I downloaded c25k @zenlabsfitness and it seems to be working well for me. I like that I can watch a movie or you tube video while I walk/run and can see notifications and hear the prompts to indicate when to switch from walking to running.

I am using RunDouble, I like it. It plays my music and the prompts are quite clear. It doesn't appear to use much data at all.

Life is so unpredictable - doing my best to take each moment less seriously and making sure each moment counts.

I've purchase the 5K Runner app for iPhone and find that it works well, other than being a little quiet with prompts when I have music on. I'm not sure if a setting got bumped with the latest update.

I've also use Run, Zombies! but it eats up a lot of space in my phone each time I complete a map. I would maybe use it again if I wanted to bring my iPad to the gym. Thank you wifi!

I like C25K FREE by Zen Labs. I listen to my audiobook and the app interrupts every so often to tell me to run or walk.

I use and love the NHS pod cast as well, I really like the fact that the speaker is motivating and you feel like she is cheering you on!

Are there any programs that can be downloaded to an MP3 player? I don't want to put an app on my phone and pay a ton for increased data usage.

Hi. I payed for the app from Active and although it is technically very good, I don't find the 'coach' very motivational at all. It is just 'start running', 'walk' kind of stuff. But you can listen to your own music, it tracks your pace and distance with GPS, and is easy to use. So I wouldn't say it's bad. It's just that I had attempted the C25K with something different in the past and it was incredible. So I switched a few weeks ago back to that one.

The one I absolutely love is the C25K program from the NHS in the UK. I used the podcasts in the past which have music with them. They now have an app as well that looks great with the same voice, but it's only available to those in the UK. That makes sense since it's created by the NHS. But, the podcasts are still there and anyone can download them. Laura is awesome..very inspirational, motivational, and real. There's an intro video from her on the website.

o-5k-plan.aspx

She talks about breathing techniqes, dealing with cramps, how your foot should land, some basic post workout nutrition, etc. There's a lot more to it than the Active app where the voice sounds like a robot in comparison and offers no more than start and stop cues. There are also podcasts for C25K graduates there, a forum, and lots of articles. Oh, and if you are in the UK and use the App, then you don't have to listen to music if you don't like it.

The other thing worth checking out is

www.coolrunning.com/

They were apparently the ones to invent or at least make popular the C25K program. Their app recommendation is the one from Active.

I hope that helps someone.

I'm using C25K FREE by Zen Labs and it's working out great! I have the option of music, it tells me when I need to run or walk so I don't have to look at the phone, tells me when I'm half way... all is good (and free!)

I use the Active app, too. I think it was $0.99 and had really good reviews except for the GPS system, which I don't use anyway. I don't need music, either, but I think that's an option. I'm almost done with week 7 and zero problems with the app so far.

I use the Couch to 5K app by Active and love it! You have to pay for it, but it's worth it! I love that it tracks my runs so I can see my progress and you can add your own music to run to.

I get distracted when I run music that is why I choose not to run with music. I like the C25K program but I found that it doesn't work for me, I found thata just alternating running at an incline and walking and just adding distance to my walk/jog helps me more.

I use the timed C25K track on RunDouble for Android (rundouble.com). Unlike most people, I do NOT like music while I'm running and so this app does not include music, though you can use your own music app and RunDouble will interrupt the music as needed. It has distance and timed C25K options or you can create your own custom plan. It also includes fun runs, 10K and half marathon. And it's free!

Although not a C25K app, I also use RunKeeper (runkeeper.com) to keep track of each run and to share with my running friends so they can watch my progress and give me virtual high fives and encouragement. It's also free.

I'm itching to get back out there, but the ice... oooh, that ice is my nemesis! (I'm looking at getting some spikes for my sneakers.) I want to find out what happens next in Zombies, Run!

I really want to try that Zombie Run! Thanks for the lowdown on it!

My go-to Couch to 5k podcast is Chubby Jones. I like her personality and style of music (more indie tunes). I'm looking for other podcasts too but love that there are now so many apps out there that you can play while listening to your own music :)

I'm compiling a list of all the C25k programs out there, with links and reviews. I know of Podrunner ( www.djsteveboy.com/1day25k.html ) and Zombies, Run! 5k ( play.google.com/store/apps/d
etails?id=
com.sixtostart.zombies5k
for Android, itunes.apple.com/us/app/zomb
ies-run!-5
k-training/id566596422?mt=8
for iOS), both of which I've used and can highly recommend.

The Podrunner one is the first one I tried, and it kept me moving because it's just music, no vocals, with a driving beat. When it's time to run, there's a tone to alert you, and when it's time to walk, there's another tone. The only drawback to this one is that it's the same tone, so keep track of whether you're supposed to be running or walking! It's free, by the way.

Zombies, Run! 5k is a paid app, but to me, it's not very expensive. I paid $2 for it. The idea behind this one is that there's a story that's interspersed with your music: the zombie apocalypse has occurred, and you have to help the group of survivors you find yourself with by becoming a runner. Runners are the ones who leave the fortified encampment of Abel Township to collect supplies, and they've gotta be fast because there are still zombies around! Obviously the story is deeper than that, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone! (Ok, truth is, I haven't gotten far enough in the game to spoil anything.) You can connect it to the zombiesrungame.com website to see your stats and where you are in the game, and there's another app by the same people, Zombies, Run! that has even more story for when you're done with the 5k training. The one negative to this is that to listen to your music between broadcasts on the "headset", you have to create a playlist in WinAmp. I didn't have much of a problem with this, but for anyone who isn't technologically inclined, I recommend asking someone who is, since it's a one-time setup.

What are some other apps or programs that you've used and can recommend?
