walk a lot. I wish it wasn't so cold at night. I really enjoyed walking after dinner but it's harder now since I usually freeze.

I was hoping to enter the New Year in the 70's but that's not happening. It's okay though, I will get there in January. So maybe I'll do a "100-Day Walking to the 70's" challenge.

I also need to go rogue (is that a term? Lol) on my food. I need to jump-start things again and get back to being more hardcore about it all. Maybe doing 3-month cycles is a good way for me to look at it....where I'm very strict for 3 months and then give myself a week to relax, then back to being hardcore again. I started Sept 1 and did really well the first 3 months but December derailed me a bit. If I look at it in 3 months cycles, it seems less stressful in my head. I guess we all need to come up with ways of looking at things that makes it seem more doable.

Good luck to us. :)

My exercise plans for the weekend (four days, with the holiday! Yay!) are to get in at least 30 minutes all four days. I tend to like taking New Year's day kind of easy--journaling plans for the year, catching up on knitting projects that I neglected while I was making Christmas presents for other people, that sort of thing. So I'm committing to taking care of myself this New Year's, and that means getting exercise. Simple as that.

I've actually started a 100-day effort: 100 days of at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, and by that I mean *actual* exercise, not just walking to the office from the parking ramp. :) For the most part, I do more than that, but 30 minutes somehow seems more attainable on those days when I'm swamped at work or when I just can't seem to find my mojo. That helps me to be consistent, and besides, once I'm on my bike or out walking, an extra 15 minutes isn't THAT hard to tack on... :) So today is Day 3.

How are things with you?

Glad you enjoyed the holiday with your girls. I still feel a little out of whack from my Christmas Eve misadventures with sweets. I haven't had anything like that in a long time so it threw my body out of whack. I have been walking though so that helps. Today I spent the day the beach (even though it was cold) so that was really nice. It gave me a chance to clear my head.

Your exercise routine sounds really great. I need to step up my game on that. I need to get some strength training in for 2019. I have some free weights that I need to start using. All I do is walk, which is great but I don't see it changing my body that much. It's more for the mental benefits. So I want to work on defining my muscles and all that.

Tomorrow I'm driving to Los Angeles so will be busy all day. But Saturday and Sunday, I will do 60 minutes of walking.

What are your exercise plans for the weekend?

Well Christmas and the day after were pretty predictable, food-wise, but I at least got some stationary biking in before the festivities swung into high gear. We had both our girls home from school for a couple of days, so I made a choice to maximize my time with them, chill out, and enjoy the holiday.

Now that they're gone, tho... :D
I am starting back to my routine: 30-45 minutes of biking in the mornings, and a half-hour brisk walk at lunch. (And bringing all of the leftover treats to the office!) So far, so good, We've been lucky that the weather here (SE Wisconsin) has been unseasonably warm, so it's not too much of a hardship to get outside. That's always been the key for me: If I can get outside, even in the winter, it seems to keep my energy up and the S.A.D. at bay.

Here's to having summer (and swimming!) to look forward to!

Merry Christmas to you too. Hope you have a nice day.

I will be so SO HAPPY get back to my regular routine. I found that I do better when I'm in my little zone with a food routine. I've done mostly great since Sept 1st, but the holidays threw me off. (Which reminds me of a funny meme I saw....."Don't blame the holidays for overeating, you were fat in August too." Lol)

I just seem to do better when I'm in a regular daily routine and don't have to worry about baking or celebrating anything. So I'm hoping I will find a groove again for the next few months.

That sucks about your freezer but hopefully it will help your meal prep having everything cooked. This year I received more food gifts that I ever have before. I couldn't bring it all to work since the office is closed this week. So I've re-packed and froze all of it. I have enough sweets to last the full year in my freezer. I'll probably end up throwing most of it away.

I'll be glad to switch gears and not have to think about the holidays. Now I can start to think about Spring and Summer and how I might actually be in shape by Summer. 6 more months so it's doable. Maybe I could even go swimming for a change this summer. I used to LOVE to swim when I was a kid but haven't done it in YEARS.

Anyway, have an amazing day. Enjoy it!! It's raining here in California.

Hi!
Well, Walking Wednesday went pretty well--about 8,000 steps. But the rest of the week... emoticon
This month has been disappointing. I had crazy work deadlines, plus I'm taking classes online, so I spend a LOT of time at my computer. But, I also realize that those are just excuses. The fact is, I haven't been taking care of myself for the last couple of months, and I can tell by the way that I feel that it's starting to catch up to me.

Predictably, my food isn't going great, either. Man, this is a hard time of year! emoticon emoticon Speaking of food, we went out of town for a couple of days, and got home last night to find our freezer had died. The good news is that only a few things had thawed completely, so anything that was still a little frozen, we are cooking (and then probably re-freezing!) so I'll have lots of pre-cooked chicken, beef, etc. That should help with meal prep for a while!

I'm a little jealous that you have time off--I have today and tomorrow, and then I'm back to work on Wednesday, but that might actually help me get back on some sort of track. I'm also going to work harder at checking in here more regularly. I know on the days that I don't do well, I'm less inclined to talk about it, but that's pretty much the definition of accountability, right?

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
Anne

P.S. I use a Fitbit (I think it's the Zip? It's the one that clips on--I don't like the wristwatch-style ones). I have used one for several years; I find them very helpful for knowing how much activity I get (or not!) in a day, so that I can plan better.

I thought I posted after Wednesday but I guess I didn't. How did Walking Wednesday go for you?

I'm on a 5-day walking streak right now that started Wed. I'm off from work until Jan 2nd, so I'm hoping to do at least 60 minutes each day. I know I won't do it on Christmas Day but hopefully all other days.

Too bad I'm not doing as well on my food. Nothing too crazy but not doing as well as I planned. Hoping to make it through the next few days okay. How is your food going?

I'm doing all my baking today. I am running behind this year.

P.S. Where did you get your step counter? I really should get one of those.

Heh... I wouldn't want to put sneakers over a fresh pedicure, either!
Saturday and Sunday were more like 30 minutes each day, but I was literally on my feet all day Saturday cooking and baking ahead of a Christmas party, so maybe that counts for something? emoticon
Monday and today were both 45-minute days, so not quite where I want to be, but heading in the right direction. A friend gave me some good advice: whenever I think of it, check my step counter, and then get up and walk to the next even thousand of steps. It usually only requires a few minutes of walking each time, and on days when I remember to do it, it makes getting to 10,000 feel pretty effortless!
Good work--let's both hit it tomorrow... Walking Wednesday!

I walked 60 minutes on both Saturday and Sunday.

Then Monday got a pedicure so didn't want to wear sneakers. Ha!

And today, I'm exhausted and just feel like staying home.

So Wednesday I will be out there walking again.

How about you?

That's great!! Sounds so nice.

I walked last night after work. It was a bit cold but today the sun is out so I'm walking earlier in the day.

I also added a small (and I mean REALLY small) strength training thing to my walks when I get home. I have one of those old school steppers that was just taking up space in the garage forever. So I cleaned it up and moved it into the den. I do 100 steps on that when I get home from my walk. It's literally just a very quick time on it but I'm actually feeling good about it. I have to build some muscle in my butt and legs. I will work my way up to 15 minutes at some point, but for now I feel good doing even the small amount. I keep telling myself that small steps turn into big leaps. :)

Keep going! Let's see how we both do this weekend.

Whoop whoop! After a pretty awful week at work (10 and 11 hour days at my desk) I finally turned my project in! I celebrated by going for a bright sunny walk at lunchtime. I managed to hit my 10k step goal, too! How’d you do?

Cool, that sounds great. :)

I walk pretty slow so it's not power walking or anything but it really does help. I'm starting to look at it as my therapy session for the day. It's like the one time I can clear my mind of all the things running through my head with work and so on.

Good luck tomorrow.

I would love that!
I love having some accountability, and I'm in the same boat as you MAIRENOW. When I make a point of getting out and walking, I really notice a difference in the way I feel. But when I don't get that movement in... I don't feel great, and then I'm even less inclined to move. Such a vicious cycle!
Good for you for getting in an hour a day! I got nothing on that, but let's check back in tomorrow.

I didn't walk for about a week (if was freezing here) but started back yesterday. I really notice a difference in my weight and outlook when I walk. My attitude becomes 100 times better.

If anyone wants to do an exercise challenge, we could post our minutes in here.

Dec 12: 60 minutes (walking)

Yeah, it's very concerning. I wonder if anyone has reached out to her. Hopefully it's nothing bad.

I joined BLC and Done at the same time, so I was planning on doing both challenges. I think the BLC challenge starts next week. I'm still hoping we can finish this challenge too.

I tried to send you all the link but I don't think it worked.

Wow! We did great! GO TEAM GREEN!!

Special congrats to COUNTRYGAL1975 for losing the most % of weight.

Let's keep this momentum going. I was hoping the challenge this week would be water because I'm HORRIBLE at drinking water. So I really could use the motivation.

Good luck everyone!!!

This week your challenge is water intake! Water is super important to overall health and to assist with weight loss. I know I'm guilty of not getting in enough!

Please use the tracker below to track your daily water intake (in 8 oz glasses)

The team that drinks the most water by the end of week 2 will gain immunity from eliminations on weigh in day. Don't forget to weigh in on Sunday, November 25 by the afternoon emoticon

WOO! We're doing great! We have an awesome team.

Today is the final day so I will get out there and walk again, (I'm currently still in bed not wanting to even move, Lol) I might try to do the stepper too but that thing is hard! I don't know how people stay on those for 30+ minutes. I can barely do 5 minutes. Maybe I have the settings too high or something.

I saw this saying below on the community feed and loved it. It's SOOO true. It's something we should all remember.

Good luck to everyone today!

Hi Team! We're halfway done with this week. Let's try to log in as many activity minutes as we can. Remember, things like cleaning and walking are listed on the Spark activity tracker, so it all counts.

I wasn't feeling well today so didn't do a lot, but every minute counts! I'll try to do more Thurs-Sat. Then Sunday we rest.

GO GREEN!!!!!

emoticon GREEN TEAM to WEEK 1 of the BIGGEST LOSER CHALLENGE!

Your challenge this week is to get the most activity minutes in as you can! Whether it's cardio, strength training, yoga, it doesn't matter! Let's get moving!! emoticon emoticon

The team that completes the most minutes of activity will gain immunity from eliminations at the end of Week 1!! emoticon

Please use a tracker to add up your daily activity minutes so that I can easily see tally it all up at the end of the week. PLEASE only use one post for your tracker and edit one tracker for the week so it is easy for me to see the information in one post. Please make sure to weigh in no later than Sunday at noon eastern time on November 18.

Your tracker should look like this and be kept in one post for easy calculating
