Welcome, Susee!
I've never heard of the peppermint tea. My only issues are in the upper lip and nose, so a quick razor swipe does it for me. I know the Benefit Brow Bar people at ULTA also do facial waxing, if that's an option for you.

Thank you for discussing this subject. I am almost to my goal weight and have noticed more hair growth now. I am post menopausal so assume this has more to do with aging and the relative increase in testosterone. I have seen a couple articles/postings that talk about drinking spearmint tea to reduce hair growth. Has anyone here tried that? The hair above my lip tends to be darker but there is a LOT of fuzz on my cheeks and chin. I can't see shaving, waxing or electrolysis as options for me. Right now I just trim to make it less noticeable. There are worse things but I am self-conscious about this.

Okay, so I'm not that far above 'normal' weight range right now, maybe 15lbs. And, I'm 37, so hopefully still a few years away from menopause.

I'm not sure, but, I think the hair growth is slowing a bit. I used to have to pluck once or twice a day, and I think I'm down to a couple times a week now? (or maybe my lighting is bad or my contacts need replacing? lol.)

I'll keep an eye on it and keep my fingers crossed that it does lighten up a bit.

I definitely need my thyroid meds adjusted. The hair on my head is falling out again and my fingers are frozen solid most of the time, even when it's hot out. lol. My doc agreed last month or so that my meds need adjusting, but, he wants my weight stable for 3 months to get another reading before he makes a final decision on my next dosage.

LOL, okay, I'm really not looking forward to this getting worse when I hit my 40's or 50's... it's bad enough now! ~big sighs~

And yes, it's nice to be able to discuss it. emoticon

Oh. The indignity of middle-aged hair woes! For me the changes definitely coincided with perimenopause, and were unrelated to weight. While the hair on my head turns grey and my eyebrows practically disappear as their color fades, the hairs in my nose and above my lip turn dark and more noticeable. I tried waxing my upper lip, but it was too irritating, so I simply shave my upper lip in the shower. I clip or pluck the nose hair depending on the visibility.

I'm partial to Benefit's goof proof eyebrow pencil, and love the gal at the Benefit brow bar for the occasional eyebrow wax to keep them shapely. I'm very low maintenence when it comes to makeup, but feel much more together with whole eyebrows instead of just tufts:).

And I'm VERY glad about what Bess said:). Where else can we discuss this stuff with a minimum of embarassment?

Okay, will do. I'll give it awhile after my weight stabilizes toward the lower end of Overweight. If that doesn't help, I'll have to try electrolysis since laser didn't have much effect for me.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. Not quite going to ask this on most of my social media channels. lol.

Oh la! It DOES have to do with aging and the worst of it is that as your ability to focus on the small stuff - you can miss those new hairs. I've worked with several people over the years to eliminate my facial hair and all of them assure me - new facial hair growth continues as you age. Get rid of one and another follicle decides to sprout.

I have been told, also, that the hairs around the mouth are influenced by hormones - and as estrogen wanes more hair grows in. Plucking them is considered detrimental because it doesn't remove the root, but does distort it - so that it takes more sessions with laser or electrolysis to kill the root. Of course - I was told this by the technician I was visiting - but all of them said the same thing. So now I snip any new growth with tiny scissors till I can make an appointment in the city.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth, I think it has a lot to do with ageing. Not necessarily weight issues.

Ha. It's hard for me to know what to expect. My Mom's side of the family is all blonde and red-headed with little and fine/light hair. I have always favored my dad's family, but, have only known the men, so not much to go by.

I always had a couple chin hairs though high school and college, but, midway through my 30's it was more on the lip, all over the chin and down the neck. BUT, that did increase along the same timeline as my weight.

Well, WebMD says weight loss should help, but, I guess I should just wait and see. So far, it's not fallen off noticeably.

Not really, I have some unwanted facial fair on my chin since I turned 45 or so, slowly increasing. So I guess that is just ageing for me. Could be worse : )
Amount of facial hair is often genetic.
My blonde sister got married in Spain and before her marriage cosmetician asked if she wanted her moustache removed - she was shocked as she never had any! but apparently it was a routine request in the city she lived in at that time : )

Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

After weight loss, no. After menopause, YES. Like 6 rounds of laser and most is gone, especially the dark thick ones. The softy unwanted ones remaining especially above my upper lip, are plucked.

Not I. I always had excess facial hair and the only thing that took care of it was electrolysis.

After watching a few episodes of supersized vs super skinny, where they tell the participants about the damage being done to their body by overeating or undereating, I started reading up on the way being overweight or underweight can affect bodyhair.

Just curious of any of you in here who have lost weight and maintained it for awhile, had been experiencing excessive facial hair at your higher weight that was improved by being a more normal weight.
And, if you did experience that, how soon after you lost weight or how far into maintenance did you notice the difference?

Appreciate any input.

(just for trivia, dark hair and pale skin here here, but two rounds of laser therapy did basically nothing for me and doc tested my hormones when I complained to him about it and said I don't have anything out of whack per se.)
