Still battling my cold. My 5 miler is this weekend. Scary! I figure I'll just alternate walking and jogging and see what happens.

My ankle has been bothering me so I'm giving it a rest ahead of Saturday. It just feels like I need to pop it all of the time. However once I get going it feels fine.

And this will be my first outdoor run/walk/jog adventure. The route for my class Saturday was about 5 miles so I decided to say at the Y since there was no way I could come close to everyone else time wise over that distance. Basically I did the same thing I did Thursday, only for about an hour instead of 40-45 minutes.

Isn't life funny? I also never thought a year ago when I started running that I would ever be able to say that I enjoy it.

Hope you stay healthy. It seems like everyone at my work is sick. emoticon

I *almost* didn't go to the gym last night but decided to at the last minute.

I had a nice little jog around the track. Never thought I'd ever say that! LOL

I spend 40 minutes on the track, 25 was jogging with 15 minutes of walking mixed in when I needed a break. I even did an all out sprint for my last lap (it was so perfect for the song I was listening to). And I have to say that little sprint was FUN! Never thought I'd say that either.

I think I'm going to hit the pool tonight since we won't swim on Saturday. I'm also getting a cold so hopefully I'll make it through my workouts tonight and tomorrow.

Best of luck to you. Running outside can be a little difficult. At least it is for me because I always want to run faster than what I should be. If you can get the pace thing under control...there is nothing like it !

Had class last night and for the first time felt like I found a good pace and gait for jogging around the track. It is a slow pace but I can work on that later.

Saturday the weather is going to be nice and we are supposed to go run outside....

Hopefully that will go well for me. I just have to try to remember how it felt last night and apply it there.

As far as the shopping goes, you will be surprised. The more weight you lose the more fun it is to shop. I always dreaded going shopping esp. for a swimsuit. I had so much fun this year. I took a girlfriend of mine and I could not believe that I had several suits to chose from. I ended up spending waaay tooo much money (I have never spent much that much on a suit before) but it was soooo worth it. I have gotten compliments every time I have worn it. It is a throw back 50's style one piece....who knew!

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Well, uncoordinated swimming is still better than sitting at home watching tv on the couch! I hope next week you get back into your groove!

Morning All

I hear you on the jeans shopping! I do think I would rather look for a swimsuit LOL

Speaking of swimming, I slept in and skipped last week for my class and I could really tell when I got back in the water this week. I definitely was having one of those days where I felt like I was trying to stay afloat. I did manage to get in 700-750m of very uncoordinated swimming.

Next week should be better again though.

Just checking in. My plan this week is to just pick up walking since my hip does feel a bit better. Hopefully after a week it'll be strong enough to let me run next week so I can pick up where I left off (or just pick up running period! haha) Other than that, I have to go shopping for jeans. I think that's probably worse than swimsuit shopping, but alas, I need them very badly! Hope everyone has a greyt Monday!

I'm here and checking in. After struggling a few days with hip pain, I think I have decided to take the week off from running and just walk and work on stretches and strengthening those hip muscles. Now I'm fearful that all my hard work in running is doomed and I'll go back next week and only be able to run for five minutes instead of 20! :( I'm also afraid I'm going to gain weight since I won't be burning as many calories. UGH! Other than that, it'll be a balmy 37 degrees today, so the pup will enjoy a nice long walk! Woohoo!

Logging food is critical for me. I usually give myself 1 or 2 days off from logging a week. It has become such a lifestyle for me and if you keep with it, I have no doubts the same will apply to you sooner rather than later.

I remember going on vacation in the fall and I really did not log for 2 weeks and to be honest I was looking forward to getting back on the spark. For me I think it might have something to do with feeling like I am in control of things when I log and when I miss too many days I feel a little discombobulated.

So one area I've been bad about is eating. I started my tri class and that is going good but I've not really paid attention to food much. So this is week 2 for me of watching what I eat and logging everything. So far I'm feeling good about it.

I was a afraid I would dread having to keep track of everything again or feel limited since I've been eating whatever for a few months now. But so far so good and neither of those is an issue.

This is also my second week of really adding in the extra gym days. I had been making it one extra day a week but now I'm aiming for 2 or 3 (so 4-5 days per week total).

You guys are doing great!! Amazing ... something I'm not sure I could do. What has gotten me through on my journey is telling myself when things got tough that "i did this yesterday, so I can do it today"!! Just knowing that I did whatever it was before gave me the strength to do it again.

I'm so proud of both of you! I know what you mean though, in a much smaller sense. I'm just trying to train for a 5k and some days I'm really excited about my progress and others I wonder how on earth will I be able to run 3 miles in a row!!! I'm really pumped though.

I think it is a definitely an attainable goal. I do know how you feel though. I ran a half marathon on Saturday. I was doing really good and I was so proud of myself when I saw my finishing time but I was tired. I really pushed myself. When I had a chance to grab something to eat and reflect on the run, I got a little panicky when I realized that when I run my first marathon in April that it is double that distance. It took a lot for me to remind myself how far I have come in the last couple of months and that if I can just keep it up, I WILL BE READY!

We can do this!

Slowly working on the running thing.

At class on Tuesday I alternated running and walking and did 2.25 miles on the treadmill. I ended up running almost exactly half. Yesterday was a rest day and tonight it is back to the gym for some track time.

After running on Tuesday we did 6-7 miles on the spinning bikes. It put in perspective the tri I'm thinking about for the end of May. That has 2 miles running and 9 miles biking, plus 300 yards swimming too. It was a little disheartening to think that while I got in the running distance, I walked half of it, I would have to do 2 more miles on the bike, and the swimming too.

But then I reminded myself that I've only been do this for 7 weeks and still have 3 months to work on getting better. That made me think that I could do it, that it was an attainable goal.

Hey I am off today also. Sounds like you have the day all planned out. Your day is not so different from mine.

I am going to do some cleaning and laundry...Yuck! I am also having lunch with an old friend....Yeah! Finally I am going to try and get in my 6 mile training run as the weather here in Columbus is going to be about 40 and sunny. It was suppose to be a rest day for me as far as running but I need to take advantage of the good weather when it is here. I figure I will take tomorrow off.

I hope you are able to take your baby out for a walk.

Hello All

Just checking in today. I'm off of work today so I figure I'll catch up on some cleaning *yuck* and go do my cardio and strength training sometime before noon. If it's not too icky out I'll try to take the pup for a decent walk too. He usually peters out at about 1.5 miles though and then I have to drag him the rest of the way home. I'm in trouble if he ever refuses to budge. I simply cannot carry an 80 pound greyhound! Hope everyone has an awesome day!

The flying pig in Cincinnati? Do you live in Ohio? If so, I am not sure that I knew that. I live in Columbus and went to school in Kettering Ohio.

Most of my training group is doing the pig marathon but I had a pending commitment that weekend so I chose another marathon although it looks like I could have done that one after all. Oh well, I already registered for my event in April so I am not going to change now plus I think the course for the Flying Pig is kind of hilly.

Best of luck to you also on your continued training.

Afternoon All

Things have been busy. I'm still doing my tri class twice a week. I can tell I'm slowly but surely improving be it needing fewer breaths swimming, being able to add more weight to the pull up machine, or starting to add a few laps of jogging into my routine. In fact I just signed up for the next session of the class today. I also signed up for a 5 mile run the Saturday before St. Patrick's day, although I'll be doing mostly walking. This weekend my friends and I are going to finalize plans to do the Flying Pig run. I'll be doing the 5K and my goals is to be able to run the whole thing.

Good luck with the marathon training. My friends have done a full marathon but find they are happier doing the halfs. But they say it was good to have do one.

Hope everyone is having a greyt week. I have had to take it easy this week with my running as I did a lot of hill work last weekend and my body was really beat down with it. I am still going to try to do my long run with my training group on Saturday but I cut the running out this week except for 2 days. I am also going to get a really good massage tomorrow night. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my body will respond. My marathon is in about 9 weeks away....OMG! emoticon

I put on some capris that were getting a bit snug and they fit right now, not too tight!

My weight is the same but I can tell that the strength training is starting to work. All of those ab exercises must be doing something LOL

I had to miss Tuesday because I had a meeting but I plan on going to the gym tonight for some track time and weights.

Well first of all...kudos for you for only skipping one day of exercise after working 72 hours emoticon I can't image how difficult it is for you to find the energy to work out after a 12 hour day. I know how tired I am after working just a 40 hour week. Don't beat yourself up when you skip a day or two. Just consider it a well deserved rest day.

Some things to remember:1) exercise releases endorphines which increase energy and feelings of happiness so maybe a small amount of exercise even when you are really tired, is a good thing. 2) exercise can be fun but you have to find something you enjoy doing. Maybe on those days when you are so exhausted, you find something that doesn't really feel like exercise that you enjoy (yoga to help clear the mind, a dance video, playing with your greyhound, gardening, etc..) Don't underestimate the benefits of just moving around. You don't always have to be sweating bullets for your workout to be effective. Just think about it, you even can get fitness minutes for cleaning. It's like killing two birds with one stone (you burn calories and your house looks great...shoot I even have made it a goal for myself so that if I clean, I can get spark points for it emoticon )

Oh well, I could ramble forever. Thanks for posting.

So today is my last day of working 72 hours in a seven day period. I only skipped one day of exercise, but that's because my dear hound was up all night with the big D. I will say, after an entire week of trying to stay on track, it is EXTREMELY difficult for me to feel like I have enough energy to work out after working a 12 hour shift. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's because I had to work so many hours with only one day off, or maybe I'm just a whiner. emoticon I do enjoy coming onto SP and reading everyone's posts. Nervous Nelly me, always afraid to post anything, so I thought I'd jump in.

Well it looks like we have gotten a couple new members. That is just greyt. To all our new teammates, I hope everyone is making you feel welcome.

It is not too late to join our January team goals. Also make sure you post frequently to the team and let us know how you are doing. If there is anything in particular you want to say, please feel free to start a new thread.

If anyone is watching the Biggest Loser, please stop by the general discussion thread each week so we can chat.

Remember, we all need support, if you see that someone has posted a blog, you might want to stop by and leave them a comment!

Not sure how the weather is treating everyone? It is really cold here with temperatures well into the negatives in the evenings. We have about 6 inches of snow on the ground with another couple inches suppose to be coming our way overnight..... emoticon

Your cats are going to go crazy......

I admire you for your work in your tri training. I think the mini tri sounds great. One of my best friends did an all female mini tri last year and now she is hooked. She is trying to get me to do one this summer but I am thinking "no." Who knows, I will think more about it after my marathon in April.

I am glad you are feeling better and more confident. That means all of your hard work is paying off. Congrats and keep it up.

I had my third tri class last night. It was mostly cardio, 30 minutes on the treadmill (I walked), 30+ minutes on the bikes, and then 4 ab/core exercises.

I have to admit, I feel great after working out. And even though I haven't seen a difference yet, I feel much more confident.

I might have even found a mini-mini tri at the end of May to try. It is a 300 yard swim, 9 mile bike, and 2 mile run. I think that seems like something I can realistically do in almost 6 months if I keep training.

Tonight is a night off then Thursday it is back to the Y. Since we didn't do any upper body last night I'm going to work on that and also improving my running. Well, lets be honest, learning to run LOL

In greyhound news, I'm the half way point for a GUR this weekend. One of my friends in MN is going to foster this dog and my house is the drop/overnight point. It will be nice to have a dog in house again. Although I'm sure the cats will disagree with me on that. LOL

Just the thought of SItka in agility makes me laugh....Good for you and I think it is wonderful to give our greyts something to do besides sleep all day emoticon

Don't feel bad guys about the no running thing. I enjoy racing but I do not enjoy running. This might not make any sense to you but I enjoy the competitive nature of running in a race but running on a daily basis is boring and I always feel like I am going to die. However, when I am done, I almost always can admit that I really did not push myself hard enough....oh well!

I started running because I realized I could burn more calories in the same amount of time as I was walking. Then the racing bug hit and now I just accept that in order to run races I must put in the daily time.

Way to go!! I fall off the wagon all the time and just dust myself off and get right back on ... no big deal. You'll get back on track and it sounds like you already are.

I'm not a runner either ... yuck! Sorry, everyone who likes it. Just not for me.

I was thinking about getting Wilma involved in agility or some other activity. I have to find somewhere to take her though. The only other problem is the practicing ... our yard is not fenced, so I can't just let her be loose at home.

Anyway, have a great weekend!!

I admire all of you runners...that's something I've never enjoyed doing at all and is not in my future. Way to go!

I weigh and measure myself on Wednesdays and this week I didn't lose any weight, but I did lose 1/2 inch off my body! WOO HOO! I'm really back to paying attention to what I'm doing here...like I did before. I kind of slipped last year...got to 141 in 2007 and then seemed to relax a bit last year. I've changed my exercises a bit and my routine, but I still do it first thing in the morning. It's easier for me just to get it out of the way.

Last night, Wyatt and I started agility classes. I think he will do good once he gets going. He was a little timid of the jump at first...maybe it reminded him of a starting gate; I'm not sure. But, he loved the table. I have homework to do with him this week...it will be fun. Oh...and he also stepped on his leash causing him to get "stuck" and that made him a little edgy, too...poor baby.

Well..I have to get to work...or I'll be on this all day! Happy Friday, everyone!

No race yet. There was one at the Y that timed perfectly with the classes in the fall. I don't think any start until the spring/summer. I'm moving at the end of June so that sort of complicates trying to find something. I'm hoping to find something late spring if I can.

Although my friend who is in the class mentioned getting a group of people together to go do the flying pig run in Cincinnati. It is at the beginning of May and they offer everything from a 5k to a full marathon. Since running is a weak spot I'm thinking about making the 5K a goal to work on that area.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope everyone had nice holidays.

Now that the holidays are over it is time to for me start focusing on me again. Of course I started the new year with a cold so that didn't help.

However I had my first triathlon class last night and boy am I sore today. It was 45 minutes of basic strength training, 30 minutes on the bikes, then 15 on the treadmill. I wrote down how much I did of everything this morning so I can compare as the class goes on. I feel ok with the swimming and biking (although we haven't actually done the swimming yet, that is Saturday), my weak spots are will be the running (I just walked last night) and the strength training.

But the trainer teaching the class is great. He is very encouraging and really pushes you to do that little bit more than you thought you could.

Happy New Year everyone!

I personally must say that although I love this time of year, the holidays were hard on the diet. I gave myself permission to take the holidays off from dieting (I ramped up the exercise to try and compensate). I don't really think I ate any worse this year than I have in years past. However that being said, my eating habits have improved so much over the last 10 months that I don't think my stomach can handle all that junk food anymore. I have felt pretty awful the last couple days and I think my overindulgence is the reason. I got back to logging my food today and it actually feels good to be back in control! Who knew I would ever feel this way about food.

I hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year. If anyone is interested, they are doing a New You bootcamp that starts on Sunday. I joined just for the added challenge. Anyone else planning on joining?

Hey everyone,

We have several new members. If you get a chance, please stop by and welcome them to the team.

It is Christmas Eve and I hope everyone has a great Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate. If you are traveling, please be safe. The weather in certain areas sound bad and icy.

Best of luck Heather. I know you must be nervous venturing into this unknown territory however if someone had told you back when you started this journey that you would be where you are now, you probably would not have believed it. So obviously you CAN do whatever you put your mind to. I have no doubt that you will get to your ultimate goal.

Hope everyone is having a greyt week!

Hey Guys!! Well, I'm 1 pound away from my secondary goal and flew past my original goal. Now I'm heading for my Ultimate Goal. I'm headed into territory that I have never been to before. I have never in my adult life weighed less than 150 pounds. I'm definitely motivated and have increased my exercise. I really want to accomplish this, so I wanted to put it into writing for accountability. Thanks Greythounds!!

Congratulations! I can't even image how excited you must be. I wish you a healthy pregnancy and delivery and look forward to seeing you back on the boards in about 10 Months (figure you will need a month or two to do some adjusting!)

Also to our other members, we have had a couple new members join our group (I can still remember when I joined, there were only 7 of us...boy are we growing!).
Please make sure to stop by their page and give them a welcome!

Hey folks, I just wanted to stop in and let you all know that I've switched over to BabyFit for a while. I'm 6 weeks pregnant with our first baby, and we're really excited! I can't possibly keep up with both SP and BabyFit at the same time, so I'm just going to focus on BabyFit for now. Thanks for all the suppot so far & I hope to see you all again when I come back to SP. Love your doggies and other pets! :)
