My goal is to lose 15 lbs by Jan. 1st.

I'm sticking to my calories for the day but, I want to eat healthier calories.

My main goal is to eat more protein! In the week I've been on SP, I have not met my protein range even once!

Also, I want to walk every single day. It snows a ton here, so I need to make sure I'm at least getting on my treadmill when I can't go outside.

Lastly, I want to work on drinking more water. I usually drink 1-3 glasses a day, so while I might not make the 8 glasses, I'd like to at least get up to 5-6.

Hanging in there - had a couple days I just couldn't get my act together on getting in enough meals/snacks and of course it coincided with my heavy workout days. This always bites me in the backside. Such a freak since I will see the scale go up on these days and the scale go back down on the days I decide to take a day off from working out. *sigh*

I'm back!

I've been MIA because I've been studying for a promotional exam at work...took the test yesterday, so it's finally over!

I've been exercising and eating well sporadically, but it paid off because I lost 3 lbs! whoo hoo!

time to get back to seriousness...have a good weekend! I'm heading to the gym emoticon

Maintained this week for the most part but my biggest clue was I am not eating enough calories. I KNOW better but I tend to settle in to eating that 1200-1300 calories and it just bites me in the backside when I do. The days I ate more like 1400-1500, the scale shifts down. The days I ate more like 3 meals and 2 snacks - the scale shifts down. Now to retrain that part of my brain that SLOWS down and slacks... emoticon

Halloween candy is evil! I just avoid it all together. IF I have to buy candy this year (we actually do have some kids in this neighorhood now), I will buy stuff I absolutely will not eat or buy the donut coupons from the local store (and then the leftover ones go to my skinny minny spouse..hehe).

Got my gym routine back in full force. Really need to look at my dvds though and figure out how I can workout at home. I finally got a surgery date today so in 3 weeks I will be unable to drive for 4 weeks so its going to be dvds and walking. Three weeks to get myself back into the lower end of my maintenance weight....

OK so my goal is to get to 117 lbs. I don't think it's going to happen by October 23 as I had planned. I don't care I've lost 5 lbs. and I feel good.LOl Anyway that is my goal weight.

My addiction at Halloween is damn candy corn. I love that.

In general, I drink plenty of water and I've got my eating of healthy stuff under control. I just need to keep motivated for the exercise. I intend to do it every day and I'm doing maybe 3 days max and I need to kick it up a notch.

I like the La Tortilla Factory brand and the Flatouts...also Mama Lupe's. They are all higher fiber and lower carb.

What about adding some beans or hummus (which is great with cuke slices/peppers/celery/carrots/snap peas)...and/or dairy (ie milk or yogurt)? It will help boost the calorie count up, the beans add fiber..or you can increase your protein sizes.

YAY found good bread!!! All natural ingredients and nothing I can not pronounce. I think there is only about 7 ingredients in it. Obviously not as delicious as my normal 12 grain but cheese makes anything taste better lol! Now I just need to find some wraps like that.

Argh. Didn`t take any measurements -- will do that tomorrow morning.

Taking the stairs from the 14th floor to the 17th floor a number of times a day now -- better for me... each flight of stairs has 10 steps, times 2, times three or four times a day. Yay me.

Having trouble drinking the water, and tracking. Will have to do better on this.

I did take measurments last week. Foodwise I don't know what the hell to do. I eat healthy, but I just don't know. Ive tried cutting carbs but then I can't get enough calories. I should be eating around 1700 a day and Im lucky if I can get in 1200. No carbs means no calories lol. Im going to eat one thing a day bread or a wrap. Even the 12 grain stuff I find though has nasty stuff in it. Im on the look out for something better.

Please tell me you took measurements - tape scale may move before the scale. If it doesn't, then it is time to look at the tracker and the "quality" of the food.

How is everyone doing??

I have been better on getting in my snacks and spreading out my calories over the meals/snacks versus primarily evening. Definitely making a difference on the scale which is nice!

Wow! Anna and HDMC4U61, congrats on your weight loss so far; keep it up!

Weekends are rough for me too; that's when I usually slack on eating and cocktails are flowing too lol. All I can do is work on it and try to not go overboard.

Yay! I love having a team to come to with my goals. I have a feeling that this Fall is gonna ROCK!

Goal #1: reach my goal weight by New Year's Eve (means I need to lose 31 pounds).

Goal # 2: Complete at least two 5Ks this fall. I may do more but I'll be psyched if I get two in.

I wish much peace, strength and focus to my fellow tattoeed ladies! :))))

I would like to loose 20 pounds by Thanksgiving. My only downfall is the weekends, but I am going to work on that!I have lost 40 pounds and really would like to get down to at least 180 by May or June. I can and will do this! Sparkpeople has really helped me along the way and taught me so much. I will take it one day at a time!

Wow, well my summer was completely the opposite--did nothing (no jobs and no money to travel or do fun stuff) so I just read, ran/walked, and made good food. Now that school has started I have every second scheduled. It's a pain to pack and lug around multiple meals/snacks each day but food on campus (USC) is SOOOO expensive! I am still getting in all my nutrients but have relied on lots of soy products from home because they're quick and easy and high protein, and ready-made grab-and-go sushis from the various places on campus. I have to walk a lot--it's about a mile each way from campus to apartment. I want to join the marathon team and get back in shape--that has been a huge goal of mine for a long time but has not come to fruition yet. I get lazy. Another goal is to not panic over schoolwork/projects/papers/deadlines. I am all about the panic attacks and anxiety. I also hope to be able to balance study time and down time so I don't burn out too soon in the semester.

Laurie, trust me. I'm taking it one day at a time. Those are my overall goals for the next 3 months, but I realize it's a daily struggle.

Today, no exercise for me. Rest day. I went to a kid b-day party, so I had cake and ice cream. No biggie. Tomorrow I'll run after work and eat properly.

It`s been a while since I`ve joined a challenge, or even challenged myself and actually followed through with the challenge -- so I guess I`m due to get serious by now.

First part of the challenge will be to actually follow through! That will be the hardest part of it!

Today`s starting weight: 243.4 * UGH *
Goal is to shed 20 pounds by the new year.

To do this, every day I will have to:
- get back to drinking ALL my water
- get back to tracking my food intake
- get back to doing at least 10 minutes of cardio
- participate more on the SparkPeople site!

Edited by: MIMMA_ at: 9/12/2010 (13:27)

Laurie - I think if you look at it as long term goals or lifestyle change goals, it is less overwhelming. Then break it into mini goals. The "One Day at a Time" slogan works well with losing weight/fitness too.

Tipy - I just added you as a buddy (thought you were to begin with..lol) and I can make some suggestions if your tracker is public. The usual culprit to gaining weight while heavily exercising is not getting in enough calories to fuel the exercise but this doesn't always compute for all folks. I know personally I had to up my protein specifically. I ended up adding a protein smoothie (protein powder/yogurt/fruit) to my daily regimen which added 37 grams of protein for the couple hundred calories it added. SO you may want to look at changing up protein/carb numbers or shifting your calories (ie look at your tracker and see if you are eating more of your calories late in the day/evening versus morning/afternoon). Sometimes just switching things up will help the metabolism shift. You didn't say but if this is a new exercise regimen, it is possible you are just holding onto water initially. So no panic!

Msjuicy - going to Miami would work for me! emoticon

I was up and down all this week since my schedule was still slammed. Ironically the first day it actually slowed down, I was able to do my "normal" routine - ie eat 3 meals and at least 1 or 2 snacks AND workout. The scale responded with a pound down. Now to just get myself back into a daily routine of this..lol.

Hi all... I keep sabotaging myself. I was down a pound then I totally blew the eating. Pizza for dinner on Friday and yesterday we just had to celebrate having a kid-free day and went out to dinner where I totally just overate. Today I'm back on, but I already did damage. I've also already been slacking off the exercise, even though I JUST recommitted to it less than a month ago.

Today I have a lot of studying and other things to do, but I am going to make time for a walk later. It'll be my study break.

How do you guys do goal-setting for a whole three months at a time? I can't do it for more than a day or two! Too much up in the air for me right now. Things can change by the day around here and all my carefully planned scheduling just goes right out the window.

I've gained weight even though I've upped my cardio quite a bit and didn't miss a workout. I averaged 522 calories/day burned thru exercise. I did go over my calorie limit a bit but I did have an average deficit of at least 500/day! So the formula doesn't work for me obviously! I am VERY careful to enter everything that goes in my mouth!!! I get up in the middle of the night to enter something if I forgot!!!! emoticon emoticon

OH YA! It isn't muscle weight either cuz IT weighs the SAME as fat! My measurements are the same too! What gives????

I'm joining up...been slacking lately and I need to really stop crapping around and focus!

last night, a few of my girlfriends decided we're going to take a trip to Miami in May and I'm determined to get this weight off me (unless I'm lucky enough to get preggo before then lol)

So for the next 3 months, my goals are:

*be more consistent with my healthy eating habits. maybe start tracking again on a daily basis.

*run at least 3x's a week 4-6 miles (I did 3.5 today and tuesday)

*treat myself in small portions maybe 2 or 3 times a week to stave off the "binge".

*Muay Thai at least twice a week

*weight train at least twice a week

*last but not least, finally hit my first goal! My ticker has been stuck for months lol. I'm going to get it moving!

We can do this! I did lose a pound this week, but it's 1 pound of the 8 I gained this summer!

Moving forward....

SB: Hey Laurie! emoticon

I have yet to miss a workout this week!
I didn't get one in this morning but will be going for a quick run after work. Yay for routine, it keeps me in check.

Hi everyone! This'll be my first official post since I joined this team and I'm so happy there's a fall challenge starting up. I need a place to be kept accountable.

The first goal I'd set for myself was to lost 20 lbs by Thanksgiving- that's 2lbs a week. Roughly 10% of my body weight, and a good first hurdle. Will re-establish my next set point after that.

The most attainable additional steps I will take are:
Add 15 minutes of exercise all 7 days a week. I'm pretty consistent on hitting at least 4 days of actual HARD working out- but that's just enough to keep me the same and I want to lose. So I'm amping it up. Every night when I put my kids down, the first 15 minutes of time I spend will be a quick workout.

I will also be more consistent about tracking and making sure I stay in the low end of my calorie range. Not tracking means I cheat my way to the upper end of my range, where I tend to stay the same.

Have my last weight/measurements written down but not logged in to SP yet. Will add, and will check progress next on the 18th (waiting for the end of shark week! I know I'm retaining water right now and it'll just discourage me!)

Thank you so much for this longterm challenge!

I am in the middle of moving and currently commuting every week. So short term challenges are always very tough for me.

My goals are to look stunning in my wedding dress and to accomlplish this I would like to lose 10 kgs until December. (13 would be better ;))

This is a team challenge - this team has been wickedly quiet. I use to do daily challenges and normally got zero response. I can throw up some daily challenges occasionally but not willing to add more work to my plate right now. But as a team, we can post daily (or however much you want) to this thread, motivate/support each other and adjust goals as we want. emoticon

My goals are:
-lose 30 pounds by NY's
-when my foot is healed, to run every morning (or at least 5x's a week). 9/30/10: Update, I've started running in the evenings with my son. We've ran twice this week, WOO HOO!
emoticon -to begin ST. **GOAL MET 9/12/10** I started it yesterday, now I need to keep up with it! 9/30/10: Update, still working out with my ST plan as set by SP (I changed out some exercises but I'm doing ST a minimum of 3x's a week :-) WOO HOO!
-eat a fruit or veggie with EVERY meal. 9/30/10: Update, still struggling with this one
-measure my food and eat the correct portions for a least a week (I don't do this at all). 9/30/10: Update, haven't started this one, I'm still "guess-timating"
-cut out pop/alcohol completely until I reach my goal weight (then I might not want them anymore anyways ;-). 9/30/10: Have cut down but not cut out yet, it is still a goal of mine

My #1 goal is to stick to my goals!!!! It's been so very hard this year for some reason. Last year I did great at sticking to them and I lost 35lbs in 3 months! Then I gained it all back plus 5 extra and have been struggling to stay on track since. So here we go again. The goals that I would like to stick to are...

- utilize this site frequently and continue to track my food, weight, etc DAILY. I haven't been the best at that so far.

- EXERCISE. I need to spend less time on the couch and more time being active. I have a small in home gym setup and it's time I start making it a priority to use it.

- I would like to do at least 2 workout DVD's a week. If not more.

- Smaller portions.

- Drinking AT LEAST 8 glasses of water a day. I don't drink anything other then water currently but I have to remind myself to drink. Sometimes it will be dinner time and I realize I haven't had anything to drink yet for the day. So not good.

- Lose 15lbs by Halloween (av 2lbs a week)

- Lose 30lbs by Christmas (av 2lbs a week)

- Get more sleep!

It sounds like I want a lot but really most of these are just lifestyle changes that I need/want to make. So hopefully I can stay motivated.

My ultimate goal is to lose 35 lbs by the time I move to Norway in early January. Smaller goals include going to the gym 3-4 times per week and getting my children more active i.e. playing at the park and running (things I couldn't do when I weighed more).

ok - goals through the new year...stay focussed.

i am not big on the i will do this and this until some certain time. my goal is to make better decisions every day. maybe not the best just choose the better option when there is one.

i will only make committments that i am willing to stick to for the rest of my life. i cannot promise to give up french fries forever so i will not give them up at all BUT i will split a small fry with my 5 year old instead of having a large to myself. :)
i cannot give up bread or pasta but i CAN and will limit my portion and go with whole grain as often as possible.

i will eat at least one salad per day.

i want to get my water goal every single day. its sooooo hard.

at some point i should probably start exercising or soemthing :) lol

Ideally, I'd like to get down to 200 lbs, but as slow as my loss has been going lately, I'm definitely behind on that goal, so I'm thinking maybe 225 would be a good goal.

I am defintely going to stop finding excuses not to go to the gym! And I'm going to commit to doing at least 1 DVD workout at home per week and 3x Strengh Training with my resistance bands.

And come h-e-l-l or high water, October 6, I am getting a new tattoo in honor of my mom's death (10-6-2008).

Eating and exercise has been rough this week. My schedule has been horrible and I have spent way too much time driving ms daisy and everyone else around this week. I have sciatic pain going (thanks to the driving) which has slowed my pace on the treadmill. I have worked on at least getting in snacks if I can't get a meal. Once I upgrade my phone (to a droid) I can at least track my food a little easier while on the go.

My goals:

Get back to using the tracker every day (slacked off these last couple weeks)

Get back to guaranteeing my water intake (see #1's comment)

Get back to eating 3 meals and 2 snacks (versus the 2 larger meals I have been doing lately which sucks the life out of my metabolism)

See if I can bring my weight back down to the lower end of my 3-5 pound range I allow myself since I have down time with surgery coming up which means I can't drive to the gym every day.

Alright it has been awhile since we have actually done a challenge. Summer is over and kids are back in school. I don't know about anybody else but my summer was full of grab and go meals as I was dashing out the door to somewhere. There were plenty of picnics and summer parties. So now it is time to get back on track (or for some newcomers, the time to begin) with our eating habits before the holidays are upon us.

State what you want your goal to be. I would like this challenge to be a "long" range one in that it will run until New Years (and then a new one can start). Why a long one? We have halloween candy hitting the stores probably in a week if I know the marketing...then Thanksgiving and Christmas will be rolling its way in too quickly.

Use this thread to post your ongoing weight or measurements or general daily or weekly checkin towards your goals. The Tats & Chat thread will continue for ongoing chat as it has.
