completed W4D2 today. Have been sick all week so I had to really push myself to get through today's run. I found out a secret to relieving sinus pressure--go for a jog! My sinus's cleared up while i was working out...unfortunately, its back now :-(

Congrats to all who completed this challenge!!!
emoticon emoticon

Unfortunately, I let a very crazy week get in the way of completing this challenge and missed two running sessions! Oh well, as long as we made a concerted effort to stick to a running plan, I think we are all winners, don't you?

Please continue to post your thoughts here on this challenge. A new challenge for February will be posted shortly!

My success is measured in miles. Not calories, not pounds, not ounces, not inches, not numbers. It's measured by that feeling in my lungs as I push past what I thought was possible.

I have also succeeded in completing this challenge, running 3x a week every week in January. Woohoo! I also finished C25k today with my last 30 minute run. Yay!

Congrats to everyone else who finished this challenge, as well as anyone who got involved! Even if it wasn't perfect, you took some positive actions this month!

Completed W3D2 today and I'm feeling so great about this. Only one problem today: my heart rate got really high. I wasn't doing anything different and when I tried to slow things down some it was harder for me to run because it was too slow. I wasn't having problems breathing, I wasn't getting light headed and in fact after I got done I felt great!...not sure if I should be concerned about this or not.

Here are my running goals so far:

1) Complete a 5K in under 36 minutes (have one race in Feb)
2) Run in a 10K
3) During off training times keep up with running

That's all I have so far.

I am beginning this program today....I have completed once...ran my first 5K in June 09 and lost 20 lbs....then stopped, enjoyed vacation way too much and now I am at the beginning again. I am hoping to progress through it faster than last time. I am also doing the Jillian Michaels shred challenge. Hope to lose that 20 lbs again by June...and keep it off this time...by having another goal...a 10 K....

Mhpfan I don't think it's ever too late to join a challenge! It's great that you are jumping in now, and it's good to hear that you are feeling better now.

I've managed to get another week of getting my 3 days of running in. Yay! I just have one day left of week 7 and then on to week 8 I go.

Not quite sure if it's too late, and I'm not sure if I already replied to this thread (haha!), but I've been sick most of this month, so running or any other type of exercise has been out of the question until now!! I'll be a few weeks behind on the challenge, but I hope that counts for something! I'll be continuing the C25K program tomorrow since I feel a whooole lot better!

All it takes is a steady mind, a determined attitude, and a strong heart.

I am going to start C25K today. I am really going to do Day 1 today and again on Monday, just because I think it's silly to start on a Friday. I finally managed to bring clothes/sneakers with me to work though so I can get to the gym. Going to make it worth it. :D

I just started C25k today. So I'm on week 1 day 1. I used the mp3 podcast to keep me at the right pace. It wasn't as difficult as I expected but I sure did sweat.

I'm going to be running a 5k with a blogger friend in March. By the time of the 5k I'll only be on week 7 of the program but that's ok. It'll be great to meet a fellow blogger in person.

completed W1:D2 today and feeling great. I was really surprised to find that this week has been easy- i've never been a runner, but I'm hoping this excitement can continue even when it gets more difficult.

Nande- I do c25k on M/W/F plus about 15-30 minutes of another type of cardio. It depends on how I'm feeling. On T/R/S I do weights/abs, and add 30-45 minutes of cardio that switches every day. As long as you are getting in 30-45 minutes 5-6 times a week, you will be doing great! remember to eat enough too...thats VERY important!

Nande, I do C25k and other cardio. For the C25k days, I actually increase my total time to 60 minutes, 5 minutes of warm-up, I do the whole C25k run/walk workout, then I spent the rest of the 60 minutes walking. On non-C25k days, I do other cardio, usually walking, Spark bootcamp videos, Wii aerobics exercises, elliptical, or stationary recumbent bike.

Well I've been off longer than I thought and am soooo unfit! Started at week 2, was hard to start with but I got into it. Am going to try it again today. If it works out fine I'll start the prog again officially on wk 3.

NANDE77 I think if you're up to it you could alternate your current cardio with the c25k prog. It might be a bit much but it would be dependent on you and your fitness. Good luck

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this question but here goes. I am going to incorporate the C25k plan. My question is based on a plan i was given training in the first several weeks entail running/ walking total time of 20 min 3 times a week or so. Currently I am doing 35-45 min of cardio (treadmill/elliptical/step) about 3-4 times a week. Am I suppose to stop doing that, and do the c25k training only for my cardio?? emoticon

I just found this group and found the thread. I started C5K back on Jan. 4th and completed Week 1 on the 8th. I'm doing my workouts a little different, running on treadmills kill my knees and running on the pavement is pure torture because of bursitis in the left knee. So I resorted to using the Gazelle that I own. It really takes the strain off of my knee and with my asthma, I can still breath, but I do get a great work out with it. I start Week 2 tomorrow!

I just joined this team today because I decided yesterday that I want to start the C25K program on Monday. I've tried to do it in the past, but never really had the motivation- so here I am doing it again!
I've got 3 weeks left (9 days) and I'm going to get every single one in!

My running goals for 2010 include completing a 5k and actually finding that happy place in running that I've never been able to find before. I've never been able to run anything in my life, so now's the time!

Well I got my run in 3 times this week! Off to a good start. I just finished W6D2 today and am feeling good.

One goal for this year is to do a 5k event. I had wanted to do it in the past but just never did, and then I stopped running.. so I should really sign up for one I suppose! And then I would also like to work up to doing longer runs, but I don't have any specific plans yet.

I just joined this team, but I started the program yesterday! I haven't been walking for exercise, necessarily, but I have been trying to walk when I need to go anywhere lately. Day 1 wasn't necessarily easy for me, but it was also definitely not too hard! I'm excited to be started with this!

My goal is to get back to the program this month. By August of 09 I had made it to the middle of week 7 but then nursing school got in the way and I haven't been able to run since September really. I'm going to try my best to make it 3 days a week, but I live in Indiana which is *freezing* right now and I only have a treadmill available to me 3 days a week, and unfortunately, those days are all in a row. We'll see what I can do!

My goal for January - March is to complete the C25K program and run, not walk, my first 5K.

I completed the first week last week but I am doing it over with my daughter so we will both be on the same weeks - we will run the 5K in March together.

My goal is to complete C25K this month. I'm on W6D2 now so I should be able to do it.

For everyone complaining about the cold, it's -15 Celsius (5 Fahrenheit) here and I have an outside run planned for tomorrow. I'm trying to do 1 outside run per week and 2 treadmill runs throughout the winter. Wish me luck!

I completed W1D1 on the 1st and will be doing day 2 today. I miss my outside walks/jogs, it's 20 here and not warming up much through the day. We have 5 acres of field and woods where I usually do my walking, it's nice to get outside. Good luck everyone!

Thank you for this thread. I completed C25K on 12/14/09.
I have a blog at http://bumpoffalog.blogspot.com.
I don't really believe in NY resolutions. I make resolves weekly. :) My goal overall this year is to be able to run for distance one day a week. On the other two days I will run 1/2 hour easy run. I've been running since 9/11/09. Once I've been running for six months I will start to work on speed.
Today is going to be difficult. I live in a tropical area and it's was 45 degrees last time I checked. I know that's not cold to many of you. I have asthma though and my lungs start to freak out at at 50 degrees or lower. :(
I have a 5K this weekend. Our 10 y/o will run it with me. Our 5 y/o and 7 y/o will do the 1/4 mile Fun Run. After the race we will celebrate at IHOP.
Rock on, C25Kers!

I'm no longer doing C25K (graduated in 2008 - but stay for assistance to newbies!,) but I need this challenge as I started marathon training yesterday. I'm 4 months out and need to stay consistent! I have 2 runs I have to get done still this week and a 1/2 marathon on Saturday, so if you check in on me and don't see training run reports, feel free to visit me and nudge me in the right direction!!!

Hope all of my Couch to 5Kers are excited to start running into the New Year. 2010 is going to be the year that you run your first 5K! Or if you are a C25K graduate, it's a year to challenge yourself to new running goals (distance, speed, etc.).

Isn't that exciting?!
emoticon

So without further ado, your challenge for JANUARY 2010!

STAY CONSISTENT
emoticon
I'm challenging you to run three times a week EVERY SINGLE week in January. This might seem like an easy goal given that that's basically what the C25K plan is all about, but...

January is one of the most inconsistent months. People start off the year with lofty goals and then by the end of the month, our motivation tends to peter out. It gets colder in most places, and sticking to a running plan can seem extremely difficult.

So even when the days are short and cold, stick with C25K. Challenge yourself to run three times per week EVERY WEEK this month. If you feel like skipping a day or a week, come back to this forum for support. Our C25K Group is blessed with wonderful members who are constantly answering questions and providing support.

BONUS CHALLENGE: Write a blog or reply to this thread with a post outlining your running goals for 2010. If you write a blog, make sure to link it here so everyone can see!

Let's rock 2010!
emoticon
