International Dot Day Average Zone Statistics - Week 9

NOTE: These statistics are based on the challenge average as of 11:59 pm on Tuesday, September 15. The challenge average is a dynamic number and changes weekly with each weigh-in. So, the order in which your name appears here may have changed by the time you view the Averages Zones sheet.

We had a total of fifty (50) maintenance challengers at the start.

Bringing the International Dot Day Maintenance Challenge to a close with the following stats over the challenge period:

122.6 lbs. - low
125.0 lbs. - average
127.6 lbs. - high

124.1 lbs. - 4 week average
124.8 lbs. - 12-week average

These stats are based on daily scale weights and not The Hacker's Diet Trend Weight that I used for the maintenance challenge. Although, the challenge average based on weekly Hacker's Diet Trend Weights was 125.01 lbs. Cannot get any closer that that without being spot on!

I couldn't remember if I had checked on or not...guess not. I've signed up for the next challenge, but wasn't even really thinking about this being the last week of this one. Still not seeing the trend that I want but still very much in range, just want to be a couple of pounds less.

This week saw the highest scale weight since August 19; but, then came back down. Since the onset of September, weight fluctuations have been incredibly tight for me. They've been within 2.0 lbs. Actually, they've been within 2 lbs. since August 19; so, that's nearly 4 weeks.

The experience of the past year has been the most unusual, since I began paying more attention to the choices made to support my health and well-being in June of 2013.

The body appears to be settling in around a new center weight. One that is very close to where the body initially settled down in December 2014 after entering maintenance in June 2014.

The $64,000 question is will it stay there?

And, honestly, I don't care because my focus is not micromanaging the weight. My focus remains making the best possible choices to support my health and well-being knowing the weight will be what the weight is going to be. I trust my body.

Had a couple of interesting interactions with health care professionals this week (neurologist and the clinical nutritionist who also happens to be a chiropractor). Upcoming appointments this week with both the PCP and OB/GYN. Suspect that I will be checking in with the clinical nutritionist again this week as well.

Based upon some suggestions made by the neurologist, we will be implementing the use of additional nutritional supplementation. Just waiting to talk to the PCP first and then, the clinical nutritionist and I will touch base again. Some additional nutrients are already on order.

It's beginning to appear more likely that there's a genetic disease underlying this experience. I need a doctor's referral for the testing. The clinical nutritionist wants me to see what I can do to get an approval and I'll do what I can do.

Well, the scale weights have been dancing up and down around a Hacker's Diet Trend Weight of 124.4 for 6 successive days now. It is highly unusual for me to see trend weights hold for that many days. My weight has a tendency to fluctuate enough to move even those trends on a day-to-day basis.

I'm always amazed by those of you that weigh in with the same weight or nearly the same weight week, after week, after week. Our similarities and differences absolutely fascinate me!

I've been on a gradual weight gaining trend since the COVID related lockdowns. It appears to me to be emotional eating vs. lack of activity; though I do realize not going to the gym has taken the regular treadmill time out of my work outs. I have maintained the strength training 3x weekly with dumbbells, body-weight exercises, resistance cables and resistance loops. What I haven't replaced is treadmill. This week, I pulled the mini-trampoline out of the closet and have added back some jogging in place on the trampoline. Hoping to see a change with the increased activity.

My actual is down this morning, surprisingly and for some unknown reason. One morning this past week my actual was up at 135.6 which in my mind is dangerously close to my upper scream weight. The trend is up from last week but actually down from yesterday and the day before - primarily due to the lower actual weight this morning. I hope the decrease continues but I am not betting on it.

Well, over the past week I have begun to see both ups and downs among the 7-day and 10-day averages. Both the Weight Grapher and the Hacker's Diet trend weights have yet to catch the scale weights or the other averages. Those trend weights being weighted averages have a tendency to lag, especially when the deviations are large and sustained.

So, the body may be approaching a leveling off in what may prove to be a brief downward trend or part of routine fluctuation up/down within a new range.

For those of you that don't necessarily know me that well. I do not eat to micromanage the weight. My approach has been one of learning to listen to, understand, and respond to the needs of the body. Trusting that the weight will be what the weight is going to be.

I am also a scientist by training and have a huge affinity for numbers. Numbers have always spoken to me far more than words. And, because of this numerical and mathematical affinity, graphs speak volumes! And, rates of change? Algebraic slopes of lines? Derivatives of Calculus anyone? OMG!!! Extremely powerful information.

Sharing some weight graphs. They're primarily during the maintenance years; although, I will finish with one that shows what's transpired since I chose to join BAPEARMAN walking in June 2013.

Hacker's Diet Chart (December 2014 - present)


I really love the Hacker's Diet Chart above because it clearly reveals the dramatic nature of the weight trend following the onset of the thyroid dysfunction last fall.

Spark Graph Weight Over Time (June 2013 - present)


Because this weight chart is over such an extended period of time and the weight loss was significant, what's occurred since the emergence of the 'sideways trend' in December 2014 looks fairly smooth.

And, in certain regards it has been smooth, especially in light of the health challenges experienced.

Every significant blip and downward or upward trend in that Hacker's Diet Chart is associated with a specific health challenge. So, I've learned over the past 7 years that watching weight trends: specifically the deviation of the maintenance challenge average is an incredibly powerful health indicator for me.

So glad that I joined this team in June 2014 and jumped aboard the weight maintenance challenges. The experience has taught me much and served me well.

Wrapping up August with a scale weight of 124.0 lbs. this morning and 125.4 lbs. for the monthly average of the daily scale weights. The 125.4 lbs. is the same as that for December 2014.

It was December 2014 when the sideways trend emerged, after declaring goal in June 2014. This month and December 2014 represent the only monthly averages of the scale weights within a normal BMI range. All others since December 2014 - present have been in underweight territory.

We shall see what September has in store ...
