I am Diabetic T2 also. I limit my carbs in AM because that is when my numbers are highest. I then keep all other meals to 15-30 complex carbs or fruit per meal. I also work out 1-2 hrs every day. It works. I've been able to get off Glypizide and am only taking 1 Metformin per day. The working out helps my sleep, which also helps my Blood Sugar numbers. Feel free to email me if you have other questions.

Hi everyone. Wondering if anyone else is Diabetic? I am type II. I have been trying a low carb approach lately. It seems to be great for losing weight but I am not sure how I feel about it long term. My blood sugar varies so much now depending on what I eat.

Just looking to see if anyone has any opinions or experience in this area.

I have had a few ups and downs this quarter and that was definitely reflected in my weight. I am back at Post after a wonderful R&R back home. I just checked with my office and have been approved for my final R&R in July. As of today I have 100 days until I go. So I am kicking myself in the butt and knuckling down on my plan. A bonus for me right now is that my roommate is out of town as are a few of my friends who are food pushers which is helping me out.

Next quarter I plan on crushing it!

This past week has been great for me. I know it's only a week, but still. I've been eating all raw foods (with a few exceptions) and I feel better and the weight is coming off. I've lost almost 6 pounds. That doesn't mean I'll keep losing weight that fast and I'm okay with that. I just like that I feel better and I get to create some great recipes.

I am very grateful for the information Spark offers in their articles on managing eating disorders. Lots of great tools. They really helped me but I still struggle once in a while. I now know that a binge incident doesn't mean that I should beat myself up or EVER give up. Instead, I increase my efforts to deploy the tools.

Since I started about 6 weeks ago I've had 3 bad nights of binge eating and every single time has been on days when I have not spread out my eating all day but rather gotten to the evening with most calories still saved but me being STARVING and then ending up binging on junk (once an entire banana bread loaf! - one slice just lead to another and another and another.........) . So I've learned that for me the spread out frequent healthy eating is super important. My journey thus far with spark people has been good as I am learning a lot of these things about myself =)

There is a Teavana at our mall. I will check it out.

I had a good day until dinnertime. I waited too long, fort too hungry, and grabbed a Bunch of nuts. That put me over my ranges by 6 calories ( b r one a streak). I did not exercise today so my calorie differential was only -200. That won't get me to my weight loss goal. Gotta keep on track.

YES I LOVE my herbal 'dessert' teas. There are 2 kinda upscale tea boutique chains that I like to go to that each have over 100 types of loose leaf teas that you can smell and sample and buy - David's Tea and Teavana. They have tea catalogues too that you can read through or take home and review to see what new things you might want to try. I really like the chocolate mint, white chocolate christmas frost, roobois creme caramel, and creamy nut flavours. Let me know if you find any that you like =)

I like to drink soda water with tons of ice in it. It feels like a treat but with 0 calories =) and it is just a different way to drink liquids as sometimes I feel like I am flooding myself out with plain water!

I make a green juice regularly, too. I track it be putting the base items in as a group, contains items that are usually included. Then I delete items that aren't' in that day's mix or add any err extra items.

I have learned that even if I blow the food plan, if I track what I ate, it usually end up being less than I thought and the moist track review helps me make the commitment to get back to the plan or make adjustments to lower calorie ranges over the next few days. Often tracking will stop a binge. Tracking reminds me that this is a journey. I use both the full web site and the phone application to track. It has made such a difference and is a success key.

METALJEN - me too! I keep a food journal and write down everything but the tracker is a pain for me because I drink a lot of homemade green juice and homemade soups. I have to try to enter the recipe in the recipe section first. And since I rarely make the same recipe twice it is a real pain. Plus, I'm not one to really measure much. But I know my recipes are made with nothing but healthy, clean ingredients so I really don't worry about it:)

I thought I'd just jump right in and say "hi"! emoticon Here are few tips that I find really help me ~~ now if I just would do them more often.

* drink room temperature water instead of iced water. I actually drink water straight from the tap and don't add ice to my water bottle.

* remember there is water is a ton of other things ~~ fruits, veggies, other drinks, etc.

* carry a water bottle everywhere

* to get in some exercise I will set my timer for just 10-15 minutes. Some times it's all I do and other times I do more. At least I get in some exercise.

My problem isn't about knowing, it's about the doing. I know what to do, but sometimes I just don't. I need a good kick in the butt to get in gear. emoticon

ACM - That's nearly 10 lbs in your first 2 weeks! That's amazing!! I read about your evening peppermint tea too which is a great strategy:)
WALKINGITOFFNOW - Do you play DDR on Xbox kinect? I really need to find some fun, in-home exercises. Just doing a walking video or even a zumba video just doesn't hold my attention. But a game would I bet!
FAVALL - My challenge right now is getting enough water in while it is so cold. I already drink quite a bit of cold green juice each day so I'm having to really up my herbal tea and warm lemon water because I just can't motivate myself to drink cold, plain water when it is really cold. I'm also working on fun, in-home exercise for the days when I can't get outside or to the pool. I'm learning tai chi, which I am loving but for some reason, fitness videos just bore me silly!

Walking it Off Now,
I am not usually a walker - my excuse is I don't have the time =( But today I spent 1/2 of my lunch break walking outside and I felt GREAT afterwards. It was -12^C outside and FREEZING but that just motivated me to walk FASTER - LOL I really did feel so optimistic and energized afterwards! I am going to try to go out on more mid-day walks now.

One week in to my office's 17week challenge and I am down 3.4lbs! Yay! And that was just with getting myself moving at least 7000steps a day.

This week I am concentrating on purposeful exercise and water intake. I am trying for a minimum of 75ozs of water a day (my water bottle holds 25ozs so I just need to drain it 3 times a day). I am also walking with a co-worker right after work and also doing the Walk Away the Pounds dvds at night.

ACM1978 - Dance Dance Revolution is an excellent game to play - so much activity and it's actually fun!

Last week was my 1st week so lost big = 8lbs

This week was my 2nd week so lost less = 1.7 lbs

Almost let that discourage me BUT I know that that is what has led to my failure in the past so worked really hard on talking positively to myself. I reminded myself I have exercised for 16 days straight, likely gained some muscle, and am forming a long-term life style change of sustainable changes.

Then focused on what I could do that would be FUN for exercise today - ended up spending an hour with my hubby and 2 kids playing Dance Dance Revolution on the xbox - fun and fat burning = win win win

Thanks for the morning workout encouragement. I typically workout in evening but know that AM workouts really help manage the blood sugar values. I have a current goal to workout 4 days a week and build it as a habit.

I,too, have experienced physical strength, flexibility, and balance since working irregularly. It really works! I am using the SparkPeople assessment tool to track my progress.

Hello All,
I got up early again this morning before my 2 young kiddos to do an 1/2 hour on the elipitical so WHOOP WHOOP! And I got say that I feel SOOOO much better on those mornings that I get exercise in. The feeling of the early alarm sucks but that rush or endorphins and the energy I have going into the day after exercising is worth it emoticon

I started exercising a couple of months ago and at the "intake" at the gym I could only do 3 situps - and barely! Lately though I can do sets of 15 which is awesome and then funny thing is that now I LOVE doing situps! I used to hate them because they were so hard and i was so bad at them but now it is just so satisfying to feel the muscles move and feel that success! I am now going to try to work on doing a push-up and who knows maybe in a month or so I will be loving those emoticon

Any-Who just wanted to share a couple of encouraging fitness things - I love hearing about other peoples successes!

Have a GREAT day!
Amanda

Little victories - what a great topic, thanks guys! I have had massive blood clots in my right leg and groin. The veins were damaged and the circulation was impaired. That leg got to be a LOT bigger than the left. Part of that was edema from the impaired circulation but the doctors said the damage was permanent. I've lost 60lbs so far but I didn't realize my leg had begun to heal from the inside out until I tried on some jeans someone gave to me. I haven't been able to wear anything but stretch pants for years but I tried anyway cuz I REALLY miss wearing jeans... they fit! I'm posting a picture on my sparkpage to show the difference in my leg. So much for "permanent" damage... Plant strong forever!!!

Hello Everyone,
I am excited to be a part of this Quarter Challenge. I think it will be encouraging to get to know the others in the challenge and to cheer each other on emoticon

I want to share a little bit about myself and I hope to get to know some of you over the coming quarter as well!

I'm a 35 y/o wife & mother of 2 young boys, a university prof & a clinical director at a child mental health center, & have about 120lbs to lose.

I have tried many diets over the past few years and they all start off well for the first few weeks and then I slip up, get depressed and give up. I really like that SparkPeople focuses on small changes and goals along the way.

I have joined a crossfit centre and have started going 3 times a weak. Feel the BURN! LOL
Today was my 2nd week going to crossfit and I was soooooo sore from last week that I was limping my way in and kinda afraid to go! But I went and it was good - I felt a lot better once I got my muscles really warmed up and moving =) I was really quite worried about it but I had a goal to go 3 times a week so I just made myself go and I am so glad that I did. I thought it would be worse then it was - Fears conquered always seem so much smaller in the rear view mirror!

Another recent little victory is that I went to a church luncheon with my family on the weekend and managed to make all healthy choices! It was a potluck so there was lots of options but I was really pleased that I did not over-eat or choose junk.

I think that a big thing I've learned from past failures is that its important to celebrate the small victories. If anyone else has hed any small victories lately I would love to hear them.

GO TEAM GO
