I am on day four of the Flat Belly Diet and have lost 5 lbs. I also have not had any heart palpitations that I was having before, nor the pains in my side. I had my gallbladder out and was having some problems with pains in my side like a gallbladder attack, but of course not one. They have stopped, quite amazed. I will stay on this diet! Day five got on the scale this morning down two more lbs.
Down 8 lbs in one week. I did not cheat once on this diet. I feel great and feel like I will succeed
with this. emoticon

I went library and got the book "flat belly diet" there are several books, one for men, a travel size, a journal and a cook book. then when I read the book and decided it was interesting I went to a book outlet place we have called McKays... found it for a dollar... found all the other parts to the set too. I have been doing this for a little over a month and it is easier than other things I have tried. Hope that helps, of course you can always go to big chain book stores online and get it too. if you do go out and find at outlet type place real cheap if they have more than one may want to get them per there is journaling you do in it and you can write in the book ...

The rest of my life will be the best of my life.

Started the 4 Day Jump Start today. Anyone else?

I moved away from Flat Belly a while ago. I loved this way of eating....it seems healthy and sensible. I'm glad to be back. My family loved all of the dinner recipes so hopefully I'll lose these pesky pounds and feel satisfied by the variety while doing it!

Happy Memorial Day!

Also with regard to the sassy water:

Cucumber - make sure you peel it thoughly. Leftover little hints of green will make the recipe taste bitter.

Lemon - Diet has you during the jumpstart going through entire jug (when made with 2 liters water) daily. If you aren't going to be using it up so fast, do not leave lemon peels in as beverage will go bad faster. (It's still okay to drink but the taste turns more harsh over time beyond the first day).

Mint - original recipe called for a dozen mint leaves.
( I, however. discovered that I really liked the mint so I often end up putting in extra.)

Ginger - original recipe called for about 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
but rather than having to wash grater for such a small amount, I just chop/mince a few slices.

I still love the as my drink of choice. No bordum and everything else tastes sweeter like unsweetened applesauce which used to turn me off. Plus it helps reduce bloating as an extra bonus!

Ginger - I use about three thin slices (the recipe says finely ground but I don't care for grit)
Cucumber - medium one peeled and sliced (ours a big so I adjust by my own preference)
Mint - I only one or two leaves as mine are fresh which makes their flavor stronger)
Lemon - I use two sliced as personal preference. (It balances the cucumber flavors)

Drop it all in my gallon pitcher and fill with water. Let it sit in the fridge overnight. If the flavor is strong then I add some water to my cup. Some people can't stand cucumber flavors but like I said I balance it with how much lemon. Like right now cucumbers are huge and lemons are smaller in my store so I eat some extra slices of cucmber or add extra lemon. The thinner you slice the more surfaces for flavor to be absorbed.

I've seen other hints of flavor water recipes on shows but haven't looked them up yet since starting this one. Good luck! Let me know what you think of it too!

Smiles! Janet

I liked the 4 day jump start better than I am liking the 28 day plan. I substituted some yellow squash for some of the tomatoes as suggested in the pocket guide. Then I happened to get slightly excited and confused looking for how to eat the lunch with turkey, tomatoes and string cheese. I ended up doing a sautee that has become a favorite to me.

Deli Turkey (cut into small squares) 4 oz
Cherub Tomatoes (cut in half) 1/2 pint
Yellow Squash (sliced and quartered)
Mini Bella Brown Mushrooms (sliced) 1 pint
Low Fat Mozzerella String Cheese (cut in chunks)
McMormicks Perfect Pinch of Garlic & Herb Seasoning (Salt/Pepper Free)

I started the sautee with the mushrooms and squash
Then added the tomatoes and sprinkled the seasoning
Lastly I added the turkey and string cheese

It came out awesome and filling!!!

I never strictly followed the 28-day using their menus.
I did/do use some of the menus from the book and from the free portion of the Prevention site for meals; but, mainly I used them as ideas to convert some of our old standard menus to be FBD friendly or to create some menus of my own (or sometimes alter the FBD menus) to work better with life and seasonal/weekly sales here.
I know others made many alterations to the plan menus; some for health reasons, some due to ingredients not available (or out-of-season and too expensive) where they were, and some just due to food likes/dislikes. That is perfectly fine and they still had good results.
On the other hand, sometimes there is something nice to having the menus all worked out for you so you don't have to think about food so much. I think that is a big appeal for redoing the jumpstart periodically, to get back on track and to just not have to plan for a few days :)

As for time, well I like cooking once and then having enough leftovers for 1-2 more meals.... often within the next day or two, sometimes part of a huge batch where half gets frozen.

Turkey does have alot of sodium. It is good occassionally but often I'll substitute chicken (which is lower in sodium and usually less expensive).

Sorry I rambled on but hope part of that may have helped.
Basically you have to do what works for you.
I know many liked following the 28day (or their slightly altered version of it) as it gave them more time following the plan and getting used to how it works before they were thrown into the world of having to create their own FBD meal plans. It can get tough when you try to make the transition from preplanned meals to do-it-yourself planning. Some people not so much because they are more experienced with good planning on everyday basis and well some of us are "a work in process", moving toward consistent good meal planning from our prior meal-plan-disaster world

Good Luck emoticon

Also - do not forget the after meal 10-minute walk as it is important part of battling belly bloat.

I am on Day 2. Day 1 went pretty well. I couldn't eat the pint of tomatos and I realized that by going cheap and not getting the organic turkey, I was subjecting myself to a lot of sodium and probably negating the anti-bloat effect. But, I am still 2 pounds less than I was yesterday, so I consider that a huge success. The real challenge will be days 3-4, since those go over the weekend. But, it seems like there is never a good time to start. I am not sure about the 28-day plan, it seems like it would be expensive/time-consuming to follow. Any thoughts?

ORCHIDZZZ -
Sorry meant to answer your question yesterday, about the balsamic vinegar -
Yes they do allow that on the jumpstart.

Also with regard to the tomatoes,
I remember that someone had had the good idea of adding italian seasoning and heating them rather than eating them raw.
One of the books also says that you can substitute a cup of sauteed yellow squash for a pint of tomatoes..... I was thinking that I might cook the yellow squash and the tomatoes together (with the spices) then split them into two meals to get the right portions.

I was planning on doing Jumpstart again myself - just have been having trouble finding 4-days in a row to do it. I've got all the food now except don't have enough of the sassy water ingredients for 4days ...I did but ended up using part of the lemons, cucumber, and almost all the mint for other things over the past week.... while I was wainting for the sales this weekend to get chicken and fish.

I just made up a big batch of new drink that I like that I may just use in place of part of the sassy water. Its got mint, ginger, lemon juice, and crushed pineapple pureed in the blender with a little water ...then transferred to my big mixing bowl; and, stir in 1 c. unsweetened pineapple juice, 2 cups 100% pure pomegranate juice, and a several cups more water.

Hello all. I pulled out my old Flat Belly Diet book and am going to start Monday with a co worker. We figured we can watch each other and do it together. The Jumpstart was difficult but I managed last time and will do so again!

Now.. does anyone know if we can have the basalmic vinegar in the JS? I want to use it for the tomatoes. That was the hardest part for me.. eating all those grape tomatoes!

Tiff, when I did the diet the first time around I used regular skim milk did not even realize I was to use lactose free. I plan on using the Almond Breeze almond milk low in calories and very good. Make sure if you do try it you do not get the sweetened one. 40 calories for 1 cup for the unsweetened.

Good luck all

2013 will be my success! I will go from stressed and sedentary to happy and healthy.

Tiff, don't worry about it, the 4 day jump start doesn't make or break the diet! You'll still get tons of benefit doing the regular one. I went off the plan last night, someone said something ignorant to me at school which totally triggered my emotional eating response, and while I felt really crappy about it then, I stepped on the scale this morning to a lower number, just reminding me that little setbacks don't derail the whole thing!!

Darn! This is my second time doing the 4 day jumpstart and I was determined to stick it through to the end without any cheating. Today is my second day and I've been having heart palpitations and can't seem to get rid of them. I've had them before but it's really acting up these last couple days and I'm assuming it's from the diet. I just can't stay on this 4 day jumpstart diet anymore. I'll try going to the normal diet yet still try to stay away from the saltier foods. I'm just so discouraged! I really wanted to do it this time! But I've got to listen to my body and it's saying I need to eat more. Good luck to the rest of you!

I'm not sure about substituting soymilk, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I've just started day one of my jump start again. I just pretty much gave up on losing weight for a while and now I'm back, pretty excited to try again.

Not too bad: I lost two pounds from the last time I weighed myself about three weeks ago. Given I went to London and ate horribly (or fabulously, depends on your point of view) for almost two weeks, and started the JS three days after I returned home, I'm purty darned proud of myself!

Thanks everyone! I lost 3 lbs and 6 total inches after the Jumpstart! Very exciting. I had an awesome weekend using the Family cook book for my extended family that came to visit for Easter and I was full all the time and not tempted at all to snack on candy or anything. I even brought muffins to a pot luck at church for Breakfast on Sunday morning (my youth group kiddos had to be there at 5:15 to run Sunrise Service!!!) And I ate my 2 muffins after the service was over and was just fine until we got home at lunch time! This has been really great so far and I hope it continues!!

Yeah I've definitely needed to tweak the ingredients for the Sassy Water! Way to strong the first time. I left the lemon the same and just cut everything else back by about half. Now its not so bad. I feel the worst in the mornings when I have a really bad headache, but after some Excedrin it goes away! I also finally got myself to Whole Foods Market where I could get some bulk raw sunflower seed kernels, what was taking me so long in the mornings and such was getting the darn things out of the shell! Now I think it'll be easier. I'm feeling pretty good now, I got the Family cook book and I'm going to sit down with my husband tonight and plan our "easter weekend" meals from that. My Mother-in-law and sis-in-law are coming and their visits usually spell doom for me (they don't always respect my kitchen and their cooking is good old "southern" cookin!) So if we have it all planed out and I've purchased all the ingredients there shouldn't be anything they can do! Luckily I'll be done the jumpstart tomorrow and can start on the 28 day plan after that!! Thanks a bunch!

Scorbitt---Stick with it. The first 4 days are the hardest and then you'll figure it out. The first time I did it to a T. Subsequent Jump Starts I have had caffeine and I also usually put the sunflower seeds and raisins in a snack bag for a treat later in the day. I don't go overboard with the coffee...a cup or two in the morning with Splenda and then a cup of decaf after dinner. It seemed to keep me on track. Drinking TONS of water helps, too. I really like the Sassy Water so that was a plus for me. You can also tweak that with more or less of those ingredients. Some people leave out the mint....others less ginger. Do what works for you.

Keep us posted!

Just started FBD. On Day 2 of Jumpstart. I couldn't believe how hungry I was yesterday! But I know a lot of it is just me giving up my Diet Coke! That's the hardest part for me, that and coffee!! I'm having to take headache medicine to ward off the impending caffeine withdraw headaches!! I was starving last night after dinner but I've managed to not give into cravings so far. I've found it helps if I don't eat my sunflower seeds with my meal, and eat them in between, I'm a grazer when I eat so just eating 4 times is actually kinda hard for me! I hope this goes well for me because I really feel like I'm at my wits end with this whole thing!! Ever since my 2nd son has been born I just haven't lost anything and its really frustrating. I've worked so hard and to not see any results is really crazy. I like what this diet offers (on paper) so if I could just make it through the next few days that would be great!

Laurobnat----sounds like you are figuring it out!!! Good for you! It is a tasty and healthy way of eating. I got the FBD Cookbook the other year and use it regularly. My family has LOVED everything we've tried, so far. That includes teenage kids and my husband. My husband and son do have 1.5-2 servings of everything in order to feel full. I usually double the recipes to use the left overs for a quick dinner or lunch anyway.

Good luck!

I have been eating cornflakes, raisin, and sunflower seeds with milk for breakfast, for lunch I took one string cheese and cut it in 1/2 and added broccoli sprouts and roasted bell pepper strips and wrapped cajun seasoned turkey breast around it and tucked it into a red leaf lettuce cup- rolled it up- it was pretty good. For dinner I had greek style turkey burger along with mushrooms and green beans. So far so good but my hubby was hungry after dinner last night because I limited him to one burger . Doing the fruit smoothie - mid afternoon. Since I eat breakfast so early 6am I added a mid morning snack of 1/2 an apple -sliced, V8 and 14 almonds. Otherwise I'd never make to lunch!

TODAY IS YESTERDAY'S TOMORROW!

I decided to postpone it because I had a lot of away from home time and plans I had to do and tomorrow is my birthday. Although I am still eating healthy, and I have lost another pant size with completely confuses me. emoticon

Its been awhile since I did the 4 day jumpstart, but, as I recall I mixed everything together heated it a bit and added some balsamic vinegar. With the carrots, cheese, tuna and vinegar it tasted a bit like a salad.

How are you doing so far? I did cream of wheat every meal for breakfast, I could not see purchasing three different cereals.

I started the 4 day JS today. I couldn't eat the whole breakfast, I'm not a big breakfast person so I ate half. I couldn't find any unsweetened cereal, corn or rice so I got rice cereal because it had the least amount of sugar. I ended up adding the sunflower seeds to the cereal because I'm not a big fan of those either. Question though, is there anything I can add to the tuna at lunch? I'm not sure that I can eat tuna alone...

Hi to all! I am currently on day 2 of the 4 day plan and I was wondering if anyone is exercising? Before starting, I would workout for 30minutes in the morning before eating. I really enjoy going to the gym and would hate to give it up! Thanking you in advance for any feedback!

Much love,
Ashley

Just had an idea I am going to try for the Jumpstart, so I thought I'd share!

I LOVE the taste of the sassy water, but I'm not always a fan of the daily peeling and slicing. So I am going to start freezing the whole concotion (the sliced cucumbers, lemon, mint, and ginger), and then just dump it into a pitcher and add water the night before I need it. Hopefully it won't change the taste too much, if this works it could be a good timesaver for anyone who likes sassy water.

hope you all have a good day!

Chavygirl-

I concur that the ginger and lemon/lime substitutions are fine as long as you like the taste.

I like cucumbers but had some problems with it becoming too bitter in the sassy water over the course of the day. I discovered that if I made sure to thoroughly peel the cucumbers, this was no longer a problem.

Good Luck!

i have been using ground ginger instead b/c I didnt feel like buying real. Just make sure before you strain the water to shake your water pitcher. i forgot to do that 1 day. The last glass of water in the pitcher was yellowish and then I looked and realized all the ground ginger was at the bottom. I persoanlly like the taste better at room temp. When it was ice cold i felt like I was drinking a salad. the cucumber taste wasnt as strong at room temp. I dont see where lime would be a problem. The idea is just to make water taste better. The 1st day may be a bit hard. but I am on day 3 and I am enjoying the taste of the water. Plus I got on the scale this morning and I lost 3.5lbs so that made everything that much better!!

I have just ordered the pocket guide, as it was all I could afford right now, will it be sufficient to get me started? Can I substitute lime for the lemon and use ground ginger or would that mess the js up? Trying to learn as much as I can by reading everyone's posts until I can go buy the book and the groceries LOL Cheating maybe, but I really am anxious to be able to do something!Oh, wait, did I really read NO COFFEE??? emoticon

emoticon BigRed! I wish I could answer your question, but I am still new to FBD. This is a great team and someone will have an answer for you! Best of Luck! You will love it!

I just finished the Jumpstart yesterday. I lost 3.5 pounds and 3.25 inches! I couldn't be happier. emoticon

Last night I had a meeting, so my last meal of the jumpstart wasn't on the plan. But, I brought a salad that fit the FBD guidelines. I thought that was my best option. As I said when I started the jumpstart - it is hard to find 4 days in a row where I could eat the exact meals based on schedules. But I did everything else according to plan - so I am happy.

I must say, I was really excited to start the regular diet today - and to have a cup of coffee again.

emoticon for everyone's support. Looking forward to this journey with everyone.

I just purchased the FBD book yesterday. I really like the way this plan works. I can still eat all my favorite things. I am concerned about the 4 day JS. I am a teacher and I eat breakfast at 6am every morning. I dont get to eat lunch until 11:40 every day. I am concerned that 5 1/2 hrs is too long bwtn meals, especially since you are told meals every 4 hrs. I plan to follow the JS exactly but has anyone added in an extra food item. I hvae 100 cal packs of almonds that I was going to save for that time since they still follow the MUFA idea. I am just worried that I will be starving by lunchtime if I dont have a small snack.

Day 2 - Another success!

Today was little bit easier! Breakfast and dinner were both filling. Lunch left me a little bit hungry - but the smoothie helped. I still had a slight headache this morning, but it was gone by lunchtime.

We had a meeting a work this afternoon - and there was candy to munch on. I didn't have any - just my Sassy Water.

Only two days to go! emoticon

I lost 6 pounds on the Jumpstart first four days! I was not hungry at all! In fact had to make myself eat at some meals! Got a little itsy bit tired of the Sassy Water, glad that is over. This morning my breakfast was so big at 400 calories, I felt like I was eating sooooo much! Gotta say....I Love this Plan! W000 H00!

I just finished Day 1! emoticon

It wasn't too bad. I followed the menu exactly - except that I roasted my green beans with my potatoes. I don't care for steamed veggies. (I even roasted the carrots for tomorrow's lunch.)

I found I was a little bit hungry - but it was usually time to eat the next meal by then. And I did have a slight headache from not drinking any coffee. But it wasn't unbearable. I found the Sassy Water easy to drink.

I have everything ready for tomorrow. I will be having Corn Flakes again - I didn't want to buy a second cereal for one day. And I can't stomach Cream of Wheat, so it looks like it will be Corn Flakes every day.

One day down - three to go! I can do this! emoticon

Hi all! Just found this team. I did the 4 day JS in mid Sept and lost about 3 pounds. Then a sinus attack derailed my plans and I got off track. I plan to start the JS again soon and hope to continue the 28 day plan. I loooove the sassy water and did not get hungry on this plan at all. Am glad to find a team for support too!

Welcome aboard! Love your pumpkin friend!

As for your mufa at lunch on the jumpstart,
Don't feel bad this has baffled us all at some time.
I'd posted an answer before but rather than make you search for it I've recopied it here.
Hope this helps:

~~~~~~
FBD goes thru the "mufa with every meal mantra" over and over; then, they hit you with the jumpstart lunches. They don't explain themselves there. I think there is an official explanation but I can't remember what it is. (It may be buried somewhere in these boards but don't recall where).
I think of it two ways:
1) the sunflower seeds at breakfast actually are two mufa servings ... so you do end up with four mufa servings for the day.
2) mozzarella cheese (1 oz) actually does contain 1.4 grams of "mufa"/good fats...
so though it isn't on the official "mufa" lists
you could consider it a mufa source.
Just got my book this week, reading it and getting ready to tackle the 4 day Jumpstart. However, I am confused, no MUFA on the lunch menu for the first four day? Perhaps this has been asked before, does anyone know why? Especially since it is said over and over in the book a MUFA with every meal?!?!?!!?
Kathy, you have been doing emoticon !!! A 70 pound weight loss??? emoticon The jumpstart is very simple. You will see results. I didn't have coffee Day 1 and 2. I would be a liar if I told you I didn't have any on Days 3 and 4 because I did. Otherwise, I stuck to everything in the four day plan. Hence, the results!!! emoticon Looking forward to more variety in my meals. Please join our Halloween Challenge too! Have a look!!! Keep us posted!!!
Cheers!!!
Michelle, congratulations, those are great results!!
I start the 4-day JS today. I am glad that I planned it so that it ends by this weekend. I am loving the Sassy water, the one thing that is worrying me is that I can't have coffee - I usually have 2-3 cups a day and didn't wean myself off of it. So I took some aspirin to help with the caffeine withdrawal that I know will hit me soon.
I'm really eager to see results! I've been in a plateau after losing 70 lbs. and this eating plan sounds perfect for me!
Good morning, FBD'ers!!!
Today is Day 4 on the Jumpstart!!! The last day! I have already lost 6.6 pounds!!! emoticon This is emoticon I am gonna measure my waist tomorrow but I can tell it has gone down ALOT!!!
I must confess I had coffee yesterday morning. It didn't taste that great. I may have some this morning. Not sure!
To answer the previous question...caffeine has a tendency to make your belly bloat and it also encourages gas...hence, the recommendation for no caffeine. If you cannot live without your morning coffee then have it! I am pretty confident you will still see results...as long as you don't load your coffee with sugar and cream emoticon
I love the Flat Belly Diet and am really excited about the final results tomorrow and expanding my menu!!!
emoticon
Well... the eggs i had for breakfast yesterday did not help, even tho I kept with the diet the rest of the day i did not lose any weight. Still 3lbs in 3 days not bad for a JS. I my last day, we'll see what the scales will bring me in the morning.
Hello Fellow FBD'ers!!!
Today is Day 3...I have lost another pound! This makes 5 pounds in total!!! emoticon I think painting for 2 1/2 hours yesterday didn't hurt either!
I have been adding an apple after supper. It hasn't hurt anything.
Coffee has been non-existent since Thursday. I can't believe it! I love my Tim Hortons coffee in the morning!
Two more day...then an expanded menu!!!
YAY!!!
Have a good one!!!
It's day 3 for me and I am 3lbs down!!!
I went out to breakfast with my husband this morning, so what I ate was small but way off. I am going to pick up the diet with lunch and do the 30 day shred tonight, Hopefully it will help.
emoticon It's Day 2!!! I have lost 4.2 pounds. Even though I ate an apple after supper. I have been staying away from the caffeine as well which is HUGE for me!!!
Anyone else doing the JS?
Hello everybody!!
I started the JS 2 days ago, i did not fallowed very well on the first day, the second day was much better, but i did have a rice pudding after dinner oooppss!! I was hungry I had dinner early. I am proud to say I have been drinking all my water, which is unusual for me and I lost 2lbs so far. I hope to lose more these next 2 days. Going on vacation next Thursday, it would be nice not to be so bloated.
Oh I am also taking Diurex, I tend to retain a lot of water specially in the heat and Cali lately has been very hot. So hopefully this will help.
