Wow Team! What a great drive today! We made it almost all the way to San Diego today, and are ready to hit the town on Saturday. I rented us a beautiful home in Mission Beach, just 8 miles from downtown. We can make it our "home base" for our time in the San Diego area.

Mission Beach is one of the most exclusive, luxurious beach communities. Our house is on a long, thin spit of land shaped like a hook (similar to Cape Cod's geography). Mission Bay, containing several coves and smaller bays, is to East, with the Pacific Ocean to the West.

It takes less than a minute to walk from the expansive ocean side beach to the beaches on the bay side! We have a rental on Santa Barbara Cove, which is where the Yacht Club & Marina is located. I hope you'll enjoy the home's spa-like amenities and amazing views!

Hi Dee! I took the miles we've earned, and applied them to the distances we need to travel on our road trip... We had 40 miles left after adding in all the Wednesday miles/exercise. If you have any questions, just let me know!

I've had a VERY strange week... and my Thursday follows the pattern.
I'm not posting any exercise for today - got some stuff done through the day, but nothing that would count.

However, since you all have been on track, we have another 36 miles in our tank. So let's hit the road Friday morning, and head to San Diego! We need 130 miles to get there, and another 50 to get around and see the sights; so we have plenty more to do.

The drive down is GORGEOUS! I know taking the I-5 freeway is a lot quicker, but let's stick to the coast and enjoy the ocean views. Plus, we'll be able to stop in the small towns on the route, rather than depend on what food is available at the freeway exits .

Hi team! I forgot to divide my latest exercise minutes by five (5), so had to redo all the math! Sorry for the delays...

We spent 33 miles getting from Upland to Santa Monica, visiting the Pier, et al; and then we used 30 miles coming down to San Pedro, my home base.
Universal was a drive – 70 miles round trip – but it was easy to park nearby and get started on seeing the sights… Didn’t it feel great touring City Walk?!

Long Beach Aquarium (its real name is “Aquarium of the Pacific”) is a mere
15 miles round trip from home, and my parking passes got us close again.
With all the driving and walking we’ve been doing, I’m sure we needed the break we got on Wednesday. (We have 40 miles left in the tank.)

I hope you enjoyed relaxing on our beach today – another sunny, pleasant, mild California day – and rested up for the last leg of our trip. For those who visited the Cabrillo Marine Museum, isn't that a hidden gem? Even though it's tiny, especially compared to Long Beach's, it's rich in diversity and factoids!

I sent a thank you card to the sea mammal caretaker who took us "behind the scenes" to the world renown Sea Mammal Rescue Center. It's interesting to see the many animals they've rescued and are nursing back to health.

As for getting on the road again, we're a little short on miles...
Let’s get moving, put them in the tank, and then we can say:
SAN DIEGO, HERE WE COME!!! emoticon emoticon

The weather here, for our day at Universal City Walk, was VERY sunny and hotter than expected; thank goodness for the misters, and the good breeze!

Saturday & Sunday

Exercise 60 + 115 min = 12 + 23 = 35 miles
Water 22 + 20 = 42 cups (water, not soda or milk, etc)

Team exercise 64 + 35 = 99 miles
Team water 30 + 42 =70 cups

Hi everyone, so glad you all made it safely to MY place! I’m sure we’ll cover at least 200 miles here in Los Angeles – I want to show you ALL the sites. I hope you enjoyed our BEAUTIFUL weather today: sunny, low humidity, about 70F, and a wonderful breeze.

For Monday: Universal City Walk – so rest your feet tonight, because
we’ll be urban hiking tomorrow! emoticon emoticon

For San Diego, I’ll set up an overnight stay at Safari Park: we’ll sleep in yurts, and attend special demonstrations with the hawks and cheetahs! That’s identical to what DD’s BFF arranged when she treated DD and SIL, and DS Scott, to a San Diego weekend.

I created a new challenge building on Dee's recent thread asking,
"Where do we go to now?" I hope you'll all join me in California!

We'll start on Saturday, May 18th, at Upland. I've been to Upland - it's inland from the coast about 50 miles. Let's take the I-10W freeway to Santa Monica, and celebrate our first leg with a day of fun on their world-famous pier (my son Scott's favorite place to go on his first dates).

Then, I invite you down to visit my home. It's 30 miles down the beautiful, scenic Pacific Coast Highway. I'll take you around the Port of Los Angeles:
we can walk down the Promenade, and sample dozens of varieties of fish and seafood at the Fish Market, cooked to order.

The third, and longest, part of our road trip can be San Pedro to San Diego - 130 miles. I won free tickets to Sea World, and I'm a member of the Natural History Museum there in Balboa Park, so we have lots of options for having fun AND walking off lots of calories.

Let's do ONE MILE for each FIVE MINUTES of cardio exercise. emoticon

Leg 1 = 50 miles = 250 minutes
Leg 2 = 30 miles = 150 minutes
Leg 3 = 130 miles = 650 mins

See you on the road!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
