I track all my food faithfully in a little notebook I keep on the kitchen counter. Weigh and measure everything. After eating each meal enter it in my SP tracker. Keeps me in line.... emoticon

It's not a short-term diet. It's a long-term lifestyle change.

Love this thread! Great ideas, you guys! Teri, I'm stealing the stability ball idea, too!

When I'm cutting veggies for a meal, I dice extra onions, peppers, carrots etc. and keep them in the fridge. I throw them into chili, eggs, pasta sauces, salads, soups, stir-fries, wraps, or I use them for pizza toppings.

Here's one mantra I have got from someone here on Spark:

"Don't do anything to lose weight that you wouldn't be willing to do every day for the rest of your life!"

It's the "Lifestyle change", not the "Diet" that works in the long run.

Oh and I use a notebook to track food. And sometimes take a photo with my cell phone to remember.

one i do to get in additional cardio is to take my laptop to a place that has a higher counter--like the kitchen. while i am surfing the internet or sparking, i stand here and march in place. sounds kinda stupid but those minutes add up!

ooOoo I have one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let SP be the only way you track your food.

I kinda "forgot" this for a while, but the facts are just b/c you can't track your food on the computer or on your phone does not mean you can not write it all down. I have a cute pocket journal which I carry around all day with me. Since I don't have computer access at work, it is helping me stay accountable. But you don't need a cute journal to do this. A napkin, a spiral or marble notebook will do. Or just write a little note to yourself on your cell phone if it has the option!

Hi there ladies....I don't know if this fits here or not, but since food is 80% of weight loss, I thought that I would add my 2 cents worth....I do not eat anything with white flour, no potatoes, no white pasta, no bananas, no watermelon. That is just a few, and I am losing around 2 pounds a week.

Great idea, Teri - I'm stealing that! My (in-)stability ball is rolling around on the living room floor, might as well put it to good use!

Great idea, Marit. I've known for a while about your 2-day rule. I think I need to adopt that as my own.

I have a simple habit to share. I have a stability ball at home (that I bought here on sparkpeople!) and (almost) every evening I spend about 30 minutes sitting on it while watching TV. Sometimes I do crunches during commercials, but not always. It's not the most "active" thing you can do, but even just to sit on it requires you to have good posture and stabilize using your core and quads.

I have only been doing this for the last couple of weeks, so I can't yet say that I've seen any impact, but I figure it can't hurt.

I wanted to share one of my helpful habits. Perhaps you can adapt it and use it in your life?

It's a simple little "rule" I find really useful for adding GOYAAM to my day: My "two-day rule" states that I will not let more than two days go by without adding some activity & sweating into my day - NO EXCUSES!

I'm committed to working out consistently and this rule is a good way to keep myself aware of this.

I usually only count a workout where I work up a sweat or get my heart rate up for 30-45 minutes, but the rule is (by intent) flexible and forgiving enough so I am "allowed" to count a short little walk as my workout if that's all I can do or fit into my schedule sometimes.

Now I'm eager to hear about YOUR secrets to stop bad habits and nurture the healthy ones!

I'm sure we can all benefit from learning what others do to change their lifestyles.

Please share your tips and helpful habits and we will end up with a lot of great ways to change our lives little by little.

We have the power!
Hell yeah!
