For my week to week, I think I did it. I stuck to the South Beach diet Phase I and only did my strength twice. I do prefer doing cardio so it's not so hard for me to skip strength training. For the next week, I'm going to come off the South Beach and try to stick to eating healthy and stick in my calories. I can't tell you how much I want a burrito and margaritas. MMmmmm. The book says on South Beach, you lose your cravings for these things. Nah. That's a bunch of hooey.

Way to go MISSMAE on putting down those reeses. It's so easy to just eat the entire bag. Easy.

Nix - I like the fruit routine. If I don't wash my fruit right away, I just won't eat it. That's lazy. I need the quick and easy.

challenge for thursday: my goal was to stay under 1700 calories. all but one day this week i achieved it. Some days it's been easy and other days still rough. I did have one serving of reeses pieces yesterday and left the bag alone. I started thinking how i used to eat the whole bag as a snack all the time at my friend's house. I calculated and it's over 1300 cal and 63 gms of fat. No wonder I'm obese.
My goal for this week is to continue walking everyday with my friends and I joined another challenge group to do 100 push ups a day. I've already done it the past 4 days so I want to keep on going.

I didn't answer my own challenge question emoticon ... oops :)The one thing I cannot live without in my routine: My weekend fruit and veggie planning fiesta! On the weekend, my hubby is off work and we go a few stores and buy the best fruits and veggies we can find. Then we come home and I wash, rinse, cut up, etc ALL of the fruits and veggies and put them in containers in the fridge so that I can grab and go quickly!! Without this habit/routine... I would have more excuses to not eat so healthy... and I dont need any more excuses!!

Summer ~ I am with you, honey! After exercise, I feel amazing and when I DO exercise, it keeps me on track for everything else... it is an amazing feeling. Now, just to get my lazy toosh off the couch... :)

Amandah ~ No worries, sweetie... here for you, as you know! My goals were good this week... since I am having a "no sweets" challenge... it's simpler to stay in cals and make better choices! :) Next week will be... I haven't decided yet! I think I am going to shoot for an extra day of cardio. I feel like I'm slacking a bit. That just wont work for me :)

Laurie ~ I still haven't tried Turbo Jam... hmmm I need to see if my library has that so I can try it for free first... hehe

I hope you guys are having a great day!! Few more days until Halloween... any plans? :)

Daily Challenge for Wednesday: What is one thing that you simply CANNOT live without in your health/fitness routine?

I think I really cannot live without my Turbo Jam videos. No matter how much I try to do something else, I always go back to them. I may not do them everyday (or hey, even at any time during a given week) but they are my staple workout. Also I really always need to have a nalgene bottle or aluminum bottle full of water with me. If it's there, I drink it. And I usually have those crystal light packets with me but I still end up drinking just plain water. It's the best way for me to get my 8 glasses and keep track. The big 32oz Nalgene are perfect for knowing how much I've drank.

I can't live without my gym membership - seriously, the days I make it to the gym I stay in my calorie range more consistantly and drink more water. I eat healthier before I go so that I feel strong and energized while I am there, and I eat better afterword because I feel so strong and I want to make healthy choices.

Like I said a few days ago, it's midterms for me, and today will be the first time I have been able to make it to the gym in four days. I'm excited!

Laurie ~ I could live off of fruits and veggies alone... really. Some days I dont want meat at all, the other days I am like "gimme some chicken!" hehe. Keep it in mind for next time :)

Melissa ~ I love pasta, but don't have it much. When I am sick, I like warm things, too... but usually soups and tea and such. I never even thought to have pasta or rice! hehe

Dont be discouraged... they aren't "bad" totally. If you aren't eating like that every day, then you are learning... that is life... learning and growing from it. You are on the right track, that's all that matters! I actually just wrote a blog entry about growth today... so strange! :)

I hope everyone is well. I seem to have a chest cold... ew! Stupid yo yo weather is KILLING ME!

I've never been a big fan of chicken noodle soup. I make sure that I do eat it when I'm sick, but it's not my favorite. I do enjoy soups and bread. The bread is probably not so great but it just seems right.
Nix- the fruit is a very good idea. Wish I had heard that sooner.

Being sick is really tough for me because all I want is comfort food - rice, pasta, etc - stuff that's warm and will put me right to sleep.

It's horrible, and I'm slowly learning to control it, but last week I realized that all those horrible habits are still there.

Oh yeah - I like chicken soup too.

Chicken Noodle Soup is a family fave, but when I am sick, I make my homemade chicken veggie soup! Tons of veggies, fresh chicken, and totally yummy! :)

I also really like to eat fruit when I'm sick... need the extra vitamins and it's a good excuse to get more servings... hehe

Along with staying in calories range (which is still sooo hard!), I have a hard time getting enough protein.

This week is going to be especially challenging because I am so busy! I just need to get through this midterms season with my health and my sanity :)

I'm still on the South Beach this week so I'm pretty much sticking in the ranges that I'm provided. I'm going to need to work getting in fiber soon though. I tracked my food today and only got 1gram. Guess that's not on South Beach. Next week I'll start adding some better-for-me foods. I am liking more vegetables though. I find new ways to cook them. Have a great day!

For my weekend challenge I am unpacking the last box in the corner of my room. I moved in almost two months ago (!) but that still hasn't been done. There are so many things that need to be done around here that I can't do - I haven't figured out how to hang the mirror, or how to get a couch (and get it up the stairwell) but for this weekend the box will have to do.

i love love love LOVE breakfast. i think it is my favorite meal. i tend to eat a variety of things. more quick and easy on weekdays though. half a bagel and some yogurt. bowl of cereal and a piece of fruit. on weekends i love making omlettes. i'm an on and off again coffee drinker. a lot of it depends on if i wake up early enough to make a pot. it is not something i need as a part of my morning but i do find it a way to charge up my batteries with breakfast. i take it black w/ splenda. i just got a pumpkin pie spice creamer that i am excited to use very SPARINGLY. emoticon

for my weekend challenge i just need to tidy up the tornado i created trying to pack for my vacation (that starts on tuesday!).

Hi!

For breakfast, I was eating a piece of fruit and always had my coffee. Since doing the SouthBeach for awhile, I am actually making myself some sort of egg for breakfast like an omelete or scrambled egg and I am off caffeine. I've been drinking some flavored caffeine-free tea. I miss the coffee though so I just bought some instant decaf. I'll tell you, when these detoxing 2 weeks is up, I'm going back to the real coffee. I don't drink much, but I do drink it. Of course problem is that my breakfast doesn't come until 9:30am-ish when I get up at 5:30am. Just the way it works.

As for this weekends cleaning task, I would love to get to cleaning my craft corner. It's just a mess and I actually need to go through it to make a decision on what I'll need to buy for holiday and birthday presents. I don't think I'll have much time, but I'll be trying.

I used to hate eating breakfast, but now it is one of my favorite meals - I usually eat a whole wheat english muffin, sometimes with laughing cow spreadable cheese on it, sometimes with egg whites. For a treat I got toaster waffles (whole grain) so I have been eating those then I want a change or a pick me up.

The biggest change has been substituting black coffee for sweeter coffee drinks, but I always have coffee.

I've gotta have my coffee! Especially at work...for some reason the weekends I don't necessarily need the coffe. I try to eat some kind of fruit and have some yogurt. On the weekends I make a "real" breakfast...sometimes.

I usually have some cottage cheese or yogurt & a piece of fruit & a bottle of water with a crystal light packet in it. I'm not really into eating in the morning, so this is a big adjustment for me. That's why I stick to something really simple.

I was going to do strength training only 2 days this week and cardio the rest, but somehow I think I may have done 3. Not entirely sure. My neck (I think its the trapezius muscles) is not nearly as sore as last week, so I guess i have been overdoing the back/shoulder exercises. I was just really hoping to get rid of that bra overhang. Also, I have started the South Beach diet. I hate all the cooking it entails, but seems to be sort of cleansing. I am feeling better about myself and I think it's just because I have completed day 3 and still feel determined.

Next week, stick to the south beach diet for another week (and a half) and keep up with the exercise. 2 or maybe 3 days of strength and 6 days of cardio.

I did not do enough weight training as I planned. I think I did weight training twice and my goal was four. I'm still working out, I walked today and yesterday for an hour. My goal for next week is to have my calorie range below 1700. I'm a little irritated today because I gained .5lb. I know it's not much but I'm still irritated!

I did not meet my weekly goal at all! My goal is staying the same - stay within my calorie range everyday!

I know this is a problem for me, so I am also going to read things on sparkpeople and try to develop some sort of strategies. I like that the week starts Wed, so there is time to readjust and make some much needed changes!

Honesty is the best policy and I have been dragging/slacking for days! Today is the day to fix all of that!! :) Work up with my workout clothes ON...and feeling good so far. Once my son gets on the bus, this day is all about ME! Woo hoooo!!

Next week, I want to complete this "to do" list I just created... it's going to be a killer, but... great for my cardio!! hehe

Since I just started a few days ago I really don't have a full week of goals to evaluate yet. However, for the goals I have set for this week .. I have met them (so far). My goals next week will be 1.) Up my water intake by at least 2 glasses, 2.) Add an extra 10 minutes to my daily exercise routine, & 3.) When it's raining, I wake up, put my workout clothes on and start my day like any other day. If I sit around sipping something hot to drink and doing that, I will be lazy all day. I at least like to start my day off right. I make a small healthy breakfast, respond to emails, then do my workout. I try to also do strength on these days if it is time because I feel more powerful after I do it! :) it's so helpful, really.

THEN, I put music on and try to do something active in my house. If I am moving around (with the blinds closed so I cant see the ickiness outside), the day is good.

I, however, live in the North and I am starting to get nervous about the winter. I am not a typical outside workout type of person, but I LIKE to go out on occasion and I fear this will put me in a slump. I think that i am tougher that that though... lets see!! :) pray

Tuesday:
Honestly, I have a hard time with rainy weather laziness.
I may plan to do a video but generally I just make sure to use my resistance bands and exercise ball or jog in place during commercials while I catch up on my favorite shows. I save my dvr stuff for rainy days or sick days!

Hey Everyone! Geesh I feel like i've been gone forever. I have just been re-evaluating/re-committing to myself. I spent Sunday in the grocery store buying stuff for the South Beach diet. Not a whole lot of food, but it was a whole lot of money. I hate that. I ate South Beach Monday (killing me - no caffeine, no sugar, no carbs all cold turkey) and I was still in my calorie range.

On a rainy day, I do have to talk myself into moving. Good thing is that I have a dog who requires me to take her out and I feel bad keeping her cooped up in a small apartment without taking her for walks. That being said, when it's ridiculously rainly, she won't go out except to do her business. Then she runs back to the door. I then just do my usual DVD workouts but try to add a little extra something to them. Maybe an added 10 minute video or something. Just a little something.

Sounds like everyone here is really moving forward with their goals. I'm so excited!

Mondays challenge .. I had already walked earlier in the day; but when I saw the challenge I decided to go again & fully intended to do only 10-15 mins (the extra) well .. instead I did 30! YAY me!

Tuesdays challenge .. the weather here where I am in Louisiana has been great (knock on wood-lol).. but when the weather is bad, I either get on the treadmill or walk with a Leslie Sansone DVD. Sometimes I just do some lifting with free weights too.

I cure myself of weather induced laziness by goin' to the fridge & lookin' at the pics posted of me at my heaviest, grab a piece of fruit, turn on some music & do some type of exercise (whether I want to or not). Lookin' at pics always seems to re-motivate me with a vengence!

Today I lifted hand weights while watching the end of private practice. Great challenge!

I must refocus though - It seems I just can't have certain things in the house or I will eat them! What do you girls do to curb the sugar cravings? I used to drink soda and sugery coffees, and since I don't I crave candy in a way I never did before. It is so strange.

YAY Amandah!!! :)

My "extra" minutes were today! I decided that I would give my fish tank a little clean... I ended up taking more than 20 gallons of water out, replacing it, scrubbing the sides, changing the filters, etc. That water was WICKED heavy, but great! I worked up a great little sweat to add to my already great day.

Tomorrow I am going to break out my bike while my son is at school! :) Can't wait!! YAY!

Hey everyone! I haven't been on all weekend. I had a fun weekend but bad diet wise. Family reunion and hayrack rides. Sunday I worked since 9am and got off at 7am so no chance to workout this weekened. I did 30 minutes of walking and saw monday's challenge and did 25 more minutes of walking with leslie sansone dvd. after work I'll try to do my biggest loser on my wii.

Oh my gosh this weekend was a crazy weekend for me! Salem around Halloween - and I had to have that candy apple! I went to the grocery and got all kinds of good things for the week though - so I will be back on track!

And I did make it to pilates class. I'm about a month in, and I change my mind about if I like it or not every week - this week was a not. Sometimes I feel it afterword, and sometimes I don't. But its after midnight on the East Coast so it is officially Monday! Have a great week everyone!

I'm excited to say today I finally lost 5lbs since starting SP a little over a month ago. YAY! Also, yesterday I did 25 minutes of my biggest loser and 40 minutes of walking since I did make my goal for this week to work out at least 4 times this week. Thanks guys for pushing me!

Laurie ~ You were in a slump or something, but you are waking back up! No worries!! Your week wasn't a failure... want to know why? You KNOW what you were doing and you want to fix it. You see where you went wrong... that's the most HUGE awesome sign EVER. Now, the next step is to fix whatever is stressing you (work in this instance) OR do what you can and then remember that your health (your life, in fact) are more important than any other outside sources. You can do this!!

We are here for you whenever you need us... ME especially!! :) I hope you get sparked again (pun 100% intended). hehe XOXO

Amandah ~ You are so cute, honey. You apologize for being human. Awww :) We are not freaking out about no challenge, babe. Promise. Relax and do what you need to do... we are still here regardless, ok? :) I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that, also. At least... I hope so. If someone is upset because you are human... then I need them to teach me how to be WAY more awesome :)

My week was good, I am doing almost everything I should... and then my hubby gave me a super awesome surprise yesterday. See my blog for details! He rocks... officially. :)

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone! Love and kisses, Nix :)

emoticon Weekend Mini Challenge: Each day this weekend, choose something to focus on. It can be health related or not. All three days can be the same, or each can be different. It's a very open challenge, so do what you can!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You guys seem like you are doing awesome! Keep up the good work!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am once again sorry about the lack of a challenge for Thursday. I feel like I have been the worst leader this month and I truly am sorry. Life is so extremely crazy right now! I honestly haven't even been good with eating and working out at all so I'm not logging in as much to track things. I feel like I barely get time at my computer. Like right now it's 7pm, and I literally just got home from work. I was there for over 11 hours!!!
I am planning on hitting it hard again on Monday at the very latest with diet and exercise. I need it for health and sanity sake! I have plans to work out in my classroom right after work. So HOPEFULLY I will be on more and posting challenges. However, I was wondering if someone would like to assist me for awhile? All that it would entail would be to post challenges if I don't get to it. So for example if you were to log in one morning and there was no challenge, this person would post one. It's just a back up so if I can't get to my computer the rest of the team isn;t left hanging.
I feel rotten asking, but I don't want my failing to post challenges to ruin people's BSS experience since I love the BSS! If anyone volunteers, it would have to be someone who logs in regularly. If no one volunteers, that's okay too! :) Just know that I will do my very best to get on every day, but occasionally, I may screw up!
If more than one person volunteers, I will choose the first person who responded. Just spark mail me privately if you are interested. Again, it would only be to post challenges if I don't get to it one day.
Thanks! You guys all rock!

Awesome work everyone! Looks like you all did so well on your weekly goals. And SUMMER - way to go! Great acheievement. I too did the happy dance when I bought (about a month ago) my 1st pair of size 12 jeans since freshman year of hs. Feels awesome.

As far as my week to week, probably an utter fail. I didn't even track this week. I have been feeling so down about my job that I was turning to food and going to eat healthy "tomorrow". I was going to try to keep my sodium down and I don't think that I ever ate sandwich meat, but that's about as far as I went on that. I'm not really starting my new week to week until, I want to say Sunday, but it depends on my groceries, so Sunday or Monday. I'm going to head over to the South Beach diet plan for at least 2 weeks. I need something to kick start the metabolism and upping the exercise has not helped. I have been eating all the perishable food that is not South Beach worthy this week which is another reason why I'm eating pretty poorly. I don't think this is something I want to stick with but I'm going to see what happens. This will be a very strict 2 weeks and alcohol free. That's probably a good thing. So my new week to week is to stick to the South Beach diet plan. As far as from today until Wednesday, I'm going to do mostly cardio and cut back on the ST down to 2 days. That should help me out.

Again - way to go everyone! I'm so proud of all of us (ok, me not so much but with your support, I'm going to get back on track)!

Hello my lovelies. . .
I'm Melissa, I live in NJ, I'm going to be 28 at the end of November. By that time I would love to be out of my size 20s.

Ideally I would like to be in size 16s, but I would feel accomplished with a comfortable fitting size 18.

I want to push myself.
I want to be able to run a mile (currently doing the c25K).

And I want to smile from the inside.

Hey done girls! I am so excited and wanted to share- one of my goals was to fit into size 12 jeans before my birthday, and then I could buy them for a celebration - and today I went to see how much farther I had to go. They fit! I do not remember the last time I was a size 12, maybe freshmen year. Of hs. Never in my adult life! And almost three weeks before my birthday!

Great job everyone! My goal last week was to eat at least 4 fruits/veggie servings a day. With the exception of sat (i was hiking all day) I ate 4-8 servings. I'm weighing in on friday so I am wondering if that helped make a change scale wise.
My goal for this week is to continue with that but have some kind of excersize daily and to do my biggest loser workout at least 4 times until next wed.

p.s. A little achievement for myself was yesterday I reached in to the cookie jar (which for a long time I did daily), stopped to think about it before I took a bite, and put the cookie down and had celery and dip as a snack insted. I know, I'm shocked myself.

My goal is going to be to stay in my calorie range and track everyday! I am good about going to the gym, but not always good about tracking.

I am also going to aim to make more time in my day to be on sparkpeople, asking questions, reading things and making buddies - that is something I really need to keep on track because I had one 'real world' friend who was working out with me and she is not interested anymore. Any and all support is so appreciated, and I am going to aim to be a better friend and support system to people on this board too!

I had to go back and look. My goal was to stay in the 1400cal range per my doc:
2 days I was in 1400
2 days in 1300
1 day in 1200's
1 day I was over (but still in my range)
one day unaccounted for.

Not too great. Will try better this week.

I have 2 quotes I re-visit often. My favorite is my sig line... the second is:

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do."
~~Eleanor Roosevelt

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow."

Does teaching my 5yo to ride the bike she got for her birthday last month without training wheels count? LoL She took right off (I knew she could do it) but still has some trouble when she turns. She turns sharply, panics and stops. Lots of positive reinforcement as she usually is a doubter.
Happy Tuesday!

Hey Ladies!

I spent the day with my parents. I guess that was complimenting enough. HAHA. My father and I (mostly Dad) taught Mom how to shoot guns at the range and that was all positive reinforcement. She really did a very good job. I have improved myself since the last time out. It's just fun.

Glad to hear it was a good weekend for everyone. Hoping to get to bed early tonite because I'm exhausted. I'll try to throw out some more compliments this evening too!

You girls are great!

Hello ladies-- hope you all had a great weeeknd.. I spent mine mainly indoors as I worked over Friday and then took a friend to a Dr (she nor her hubby drive) so by the time I got home it was 1pm and I was whipped but could not sleep -- fell asleep a few times that day and went to bed 4am Saturday to wake at 9 for weigh in .. cleaned out the car washed windows...then napped on and off Saturday and did the rest of my laundry Sunday.. lots of cooking today-- pot of soup and stuffed peppers-- some vegetarian and some not.. PHEW!

One bite, one day, one pound at a time. Remember you are worth the effort!

Pheonix (and everyone else!)- Sorry I haven't been active lately besides posting the challenges. I have been so ridiculously busy because of the grade level switch that I mentioned at the end of last month that all I can really do is pop on to post a challenge right before bed. (As I am staying at work most days until 6 or later and my weekends are spent recovering from exhaustion from my work week!) :( I miss you guys and the thread though and I'm hoping that after this week things calm down a bit and I can be more active!

Hey ladies!

I did do walking outside yesterday. Went sidewalk sale shopping for the end of the summer season in York Beach, ME. Although it was only about 2 hours of shopping, it was beautiful there. I hit the snooze button in the morning, so I didn't get in my regular workout. That was not my smartest move.

Today I was supposed to help my boyfriends sister move, but then they decided they didn't want me to help because I'd have alot of driving to do. Nothing that would bother me, but they were being kind when they realized she doesn't have much to move. Guess I'll actually be working out indoors because the dog is staying with mom so I could spend the day moving. Oh how plans change so quickly.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I actually suprised myself and did an outdoor activity. My cousin and I took a bunch of her church's youth group kids on a 3 mile hike. I'm exhausted! Afterwards we had hot dogs and smores which most likely cancelled out our long walk but it was a fun saturday!

Thursday challenge: I like my fruits raw. I do eat frozen berries as they are cheaper and I will only eat bananas in bread/muffins. I hate the texture.
Veg I do mostly cooked, except for your salad type fare (lettuce, cucumber)

Weekend challenge: We went to a park in Tachikawa and spent the day there. Lots and lots of walking. Rain all day Saturday (and my ankle needs to recoup) so hopefully something family fun on Sunday.

I tend to eat my fruits and veggies raw as well. It's just easier to get them in that way. I really detest carrots though. I have had it with trying to make myself eat them. Done. So as far as veggies go, I slack a bit unless I have a nice big salad. Then I fill it with everything I can think of. My current fav right now though is raw mushrooms in hummus. It's very filling. I've also tried cucumbers sliced up with a bit of italian seasoning. That's pretty good.

I'm likeing the sound of the orange slices with coconut. I'm going to have to try that.

Thursday Challenge: Fruits I am all about the plain/raw!
Veggies are raw during the day if snacking, and are either Roasted or sauteed with olive oil, red pepper and garlic at night, depending on the main dish.

Fruits are usually plain ol' RAW and nothin on em.

Veggies are another story - I like most raw with just a hint of a light dip or dressing of some kind. Hubby likes his veggies cooked so we do a lot of stir fry and steaming etc.

Thursday Challenge: depends on the veggie/fruit, and what mood i'm in!

I prefer things like broccoli, green beans & squash cooked, but I'm fine eating raw or cooked baby spinach, carrots, etc. Then there's the traditional raw veggies like celery, cucumber, etc. that are great with hummus, cheese or on their own.

As for fruits, same story! "Raw" berries are my fave, on their own or in cereal. Also, I'm all about baking granny smith apples for dessert though, especially as the weather gets cooler! (although there's nothing wrong with a crisp apple & peanut butter!)

Thursday's challenge: I'm pretty good about eating fruits. I love apples, banana's, strawberries, and grapes and eat them it the mornings usually. I struggle to add vegetables in because I don't like veggies raw but I'm slowly learning to cook. I like asparagus, potatoes, broccalli, cucumbers, and I have a new appreciation for bell peppers and egglplant. With cucumbers and tomatoes I add them into my sandwhiches/wraps. The other veggies I make a stir fry loaded with them and I just learned how to make eggplant parmesean which tastes pretty amazing.
I started buying the v8 fusion and that has one serving of fruit and one serving of vegetables in an 8oz glass so if I don't have the time/effort to eat and can get that in.

I take my fruit and vegetables plain for the most part. If it's available, I'll dip veggies in a light ranch dressing, and if I'm feeling creative, I'll make a fabulous pia colada dip for fruit. In salad form, my veggies get low fat/fat free ranch, or fat free Italian.

Fave fruits: everything - I've never found one I didn't like (except tomatoes in their pure form)

Fave veggies: carrots, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, spinach, lettuce
