I tried to beat the rain today, but it was already drizzling when I headed out. It only rained lightly, so it wasn't too bad. It was a good run, down across a bridge and back. I ran a lot slower today than on Sunday. I realize that running with my husband caused me to run faster than usual, and I have been sore ever since!

Today I passed by a vase of fresh flowers placed at the site where a schoolteacher was killed by a drunk driver while running. The 5K I am running on Saturday is in her honor.

One more run to go before my big day. You all keep it up and you'll be running a 5K soon, too!

Way to go everyone..
Whether its week 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9..we're getting there!
Started at D1 Week 6 today..Did okay..It was not as easy as my mistake of doing D3 WK6 on Friday..Not sure why, but from reading other posts, I don't think its that unusual to have fluctuating energy on different days. Having to ice the hamstring, so will see on Wed if I move to day 2..
Have a good week all...Whoever has the sun and warm can they PLEASE send some this way? thanks :-)

Completed W7D3 today. Looking at the weather for the week, I will most likely start W8 tomorrow. Not sure I'll get all 3 days done this week, may need to roll into next week again. Hope all of the moms had a great Mother's Day!

W5D2 take 2 this AM. It went really well. The weather was very chilly and windy. I run along the waterfront, so the wind was a bit of a challenge today, but it felt great. WTG Woodmom. It must feel so great to be starting week 9!!! I hopw you all have a great week!!!

Happy Mother's Day!

I just got back from my W9D1 run. I ran on a trail at a local park with my husband. He's been a runner all his life and he was tickled that we were actually running together. I have always thought he was crazy for wanting to run all the time, but now I am a running fool, too! He ran slower than usual to accommodate me, but he was a great encouragement. He was quite impressed with how I am doing. He said I kept a very steady pace, even going uphill and downhill. My quads were burning after the uphills, but I quickly recovered and am thrilled to be able to do the 30 minutes!

Keep up those great runs this week! You can do it!

I'm from Southeastern MA, half way between Boston and Cape Cod. Thunderstorms and heavy rain all day today, so postponed my run until tomorrow. W5D2, take 2. It went well Thursday, but I don't feel like I'm quite ready for 20 minutes!!!

I hope you all have a great weekend. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in the crowd!

Great job Beanpod, ICanFly, Dragonfly and Frecks!

Frecks: you are the speed queen! I am only running at 4.8 mph, and at this rate, it will take me 38 minutes to complete my 5K. I hope I'll be able to go the extra 8 minutes. One week to go!

I'm from Ottawa, Ontario... and sad about the forecast of rain, rain, rain (plus maybe even a few snow flurries) all weekend.

Funny story..Was starting Week 6, but because I dont like the music, I pull the ear plug out once she says "start your run"..Thought I had spotted the time I started running, so put plug back in to start my walk, but must have missed it..So, the only interval I could follow was that day 3 was a 25 min. run, so thought"what the heck i'll try"..and I DID IT! Wow..that was a long time..Will see if I pay for it tomorrow,,, will prolly go back to day 2 on Sunday and redo day 3 on Tues :-)..but geez...I ran for 25 min... WOOT!!

Just about to start week 6 but was "Sparking" first..Thought I would pop in to check on everyone..
CAt...What a great prescription idea for planting those trees!! That would help ANY job go faster..or at least distract us enough we wouldn't notice the aches and pains emoticon
Wishing you lots of luck and so glad to hear you will keep checking in...
We certainly have some geography covered don't we? I am in southwestern Ontario ( Canada), just about an hour east of Detroit Michigan..In fact, the bridge to the U.S is 5 minutes from my house..Awesome shopping "stateside" as we locals call it
Nice to learn where everyone is from for sure

Luck to all. Wow some are SO close to the big goal..Outstanding!!!
Have a good weekend!

I finished up Week 8 bright and early this morning. I never used to be a morning person, but lately I am waking up before my alarm goes off! Just excited to run, I guess.

Keep running, everyone!

P.S. I'm in Virginia.

Best of luck Cat! Thinking about your Minnesota trees made me wonder where everyone else was from. I personally have not taken the time to setup my own page and possibly everyones information is on their page, I don't know. I'm from New Jersey. I recall seeing one or two mention they were from Canada, where is everyone else from?

And Julie -- way to go girl! So impressed!!!

Cat-I'll miss hearing about your runs and I'm looking forward to seeing you get back to it. I love your prescription request! Can I order that up for the summer? I'm sure I can find something for them to do (fans and grapes come to mind!)

I finished week 8 today. It went awesome!! I took 2 advil before my run because my knees have been achy, just as a precaution. I started off on the slower side and I felt like I was behind my normal pace at the halfway mark so I tried to pick it up just a little bit for the last half of my run.

I still felt like I was behind with 5 minutes left, so I stepped it up again. In the end, I made it 3 miles in 28 minutes, which is equal to an average of 6.5 mph!!! I also added in a quick sprint during my cool down (18 seconds for 100m).

One thing I have really noticed is that is takes me a much shorter time to recover from my runs. Can't wait to tackle week 9 next week!!

Good morning runners!

First off, thank you to everyone for your thoughtful comments here and for reaching out to me privately! You are all wonderful and I appreciate all of you!

Absolutely I plan on sticking around here...there's something very special about the 3/15-ians, and I love being a part of this group.

Talked with the doc about the arches. She gave me some great advice with ibuprofen, ice, stretching, and then indicated that if those didn't work, she had a great sports medicine guy she would refer me to. I told her about the tree planting expedition (and offered her a job...which she declined graciously) and she said that yes, with that going on, I was smart to put the running on temporary hold. I asked for a prescription for 5 hunky guys that don't mind going shirtless in the Minnesota May to plant trees....she looked at me and laughed. I guess that was a 'no'.

Anyhoo...I am with everyone of you in spirit, (and here, of course) and am sending each and every one of you my best wishes for great runs this week.

I hope that, when you all finish your 5K program, you will still post here. I kinda think we have become this really neat tight knit group, and I, for one, just love you all!

Way to go everyone!
Cat... I hope you'll still be hanging out on this thread! You can't leave us (once a March 15 starter, always a March 15 starter!). Feel better and look after yourself too!
Whew, I had a tough go last night when I went out for my run. I felt tired during the run but not to the point of stopping before the 28 minutes were up. But, once I got home I felt like I had a low blood sugar (not a regular problem for me and certainly hadn't had that type of issue associated with runs before). I did the run before supper after a small after work snack (so I wasn't running on empty) which is a typical time for me to run. Not sure what happened but felt better after a swig of o.j. and supper to follow.
On an up note, a fellow runner (doesn't that sound good, guys??) on the trail said "good work" as he passed me. That sure gave me a boost! I'm going to keep in mind how that made me feel and will try to "pay it forward" sometime to another fellow runner on my trail!

Hello to all of my fellow March 15thians!

First off, I want to commend each and every single one of you for doing SUCH an amazing job with this program. I never thought, when I started this thread, that I would be joined by such an amazing group of women, and I am SO grateful for each and every one of you! You have all inspired, motivated, encouraged and supported me, and each other every step of the way!

Secondly...May has been a very slow start for me...due to those unforeseen circumstances. As some of you know, this month is also the 'tree planting' month, where we have 500 trees coming, and I will be spending every minute I can out in the fields planting the trees. As a result, I will have to put the C25K program on a short hiatus for the month of May, because I have to be in tip top shape for the manual labor of planting all of these trees, and running, unfortunately, as much as I like to do it, leaves my body battered and bruised, and in pain, and completely inefficient. I will still be doing Leslie Sansone miles and exercising, I just have to put the C25K on hold until May is over.

I am also heading to the doctor today. We are going to discuss this never ending plateau I am on and I have Spark Reports printed out to show her regarding my caloric intake/exercise information etc. I will also be discussing with her this pain in my right arch (well, it's on the top and side of the foot...not on the bottom) and she may refer me on.

So, that's the low down straight skinny. I will be here rooting for each and every one of you....and I WILL finish this program...THAT I am determined to do, it just will be a little delayed, until the trees are done, and I find out what is wrong with my foot. When I know I am cleared to run safely, then I will feel a lot better!

Thank you to everyone for your encouragement...it's been kind of a sad week for me, but I am still every one of your biggest cheerleader!

Have a GREAT running day!

I decided to go for it and I'm so glad did!!!! W5D2 was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, it wasn't bad at all!!!! Lesson for the day.... Don't believe everything you think!
I've consistently suprized myself with this program and accomplished things I've spent most of my life telling myself I couldn't do. The mental and emotional benefit I'm getting from C25K is equal to if not greater than the physical benefit!!!

I hope you all have a great day. Can't wait to read about all your progress!

@Beanpod... Thanks for the suggestions. It was actually later in the morning than I usually run, so I had a full breakfast instead of my usual snack before running. I had also had coffee, which I don't usually drink until after my run. I too have noticed a difference when I run on a full vs. an empty tank. I'll be up and out at 6:00 AM tomorrow and will only have a light snack before I go. Planning to get to bed early tonight so I'm well rested..... just hoping I sleep well.

Congrats on your 20 minute run today. I'm really thinking about biting the bullet and just trying W5D2 tomorrow. I'll go with my gut in the morning.

Everyone is doing so well. I'm so impressed by all you week 7 and 8 ladies. Awesome job!!!

WTG Everyone!!

Karen-your run today was like mine on Monday...today did not go as smoothly. I did fine and finished, but it didn't feel as smooth as Monday and I was about one block slower. Not sure what the difference was except maybe lack of sleep. I'll need to make sure I stretch good and get to bed early on Thursday. I can't believe how few runs I have left! I'm looking forward to gathering some music into a playlist to continue training until my first 5K in July.

Way to go Deb and Beanpod!

I got my W8D2 run in bright and early. I actually woke up before my alarm went off thinking about my run and was off and running by 6:05. This was my best run ever! I finally felt like I was in a groove and my breathing was easier and my heartrate didn't go as high. I'm not sure if it was because it was cool or if I was more rested or perhaps it was before I was on my coffee high. Anyway, I may just get up early every day from now on, especially as the hotter temperatures come.

Happy running, ya'll!

Way to go Deb..When I read you were tired I wanted share a couple of things I have learned, which may or may not help..Certainly not getting enough sleep is likely one reason. I wonder if you have enough "gas in the tank" before you start? Not sure when you are running..but I have found I HAVE to have something to eat in the late afternoon ( about 3:00) if I am running after work 5-530..Or, I wait an hour after dinner and run later.
It made a huge difference in my stamina for the runs..My cardio was okay, but I would feel weak..We are certainly all different, and this may NOT be an issue for you, but just wanted to run it by you..
I know there are lots of folks here that run in the mornings and have been very successful too, so maybe they have other "secrets" to share..
Best of luck.. you WILL get there!

W5D1 take 2 today. It was a little tougher than the first time around. I was really pushing to finish the last run. I haven't slept well the past few nights, so I'm thinking that's why I tired so easily. Still, the feeling of accomplishment once I finished was awesome!!! So.... I think I'll stick with D1 on Thursday and then decide if I'll move on to D2. Hope you're all doing well. It's a beautiful, sunny spring day here in south eastern MA!!!

It will be a tomorrow day for me too, unfortunately.

The ole' work schedule just got the best of me today, and I wasn't able to get away...but I will be there bright and early for W5D1 tomorrow!

Hope everyone is having a GREAT day!

My decision on whether to run on the treadmill or do the elliptical was made up for me with work. I had to work over my lunch so we'll see what tomorrow brings....

I would consider that, but I'm at work. I run on my lunch break. We have a fitness center so there are showers, etc. but I don't think a rainy day run in the middle of the work day is an option.

emoticon I just got done with W8D1, the 28 minute run. I still can't believe I'm doing this!

Everyone is doing great! I look forward to checking this feed every day to see how you're doing!

ICANFLY- if your headache passes, why don't you give running in the rain a try (as long as it's not pouring or storming, that is.) It's not so bad, and if it's hot outside, it will actually feel refreshing.

Darn rain! Today is to be W7D1 for me. I have a headache and my option today will be to run on the treadmill. I dread the thought of 25 minutes on the treadmill! I'm trying to gear myself up for it, but I keep thinking that maybe I'll just jump on the elliptical for 30 minutes, that sounds so much more appealing. Not sure yet what I'll do...

Woo Hoo!! Week 8, Day 1, DONE! I wasn't sure if I was going to go this morning since the forecast called for thunderstorms but I set my alarm for 5:30 anyway. When I woke up, the weather looked like it would hold off, so I decided to go for it.

I did my warm-up and headed out. The 28 minutes went awesome!! I really felt like I was in a groove this morning and I didn't even consider taking a break until I was more than halfway through-and I never did. I ended up being one block away from running 3 miles in the 28 minutes, so that is what I am shooting for on Wednesday. If I do it, it will mean I am running at 6.5 mph. Ya Hoo!! I also added in a few short (10-30 seconds) sprints again this morning, I love doing them.

Have a great week everyone!!!

Wow Dragonfly...that is AMAZING...I am looking at the week 8 program, and it tires me just reading it...LOL

Congratulations to you, and I want to wish everyone luck in their runs for this week!

This is an AMAZING group. I wish we lived close to each other, and we could all get together on the weekends and do our runs together! That would be SO much fun!

W8D1 is in the books! My husband was away this weekend and my girls were having a sleep over with Grandma and Grandpa... first time sleeping alone in my house since the oldest was born in Aug/07. Of course I slept with a few lights on :-)
Anyway, it was an opportunity to sleep in a little but the eyes popped open at 5:45 - ugh. Rather than waste the moment, I decided I might as well head out for my run. 28 minutes went well. I wasn't sure I should do it because of my cycle fundraiser later in the morning, but decided to go for it. The cycle was at a pretty relaxed pace because of the number of participants so it wasn't a problem. And I don't think I'm any worse for wear at this point - but I'll be happy to curl up and relax this evening!

Cat-I didn't realize there were 2 Julies either. =)

I'm looking forward to Week 8. I even mapped out a new route (3.7 miles) in order to accommodate a longer cool-down and to make sure I have enough room for the 3 mile run. Still not sure what days I'm running this week though, the weather looks a little wonky still. =(

So glad to hear from you Deb. I know exactly what you mean about getting back on track after a vacation...as they say "I feel your pain".

Beanpod and I are both on Week 5 as well...she has already started, and I will be starting tomorrow. Unfortunately, due to my schedule, I can only do 2 sessions a week (Monday and Thursday) so I won't finish week 5 until the week of May 11th, but I will be right there running with you!

Glad to see you back, and look forward to hearing about your successes this week!
