I've been MIA for the past week or so. I had such a hard time getting back into the swing of things after my vacation, BUT...... I got out there early this morning and did W5D1. It felt great!!! I remembered why I'm doing this and started to feel all that positive energy again. I'm going to repeat W5D1 again on Tues, then try D2 on Thurs and see how it goes. It feels so good to be back on track. I caught up on your posts and it looks like you're all doing so well. I know I couldn't do this without all the support and encouragement on this board!!!

Wow!! Sounds like everyone had a really amazing week. I *think* everyone is moving on to a new week next week, right? Let's keep up the great work and make it happen!!

I also finished W7 this morning. As I ran, I realized that I have really increased my lung capacity. I'm normally a pretty slow, deep breather anyway, but for a long time I've had periods where I've felt like I couldn't get a full breath. I realized this morning that I haven't felt that way since I started running. I'm really feeling so much healthier!

I can't believe that I only have 6 runs left! After that, I will probably continue to run every other day and vary my runs from 20-35 minutes at a time. I'm not planning on running my first 5K until June or July and I really want to be able to run a 10 minute mile for my first one.

Anyone else thinking about their next steps?

Woo hoo everyone!!
Cat - believe in yourself and how far you've come... you are so ready for W5!!
Icanfly - bring on W7!!!
Beanpod - you go girl on W6!
Freck and Woodmom - awesome job on W7... are you ready for W8 :-)
Anyone else still with us???

I finished week 7 after work today. It felt so good. I've really felt a transformation in my cardio and endurance in my legs over the past few weeks. What a feeling!
On Sunday morning I am doing a 15k cycle for a fundraiser for our local children's hospital. We are a team of 5 and as I was out on a training run with 2 of the other girls this past week I could feel my strength and cardio kicking in! They both noticed it too as I was really motoring along! It really made me realize how far I've come with my fitness. Thank you C25K program and thanks girls for helping to keep me motivated by this thread!! You guys are awesome!

Way to go runners! You're doing great!

I am finished with week 7! My 25 minute run took me a little farther today, so I must be going a bit faster. It was a hot day for running; 72 degrees felt like a steamy 90! Even though the 25 minute run feels hard at the end, I am moving on to week 8 on Sunday or Monday. My 5K is on May 15--yikes!

Great runs all! I can't wait to get there. Hoping I will! Did W4D2 on Tues, and will be doing D3 today..I gotta admit I can sure feel that darn leg again though. I REALLY feel like my cardio strength is there. The biking , I think , has kept that strengthening. The 5 min running session seems to end in no time. Will be assessing whether I can move to week 5 on the weekend.Fingers crossed.
Enjoy your weekends all

I finished W7D2 this morning. Today went really well for me. I felt good through the whole run and added in some sprints again. Even though I felt like my pace was slower, I finished in the same time, so maybe I'm getting stronger. I also worked really hard to think about things other than my running. It was garbage day here, so I actually started glancing at peoples recycling bins to see what they had tossed. Interesting social study.

I'm enjoying adding in the sprints at the end of my run, but I always feel like I'm going to fall on my face. Something to work on.

Let's finish the week strong! Have great runs today! (Cat-you should totally go on to W5, you'll love it!)

Sounds like we had some great runs today!

I designate Wednesday's as my rest day, so I will do W4D4 tomorrow bright and early...then it's decision time on whether or not to go on to week 5.

Congratulations to all of the great runners !!!

Great job ICANFLY!

I just got done with my W7D2 run. I went to a park and ran on the trail. It's a little harder than running on the road, but more peaceful and scenic. Today still seemed hard toward the end, but I knew I had done it twice before, so I pushed on.

I hope everyone has great runs this week!

I ran W6D2 today and I'm really excited about D3. It seems as though it's easier to run a long time frame (20 mins. or so) compared to 2 shorter times with a walk in between. It just seems so hard to get going again after that walk break. At least I hope that is the case since next week is all long runs!!!

I did it! W7D1, done. I was so close to taking a walk break about halfway through, but I knew if I stopped running, I would struggle to start again. I pushed through and did it. I included 2 very short sprints toward the end and I ran about 2.7 miles in my 25 minutes. It feels so good to know how far we've come.

Keep up the great work!

YAY Beanpod! So glad you did D1....and hope that there is minimal pain!

I won't start week 5 until next week. I did try out my homemade podcast, and while the music was great, I could barely hear the audibles to know when to run and walk, so I will have to tweak it a bit before I start week 5!

Congratulations to all of the fabulous runners! We are SO awesome!

I went ahead and did W6D1 and, at least for the time being, feel a little bit better. Maybe I needed to sweat it out of me! I have slowed down my pace while running on the treadmill. I don't think I would have been able to run as long if I kept up the 5.7 pace. I went down to 5.4 and that was fine.

Hello runners!

I have completed W4D3 and, while it wasn't necessarily EASIER than the other two days, I changed the podcast back to Ullrey's podcast, so I didn't have to listen to the awful music from the other one, and made it through.

I determined that the pain in my arches was caused from overuse...I decided that, instead of doing the treadmill on my off running days, that I would do my Leslie Sansone DVD's instead...she still kicks my rear, works other muscles than the ones worked on the treadmill, and gives my tootsies a little break from the treadmill. It seemed to have helped after the last run, so I am hoping it will be the 'cure'.

Congratulations Woodmom on completing W7D1....that is absolutely amazing!

Icanfly...I kind of concur with Woodmom...I'm not sure it's a good idea to run while sick, but you can certainly try...just listen to your body...if you need to stop, then stop...you just don't want to run yourself down even more and delay your recuperation!

Good luck to everyone else...can't wait to hear all about it!

This group is doing great! Congrats to all; you are making progress!

I just got done with W7D1. It seemed harder than last week. Maybe 2 days off is too long...I also have the problem of wondering "how much longer?" Thankfully, my music is very inspirational and I can get into that.

ICANFLYTOO-I'm not sure if runners should run when sick. Maybe you could try it and if you don't have the energy to do the whole thing, then just walk the rest of the way. Or just walk today.

Wishing Cat and Beanpod and all others who are running today a great run!

Good morning all. My intention is to start W6 today, but I'm not really feeling up to par. I think my youngest may have passed on her sick germs this weekend. I'm not totally out of commission, so I'm still debating on giving D1 an attempt. Do you feel that working through a minor sickness is good, or am I just pushing the germs through my body and dragging myself down more? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

WAY TO GO Dragonfly! W7 is AWESOME...

Good to know about the mind wandering though...I really have to start getting my personal podcasts ready for the upcoming weeks, so I have my good music to listen to. I have week 5 all set up, but need to get on the other weeks as well.

Also, thanks for the info on the foot spas. I think I am going to start saving up for one...just as a reward to myself...I can imagine the bubbling and massage, and I think I found one that actually has a heater in it and keeps the water warm! Just some peppermint soaking stuff in it and I am good to go!

Getting myself pumped up for W4D3 tomorrow...not thrilled that I have to listen to the podcast music again, but I can do it for a half hour...will probably do a D4 on W4 as well (since I can average about 2 sessions per week).

I have heard about the Nike + application, but have never used it. I think I will have to check it out!

Hope everyone has had a great weekend! Here's to a wonderful running week next week!

Welcome back Debbie and Beanpod! Happy you are back with us! Cat - I've never used one of those foot spas but I know some of the nurses I work with use them after their 12 hr shifts and love them.
I started W7 this morning and it did feel a bit long (I was having trouble getting my mind to wander from "just how much further??" to something more distracting) but the body co-operated! I ended up doing just over 4km in the 25 mins so I was happy with that. I still can't believe that I ran for 4km, though!!!!!
Is any one else using the Nike + with their itouch/iphone? Just another thing to motivate me along, I find. It is pretty cool to see the graphs it displays after your runs as well.

Welcome back Beanpod! Cat- I've never used one, but if you have access to one, it can't hurt to try. Not sure I'd spend the money on it when the water bottles seem to work so well for you though.

Beanpod...that's GREAT news that you were able to run today! You'll be back up to 'speed' in no time at all! LOL

I'll be right there to run with you...never fear...I am not leaving W4 anytime soon!

I do have a question for everyone...I tried to ask this on another thread, and didn't receive any response, so I thought I would ask my running buddies here...

Do any of you use a foot spa? Those fun little mini pedicure tubs that bubble and massage, etc?

I have determined that the placement of the arch pain does not qualify it as the necessity for an arch support, and it appears that it is more of a 'strengthening' issue rather than an equipment issue...my feet are still trying to strengthen up and making me unhappy along the way...LOL

I thought it might be worth it to try out one of those portable spas. I know that when I soaked my toosies in the tub, they felt better, but thought this might be more practical, because I can do it anywhere....Just thought I would see if anyone here had any input

You are all doing SO great...I am proud of each and every one of you, and feel, like Beanpod, that I am part of an AMAZING group!

Hope you are all enjoying your Saturday!

Hey team, I was so motivated to start back into the program that I did W3D1 today..Everything seemed ( and continues to seem) okay..The hamstring was a letting me know it was there, but it was a tightness vs pain. I did some stretches that the therapist showed me, for cooling down and took an aleve...so far so good.
Tomorrow will tell for sure..Cat, hoping I will be able to join you next week.
Have a great weekend everyone, and happy running, whatever week you are on!!
Thanks everyone, for keeping me in your thoughts and posts, I really feel like part of the team..
see you soon

I'm back!!!!! Vacation was awesome, and very much needed :) I did not manage to run or stick to my meal plan, but I'm back and ready to get back on track!!! I completed W4D4 today, after not running for 10 days. My calves were a little tight, but it went well. I'm planning to move on to week 5 on Tuesday. It looks like you're all doing really well. Keep up the great work everyone!!!

Hope all are well and continuing to progress, Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am planning to attempt a re-start on Monday this week..Fingers crossed!

Week 6 is done, Done, DONE!!!!! Woot woot! The 25 minutes was tough but I made it through. My legs feel a bit spongey now, though! Regardless, it's a great feeling of accomplishment for the start of the weekend.

W5D3 done! I was excited/nervous about the 20 minute run, but I did it! And I can't wait to do it again!!! That's the best part. I'm excited about running, something I never thought I'd be. Have a great weekend everyone!

Awesome Karen! I also did W6D3 today. In my 25 minutes of running, I covered about 2.6 miles with some hills. This puts me at just a hair over a 10 min mile, which is my goal for my first 5K. It felt pretty good and I was lucky to be able to run in the road for the majority of it. I did pop 2 advil when I got home just as a precaution since my knees have been achy.

At this point I am 2/3 done with the program (18 runs done, 9 to go). Next week all 3 days are a repeat of today. I'm going to try adding in some sprints at the end of my runs on the advise of a runner friend.

Keep up the great work everyone!!

That is awesome Karen. You can smile the rest of the day thinking about your accomplishment. I can't wait until lunchtime to get out there and do my 20 minute run!

Great job, Cat! Usually just getting started is the hardest part.

Today was W6D3, the 25 minute run. I woke up at 4:30 this morning all excited and a bit nervous about it and couldn't get back to sleep. By 6:00, I was out there running. I ran the same course I ran for the 20 minute run, out to a favorite coffee shop and back. For the 20 minute run, I didn't quite make it all the way there, but today I did! The familiarity of the route helped give me confidence in knowing how much farther I had to go. I found that I was actually enjoying it and smiling while I ran today.

I hope everyone's runs are great today!

Great job to everyone here!

I just finished W4D2 today. I wasn't going to do it...as I am a little lacking in the motivation department today, but I did do it...

Now it's off to the frozen water bottle...LOL

Keep up your awesome work everyone!

Great tip Karen! I have noticed that my knee is much more achy after a run on sidewalks. I usually try to run in the road.

ICANFLY: You are right that you will need to run at a very slow pace when you do your 20 minute run. But I know you can do it!

Also, since you haven't been running outside a lot, try to stay off the sidewalks when you run (if you can.) The concrete is harder than the road or grass. I ran entirely on sidewalks for my 20 minute run, and I had a lot of muscle soreness afterward.

I know you will do well!

I just caught up on our thread. Everyone's doing so great! Pushing through the pain and making it happen.
I haven't ran since W1D4, my muscle sprain is being very persistent, but improving.
I've been remiss on my core work this week, only a little on Monday... and nothing since.
I'm inspired by all of you, so I'll get back to my core work so that I am able to change my path... I want health, fitness, and vitality and C25K brings me SO much closer! Just look at all of you!!

Completed W5D2 yesterday. Looking forward to D3 tomorrow. I was anxious about running 20 minutes straight, but after reading your posts, I'm excited! Once I get through tomorrow I know I'll be able to complete this program. I have found that I do better outside. It's easier for me to control my speed while running so I'm not out of breath or too tired. When I run on the treadmill, I tend to run faster and feel as though I can't run as long. I try to slow down, but my legs just go - I guess that will be a good thing once my endurance increases.

I realized this morning that those of us going into W6D3 are done with interval runs. Our last 10 (!) runs are all straight runs. Thoughts?

I'm really excited. I'm SO starting to feel like I can call myself a runner now.

Great Job everyone!

LaVon-no worries about the 20 minute run, you'll do awesome!!

Karen-Awesome, I know how you feel.

Cat-Keep up the great work! I hope you find something to help your sore feet.

ICanFly-So glad that W5 started off so positive for you. The rest of the week will hopefully go just as smoothly.

Beanpod-Miss you!

DragonFly-Hope W6D2 went great for you!

I did W6D2 this morning as well. It went pretty good. I've found that when I run alone I tend to focus on the not so good things (like how tired I am) instead of just enjoying my run and being outside. I might switch things up for my 25 minute run this week (different time and place) and see if it makes a difference. I've officially lost my running partner for awhile, which stinks, but I'll make the best of it.

Keep up the great work everyone!

emoticon Icanfly and LaVon!! You're doing great!

W6D2 done! The first 10 minute interval seemed easy and my breathing was great. By the end of the second interval, having just come up an incline, my breathing heavier, but still I still had energy to go!

Today was my first run in the rain. It wasn't raining when I got up at 5:45, but by the time I had dressed and warmed up, it was pouring. After a few minutes it died down and I figured I was already up, so, "Let's do it!" It wasn't so bad. The rain kept me cool towards the end.

Enjoy your runs today!

Week 5 Day 2 DONE
Wow, that was hard, but I did it! I really think it has become a mental game for me know. I just have to find a way to stay distracted during my runs and I can do it. I am still a little worried about Saturday for my first 5K, I have not run any where but the treadmill so far and am worried about discomfort. I was hoping for new shoes by Saturday, but that does not seem to be working out. Still, I push forward. Tomorrow is the 20 min run and I know I can do it. It is just so hard to make myself do something so challenging. Thanks for all the updates, they really do help me keep going.

Way to go Icanfly...

I am wondering if the whole 'insert' thing might be good. I have good, high quality running shoes, fitted at a running store a few months ago, but maybe I need a little bit 'extra'. I will have to look into that.

Thank you for the idea!

Everyone is doing such a great job and it does help to read the accomplishments of those a week ahead of me. I did W5D1 yesterday. It went better than anticipated.

Cat - I too was experiencing arch pain on the bottom and top of my foot. I did get a new pair of sneakers and I can tell the difference in the arch. Though I'm finding that the balls of my feet are sore, maybe I need some type of insert for that area. Wouldn't expect so with a new pair of sneakers...
