Not as bad as I had expected it to be. We'll see how it goes on D2. See if it was just beginners luck.

I did w1d1 today and it was great. I am going to increase my speed a little bit Wednesday since I am using a treadmill and think I can push a little bit harder than I did today. I am so excited to do this program. Good luck everyone!!!

If you are having problems with the intervals try slowing down or using a treadmill since treadmills are easier than running outside (easier on the body and there are no unexpected inclines/uneven ground).

Sometimes I get the feeling I'll be stuck on week 1 forever. I just can't do all the intervals yet. I'm getting better, but the progress is so slow. I'm sticking with it because it's a great workout, and I know that SOMEDAY I'll be ready for week two.

Hi Glamit, I too am starting today. I have previously made it through week 3 then I got a summer cold, then family came in from out of state, and a barrage of other excuses. I hope to push through the whole program this time and actually run a 5k! Best of luck to you!

OK I'm doing W1D1 again~ I want to get on a schedule, Mon, Wed & Frid. I made it to week 7 last year and quit. Would like to complete it this time. Now if my nose would unplug I would love to go do my day 1 :) Anybody else starting today?

My sister-in-law is a cross country coach, she recommends walking on your heels daily to help with shin splints. It's worked pretty well for me. Walk with your heels on the floor and your toes pointed up, then pointed out and up and the pointed in and up. All while balancing on your heels step after step. Does that make sense? The balls of your feet shouldn't touch the floor, only your heels. I do them before and after ever workout.

The other is the stretch with your heel on the floor and your toes up against the wall. Do so as you probably are of leaning forward into the wall to stretch the calf, but then also take a small step back with your other foot, then lean your knee towards the wall before leaning your body forward. You'll feel this in your shin as well as the calf by bring your knee forward first.

Hope these are helpful. SIL tells me that keeping up your routine is more helpful than skipping a few days because of shinsplints....but I don't know if I agree with that one! It's no fun running when they hurt.

I'm struggling with the running intervals. I can walk 30 min no problem, but when I add running intervals the pain begins- shin splints and cramping in my calves. I did tried intervals 2x last week and then rested the remainder of the week. Just went out for another workout- on week 1 again. After 2-45 min running intervals, my shins and calves were screaming. I walked home and I'm icing now.

I'm guessing that I'm just THAT out of shape. I may be on week 1 for a while, but I will progress onward.

Feel free to offer any insights. I am stretching the calves regularly and have new running shoes fit for my step and stride.

I've tried the C25K running outside before and this time around I'm running on treadmill instead. I didn't stick to it when I was running outside, but am finding with the treadmill I am much more consistant with my speeds for walk/run, and find that makes it easier for me. When I get closer to 9 weeks I think I'll start doing my runs outside to get ready for an actual 5k race, but for now the treadmill is it!

My W2D1 was the easiest run ever! If you're finding week 1 to be difficult, as I was, just keep it up. You may find it best to repeat week one for a second week.... or you may shock yourself as I did on Thursday, when I just went for it and found out I could do W2D1 easier than the week before!

MERIPT why don't you try W2D1 for the first interval and see how you feel. If you're really struggling you can go back to W1.

Ok I just completed week 1, and I am wondering if I should go back and do it again. It was really weird, the first run I did was awesome and felt great, these last two runs I have had to REALLY push myself and I don't know why. Its been kind of frustrating honestly. Any thouhts as to whether I should repeat if I feel like its getting challenging or should I just move on?

I just completed W1D2! I love it! I think I got the breathing down today and was faster than the first day. I want to work on the endurance part though more than speed so will do better Monday when I go for D3! I have the podcast but what does he mean when he says after one of the last runs that you shouldn't be out of breath?? I definitely am breathing hard. Is that right?

I finished week one yesterday! I almost didn't get a jog in, but at 9:30 last night I was unwilling to loose my 55 day exercise streak and went out to the treadmill! I am averaging 1.65 miles in the 25 minutes. Looking forward to week 2. Right now I am walking between 3.5-4.0 and jogging between 4.5-5.0.

I just finished W1D4. I'm going to repeat week one until I can run each run segment. I got close today. I ran all but two of the run segments. My legs were on fire. Had to take two breaks to stretch. I was hoping to be a little further into the program before my 5K this Saturday. That's okay. My goal is to finish it under 60 minutes.

Still stuck on week one. STILL can't complete all the intervals. I think I definitely did better today, though, I just can't quite keep up with the program and jog when I'm supposed to every time. But I'm going to keep trying! I can definitely tell the difference between my fitness now and when I started, so that will keep me motivated.

W1D2 completed! I ran it outside again, but this time on pavement. A little rougher on my shins, but nothing too bad. I stretched like mad and then had a relaxing hot bath before bed, so today I'm not very sore. Looking forward to completing Week 1 this weekend!

After W1D2 I felt really good but woke up with a sore lower back. The discomfort faded later in the day. So I guess it was nothing serious. Thankfully. I really want to do this.

Has anyone else repeated week 1? I started week one on Monday August 16, and I think it went pretty well ;) I don't think I'm ready to move on to week 2 yet though, as I can only jog the first 3 intervals, and have been power walking the others. I'm hoping that by the end of this week I'll be able to move on.

Come check out my blog!

I have done days 1 & 2 of Week 1. Surprisingly day 1 was easier than day 2. Hmmmm . . . maybe because I did day 1 on a treadmill and day 2 outside? Well, anyway, feeling good and glad I'm not really starting from the couch. Not much more than the couch, but not going from zero exercise in a long time to this. I can see where it could definitely be a lot harder in that case!!! Proud!

LINDSAY, you asked about how fast everyone is running earlier in the thread. And let me tell you, I for one am slooooooow. lol I'm using this program as a jumping off point. Once I get through it and start running on my own, I'll probably start thinking about speed and distance and all that good stuff. For now it's enough for me to just be able to get through it.

I just finished W1D3. I'm going to go through week one, one more time until I can run all the segments. Today was definitely easier though. Keep going!!!! When I first started, I thought my legs were going to explode. They still hurt, and I need to stop and stretch and walk a few run segments, but I feel soo much better afterwards. I don't know if it is because my body feels the benefits of all the exercise, or if it is the fact that I haven't given up, but I am soo happy with myself. I feel like I accomplish something every day I walk into the gym. I'm liking this new me.

Did Day 1 yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Maybe I was just have a good day. It probably helped that my husband was doing it on the treadmill right beside me. Looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow!

Ahh...it feels so good to start the C25K again!
I just did my W1D1 this morning.

I did it for 60 mins. instead of 30 still with the intervals. I went longer because I was going for distance and wanted to actually hit 5k.

Keep up all the hard work everyone!

Did a repeat of w1d1 today. Couldn't quite do all the intervals, so I stuck with walking for the last few minutes.

Just complete Week 1 Day 1...and it wasn't too bad :)

I sweat - a lot and felt pretty winded but I stayed with it.
Looking forward to day 2, I will definitely need to get some new earbuds though - hopefully ones that stay put!

Hey there! I just finished week 1 day 3! and I feel great! I was sweating like crazy but it wasn't nearly as hard as day 1! I can't wait to start week 2 on Monday

I'm not telling you it's going to be easy. I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.

Hey guys and gals (although it looks like it's mostly gals...)! Completed W1D1 this morning and surprised myself by being able to do all of the intervals. The last 2 were pretty rough. And reeeeeally slow (rather than the just plain old slow the other interval were lol). I'm a little sore right now, but I think I'll be okay by tomorrow. Looking forward to W1D2 on Monday!

Oof.

Ok, the good news is, I got out and did day 1 with NO knee pain from my repaired knee. Yippee! (I could kiss my surgeon. Really. He did an amazing job.) emoticon

The bad news is, I just didn't have the last 2 intervals in me. My calves hurt SO bad I just couldn't do it. So, 6 intervals on day 1. Meh.

I finished w1d3 last night. It wasn't that bad or hard, but it was not a piece of cake either. I will start w2d1 on Sunday. I am looking forward to it.

I did two 90 second jogging intervals today to prove to myself I could do it, but I'm still going to repeat week one next week because my endurance isn't good. I can do a couple of jogging intervals but not all of them yet.

I completed Week 1 today! I found my stride today, unlike Wednesday, and even did a few of the runs a little faster than I have been. Today's stride and pace felt the best they have all week (to be expected as body adjusts), but I think I'm going to try Week 1 again next week. Maybe it's just the cautious part of me, but I'm not training for an event in particular so I have no problem repeating each week as I move on.

Well, I did it. I finished w1d3 today and it felt great. I made it through the podcast and finished day 3. I feel that I should reward myself my accomplishing what I had set out to do.
